Looking at relationships viewed through an art form like a film, story, or music video. Usually not the primary relationship, but one from a secondary storyline. Not on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, or any other social media. Email address: bittersweetramblingspodcast@gmail.com
The Scooby Doo Gang was just trying to do their own thing. Making it from day to day, livin' the van life. Solving mysteries others couldn't in towns across the country just to have a place to sleep and food to eat. Can you run without being chased? I think not. What were they on the run from? This show helped to convince a young grade school me that teen mystery solving gangs were a thing. That somehow if you found the right group, you too to go around solving mysteries. As long as one member of the team had a van to drive, so that you could file out of the van like a team. At the time, it did not occur to me that you needed both other team members, and some actual mysteries to solve. Also, if it were that easy, there would be about 10 vans loaded down with mystery solving teens. There I was, up watching yet another edited for TV horror movie late at night. Not wanting to go to bed, but not really feeling any interest in yet another teens in peril movie. Until she came onto the screen. Hair flowing, bow neatly tied, charisma in spades. She was smart. She was sweet. She was a survivor. Her name was Muffin, and she may nip at you if you step on her paws. All songs from the Free Music Archive: http://freemusicarchive.org TRG Banks - Chicken John Loyalty Freak Music - Hello Regan! When you need motivation to clean, because the piles keep growing, sometimes terror works better than aspiration. When you are very young, and you like certain songs, sometimes you end up watching music videos over and over. And the video is kind of confusing, but you watch it anyway. Then, years later, you look it up again, and you realize why it stayed with you all of those years. Self Control by Laura Branigan was a music video with a lot of masks. And a creepy doll. And mannequins, so many mannequins. Black Swan style makeup. There was also an orgy scene. Then, sometimes you find out years later that the video was directed by William Friedkin, and your distrust of mannequins, cellos, and anyone wearing red gloves becomes clear. Say you buy a new vacation cabin in the woods. You got a good deal on it, but it is going to need a bit of work. And by a bit of work, there is actually a lot of work. And you go up to work on the cabin with your friend, who ditches work to play flirty time with someone with a concussion. And by the end of the weekend, everything is destroyed, and your fingers don't match. Tucker deserves a little a little bit of appreciation and maybe a bit of justice. Per the new ghost shows on Travel Channel or TRVL, ghosts have transformed from spooky mists with tragic backstories, to mind-controlling shadows that will destroy your life and try to kill you. Because a shadow can suddenly make you act like a jerk around your friends, you didn't just do that on your own. Also, I think I need to take up looking for haunted items in people's homes. I'll just look for the most expensive trinkets, convince the homeowners that they summon demons. Then I will offer to take them to my super safe museum (i.e. my basement), until they can safely be disarmed or destroyed (i.e. sold on Ebay). It's my new business plan. I don't see how this can go wrong. It was hubris to think that I could get another episode out in the time frame I gave on the last episode. I laughed in the faces of the podcast deities. They responded by bringing their wrath down upon my household and sending a plague of creepy door to door salesmen to my residence. The salesmen did bring back fond memories of the Home Interior and Gifts parties that may mom was suckered into giving on a semi-annual basis. Explaining why my childhood home was filled with framed pictures of sad children next to wagon wheels, ceramic animals that stared into your soul, and enough gold paint to bring tears of joy to a Magpie. Sometimes you are looking for old songs, and you drift into rabbit holes of blissful nostalgia. Deep dark rabbit holes with songs by Kenny Loggins drawing you further into the dark. And you're thinking to yourself, wait, Kenny is leading you too far into the dark. Turn back before it's too late. But his dulcet tone draws you further in. Then you watch a video starring a heavily bearded nearly middle-aged Kenny breaking out of prison to be with his teenage girlfriend (played by Virginia Madsen). And also nunchucks are involved. You know, I'm a calm person. Known for being calm and understanding and taking things easy. The picture of a calm breeze on an open field kind of calm. Then I saw Hereditary. Weeks after watching this movie, there have been requests for me to stop whining about the ending. Those requests were denied. Unless you want to see a bunch of elderly naked people acting weird, this movie is probably not for you. Movies are just moving paintings with sound. They keep you very close to them, and away from the light of day. They lie to you. They tell you things only a moviegoer can understand. But they are really pretty beasts. Under the Silver Lake is brilliant if you are a teenager who is obsessed with playing records backwards for secret messages. In other words, if you are looking for conspiracies everywhere because you are very, very, bored, you'll probably like this movie. It's a really pretty movie if you turn the sound off, though. And your storyline is probably going to be better. The Kissing Booth is a Netflix film that was picked when my niece, because all my movie choices are "too old". Yes, she is 12. She is guesting on this episode because she told me that she was guesting, and I find it best not to argue with her. We talk about which part of the movie to skip (the entire second half - spoiler), which animals she will allow to live when she is a veterinarian, and what human being she would be willing to feed to a hungry animal. 50 First Dates is the story of a man who is obsessed with reliving the first date experience, and his dream girl who has head trauma, and can't remember any of their dates. Alien is a movie about a Space Tug that was sent to do scientific research, because their power-driven manager was trying to hijack another department's meeting. Promising the moon and stars to the executives in attendance because the other manager took the last danish. As a notice to all the space corporations out there, maybe don't send a space tugboat crew to do potentially dangerous space exploration. Maybe focus on their strengths, like space tugboating. Weird Science is an attempt to do a Cinderella story for the 80's boys. In the 80’s kids were traumatized by threats of an possible impending nuclear missile, by the threat of being kidnapped, or by not being close to a pay phone.
