Send us a textA year can include joy and pain without destroying you. In 2025, I said goodbye to my dad—the person I called on every big news story, new tech breakthrough, or small family win—and then rebuilt my life in a way he'd love to hear about. That mix of grief and momentum shaped everything: how I left about work, how I re-built my career, and how I chose where to invest my energy. The moment the fun drained out of a private equity‑owned, corporate job and the relief that came with choosing a nine‑person company where simple, focused execution mattered more than politics. Leads spiked, deals closed, and I found my stride again. With the commute gone, Refs Need Love Too took off: more than 2,000 orders shipped, new grip socks and made‑in‑USA buzzer flags, custom coins and badges for associations, and a robust global supply chain. On the creator side, TikTok and Facebook revenue jumped alongside brand partnerships, and creator events in Atlanta and LA cemented the feeling that I belong in that room—even as one of the oldest creators there. The mission sharpened with consulting work for US Soccer, where I helped launch the national referee abuse policy with videos, social assets, and a clear message that reached millions. That momentum led to a full‑time role with SoCal Soccer, building referee development and a learning platform that bridges the macro and micro: content for a global community and hands‑on training for refs running U8 fields every weekend. On the whistle, I earned high school playoff assignments, State Cup finals, and a U.S. women's youth national team AR slot, then headed to MLS Nextfest to learn from FIFA and CONCACAF referee coaches about the living nature of the game, the spirit of the laws, and the art of reading play.Family milestones kept me grounded, and to honor my dad's kindness, I'm launching the Pops Scholarship Fund: annual $1,000 and $500 awards for young referees pursuing education. It's a way to keep his name moving forward while investing in the next voices with a whistle. If you're building a life you'd be proud to tell someone you miss, you'll find a lot to hold onto here—practical playbooks, hard‑won lessons, and a strong heartbeat for the referee community. Listen, share with a friend who needs momentum, and leave a review to help more refs find us.Support the show

What we really need is not a new vehicle but a biblical faith that can get us through any situation in life. That kind of faith is not only more important but a whole lot cheaper than the U8.
Have you ever left a youth soccer game feeling furious at the referee? It's a familiar scene: parents and fans seething on the sidelines, convinced the referee has 'robbed' their kids of victory. I'm David Gerson, and in this episode, I confront this blame game head-on, championing personal responsibility over misguided finger-pointing. Referees aren't the puppet masters of the game's outcome; it's the players and coaches who carve their destiny on the pitch. I share my vexation with the slew of messages from disgruntled spectators and dissect the real factors that tip the scales in a match. It's a call to parents and coaches alike to instill resilience and accountability in our young athletes, fostering a mindset that values effort over excuses.Let's be honest, youth soccer isn't about the scoreboard; it's about growth, teamwork, and the sheer joy of the sport. As I walk you through the essentials of nurturing our future soccer stars, I stress the significance of developing fundamental skills, soccer intelligence, and the right attitude from the tender U8 to U12 levels. I tackle the toxic 'joysticking' habit of sideline coaching that stifles a child's decision-making skills and dims their passion for the game. Instead, I advocate for an environment that breeds respect, empowerment, and a genuine love for soccer. Belz is joined by Kirk Kinsey, director of Flagstaff Revolution, a grassroots club in Arizona, and Jesse Howe, the director of coaching at the Calvert Soccer Association, a grassroots soccer program in Maryland. All three of us are working in the trenches of rec soccer, trying to help more kids learn to love the ball and the game. Jesse just got back from a national symposium on grassroots soccer in Minneapolis, and he gives a brief report on that, and then we just talk through a lot of the challenges and some solutions that work in coaching U6 and U8 rec soccer. It's a long conversation and we cover a lot of topics, but I bet you'll enjoy it, find things to disagree with, and maybe even find a few things to agree with!Subscribe to Scuffed on Patreon! The Polestar 4 is expected to launch in China in November 2023, with a global release planned for 2024. Prices start at around €60,000. Polestar plans to start production in South Carolina in 2024 for the U.S. and European markets. The company aims to sell 80,000 cars this year, focusing on delivering more Polestar 2 hatchbacks. Tesla has reduced prices for its Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, with the Model 3 Standard Range RWD now priced below $40,000. The price cuts come as demand has decreased and interest rates have made car purchases more difficult. A study by iSeeCars found that Tesla has the most car recalls, with Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X making up four of the top five most recalled models. Brands with the least recalls include Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota. Following changes to California's net metering rules, Tesla announced that its Powerwall will help homeowners save up to 92% on their electricity bills. The intelligent and customizable software in Powerwall will optimize energy use for maximum savings. Gogoro partnered with Enel X to create virtual power plants (VPPs) from its battery swapping stations in Taiwan. These VPPs interact with Taiwan's power grid to supply energy when demand exceeds supply. New York State is providing $8.3 million in funding for 255 charging stations across 70 municipalities. The funding comes from the Municipal Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Grant Program. A poll revealed that 40% of U.S. adults are considering switching to electric vehicles (EVs) for their next purchase. However, concerns about high prices and a lack of charging infrastructure remain. BYD's premium brand, Yangwang, began pre-sales of its first model, the U8, at the Shanghai auto show for $160,000. The U8 has over 1,100 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. RAW Charging announced a deal with the National Trust to install charging stations at various heritage sites in the UK over the next three years, in an estimated £12m rollout. Scania and Northvolt have created an electric battery with a lifetime of 1.5 million kilometers, equivalent to a truck. The battery is produced at the Northvolt Ett gigafactory. Rolls-Royce launched its first all-electric car, the Shining, in China. The vehicle has a top speed of 250 km/h, a range of 585 km, and is priced at $8.

Episode 56: Taking Sheffield City FC Global Welcome to the 56th episode of the In The 11 Podcast! Today, Brendan Griffiths is joined by guests from the Sheffield City Football Club! Ash Greenwood, Daniel Simpson, and Ryan Hartle. They share their plans on expanding over to the US and why the next move is to grow bigger outside the UK. Building the club from the grassroots level, Ryan, Daniel, and Ash share that the goal is to promote the advocacy that football is for everyone. Preparing for the differences in the cultures of the game between England and the US is one thing, but getting to fit into the existing structure of the game in another country is different altogether. Nonetheless, they think that community involvement in the football club is just as crucial as it is anywhere. The culture of communicating and getting volunteers for the football club is just one of the many practices they would like to bring over, if not empower, in the US. More on the migration between systems in this episode so be sure to stay tuned! Taking SCFC global: Ash, Daniel, and Ryan share that they have already studied the differences between football and American soccer which is not only about the playstyles but also the structure of the system, the ladder that players can get to climb. Collectively agreeing that the American system is a little confusing unlike in England, they prepared by studying the hierarchy of different leagues and how to grow promotion-wise. Setting up structures that will fit into the American culture of soccer. Having said that regardless of age, gender, playing ability, etc., everyone should have the opportunity to play football, Ash recognizes the fact that it's all in the mindset of a person. They agree that the proper motivation to keep playing is important and knew that they had to be the ones creating this culture of willpower and drive in order to create an energetic environment for the players. About the Sheffield City FC: They are about to start competing in their inaugural season, as a Football Club.
