Coach Dad - A Grassroots Podcast

After a long break I'm back. So much to unpack that has happened over the last month or two! I quickly look back at our first half of the season and give a my rating on how we've done. I talking about the importance of having a rest at Christmas. Have we really turned a corner? We have another win to look at, yes that is right! Another positive result. We're cooking now!!! We had a girl come and train with us, something new for us all, so I have a look at the dynamic of coaching a girl and girls football at the grassroots level. I look at our next fixture, a cup game against a team we have had a positive result against, could we? Can we? Go on, lets have a cup run!!! On this weeks episode I look at the total lack of football over the last few weeks. I look at our one and only game and how did we deal with a very good side after the highs of a W. I talk about my own big format changes coming for the podcast in the new year and talk about having guests on in my new feature "The Changing Room". So this week is a short and sweet episode. I take a look back on 2 weeks of football. I talk about our best performance of the my time coaching so far and how my boys played some great football. Loads to go through on this weeks episode. We finally did it, a positive result! But did it feel like win? For the boys yes but bigger things lay ahead. Caleb had a couple of bad weeks that see his team fall from the top of the table. Whats going wrong? This is a quick episode in which I look back on the week in football in my household. I look at what my U9 team are starting to do well and talk about "the plan" and also have a look at Calebs game as they labour to another win. I have quick chat about poaching and give some brief thoughts on it.

This week I look back at a tough week as a coach after a heavy defeat and I start to dissect where it all went wrong I take a deep dive into issues around behaviour. A shorter episode this week as I look back at the week in football in my household. There was plenty of penalty action in our games and a couple of negative results. I hear from Austin and Caleb and I also look at next weeks games.

On this weeks episode I look at winning. Does winning matter? I give you my thoughts on it and why they are now changing. I have an interview with Austin before and after his game. Did he win? So it's been a long summer and the football season is in sight and I'm back for season 2! In this episode I look back to my boys presentation days, I go into pre-season planning and I take a dive into our pre-season games. Question is, did we get a win? You'll have to listen to find out

On this weeks episode I jump around a few subjects. I take a look the WhatsApp group me and all the other managers are in and the league wanting to shut it down. I still don't know if you can play games in June! I look at a fun training session and what I've been doing and I also have a look at some ammusing Facebook posts. I also say what my favourite computer game is and look at my new hobby!

This week I take a look at the new FA rules set to be introduced banning all headers and throw-ins! I give my thoughts on it and have a look at some of the online reaction. Most of it negative, but me, well I think it's a good idea! I also have two games to look back on over the last two weeks. With two varying performances for very different reasons. Probably my most opinionated podcast to date!

On this weeks episode I have a look at when is the rigth time to stop. With pre-season, the season and end of season games it can be full on. Do coaches need to have a break, re-charge and go again. I also look at behaviour issue and how best to deal with them. As a new coach of a group of energetic boys, in-fighting and tattle tales are creeping in. Time to nip it in the bud and get the red card out?

Lets be honest for a change, there a serious problem with respect in football, even at the grassroots level. Have you witnessed a parent or a coach having a moan about a decision they deemed was wrong? We all have, haven't we. It's time to stamp it out for good. This week I look at referees, respect and bad behaviour that I've witnessed and encontered as a new football coach. Is zero tolerance the only way. Should the grassroots game have a bigger push and really protect refs and officials?

This week I take at look at everyones favourite subject, game time. Is your child being starved of vital game time and sits on the bench most weeks? Is your coach only playing the best players and you don't think it's fair? Being a coach I have an ethos of equal game time but I've seen on my travels that regardless of the FA guidelines, it's not always adhered to. I get deep into it and give my thoughts. Also we take a look at my boys football last weekend, finally a win, but who for?

This weeks episode focuses on how much time a grass roots volunteer gives up, for free, and the effect that can have on others, especially the wifes/girlfriends and other children. I also look at it from a parents point of view and just how much of a commitment signing your child up to a grassroots football team is, and the strain it has on time and finaces. Plus a special apperance from Craig David! And my boys, we look at how both Caleb and Austin got on in thier respective games, did my U8's sign off with a win in the last league fixture of the season? Find out on the Coach Dad Podcast

With thoughts turning to the end of the season, what happens from both sides of the white line? I look at unhappy parents looking to move thier children on, to coaches planning the off season. I also talk about the mad scramble for players and who really deserves personal awards at the end of season presentation day.
