Al Green sang some of the most acclaimed soul records of the 1970s. So when he decided to leave it all behind for the church, many questioned why. Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot discuss Al Green's life and his pivotal first gospel album, Belle with biographer Jimmy McDonough. Plus, they review the new album from Mitski.Join our Facebook Group: https://bit.ly/3sivr9TBecome a member on Patreon: https://bit.ly/3slWZvcSign up for our newsletter: https://bit.ly/3eEvRnGMake a donation via PayPal: https://bit.ly/3dmt9lUSend us a Voice Memo: Desktop: bit.ly/2RyD5Ah Mobile: sayhi.chat/soundops Featured Songs:Al Green, "Belle," The Belle Album, Hi, 1977The Beatles, "With A Little Help From My Friends," Sgt. For this episode we invite the very entertaining Jimmy McDonough to join us — all the way from Portland, Oregon — and discuss his career as "the king of the crazy biographers". Our guest explains how he moved (back) to New York from Indiana in the '80s and how he got his foot in the door at the Village Voice with a 1988 profile of country singer Gary Stewart, the subject of his new book. We then hear about the long and painful saga of his extraordinary Neil Young biography Shakey (2002) — and his singular approach to the biographical trade. Clips from Amy Linden's 1995 audio interview with Al Green give us the opportunity to ask Jimmy about his 2017 biography of the Reverend Green, after which we finally get to the 40-year gestation of I Am from the Honky Tonks and the story of his obsession with his doomed honky-tonk hero. He explains why the book felt like a mission and why Gary Stewart could and should have been a country superstar. After Mark quotes from featured writer John Morthland's review of the Monterey Pop Festival (with a namecheck for the late Country Joe McDonald) and from a 1975 interview with Tammy Wynette – another of our guest's biographical subjects — Jasper wraps things up with remarks on the Australian Folk Bitch Trio and the man who manages Yungblud (and "eats challenges for breakfast"). Many thanks to special guest Jimmy McDonough. Gary Stewart: I Am from the Honky-Tonks is published by Wolf+Salmon and available for pre-order now. Pieces discussed: Why did Neil Young try to squelch Shakey?, Gary Stewart: Honky-Tonk Puree, Gary Stewart: Out of Hand, John Morthland articles, Monterey International Pop Music Festival, Three Dog Night: Why Do The Underground Put Us Down?, Tammy Wynette, "I Eat Challenges For Breakfast": Yungblud's Manager Tommas Arnby and Folk Bitch Trio.

Former Sydney Kings and Illawarra Hawks owner Dorry Kordahi takes us inside his latest venture — buying into the Lebanese Basketball League and becoming president of the NSA Falcons. Host Dan Boyce chats with Kordahi on why the LBL is one of the most powerful basketball markets in the world (and why the timing to invest is right now), how the opportunity came together through long-time connections, and what he's already doing on the ground. From there, the conversation shifts back home. Kordahi addresses ongoing talk around NBL expansion — including his interest in a second Sydney franchise and his long-running push to help bring the Newcastle Falcons back into the league. He explains why stadium infrastructure is the biggest barrier, why government support is essential, and how the NBL's growth over the past decade has changed the way "small market" clubs can recruit and compete. Topics include: Kordahi's move into Lebanese basketball and why the LBL market makes sense (0:30) How the NSA Falcons deal came together — and why he took a "rebuild" job again (2:30) His role as club president, early meetings in Beirut, and what he wants to change (4:30) Bridging Lebanon and Australia — exhibitions, coaching pathways, and NBL credibility overseas (5:30) Why the NBL is viewed as a premier league in Lebanon — and what that unlocks (6:30) Second Sydney team talk — and whether Lebanon closes the door on NBL ownership (7:00) Newcastle Falcons expansion push: history, market size, and what's holding it back (7:45) The stadium problem in Australia — and why it limits growth for the entire sport (10:00) Kings vs Hawks from the inside: big club vs small club realities (12:00) Rivalry mindset, "underdog fuel", and how the Hawks used the Kings as motivation (13:30) How the league has changed: balance, recruitment, and why the "small team stigma" is fading (15:30) What needs to happen for the NBL's 11th team to become real (18:00) Visit dunk.com.au for your next set of basketball uniforms. 2.25.2026 #RolandMartinUnfiltered:Al Green Ejected for “Black People Aren’t Apes” Sign. Idaho Bans Juneteenth. Trump Crime Claims Texas Congressman Al Green will be here to talk about his removal from Tuesday night's State of the Union address for holding Black "People Aren't Apes" sign. During his address, the twice-impeached, criminally convicted felon-in-chief, Donald "The Con" Trump talked about crime. We'll discuss the inflated claims, and the President and CEO of Just Leadership USA, a national organization influencing criminal justice policy, will discuss what he didn't say. An Idaho council voted to ban Juneteenth in favor of preserving America's racist white history. A white Hunter College professor is under fire for insensitive, racist comments caught on a hot mic during a New York City Community Education Council zoom meeting. Tonight we are joined by Rep. Al Green to discuss his protest and subsequent removal from last night's State of the Union address. The congressman held up a sign which read "Black People Aren't Apes," a reference to a Trump tweet which depicted the Obamas as apes in a meme. Also, former Treasure Secretary and Harvard professor Larry Summers has resigned from his professorship at the university for his involvement with Jeffery Epstein. With more and more folks with ties to Epstein are losing jobs and facing accountability, when will the Epstein files affect those in the Trump administration? Join Don to break these stories down.

The more you study the aftermath of the democrat's reaction to President Trump's state of the Union address, the more everyone realizes how beautifully they got played by the President to look bad, so much so, even their own liberal pundits acknowledge it. Ilhan Omar on the other hand doesn't regret her behavior and doubles down, even with a DOJ investigating her family winery business that all of a sudden became a 30-million-dollar business within one calendar year. Plus, a sex offender in California is running for office, Al Green is self-identifying himself a one of the great civil rights leaders, Epstein list backfires, Kamala, and more wine drinking.

In this explosive episode, we break down the most controversial moments from last night's State of the Union. Trump exposes massive fraud in Medicaid, food stamps, and federal programs while challenging Democrats to stand for American citizens over illegal immigrants. Highlights include dramatic reactions from Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, a shocking story about government-forced gender transitions in schools, and Trump's warning on Iran's nuclear and missile buildup. Plus, the launch of a nationwide “War on Fraud” led by JD Vance, aimed at recovering billions in misused federal funds.
Hawk watched Donald Trump's State of the Union address on February 24, 2026, then watched the Democratic response delivered by Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, and came away far angrier at the Democrats than at Trump. While Trump's behavior was predictable, the Democratic response was scripted, sanitized, and shockingly silent on the most damning facts about a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, and fraudster who was indicted 91 times across four jurisdictions, convicted on 34 felony counts for interfering with the 2016 election, incited the January 6th insurrection, and whose company was convicted of 17 fraud-related felonies. Spanberger never said the words convicted felon, rapist, fraudster, fascist, authoritarian, or genocide. She did not mention Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, or the ICE killings of Renee Good, Alex Prey, or Keith Porter. She did not call Trump a liar. She did not mention that he pardoned January 6th insurrectionists, ignored the Constitution, or is dismantling democracy. Meanwhile, Raphael Warnock, when given time on air, immediately named Epstein, called out the administration's wickedness, and spoke to the transfer of wealth from the bottom 75% to the top 1%. Hawk argues Warnock, or the young Somali woman from Minneapolis who spoke plainly about racism and murder, should have delivered the response instead. Congressman Al Green was physically removed from the House floor for holding a sign reading "Black people are not apes," while Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer, and every other Democrat sat silent. Hawk also points to the DNC's own post-2024 autopsy confirming that Democratic support for Israel's actions in Gaza cost them the election, yet Democrats continue accepting millions from AIPAC and J Street. During today's unfiltered breakdown of President Trump's record-length 2026 State of the Union address, Chris Cillizza and Matt Lewis dive into the following:— “Dems can only win by cheating”: Trump's explosive claim echoes 2020 rhetoric— setting stage for midterm fraud narratives if Republicans lose the House?—Faces in the crowd & medals: Heavy on patriotic moments, but is it genuine or weaponized theater?—Democrats' response: 70+ boycotts, protests (Rep. Al Green escorted out), awkward non-applause on “protect citizens first” — smart strategy or optics disaster?— Immigration theater: Trump forces “stand if you agree America first” moment — Democrats seated; perfect for attack ads?— Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger's rebuttal: Solid, low-key Democratic response — focuses on affordability, avoids overreach. — Epstein files withheld: NPR reports on missing pages/allegations against Trump (minor abuse claim from 2019 FBI interview) — why the cover-up? — Media & low expectations: Soft bigotry of low expectations — Trump didn't go full chaos, so “he did great”? In this episode of The Clay Edwards Show, host Clay Edwards shares hilarious stories from his weekend on the coast, including a fan chasing him down in Ocean Springs mistaking him for "Chad" and a generous older lady at the Hard Rock handing out gifts like candles and socks. He reflects on the show's broad appeal and thanks listeners for joining a high school dropout turned expert on Democrat death culture as he rants about politics and culture. Clay gives the State of the Union a perfect 10/10, calling it the most presidential and longest ever, with highlights like honoring a 100-year-old WWII pilot who survived the longest dogfight in U.S. history against Russian pilots—a secret until 2002. He blasts Democrats for not standing during tributes to heroes and victims of crimes by illegal immigrants, spotlighting antics from Al Green (with his misspelled "Black People Aren't Apes" sign turning into "Black People Rent Apes") and Squad members disruptively chanting. Clay proposes an annual awards show for military, first responders, and civilian heroes to inspire patriotism over celebrity events. The show heats up with callers debating disrespect at the SOTU, racism accusations, and liberal policies, leading to fiery rants on taking the country back, human trafficking ties to politicians like the Maine governor, and imperfect biblical figures. Clay addresses a controversial caller offended by his language, defending authenticity and fed-up conservatism. He announces Pearl Day 2026 on April 25 with free performances by Daughtry and Hinder, and debates Sunday liquor sales in Mississippi, advocating for freedom while noting some stores' concerns. The episode wraps with Clay explaining his social media reset, trusting divine guidance, and teasing more unfiltered talk ahead.

Marc Cox sits down with Mary Vogt from the Heritage Foundation to analyze the State of the Union, focusing on the behavior of Democratic members and their interruptions. Vogt highlights Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Al Green's actions, framing them as disruptive and childish, while praising the president's opportunity to address the nation directly. The discussion touches on political messaging, the contrast between patriotic rhetoric and opposition responses, and critical reflections on Representative Spanberger's predictable, scripted reaction. The hour blends decorum analysis with insights into broader political strategy and public perception. We wrap up our seven-part deep dive into one of Aussie hoops' fiercest rivalries — Sydney vs Illawarra — as the modern era turns the heat all the way up and the Freeway Series swings wildly from season to season. Host Dan Boyce picks things up after the Hawks' rebirth under new ownership and Brian Goorjian, a fresh start that quickly turns into a brutal reality check — including the worst season in franchise history (3–25) — before the club pulls off one of the great turnarounds in recent NBL history, storming back to win their second NBL championship. From there, the rivalry doesn't cool off — it escalates. We track the on-court blowouts, the nail-biters, the flashpoints, and the personality clashes that only seem to grow when these two clubs share the same building. We also hit Goorjian's return to Sydney, and bring it right up to today, where the Kings and Hawks have traded sweeps in back-to-back seasons, and the balance of power has flipped yet again heading into the current finals series. Greetings Glocal Citizens! I met this week's guest, Nana Asomani-Poku in Jamestown, Accra during a walking tour through featuring stories told in images by Glocal Citizen, James Barnor. It was during the James Barnor @95 celebration in 2024. Nana, a UK-born Ghanaian legal professional, filmmaker, and community engagement specialist based in Australia was back in Ghana for a family celebration of his own. As we chatted along the route, he mentioned his work centering social impact in Australia and my curiosity was peaked. What you'll learn in this conversation spans how he began his career as a legal advocate for asylum seekers and refugees with the UK's largest not-for-profit immigration law firm to community and stakeholder engagement, building bridges between public sector organisations and marginalised communities in Australia. Alongside his human rights work, he pursued his passion for filmmaking, training at the New York Film Academy and going on to make his first feature film, Drawn. Let's travel with Nana, to get to know more about his land down under and other stops across the globe. Where to find Nana? On IMDB On Instagram What's Nana listening to? Episode 9 is the one where Brian Wise and Michael Mackenzie briefly mistake themselves for an IT helpdesk, a sports panel, and a moral philosophy seminar—before landing, somewhat dazed, back in music. It opens with Wise declaring he “can't stand” the sound of his own voice (a bold confession for a career built on talking), while Mackenzie offers the sort of praise that feels both affectionate and faintly menacing: “the voice of a generation.” Before the audio collapses entirely, the conversation sprints through Wise's great sporting exertion: the exhausting labour of watching sport. There's genuine distress at skier Lindsey Vonn crashing out in 13 seconds, complete with a description of pain you could feel through the screen. From there, the mood whiplashes into the Super Bowl halftime show—Wise calls Bad Bunny's performance the best he's ever seen, even while admitting he couldn't understand a word of it. Mackenzie, meanwhile, is stuck on the visuals of sugar cane cutting and its historical echoes closer to home. Their consensus: if Donald Trump calls it the worst halftime show ever, that's basically a five-star review. Then comes one of Wise's purest modern urges: gadget-lust triggered by sport. Spotting tennis champion Elena Rybakina wearing a watch post-match, he consults “our friend AI” and discovers it's a Vanguard Orb worth a mere $200,000. At which point the show finally pivots to the Grammys—specifically the stuff that doesn't make the glossy broadcast. Wise notes that Fela Kuti received a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award, nearly 30 years after his death at 58, making him the first African musician to be honoured that way. They sketch Kuti as both musical revolutionary and political force, the Afrobeat originator whose trance-like repetition and complex grooves seeped into Remain in Light and My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. The point: the Grammys have 85 categories, and the good parts are buried where only the determined will look. The episode's left turn into pop comes via Mackenzie's discovery of Charli XCX through the comedy-chat juggernaut Smartless. Wise's response—“Who's he?”—is treated as both generational commentary and perfectly on-brand. The subtext is clear: don't confuse “not my cup of tea” with “not worth paying attention to”. Politics drifts in, as it tends to now, through the question of who's writing protest songs. Wise notes Nils Lofgren's “No Kings, No Hate, No Fear”, nods to Lucinda Williams and Mavis Staples, and longs—audibly—for Bob Dylan to re-enter the ring with something era-defining. Mackenzie is unconvinced, offering the counterpoint that Dylan's signature move in moments like this is often silence. Screen culture gets its usual run: Mackenzie's recommendation of the British robbery thriller Steel mostly lands—until Wise objects to the final 15 minutes for explaining too much, revealing his mother's literary habit of reading the last chapter first. The music talk returns in force with Buddy Guy. Wise has interviewed him (Buddy turns 90 this year and is flagged as possibly touring Australia for the last time), and the hosts linger on the question Wise once had about Buddy's live habit of paying tribute to other blues greats. Finally, Al Green turns up as both salvation and complication. Wise recommends Green's EP To Love Somebody (Bee Gees cover included, plus “Perfect Day” featuring RAYE and a take on R.E.M.'s “Everybody Hurts”), while Mackenzie raises the perennial problem: applauding the artistry while not airbrushing the artist. Episode 9's through-line, then, isn't sport or even the Grammys. It's the way culture arrives in the room: messy, overlapping, sometimes off-mic, and always demanding you listen harder than the algorithm wants you to. Uncle Eddie and the crew return for another wild Wednesday night. The show kicks off with a post-game autopsy of the "horrible" Super Bowl, including a critique of Bad Bunny's sugarcane halftime show and the Patriots' lackluster performance. The conversation gets heavy as the gang discusses the ongoing mystery surrounding the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy, including a strange new ransom demand for one Bitcoin and Eddie's wild theories on how a "Commander in Queef" rescue mission might look. The Main Event: The crew welcomes the legendary Madam Dena from Sheri's Ranch Resort and Spa in Pahrump, Nevada. Uncle Eddie auditions the ranch to become the official brothel of The Ham Radio Show as the gang reviews their famous "Sex Menu." From the "Girlfriend Experience" and "Hot and Cold Blowjobs" to the "Lesbian Private Show," no stone—or kink—is left unturned. Also in this episode: The Slug Sports Report: Eddie discovers "Run Nation" (or "Run It"), a brutal Australian sport where athletes simply sprint head-first into each other's sternums. WTF News: How police used drone technology to catch a 46-year-old serial "park pooper" in Wisconsin. The Basement: Rick and Billy drop the needle on "Same Title, Different Song," comparing hits by Van Halen, Al Green, The Doors, and Led Zeppelin. Weather: A global update from the maritime legend himself, Frankie McDonald.

Line Up : Marc Nammour (rap) & Loïc Lantoine (rap). Line Up : Marc Nammour (rap) & Loïc Lantoine (rap). Titres interprétés au grand studio : - To see the World (en duo) Live RFI - Building a Home, extrait de l'album - East Coast (en solo) Live RFI. Line Up : Barbara Forstner (chant, guitare) William Peyrieux (guitare). Son : Benoît Letirant. ► Album Long Long Gone (Raws Prod). Instagram - YouTube.

We continue diving deeper into one of Aussie hoops' fiercest rivalries — Sydney vs Illawarra — picking things up as LaMelo Ball and his rookie of the year season in 2019 that propelled the Hawks into the global spotlight, setting NBL viewership and attendance records, while the Kings reload under Will Weaver and push for a championship in a season that ends in chaos. Host Dan Boyce breaks down LaMelo's viral debut, his back-to-back triple-doubles, and the impact of the injury to Aaron Brooks to Illawarra playoff hopes, before diving into the record-setting 17,514 crowd that packed Qudos Bank Arena for Hawks v Kings — and the off-court collapse that followed. Then it's onto Sydney's rise to the top of the ladder, a Grand Final showdown with Perth, and how COVID ended it all. Finally, we trace the fallout in Wollongong — including liquidation, $2 million in debt, and the NBL's intervention — as Dorry Kordahi steps in to rescue the franchise and rebuild from the ground up. Featuring game and stat breakdowns from across the season, this episode blends rivalry flashpoints, behind-the-scenes turmoil, and the moment the rivalry took centre stage for the entire basketball world. Scott Bomar is a Memphis lifer who moves easily between the grit of garage-surf (Impala) and the deep-pocket groove of classic soul (the Bo-Keys), with credits alongside Stax/Hi orbit players and on Al Green's comeback-era sessions. As a producer/engineer and film soundtrack composer, he continues to drag the Memphis musical DNA into bigger rooms with work on movies such as Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan, Dolemite Is My Name. Scott's scores lean on funk, spy-noir, and vintage synth heat without turning into cosplay.
