Dalkeith Road Church of Christ
Hey friends I’m here to serve! We are in a partnership in the Gospel, all ready to serve for the one hope that we have, life through Christ, to have impact in our world, together. Can we get to a place where we give thanks, give thanks to God for the people around us? Paul in Philippians is giving thanks to God for the Church in Philippi. Is it because Paul is awesome? It seems to be because the Church at Philippi did some things, for him while he was planting the Church at Philippi. What would it look like if we left any given situation that others thank God for us being in that situation? As a Church, how are we going to do that...
PhilippiansA Joy that can be had in light of enternity. Can we have a lens that we can experience Joy in all circumstances?
You are all the city on the hill, salt of the earth, you are all a lamp, we are a light, we are the Church on the corner, we are Dalkeith Road. Part of the point of early Christianity, the Church, the Church is although some people think we are mad, people like having us around, we are liked in the community, because we rejoice with those who rejoice and we weep with those who weep, we’re merciful, we are the peacemakers, among other things. Somehow God has chosen for this to be something more and he has given us a design on what it looks like.
“What if, The Church is far more that what we think it is?”, far more than us singing a few songs, listening to a message. What if God was wanting to do something in the world, far bigger than we’d ever imagine, or ever could imagine? What could happen if "The Church" started thinking with a “what if” mentality. Somehow God has chosen, this, "The Church" to be something more.I think that we can all agree that’d we’d disagree on many points, however our common thread, is our belief in Jesus, or at least our wanting to learn more about Jesus, or curiosity in Jesus. Do we agree on the Gospel? What is the Gospel? What if God was wanting to do something in the world far bigger than we could imagine, through his Spirit, through his Church?Ep 1:22 “And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the Church, which is his body, the fullness of him, who fills everything in every way”. That is, if you can handle it, the fullness of Jesus is in the Church. Its quite mystical how that even works, that somehow, the fullness of Jesus, Jesus is present in the world in the most powerful and with all authority, through us…
“Let your yes be yes and…. clarify your yes!”, Lets get super clear, so that the gap between expectation and reality is closer together
Trust builds, suspicion destroys. We can choose to trust others, that they are doing their best.
In the first week, we found that that story of The Bible began with the resurrection of Jesus, after the tomb was found empty, and the church launched. And suddenly, something was true that wasn't true before. Suddenly, there was interest in documenting the life, the words and the works of Jesus. That's why we say the story of the Bible actually begins with the Resurrection of Jesus. Thomas, actually touched Jesus’s wounds, he confirmed for us, the one thing that we would want to do if someone you knew was supposed to be dead. We have 4 Documents included in the Bible that document Jesus’ life. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They are called Gospels, meaning “Good News” When Gentiles became enamoured with Jesus, they immediately became enamoured with the sacred text of the Jews, the Hebrew, what we'll call the Hebrew Bible. The Hebrew Bible, or the Jewish Scripture, or what Jesus and first century people referred to as the Law and the Prophets. This Jewish Scripture was embraced as Christian Scripture. Early gentile church leaders were enamoured with Jewish Scripture, they were not interested in the Jewish religion, they were not looking in Jewish texts to get the story of the Jews, they were captivated by Jewish texts because they were looking for Jesus, there interest was Christological. The Jewish scripture that they started with is; what is called the Pentateuch, Penta (Five), Teuchos (Scrolls), literally the Five Scrolls. Those five scrolls are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, also known by Jewish people as the Torah.
You’re here because God made you for a purpose. You are not the result of a cosmic conflict between the gods. God wanted “image-bearers” who could know him and one another. And in the beginning we are introduced to the God who saves, redeems, delivers, and never gives up on us. He gave us freedom to choose, and he honors our choices. This week, Grant explores Genesis 1 as a part of our Bible for grown ups series… The world was created and an introduction to the one who created it.
Life is better with breathing room! Creating breathing room in our financial lives allows us to be more generous. Creating breathing room in our financial lives allows us to not have “money as our master”, which in the text explored today is not compatible with us claiming Jesus as “Lord of our lives”
God and us in the light of eternity. This series is about creating breathing room in our lives. Breathing room is that space that is between our limits and our current pace. With creating breathing room for our time, we may need to add, decrease, keep the same or maybe even cut some things that take up our time …Time is limited so we have to limit what we do with our time.+ - < >In this breath of this moment what do I need to add(+) subtract(-) less than () ?
God seeks to find the lost, parable of the lost sheep and coin;“I lost my mobile phone today, but don’t worry I still have my keys and car”, The thing that is lost somehow becomes most important to you. Everyone I know would go and look for the phone. It’s the same with God, he comes looking for us…Highlighting the text within the parable of the prodigal son, a disconnect relationally between the father and the son. The father actually lets his son go, waiting for him to return, to be able to relationally connect with his son again. Jesus is still seeking the broken and disconnected through us, his Church. When the broken and disconnected are connected and restored, we are looking forward to that party!
In this final episode of our young guns series for 2019, we interview Emma about her message that she gave at DR. On the day the recording failed, so a big thanks to Emma for doing it all again.
