Hello to my fantastic listening audience across the internet. Welcome to the latest installment of my podcast. I've been a busy boy this week. Mourning the loss of a head coach, paired with the end of the season for the Heels, planting a flowerbed and exponentially expanding a Pokemon collection in a weekend really can take it out of a fella. I watched the first half of the Dook Uconn game today and left the house in an upset storm around halftime to deal with my Pokemon affairs. Left the house angry because Duke was winning by 20, not thinking in the least that Uconn would come back and have one of the best finishes I've seen in years. Wow I do love this game. My favorite time of year if I'm being honest is still the fall because of the trees in the mountains. BUT March is a close second because of things like that Duke Uconn finish. March Madness makes it fun to be alive for a month. I did finish dead last in the bracket pool that I entered. Saint John's let the boy down. Tough cheese. I hope some individual out there enjoyed the episode. Honey Bee by Muddy Waters and company really kicks the mule. Prince on Plectrumelectrum is suuuuch a nice tone and still to this day, Jimmy Page playing No Quarter at The O2 Arena in my opinion is the best example of guitar playing that one could offer. Whoever reads this, God bless. But you're here so what the heck. In four months I've managed to find and maintain a loophole in the Pokemon card world that has allowed me to catapult rather quickly to an impressive collection. A card shop owner this week told another customer that I most likely have more than enough to become a vendor at card shows. I believe that he is right. To give a visual, it is currently 5 full binders of modern, 2 full binders of vintage and a huge tote box full of the more fancy stuff. All sorted and organized. I felt like the Daywalker at that card show this weekend absolutely going nuts in there and balling out of control. No shame at all. I'm a 33 year old man with more game than an arcade. I handed an ol boy a handful of cards for trade value earlier today. I read this guy like My Side of the Mountain. After seeing the top 3 cards in the stack, buddy looked up at me like I was Neo in the Matrix. "How did you know I liked this stuff?" his question to which I replied "Who doesn't like that stuff"? He gave a trade value offer and I cracked buddy for a nasty Mewtwo. WHAT AN EAR BEATING. The point is, I almost didn't have time for my ever-faithful listening audience across the inter webs because I was too busy balling out of control. Submitting this at midnight like Cinderella. The tension escalates as the Malarkey takes heavy hull damage, eventually triggering the critical hit system, reducing the ship's maximum speed and pushing the crew to the brink. The encounter becomes a perfect example of how Edge of the Empire blends mechanics and storytelling, with: narrative dice producing wildly swingy outcomes advantage and threat driving cinematic moments and player decisions constantly balancing offense vs survival Despite near disaster—and a lot of yelling at Brap-Brap—the crew manages to turn the tide. A combination of autofire weapon bursts, stacked advantage results, and clutch piloting decisions allows them to systematically destroy the pursuing TIE fighters. The episode ends with the crew battered but alive, having survived: overwhelming Imperial pressure catastrophic system failures and their own questionable tactical decisions This is peak Star Wars TTRPG actual play chaos—where the rules bend just enough to let the story explode (literally). After escaping the chaos of the cantina and evading Imperial forces, the crew descends into the station's maintenance tunnels. What should have been a straightforward Star Wars RPG dungeon crawl equivalent quickly turns bizarre when they encounter a massive group of identical individuals—revealed to be a strange population of clone-like workers living in isolation. These clones appear confused, unhealthy, and deeply devoted to a mysterious figure known as Astromach—a partially dismantled astromech droid elevated to god-like status. This encounter becomes a perfect showcase of narrative roleplaying in the Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars system, where player improvisation drives the story far more than mechanics. While Fricata (the Wookiee slicer) attempts to complete the objective using computers checks and slicing mechanics, Nelbren (the Twi'lek smuggler) distracts the crowd using deception, persuasion, and sheer confidence. The session highlights how advantage, threat, and triumph results shape outcomes in unexpected ways—including triggering panic, suspicion, and near-disaster. Meanwhile, the slicing operation becomes a race against time, demonstrating how GMs can structure skill challenges in the Genesys / Edge of the Empire system. “We read so as not to feel alone.” — C.S. Lewis (possibly)Dan Turello is a cultural historian of medieval Italy, a much published photographer, and the author of the new Connection: How Technology Can Make Us Better Humans. I'm sceptical. Especially the promise (or illusion) of better humans. But Turello's definition of technology goes back further than most — all the way to the original fig leaf. When Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden, the first thing they did, he reminds us, was cover their bodies. Technology, then, in Turello's framing, is everything that extends beyond the human body. Clothing is technology. Double-entry bookkeeping is technology. The iPhone is just the latest chapter of our technology story that began at the beginning.His most surprising argument is that our current tech anxiety has medieval roots. St. Francis of Assisi was what he calls a trust-fund kid “avant la lettre” — his father being a wealthy 13th century silk merchant at a time when northern Italy was Silicon Valley. Francis sold some of his dad's silk, gave the money away, stripped naked before a bishop, and founded a counterculture movement. The first tech backlash, Turello suggests, wasn't against AI. It was against double-entry bookkeeping. Dante, writing a generation later, idealised an earlier, simpler Florence — what scholars call “paleolithic chic.” No makeup, no ornate clothing, no fleeing to immoral cities. Sound familiar?On AI, Turello goes a bit Saint Francis on us. Large language models, he fears, generate material without lineage — you can't trace where the ideas came from, can't triangulate the sources, can't validate against reality. Technology is about power, Turello argues — about who controls the storyline. Making us better humans, then, requires recovering a sense of agency. Thus he argues that we should stop outsourcing our thinking, our writing, our photography to machines. Dante wrote the entire Divine Comedy without Claude. These days, we can barely write an email without a little help from our friends at ChatGPT. Machiavelli donned the robes of the past to think and write. We might try putting ours on too.
