Legendary Indianapolis club DJ Thomas J. Griffin, also known as Sparkle Soxx, was one of the first club DJs in Indianapolis. In 1973, he began spinning funk and soul music at venues across the city. He visits Echoes of Indiana Avenue to discuss his multi-decade DJ career and notable work in broadcasting as an announcer for WTLC and The Reggie Miller Show.
This week, Kyle Long talks Geno Shelton, a legendary Indianapolis DJ and promoter. Shelton arrived in Indianapolis in 1985, taking a job as an on-air personality for WTLC. During his time on radio, he was also active as a nightclub DJ and promoter. Over the years, Shelton has worked with some of the biggest stars in American music - from Al Green, to James Brown.

2021 was a record-breaking year for homicides in Indianapolis, and of course everyone who cares is interested in a solution to stop the violence and reduce the number of lives of lost. Now this year the city of Indianapolis will use $150 million dollars in federal money to combat the problem, partially through its deployment of “Peacemakers” who are part of the city's Violence Interruption Team. Lauren Rodriguez, is the director of the Indianapolis Office of Public Health and Safety, and Shardae Hoskins, a Community Resources Coordinator for the city of Indianapolis.
