What if the greatest advantage in business isn't talent, but the willingness to keep learning and never give up? In this episode, Carlos Antillano, Vice President of the Americas for Mauviel 1830, entrepreneur, author, and lifelong student, shares the journey that took him from selling cookware on eBay out of his bathroom to leading one of the world's most respected luxury cookware brands. Along the way, he reveals why curiosity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to learning have been the driving forces behind every opportunity he's earned. Carlos also reflects on the relationships that shaped his leadership, from a scuba diving instructor who taught him confidence under pressure to a business mentor who helped him develop empathy for customers. Text your thoughts and questions! We often think rest is something we earn after we've worked hard enough. We push through exhaustion, tell ourselves we'll slow down later, and believe that getting more done is the key to feeling better. But what if we've been thinking about rest all wrong? This week, in episode 323 of the Positively LivingⓇ Podcast, we're revisiting one of our most impactful conversations with Gary Ware, founder of Breakthrough Play, keynote speaker, certified coach, and bestselling author of Playful Rebellion. As part of our summer series on energy, stress, and nervous system regulation, this timely re-release explores why rest is essential—not as a reward for productivity, but as the foundation that makes sustainable productivity possible.Gary Ware is the founder of Breakthrough Play, a keynote speaker, certified coach, and the bestselling author of Playful Rebellion. Through applied improvisation, positive psychology, and the science of play, Gary helps individuals and organizations reduce stress, strengthen communication, spark creativity, and build more sustainable ways of working. His mission is to help people challenge the belief that productivity requires constant hustle and instead embrace play and rest as powerful tools for greater impact, innovation, and well-being.In this conversation, Gary introduces three distinct types of rest—macro, micro, and meso—and explains how each one helps reduce stress, restore creativity, and support your energy in different ways. He also shares why play isn't childish, why entrepreneurs often resist rest the most, and how small shifts can dramatically improve your focus, well-being, and impact.Key Takeaways:Rest isn't something you earn. It's something that allows you to do your best work.Chronic stress keeps your brain in fight, flight, or freeze mode, reducing creativity, empathy, and clear thinking.Better sleep isn't always about getting more hours. Improving the quality of your sleep can make a significant difference.A consistent wind-down routine helps your body transition into restorative sleep.Macro rest focuses on deep restoration through quality sleep and recovery.Micro rest consists of short five-minute breaks throughout the day that help reset your brain and restore energy between tasks.Scrolling social media or checking email isn't true rest. Choose activities that genuinely recharge you instead.Meso rest means intentionally stepping away from work for several hours, a day, or longer to pursue hobbies, family time, or activities that bring joy.Hobbies aren't a luxury—they help your brain make creative connections and improve problem-solving.Play looks different for everyone. The goal isn't to do what others find fun, but to discover what genuinely restores and energizes you.Sustainable productivity begins with honoring your energy, not constantly pushing through exhaustion.Rest isn't the opposite of productivity—it's what makes productivity sustainable. When you give yourself permission to rest before you're completely depleted, you create space for greater creativity, better decisions, stronger relationships, and more meaningful work. What would change if you stopped trying to earn your rest and started treating it as one of your greatest strengths?Thank you for listening! Eccentric exercise — movements where your muscles lengthen under tension, such as walking downstairs or lowering into a squat — builds greater force with less oxygen demand and less cardiovascular strain than conventional exercise Muscle soreness after eccentric exercise usually comes from inflammation and irritation in connective tissue rather than widespread muscle destruction, and your body rapidly adapts after only one or two sessions Elderly women who performed descending stair walking twice weekly for 12 weeks improved blood pressure, insulin sensitivity, cholesterol markers, and lower-body strength more than women who focused on ascending stairs Short home-based eccentric exercise routines involving movements such as chair squats, wall pushups and heel drops improved strength, flexibility, and mental health, while more than 90% of participants continued exercising afterward Eccentric training improves balance, coordination, joint stability, and injury resistance because your muscles and nervous system learn how to absorb force more efficiently during real-life movement

How does a respected university professor lose everything?Dr. Julie Howell spent decades building a successful career in higher education, earning the respect of colleagues and mentoring future educators. From the outside, she appeared to have it all.But behind the success was a lifetime of hidden trauma, overwhelming personal challenges, and a gambling addiction that quietly became an escape from reality.Eventually, those choices led to a federal conviction, a year in federal prison, and the loss of the career she had spent decades building. In this deeply honest conversation, Dr. Howell shares the story behind the headlines—including childhood trauma, raising a daughter through addiction and sex trafficking, facing the consequences of her own actions, and learning how accountability became the first step toward rebuilding her life. This isn't a conversation about excuses. It's a conversation about addiction, responsibility, forgiveness, and the possibility of redemption after public failure. If you've ever wondered how successful people can quietly struggle—or whether it's possible to rebuild after losing everything—this episode is for you.Show sponsors: Navigating the challenges of white-collar crime? The Monday morning edition of The Rush Hour Podcast covers two stories making headlines for very different reasons. First, Bachelor alum and friend of the show Courtney Robertson breaks her silence on her divorce in an emotional episode of her podcast, and we share a teaser clip while discussing what she had to say. Then we turn to the breaking news that longtime South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham has died at the age of 71 following what his office described as a brief and sudden illness. We break down Donald Trump's reaction, the political legacy Graham leaves behind, his evolution from Trump critic to one of the president's closest allies, and the speculation already spreading online about the circumstances surrounding his death. While conspiracy theories are circulating, we'll separate what's known from what's merely being claimed as the story continues to develop. All that, plus the latest analysis and commentary, on today's episode of The Rush Hour Podcast.
Mitchell Mesenbrink joins the show to discuss what he's been up to since the NCAA season, why he chose not to compete on this international circuit, and how he's starting to feel the itch to get back on the mat. He shares what his training has been focused on, talks about the non-bonus win at NCAA's over Hepner, and opens up about the role faith plays in his life, describing the "God-shaped hole" he believes everyone has. Mitchell also reflects on the family atmosphere at Penn State, what winning the Hodge Trophy meant to him, the influence of his parents throughout his wrestling journey, and takes part in a fun coaching word association segment. The conversation wraps up with stories about Ben Askren's impact on the sport, thoughts on Ben competing at Real American Freestyle, and answers to a variety of fan-submitted questions.TIMESTAMPS:0:00 - Start of Show01:00 - What MM Has Been Up To06:00 - Decision Not to Compete This Circuit09:00 - Getting the Itch Again13:00 - The Training Focus20:00 - The Non-Bonus Win over Hepner26:25 - God-Shaped Hole in Our Hearts33:45 - The Penn State Family40:45 - Winning the Hodge45:35 - Family & Role of Parents55:25 - Coaching Word Association58:00 - Impact of Ben Askren01:02:10 - Ben Competing at RAF01:04:10 - Fan QuestionsMM ON INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mitchell_mesenbrink/MM ON X: https://x.com/Mitch_MesBe sure to SUBSCRIBE to the podcast. What's Really Going On with Big Tigger & Alicia? + LaVar Ball Opens Up About His Marriage
The Robertsons clash with modern culture's anti-family message as Jase and Zach open up about the children who changed their families forever and the biblical calling to care for widows, orphans, and the vulnerable. Jase shares the Walmart bathroom prayer moment that reminded him how “Unashamed” is reaching whole families. The guys connect James' definition of pure religion to Jesus' warning about protecting children, the spiritual danger of giving evil a foothold, and why God's design for family still stands against the isolation of the world. In this episode: James 1; 1 John 4; 1 John 2:15-17; 1 John 5; Jeremiah 22:1-5; Jeremiah 19:1-6; Genesis 1:28 “Unashamed” Episode 1371 is sponsored by: https://www.wildalaskan.com/UNASHAMED — Get $35 off your first box of wild-caught, sustainable seafood delivered right to your door. https://myphdweightloss.com — Find out how Al lost 80+ pounds.
