Submissions are open for the 2026 Nevada City Film Festival. Now comes the flood of films - animation, shorts, documentaries -  from around the world, says Jesse Locks, the festival's Executive Director. In 2025 the small committee tasked with decision making watched 297 hours worth of submissions before whittling down the event's final lineup.This year the focus will be on animation and the artists committed to that craft. But, as Locks points out, animation is expensive. And some filmmakers have been turning to artificial intelligence to cut costs. “Does that erode how we interact with reality, or does that enhance creativity,” Locks asks. Films created with the use of AI are able to enter the festival.  Locks says, “Ultimately, audiences are going to be the ones who decide if AI succeeds or fails in filmmaking.”

President Trump's recent call for an investigation into the Jeffrey Epstein scandal — even though driven by his desire to target political enemies — has unexpectedly opened the door to the one thing victims, journalists, and the public have demanded for decades: a full, unfiltered, scorched-earth investigation into the entire Epstein network. Regardless of Trump's motives, the demand for a comprehensive inquiry is long overdue. The evidence already available is more than sufficient to launch a massive multi-pronged federal RICO case involving human trafficking, financial crimes, money laundering, international transport of minors, conspiracy, bribery, foreign intelligence ties, prosecutorial misconduct, and systemic institutional corruption. Parents across the MidWest have breathed a long awaited sigh of relief as a new respite centre for the region officially opened this week. Children and Disabilities Minister Norma Foley cut the ribbon at Hazeldine in Barefield, which will employ 24 people and provide 1,400 nights of respite care per year. The state of-the-art facility contains two sensory gardens, a sensory room, playroom, four bedrooms, en suite accessible bathrooms, a play area and a self-contained living apartment. Stress among young employees with little savings. Discussion on delays in restoring normal operations, especially air travel.
