The college football world is experiencing a bit of a shock today after a judge ruled that a Big 12 quarterback who admitted to gambling will still be eligible to play this upcoming season. The NCAA has a ban on gambling, including bets made on a player's own team. But a judge in Texas granted a temporary injunction for a Texas Tech player, which clears the way for him to play in the fall. It's not too often we get to mix sports and the law, so Inside Sources takes the opportunity to do that today.

Is this targeting at the high school level? In this segment, we break down a player-safety play involving forcible contact to the head and neck area and discuss why high school targeting rules must be judged differently than what officials may see on Saturdays or Sundays. The conversation focuses on strike zone, forcible contact, illegal helmet contact, spearing, and why “code creep” from college or NFL rules can create confusion for high school officials. We also cover: Targeting against a runner Lowering the strike zone Player safety philosophy When crew members should offer help Why officials need rule-based judgment, not personal preference How to defend or explain tough safety fouls on film A strong segment for high school football officials who want to sharpen their understanding of targeting, improve safety-foul judgment, avoid code creep… and much more.

Chris Malleo is a former Northwestern University and professional football player. After retiring from paying, he became head coach at The Peddie School in New Jersey, and led a perennial underachieving team to a #1 national ranking through a system of culture, belief, and standards. While at Peddie, Chris hired an incredible coach named Frankie Kineavy. Frankie was non verbal, and had suffered from cerebral palsy since birth, yet soon Chris, his staff and his players realized that while Frankie was not your typical football coach, he was one of the best leaders any of them had ever met. Chris tells that story in his new book The ChairLeader, a best selling book on leadership, connection, and courage, featuring a foreword by Hall of Fame coach Jay Wright and endorsements from bestselling author Jon Gordon, Clemson Head Coach Dabo Swinney, and Jersey Mike's Founder and CEO Peter Cancro. In our discussion, John and Chris discuss his journey to becoming a coach, the incredible impact Frankie had on the Peddie program, and the leadership lessons that he retells in his book. They then dive further in to Sam darnold, and the idea of viewing him more as a football player rather than a quarterback specifically. In Blue 88, Brock takeas a look at some of the attitude that Mike Macdonald has learned from John Schneider, what led to the end of Pete Carroll's time with the Raiders and which head coaching job would be most enticing for Klint Kubiak.
