We have quite the show today, Andrew Padre Cura and Jalen Lam will be sharing the whole electrical truth, trades, and the industry, might want to buckle in for this one. Two Conestoga graduates under the Electrical Technician Program, nothing but praise about the school. Andrew opens the show with an interesting story with every perfect storm possible, wiring mistakes, ministry of labour arriving on site, unsafe work site and no PPE. 5 mins early, makes you 10 mins late, arrive on site and ready to go on time, all the time. The guys discuss their career paths and how it always starts with subdivision and high rise and how nobody cares because it's gets it done fast, not right mentality, aka “running shoe electrics” leading to a racoon being stuck inside the wall cavity. Andrew shares a few stories that will make your stomach twists, use caution when hearing this part of the show. We discuss the rates and how covid has now made rates higher on all levels and rightfully so. Andrew and Jalen share more than a few safety stories and how things really are, not for the faint at heart. We need to lighten up the show as all this reality check takes a toll, so I ask the guys, are you the guys hanging all the light fixtures at home and for friends and family? We discuss schooling, on site, expectations, and even debating going all the way to get your master license and the stigma attached. Andrew shares an interesting story about HGTV and one of their current renoactors, must listen and when you do and we don't divulge which one it was, but I already knew, reach out and I will share the name. The guys wrap up the show with some great pieces of advice for any new trades coming up and it all starts with listening and ask questions. One very last thought to consider, where will electrical industry be in 10 years, the guys talk about consumption. Aadil from WorknWear is on the show today, since 1975 they have been outfitting tradespeople and more with the proper work wear, safety wear, fire rated wear, long underwear, and more. I have a huge amount of respect for Aadil and his staff and how they treat everyone that enters the shop, buys online, the same way, with respect because Aadil knows you work hard as a tradesperson. Aadil shares his insight on which products and why are they good for your specific trade and application, he has no loyalty to one brand or another, he listens to the tradesperson and makes his suggestion. We discuss all types of work wear, washing work wear, fire safe work wear and insoles for your footwear, great tips are shared here. Watch for @stotthavcsystems as they shop at his store all the time, AKA the HVAC Ninjas when they are wearing all Snickers, all black. Tradespeople need to understand spending money on the proper work wear makes sense, as a tradesperson, you are in these clothes, wearing these boots, for 8-10 hours a day, stop telling yourself, “It's just work wear” it's more than work wear. Your work wear makes you money, if you are not comfortable you can't work to your full potential. We discuss being a small business during these difficult pandemic times and how expenses have gone up but most Mom and Pop shops can't raise their prices. Episode 111: Journaling For Mindfulness With Guest Josephine Atluri   In this episode, Josephine Atluri discusses using journaling to help with mindfulness and parenting. She discussed ways to engage in mindfulness along with your child, as well as ways to communicate in a mindful way with your child. She provides examples for when mindfulness worked in parenting for her. Discussed the importance of examining expectations as a parent and to set intentions in your interactions with your children. Otherwise, you might be placing too much your child and placing extra demands on them. Use intentions to let things flow, rather than fighting obstacles to make things happen. It allows you to let unhelpful thoughts go. You can engage in emotional awareness by spending time being mindful just being aware of what you are doing and feeling. You can always set an alarm to check in with your body and your emotions. Then, give yourself whatever you need in the moment to care for yourself. Affirmations are really helpful to improve mood and self-esteem. It is a way of giving yourself extra love and caring. Document triggers throughout the week. This recognition of the patterns helps you to put strategies in place to avoid the situation or better cope with them in order to minimize anger or stress. You can better use stress management techniques and using what works for you. With practice, you can recognize other triggers more easily. Letting go and letting go of control is useful to allow the child to be who they are and to be able to enjoy therm. They will be heard and supported and that they were given what they needed in the moment. Take in the joy of others. Try to allow yourself to experience joy each day, without participating in it. Watch the happiness of your children. Help others. Enjoy a self-care moment. In this episode of K9 Conservationists, Kayla Fratt talks about off-leash etiquette in order to keep your dogs, yourself, others, and the environment safe. Discussed in this Podcast: Off-leash is a privilege and owners carry a responsibility when utilizing that privilege Ensure your dog has solid recall, especially around distractions Look for signage; follow the law - if the trail or area is on leash, there's a reason for it When you arrive at a trail, observe your surroundings Are there lots of cars indicating lots of people? Do the cars have bike racks? If so, is your dog reliable around bikes? When in doubt, use a long line Not only do you have to think about the safety of other people and dogs, you also have to think about the environment Your dog should not chase any wildlife; even if they don't catch it, that is undue stress on wildlife Do research on what animals live in the environment you're in to ensure yours and the wildlife's safety Links Mentioned in the Episode: None You can support the K9 Conservationists Podcast by joining our Patreon at patreon.com/k9conservationists. Tom O'Keefe is a social impact entrepreneur, and the founder of Stride for Stride, Heart to Cart, and Bostontweet. Stride for Stride is a non-profit running organization that buys race bibs for immigrant, BIPOC, and low-income runners. Their goal is to make races more accessible and more diverse. Tom started Stride for Stride in 2018 after struggling to pay for race bibs and observing that most races lacked diversity - his assumption was that this was due, in part, to the high cost of entry. Since 2018, Stride for Stride has grown to over 60 avid runners from over a dozen countries. They compete in everything from marathons to 5Ks, and even a 50-mile Ultra. All but two of their runners are immigrants representing the following countries; Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, Nigeria, and the United States, as well as Puerto Rico. There is no other sport where you're competing with them; you can't play football with Tom Brady. The same thing goes for wage inequity. A CEO makes 258 times what the average employee makes, which is awful, but if those two guys run the same race, the employee could beat the CEO. How empowering is that?” --“When you finish a race, you're high-fiving everyone. That's all you care about—that you ran. You're just so happy for yourself and for everyone else. Nothing else matters at that point. Today's show is all about high rise maintenance with Chris Clarry of Hardwork Canada, Chris goes where most of us will never, fixing things that should never have failed, but they do because erecting high-rise structures is all about how fast, not how good. Chris is truly a forensic contractor, sourcing out why buildings are failing, assessing things, and then making the proper repairs one time.Coming from a troubled youth and even getting into drugs, Chris was able to pull himself out that world with the help of key people. After his treatment it was construction that saved his life, renting a place with a landlord that worked in high-rise, he showed Chris how to lay brick, operate a zoom boom, and Chris's construction career began. Working with engineers as they create a binder and scope of work and specs to make the repair and sometimes, he must do it all on his own based on the property maintenance budget, Chris enjoys the problem solving.Chris discusses crack repairs, membrane applications, concrete surface preparation and more, there are so many key steps during the entire process, he shares a great trade tip to discover if there are any voids in the concrete, a must listen for sure. Chris shares his insights on the job site safety with the gear and traveling to the top of buildings and work at the top of buildings even shares a story about a neighboring crane that collided with a swing stage causing some major issues on the building Chris was working on.As a side hustle Chris has been doing a lot of research into blockchain and crypto currency and I asked him to share some info on it. Coming from a broken home with a single mom raising him and his brother, life was hard for his family and when he found fitness it became his escape. Training begins with body types, which of the 3 are you? Ectomorph, Mesomorph, Endomorph, focus on your body type to begin with. At 21 with the help of his wrestling coach, Dimitri was able to compete in his first show and he won. From there he worked in fitness clubs, good and bad ones, mostly bad ones, he saw where they could improve and how to improve. With the guidance of a mentor, Dimitri left the corporate life, and he took a chance and went on his own and built Pure Motivation Fitness, that was 15 years ago.Dimitri discusses customizing your fitness goals to your body type and truly understand why he is going to suggest eating habits, exercise techniques, weight training to suit your body. Dimitri wants to be your coach; everyone needs a coach to make sure you are held accountable to your health and fitness goals. 3 Key principles, Mindset, Training and Nutrition last.Dimitri isn't here to preach, he's here to help you change your life for the better, loosing body fat adds years of extra life. It's simply about taking bad habits and placing good habits in front of it, that is how you slowly change your day-to-day events, such as smoking. Accept, Acknowledge and Advance, 3 counts of accountability. Tim Lyons once taught Dimitri, “embrace the suck” Covid happened, and he had to embrace the suck to get over it.Dimitri shares some great insight into the medical industry and how to handle your doctor, your injuries, and avoiding pharmaceutical assistance. Here in Canada, we have the right to ask for a 2nd or 3rd and we have the right to ask for ultrasounds, x-rays and MRI's, we need to see what the problem is so we can figure out the best course of action because a pill may not always be best option for you. Dimitri pulls out the calculator and shows you how you can calculate the potential to have a heart attack or stroke based on your current state of resting heart rate, this will open you eyes wide. Dimitri has done an amazing job motivating, educating and empowering people and now it's time for Tradespeople to take back their lives.Shared and Discussed linkshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Herbert_Sheldonhttps://www.synviscone.ca/clinics/dr-anthony-(tony)-galea-ism-health-wellness-centre?i=17&culture=enhttps://www.poliquinstore.com/articleshttps://www.wimhofmethod.com/breathing-exercisesCheck out his app on Apple and AndroidWhat an amazing show full of truth, pain, fitness, health, exercises and more, I thank you so much Dimitri for sharing so much on your life for our construction lives, educating our listeners on everything to do with your body, mind and soul. Being Eve - Loving, Living and Thriving without Losing the Authentic you!

What's up, Squad!! In this episode, we are talking about being Saved by Choice... And this is Christina's story! Christina Price was born and raised in Brooklyn and grew up in a Hindu household. She accepted Jesus as a teenager after being introduced to Christianity by her mother, who became saved herself just a few years before passing away from cancer. After her mother's demise, she realized that her faith and foundation in Christ was not as strong as she had believed! When a traumatic event like the death of a loved one happens to us, we normally tend to become angry and blame God and that's what Christina did and she distanced herself from God. In addition to this, she got a divorce and this made her feel like she had lost her identity as a mother and a wife! This was slowly drowning her for she battled everything alone because... Often, as women, we tend to hide whatever we are going through from everyone and to those we LET IN... we talk to them about what we ONLY want them to know! In her mid 30's, she came to know Christ once again and immediately started healing from her trauma (death and divorce), depression and anxiety. Immediately, new doors and opportunities started opening up for her! She was on a journey to healing and learning more about God and His love. Christina believes sharing her experiences will encourage readers to stretch past the superficial trappings of life and embrace the sovereignty of God's purpose in their lives. Discussed in this episode: Accepting Jesus doesn't mean that all bad things in life have been scrapped off. Why we should always take time to heal. Today I'm joined by the brainy and delightful bestselling sci-fi/fantasy author Lindsey Sparks, who got me to read a book that approximately one million people have recommended to me. Lindsey calls “A Discovery of Witches” a grown-up Twilight meets the Da Vinci Code, which I think is spot on. She also blew my mind when she explained how a good sci-fi or fantasy novel will stand on its own when all fantastical elements are pulled out of it, which in turn made me rethink what I have liked about the few books in those genres I've read. Jeff from GL Plumbing is on the show today, commercial and residential master plumber. He understands his Italian surname but always questioned his first name, his mom wanted him to blend in, but he stands out, he's one of the best plumbers in the industry and today he will share a lot of love for the industry, the trade, the people he works with and for. Hold on, this will be an amazing podcast and listen up all you younger trades looking for an opportunity.Jeff began his plumbing career the old fashion old school Italian way, his Tile Setter Dad knew a guy that needed an apprentice, with Jeff it was either plumbing or electrical, he went with plumbing, they work harder than sparky's…lol. Jeff began in high rise with copper, copper as large as 6” where you need two torches to get that pipe cherry red hot. The one thing that drove Jeff to leave high rise, was the repetitive scope of work, to the point that guys became their tasks, bathtub jeff, or finishing Tony…lol. Jeff shares a few interesting details regarding hospital plumbing, great info shared here.Jeff shares one of his major Bone To Pick and we can all relate. The conversation continues with running a business during Covid, his workforce, his clients, and his sub-contractors which leads to hiring new employees, how hard it is to find any kind of trade, how these job search websites don't work just like the people using the service, these and they are mostly millennials don't care about learning, they care about money and being paid top dollar for min amount of work. Nobody will hire that kind of attitude. We do discuss the vaccine and clients are now asking that all tradespeople entering their home, mostly commercial spaces are asking for proof. On top of trying to run a business, hiring tradespeople that only care about themselves, we as construction business owner and operators must now add one more hurdle into the mix. It is causing more unwanted stress to so many tradespeople. Don't expect anything for free and never give away your skills for free. Patricio disappeared on his motorcycle and did a road trip out east and that trip gave him the confidence to get back into the trades, he became a master electrician. From there he was paying attention to the 2 groups of tradespeople that are getting hurt the most, the new kids and the old timers, new kids because they have something to prove, the old timers because they have done it a thousand times.Patricio shares another story about new tradespeople being tasked to carry a 1500-pound transformer up the stairs, sure enough only one of the new trades said no while the others agreed, it didn't end well. Patricio talks about knowing your basic right to refuse unsafe work, never be pressured to do something that you as a tradesperson know is not safe. The conversation shifts to education, getting trades back into high schools and making guidance counselors to present trades as an option to every student, not every student is going to or want to go to university, some are passionate about construction. We compare trades to other careers, we discuss how learning the electrical trade here in Canada and the USA means you can use that trade globally, you can go work in other countries as options.New trades, old trades, Journeymen, everyone, take the second and ask if you have your PPE and make sure others around you have their PPE, take the time to put on your PPE.Not everything is rainbows and butterflies.Shared and Discussed linkshttps://www.kleintools.comhttps://www.fluke.com/en-caWhat an amazing show full of enlightening insight, I thank you so much Patricio for sharing so much on your take on construction and more, educating our listeners on everything to do with your trade, men and women in construction and skills. We have one hell of a great show today, Sunaina, a self-taught taper with 6 years in the business, coming from university degrees to bartender, to construction, to dog grooming and more. Sunaina will not be holding back, she has a lot to say about the construction life and yes, we will discuss men and women in construction and how men treat women and why.A first for TCL we have a puppy on the show, Sir Nicholas Liam will be sharing a few of his thoughts throughout the show which brings us to a side hustle of Sunaina – Pup-StructionWe get right into women in construction and inappropriate behavior, no sugar coating anything here. Sunaina brings up a recent scenario that unfolded where the upper management felt it was better to remove the female and make the males comfortable then to educate the males to be respectful of the female, which is total BULLSHIT. She brings up a great comparison about socializing dogs to tradesmen. We back track a little bit and bring up Sunaina's path to construction, she has a triple degree from the University of Waterloo, in Drugs and Addiction Health Promotion, with a minor in sexuality, family and marriage studies. Bartending to pay bills, then her roommate had a connection to construction and that is where it all began for Sunaina during her educational years. She doesn't regret the school, but she wishes started sooner in construction. We discuss taping tools and where and why certain tools and brands will and won't work for her scope, always considering why don't you as a tradesperson not like one brand over another. Then we get into mud and how Sunaina has such a hatred for 5-minute mud as we all should. We discuss PPE and coming into the construction industry, one day you the student will be the teacher one day and we have to watch out for all of our brothers and sisters in construction. We end the show we Sunaina's sharing some thoughts on Covid and Vaccines. She shares some very interesting thoughts behind both, some things to consider.Shared and Discussed linkshttps://csrbuilding.com@eugene_crsbuildingsupplieshttps://www.nela.toolshttps://www.level5tools.comhttps://www.usg.com/content/usgcom/en/products/walls/drywall/joint-compound/lightweight-joint-compounds/sheetrock-plus-3-joint-compound.htmlhttps://www.certainteed.com/drywall/finishing/products/easi-fil-dust-away-joint-compound/What an amazing show full of enlightening insight, I thank you so much Sunaina for sharing so much on your take on construction and more, educating our listeners on everything to do with your taping, trades, men and women in construction and skills.
