Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2019 51:08

In this new series, I am discussing various topics connected to art with Birmingham based artists and other art world insiders. They are more laid back versions of standard 'talking heads' interviews. Video podcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnVvJaLfx6k&feature=youtu.be The idea for this podcast came from Contemporary Lynx's invitation to write about how do artists and curators work together. For the article in Contemporary Lynx I interviewed Jonathan Watkins (Director, Ikon Gallery, Birmingham), the owner of commercial gallery Joanna Gemes (l'étrangère, London), the co-founder of an artist-run space Karolina Korupczyńska (Stryx, Birmingham) and two internationally renowned artists: Tereza Buskova and Khadija von Zinnenburg Carroll. This podcast is the full recording of my conversation with Karolina Korupczyńska. -MENTIONS- Stryx: http://stryx.co.uk/ Digbeth First Friday: https://digbethfirstfriday.com/ My video about Digbeth First Friday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7CSdizc1PA Grand Union: https://grand-union.org.uk/ Vivid Projects: http://www.vividprojects.org.uk/

Next one in the series of my interviews with most interesting Polish artists living in the UK. This time I'm in conversation with Justyna Scheuring. You can read the full version of the interview on Contemporary Lynx website and watch a video version on my YT channel https://youtu.be/_Yt_fp0Npks http://contemporarylynx.co.uk/embracing-difference Subscribe to my YT channel: https://bit.ly/2ND3jht Justyna Scheuring's practice revolves around the emotional presence of a human being and groups of people in social situations. Therefore her recent works are mainly performances and performative events, which become the subject of her films, but also installations, drawings and video. She performs herself and directs performative events which are designed to challenge our pre-conceptions of participation in social or cultural events. By playing with conventional forms of social participation - she sets up new parameters and conditions for human interaction - turning them into a testing ground or an area for new experiencing. Her practice brings attention to the experience itself and researches possibilities for including the language of human emotional and instinctive reactions within the language of art. Most of her art projects speak about: presence, mutual relations and instinctive reactions, the formation of group identities, social behaviours as well as an encounter and Difference. Justyna Scheuring is a Polish artist based in London. She received her MFA from the University of Arts in Poznań followed by an MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths University of London. - MY LINKS - My website - http://romapiotrowska.com/ Instagram - @romapiotrowska https://www.instagram.com/romapiotrowska/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/romamoroma?lang=en

Next one in the series of my interviews with most interesting Polish artists living in the UK. This time I'm in conversation with Alicja Rogalska. You can read the full version of the interview on Contemporary Lynx website and watch a video version on my YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtWEkgTPTyI&t=737s http://contemporarylynx.co.uk/we-need-to-create-alternatives-for-the-future-and-we-need-to-create-them-now-collectively Alicja Rogalska is an artist based in London. Her practice is interdisciplinary and encompasses both research and production with a focus on social structures and the political subtext of the everyday. She mostly works in context on projects that involve participation, creating situations and collaboration with others, brought to the project for their particular skill or expertise. These events and ephemeral moments act as catalysts for collective questioning, imagining, reflecting and testing different ways of being together. Being both rooted in a context and speculative, her projects aim to occupy the space between what already exists and what is possible. Alicja graduated with an MFA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London and an MA in Cultural Studies from the University of Warsaw.
