    128. Wellness Starts at Home: How Your Environment Shapes How You Feel with Diana Ulis

Wellness does not have to be another appointment, routine, or thing you have to squeeze into an already full day. Sometimes the biggest shift starts with the environment you come home to: the light in your space, the air you breathe, the water you drink, the materials around you, and whether your home helps your body soften or stay on alert. In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Diana Ulis to talk about a part of wellness we do not always think about first: the home. We get into wellness real estate, invisible wellness, and why feeling better does not always have to come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from changing the signals your environment is sending you every single day.Diana Ulis is the developer behind The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Fort Lauderdale Beach, a project I have had the privilege of helping shape as Chief Wellness Advisor. Her approach to this residence is rooted in intentional living, from natural light, clean water, better air, calming materials, and indoor/outdoor flow to privacy, community, and the kind of effortless wellness that works quietly in the background. What's Discussed:(01:21) How Diana's personal approach to intentional living shaped the wellness vision behind the project.(02:40) Why wellness real estate needs to move beyond the spa and gym.(04:18) How light, water, air, layout, flow, and materials became part of the residence design.(07:08) Why clean, mineralized, and structured water became one of the biggest wellness upgrades.(12:14) What invisible wellness means and why the healthiest parts of a home often work quietly in the background.(20:06) How boutique privacy, community spaces, water access, and walkability support a more connected lifestyle.Sign up for The Well Drop NewsletterCheck out The Well Drop approved products and brands at amberberger.me/productsFind out more about Amber Berger: Website: http://thewelldrop.comInstagram: @thewelldropFind out more about The Ritz-Carlton Residences : Website: theresidencesfortlauderdalebeach.com/ Instagram: theresidencesftlbeach THE WELL DROP

Episode 562: Shawn Stevenson: Why Your Relationships Shape Your Health More Than Any Wellness Trend

The most powerful longevity tool you have is not in a bottle or a needle. It's in the quality of your relationships. There's a body of data that's been saying this for decades. Yet, the wellness industry kept focusing on the other direction of wellness. Shawn knows this not only because he read it in a study but because he lived the opposite of what healthy relationships look like first and paid for it with his health. Shawn Stevenson is the host of The Model Health Show, the no.1 nutrition and fitness podcast in the United States, and the bestselling author of Sleep Smarter and Eat Smarter. He grew up in poverty in St. Louis, was told at 20 he had the spine of an 80-year-old, and rebuilt his health from scratch with no money, no access, and no roadmap for any of it. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, Shawn makes the case that we have been optimizing the wrong thing all along. Your culture, your community, and the quality of your relationships are what the largest longevity studies keep pointing to, and almost nobody in wellness is talking about it. He also gets into why GLP-1s and peptides are a shortcut to the wrong destination, what circadian medicine is about to change, and why the healthiest thing you can do today has nothing to do with your supplement stack. If you have ever felt like your circumstances were too far gone for health to even be possible, this episode was made for you. What's Discussed: 04:12 The hidden impact of sleep on metabolism and energy 09:35 Common habits that undermine long-term health 15:48 Practical strategies to improve recovery and resilience 20:55 Final thoughts on building sustainable daily habits Thank You to Our Sponsors! Every fibroblast inside your dermis right now is asking 200 to 2,000 mitochondria to power its work in real time, and those mitochondria are descendants of a free-living bacterium swallowed by a larger cell 2 billion years ago. As you age, those mitochondria run slower and your cells build fewer of them to replace the ones that fail.In this solo episode, Young Goose co-founder Amitay Eshel breaks down the two sides of mitochondrial decline that drive skin aging and explains why the science-led skincare category has spent the last decades addressing only one of them. The first side of skin aging is where most skincare brands have built their products around. The other side is the one almost no skincare on the market is formulating for, and it is where the next chapter of skin longevity is being written. If you have outgrown the antioxidant-and-peptide era of skincare and want to understand what is actually happening underneath your skin as it ages, this episode is for you. What's Discussed:(01:35) The 2-billion-year-old contract inside every skin cell that is now fraying.(04:10) Why skin is one of the most mitochondria-dense organs in your body.(08:20) The 2012 paper that showed NAD drops by half between 35 and 70.(13:15) How a refugee fired in 1933 figured out the chemistry your cream still runs on.(16:30) The second half of the decline almost no skincare addresses.(19:45) The master regulator that decides whether your cells can hire.(24:00) The two columns of mitochondrial biology and why most brands only work in one.(32:10) Why this is a ten-year strategy, not a two-week one.Resources Mentioned:Download the Cellular Energy Protocol: https://www.younggoose.com/pages/the-mitochondrial-skin-stackAge-Associated Changes in Oxidative Stress and NAD+ Study: journals.plos.org/plosone/article/FASEB study on how methylene blue delays cellular senescence cells: faseb.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/Find more from Young Goose:Use code PODCAST10 to get 10% OFF your first purchase, and if you're a returning customer use the code PODCAST5 to get 5% OFF at younggoose.comInstagram: @young_goose_skincare

I'm a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives — and I knew about this fraud before the report came out, because I talked to the people who lived it.Today the House Oversight Committee released a 205-page report putting the scale of Minnesota's Medicaid fraud at up to $9 billion since 2018. The headline is that Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison were warned as early as 2019 and failed to act. That part is true. But there's a part of this story I have firsthand experience with — and it's the part four minutes of cable news won't have room for.During my Somali community outreach for the Republican Party, I met people who saw this grift up close. They wanted it exposed. But they were afraid — of the providers, of their own community, and most of all of the administration. One man told me he feared for his life. They wouldn't go to authorities connected to the Walz administration, because they believed it would make them a target. That's why this had to go federal. This is the whole mechanism — how $9 billion walked out the door over six years while the people who tried to stop it got punished for trying. And why the real lesson isn't "the other team is corrupt." It's structural. And it doesn't have a party.Discussed tonight on Fox News with Will Cain — full breakdown here.⏱️ CHAPTERS00:00 The $9 billion report01:18 What the report actually proves03:02 What I saw: my Somali community outreach06:55 The uncomfortable truth (this isn't partisan)https://x.com/WalterHudson⬇️ Watch, think critically, and decide for yourself.

Your subconscious mind is running 95% of your decisions. Your conscious mind, the part that's setting goals, making resolutions, and telling itself to do better, is only working with the remaining 5%. That gap is why knowing what you should do is never enough. Thais Gibson has spent over a decade building a framework that actually closes that gap. She is a counselor, founder of the Gibson Integrated Attachment Theory™, and has worked with over 60,000 people through The Personal Development School. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, she breaks down why self-sabotage is not what we all think it is, how your attachment style is quietly running your relationships, and the exact process to rewire patterns you have been carrying since childhood. This is one of those conversations that will make you look at your own behavior completely differently. What's Discussed: (00:05) The real reason your conscious goals keep losing to your subconscious programming. (15:30) What your attachment style is actually telling you about your childhood. You already know what to do. You know you should lift, you know you should walk, you know protein matters. The information was never the problem. So why do you keep falling off the second life gets busy, and why does it feel like the only thing standing between you and consistency is more discipline you cannot seem to build? Here is the truth most women never hear: it was never just about discipline. I sat down with Jordan Syatt, strength and nutrition coach to Gary Vaynerchuk and a five time world record powerlifter, to talk about the real reason women cannot stay consistent, and it comes down to a "perfectionism" trap that quietly gives you permission to quit every time you fall short. We also get into why walking is one of the most underrated things you can do for your body, the blood markers that tell you more about your health than the scale ever will, and his honest take on motivation, GLP-1s, and what it actually takes to stop starting over.If you're tired of starting over and finally want to build a sustainable road to fitness that'll snowball to consistency and habits, this episode is for you.  What's Discussed: (01:06) Why a short calorie tracking window can change how you eat. Joined by my special guest, Ann Foster of the Vulgar History podcast, we explore the contrasting roles and reputations of the Monroe daughters: Eliza, described as an "obstinate little firebrand" who served as an unofficial First Lady, and Maria, whose exclusive White House wedding ignited a social firestorm. The narrative follows the family from the heights of political influence to the financial scandals that shadowed their later years, offering a poignant look at the personal sacrifices and challenges behind early American power. The habits that actually optimize your health are not the hard ones. They are the small, low-effort ones you can do without rearranging your whole life. We get sold protocols and programs and things that can feel too complicated or demand time you do not have, so the simple hacks get passed over because it feels too obvious to matter. But the simplest and obvious healthy habits are obvious because they work. When you stack a few of them together, they compound into something that changes your life in the long run. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, I walk through the easy, low-effort habits I do every day that have optimized my life tenfold, even on the busiest days, from how I start my morning to how I trick myself into staying hydrated. Let's dive in! What's Discussed: (1:56) Why start every morning with 32 ounces of lemon water and how that can set up your whole day. (3:33) Why three short walks beat one long walk for your body. (5:19) Why working out first thing makes me sharper and more productive all day. (5:48) The impact of hot and cold therapy and how to do it without a sauna or cold plunge. (7:06) Why weight training is non-negotiable, especially after 40. (8:04) Why having healthy food on hand saves you from your own worst decisions. (8:42) The healthy habit nobody calls a habit: laughing every day. (9:51) The elastic band trick that forces you to actually drink enough water. Thank You to Our Sponsors! When you want to understand someone's success, you look at what they built. The company, the exit, the valuation. But James Beshara says you are looking at the wrong thing. You are studying the fruit when the real story is in the roots. James has built three separate companies to nine-figure valuations before 40, ranks as the top #2 angel investor on AngelList, and has made over 100 startup bets. He is also the founder of Magic Mind and after 14 years of investing and 18 years of building companies, he has learned that the founders who get funded are not the ones with the best pitch deck. In this episode of Habits and Hustle, James shares why he backs the founder and not the business, what he looks for in the first 7 minutes of meeting someone, and why a product that is merely liked will always lose to one that is loved. He also breaks down the science behind Magic Mind, why your coffee habit may be working against you, and the morning philosophy practice that shapes how he makes every decision. If you have ever wondered what investors are really evaluating when they decide to bet on you, this conversation gives you the answer, and it starts with looking at the roots. What's Discussed: (02:53) The roots versus fruits reframe and why copying success usually backfires. (10:14) The 7-minute window that tells James whether he wants to work with a founder. (16:41) Why investors back the founder, not the business, and the 40% likability edge. (25:33) Magic Mind: Why caffeine shuts off your fatigue signal instead of giving you energy. (45:30) The Bezos rule: innovators must be willing to be misunderstood. (1:07:51) What selling a company for less than he raised actually taught him. (1:17:59) Why a product that people buy when it is “ugly” is the only kind worth scaling. (1:28:55) Why running toward failure is how you avoid the failure that ends you. Thank You to Our Sponsors!
