POPULARITY
In this week's episode, I had the privilege of chatting with James Yurichuck, a Brampton, Ontario native, and founder and CEO of Wuxly Movement, 100% Canadian made outwerwear, which is biodegradable, animal friendly, and vegan approved parkas and jackets. As a founder and CEO, James bootstrapped Wuxly while playing football in 2015 and has now grown it into a multi-million dollar business in a matter of years. He has recently led a huge initiative in leading manufacturing and production of PPE - reusable medical gowns to aid in the fight against COVID-19, from their Toronto manufacturing facility. As a football player, James was drafted 4th overall by the BC Lions in 2009 as a linebacker, and had a very successful career with the BC Lions and the Toronto Argonauts. He played for 8 seasons with over 140 games, winning a Grey Cup in 2011, and also won the Jake Goodaur Trophy in 2014. In the 14+ years that I have known James he is a very humble, hardworking, and one of the most helpful and honest human beings I have seen. And that is something that his team values the most from his leadership. You can check out his company at Wuxly.com, and follow them on Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn @wuxlymovement tanvirbhangoo.com TBX Digital Inc.
Before becoming a fashion entrepreneur, today's guest was a CFL champion who spent 8 years as a professional football player. After four seasons with the BC Lions, he was traded to his hometown Toronto Argo's and during the move, he tasked himself with finding his girlfriend, a beautiful Brazilian girl, the perfect parka to help her adjust to harsh winters in Toronto. He became defeated in his search because there was no Canadian made, animal-free parkas on the market. He turned to his longtime friend and master-tailor, Anthony DeBartolo, to design a warm winter parka. The final result of their creation is Wuxly movement, a Canadian made animal-free outerwear company utilizing revolutionary tech-based materials that are lighter and warmer while being respectful to the planet. My guest today is James Yuirchuk, CEO of Wuxly movement. I caught up with James to chat about life after football, how his experience as a pro football player has helped him as an entrepreneur, and how he has been able to quickly pivot his business to produce 1 million units of PPE to help frontline workers.

This week we chat with James Yurichuk, a former CFL linebacker who's created an amazing movement: The Wuxly Movement! Creating cruelty free, uber warm clothing for Canadians by Canadians! Well, they're in the US too. This is also the very first laneway office we've seen. A trend that I'm sure will continue as property owners look to maximize their property's value. A truly amazing Canadian company! Go get it, James!!!
Former CFL player and CEO of Wuxly Movement, James Yurichuk talks about his new line of outer wear which contains absolutely no animal products Damon Bennett discusses a big issue with fewer people learning trades Perry Lefko on the "convenient" injury to Vladimir Guerrero.
(https://atgridiron.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/ATG-Yuri.png) James enjoyed an 8 year career in the CFL playing with the BC Lions and Toronto Argos. Inspired by watching his older brother, he started playing football once he got to highschool. He didn’t think of football as a potential career until his grade 12 year when he excelled on the field and got attention from schools across the country. He decided to go to Bishop’s University where he would get a chance to spread his wings and have some independence. There was a lot of talent at the school which showed in the number of players drafted from the team. His draft day experience was great having his family with him as he got the call from BC as the 4th pic in the draft. But as he put it, that’s when the real work started. Going to an established team like the Lions makes it tough to earn a spot on the team, even for a 1st round selection. The stresses of training camp even led him to dust off his bible for some encouragement and inspiration! He did make the team and enjoyed 4 seasons with them which included winning a Grey Cup in 2011. Having the chance to play at home, he signed with the Argos as a free agent. That was kind of the genesis of his after football life. His girlfriend at the time, who comes from sunny Brazil, would need some outerwear to endure the winter cold of Toronto. Not being able to find something satisfactory, he actually made her a jacket! That was the start of what is now Wuxly Movement. Being an animal lover, the apparel is made animal free and manufactured right here in Canada. Defender Radio: The Podcast for Wildlife Advocates and Animal Lovers
Wuxly Movement is the animal-free, made-in-Canada outerwear brand that animal lovers across Canada are raving about. Full disclosure – I myself have two of the jackets and they’re ridiculously warm and comfortable. Inspired to create a winter coat that wasn’t adorned with coyote fur or stuffed with goose down, James Yurichuk and his long-time friend Anthony DeBartolo developed Wully Outerwear, which was recently rebranded to Wuxly Movement. A direct competitor to outerwear companies that use real fur or down, seeing Wuxly Movement gear on the street means, quite literally, that lives of animals were saved. I visited James at the Trinity-Bellwoods office of Wuxly Movement to discuss the history of the outerwear company, the brand update, and what the Wuxly Movement has their sights set on next.
