In episode 295, Kestrel welcomes Rayouf Alhumedhi, the creator of the hijab emoji, to the show. Deeply passionate about bridging the creative space and tech, Rayouf founded the hijab emoji project to push for digital representation for Muslim women around the world. She was named one of Time's Most Influential Teens and Forbes 30 under 30; currently, Rayouf is a senior at Stanford majoring in Product Design. “I think there needs to be more thoughtful exploration of when is it good to make new product and when is it even better to rethink existing product? Like I mentioned in my table furniture building project, I noticed my team and I were getting excited about —what if we do this and we do that and we do that. But at the end of the day, all of that requires extra junk in the world. And yes, it's an enhancement and yes, it's an add-on, but it's not necessary at all. So, I wish more design students or more product design students had that framework instilled in their minds as an educational toolkit.” -Rayouf One point that comes up often in the sustainability and fashion dialogue is the way that our intentions are not aligning with our actions. There's this sort of dissonance between what we say vs what we do. As a report by Zalando from 2021 showed, we often say we believe in shopping more mindfully, but often don't actually follow through when it comes to acting upon those ideas. For example – While 60% of survey respondents said transparency is important to them, only 20% actively seek out information as part of the purchasing process. Or while 60% of consumers say repair, second-hand and sustainable disposal are important to them, but only 23% repair their clothes and 25% regularly buy second-hand. While data can be skewed or interpreted in one way or another, the important sentiment that I take from this sort of information is that changing behavior is CHALLENGING, and it doesn't happen with the flick of a switch. This is something that this week's guest and I riff on throughout this episode – questioning the reasons why, trying to understand what's leading to this disconnect, specifically analyzing how Gen Z fits into these behaviors, and ideating on what could potentially help propel more positive behavioral change moving forward. But again – it's not all on the individual. It's also about corporations and regulation and DESIGN – something that this week's guest is very passionate about. As she says, it's important to design for the extremes, to ensure products are created with more accessibility and equity from the get-go. Sidebar – this week's guest is pretty legendary – she's also the creator of the hijab emoji – which she developed 6 or so years ago, at the age of 16. Quotes & links from the conversation: Oddli, brand Rayouf mentions “If being a part of your sustainable company or your sustainability vision is already an added value, buying something feels less of a burden. And if I know my friend is also buying it, naturally, I'm going to be pulled to it.” (21:46) -Rayouf “Teen behind new hijab emoji: ‘I just wanted an emoji of me'”, article in CNN about Rayouf's work on hijab emoji Panel Discussion With Computer History Museum featuring Rayouf Dr. Marten's Zine that Rayouf contributed to Rayouf's Website > Follow Rayouf on Instagram >

On today's show, we'll hear Andrew's inspiring story and learn how he has achieved such remarkable success in the mobile home park and self-storage investment sectors. In 2015, Andrew Keel stumbled upon mobile home parks and was immediately drawn to this asset class because of the potential for higher-than-average returns and lower-than-average risk. Today, as the CEO of Keel Team LLC, he owns and manages more than 30 mobile home parks spread across 10 states. Andrew is constantly on the lookout for new opportunities to expand his business and invites anyone interested in selling or assigning a mobile home park to contact his team for a free value analysis. What if you could pave a way for beautiful moments of collaboration to happen where you can perform your best BECAUSE you are in tune with others and the moment, adapting to what is best for the group (and the audience)? I think everything is based on the individual.” Key Takeaways: “For me, music at its highest level is when musicians are really listening to each other and making the music happen.” – Terreon Gully “We have a limited vocabulary when it comes to language, but if you're listening and using more than just the language you have in communicating, you have an unlimited amount of things you can say and do.” – Terreon Gully “Really take the time and really listen to the music. Listening to the music is totally different from checking out the music.” – Terreon Gully “Pay attention to what's being said in order to hear what's not being said.” – Terreon Gully “People miss out on a lot because they have expectations, so they're not able to appreciate what is. I think it's important, whether it's a concert, whether it's a movie, whether it's food, just see what it is and then go from there versus having expectations.” – Terreon Gully Connect with Terreon Gully: Website: https://terreongully.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/terreongully / Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/terreontankgully/ Connect with Raquel Ark: www.listeningalchemy.com Mobile: + 491732340722 contact@listeningalchemy.com LinkedIn Podcast email: listeningsuperpower@gmail.com

3-time major championship winner, Jan Stephenson, reflects back on her early years on the LPGA Tour and recounts several of her 27 professional wins including her first at the 1973 Wills Australian Ladies Open. Jan describes how her life changed when, in 1977, Sport Magazine used a photo of a bra-less Stephenson, not intended for publication, on the cover of their magazine. She relates how, in the crazed aftermath of that photo, LPGA Commissioner Ray Volpe recognized an opportunity to change the tour's image to attract more fans and sponsors. And so, Jan Stephenson became the face of the LPGA Tour and a reluctant sex symbol. She worked tirelessly, often giving of her time freely, to promote the Tour for the benefit of everybody. Despite the distractions, she was able to amass a marvelous record in golf, "FORE the Good of the Game."Follow our show and/or leave a review/rating on: Our Website https://www.forethegoodofthegame.com/reviews/new/ Apple Podcasts https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fore-the-good-of-the-game/id1562581853 Spotify Podcasts https://open.spotify.com/show/0XSuVGjwQg6bm78COkIhZO?si=b4c9d47ea8b24b2d Google Podcasts https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5idXp6c3Byb3V0LmNvbS8xNzM3Mjc1LnJzcw About "FORE the Good of the Game” is a golf podcast featuring interviews with World Golf Hall of Fame members, winners of major championships and other people of influence in and around the game of golf. World Golf Hall of Fame member Jan Stephenson recalls her formative years growing up in Australia as a multi-sport athlete with an early passion for surfing before turning to golf and winning everything as a junior player. Listen in as she remembers her first failed attempt at qualifying for the LPGA Tour and returning home with no money to jobs as a barmaid, public relations professional and model before returning to the U.S. to earn her card. She was, by her own admission, a free spirit, agitating the Australian Amateur Golf powers-that-be who were determined to not let this wunderkind get the best of them. “To change it for the long run you have to really invest in people much, much earlier,” says Kristin. “It doesn't necessarily mean that if you're [studying to be] an accountant, you have to go to one of the big four. You can go to an insurance company.”Following in her mother's footsteps, Kristin shares her HR career journey from NYC-based hedge fund to private equity before joining Transverse Insurance Group in 2022. A common theme running throughout her career has been a passion for engaging with and attracting younger people from a diversity of lifestyles and backgrounds. Kristin highlights how Transverse have built as effective internship program to attract younger people to insurance, allowing them to see the breadth of opportunity in the industry. “You have to be a presence out and about. You have to be making them aware of what you do and how they could benefit from an internship. It gives them baseline experience”She emphasizes how a diversity of interviewers equates to a wider variety of candidates. “If a candidate sees somebody that looks like them, they're more much more likely to continue that process.”Kristin discusses passion, the need for flexibility and being part of a smaller, more nimble organization. “There's times I get pulled into things that are not necessarily HR-related. It helps me understand the business and helps the firm grow.”Connect with Kristin Cubberly on LinkedIn or find out more about Transverse Insurance Group The Insurance Coffee House Podcast is hosted by Nick Hoadley, CEO, Insurance Search, the Executive Search Consultancy for growing Insurance and Insurtech businesses around the globe. To discuss identifying & attracting the very best talent to your team or being a podcast guest, reach out to Nick via nick.hoadley@insurance-search.com Copyright Insurance Search 2023 – All Rights Reserved.

Doctors play a crucial role in safeguarding the health and well-being of their patients. However, it is also essential for doctors to guard their practice since medical practices are complex businesses and managing finances can be challenging. Consequently, protecting your practice from fraud, theft, or other financial crimes is essential to ensure you can continue providing quality care to your patients. Additionally, clinicians need to guard their practice by protecting their contracts. Medical practice contracts include employment agreements, partnership agreements, and other legal arrangements. These contracts determine the terms and conditions of the practice's operations, financial responsibilities, and ownership. Thus, it is advantageous for healthcare professionals to seek help from lawyers committed to giving them the resources they need to protect the practice they've built from contracts and agreements before binding those to their lives for the next couple of years. Therefore, it is essential to preserve such agreements to avoid any disputes or conflicts, protect their rights, and maintain their practice's financial stability. Amanda B. Hill is a well-known and respected healthcare attorney in Austin, TX. With more than 20 years of experience practicing healthcare law and coaching and training doctors in patient satisfaction and leadership, Amanda is uniquely positioned to assist doctors with their most pressing and essential issues. Amanda built Guard My Practice because she saw a need – doctors want to feel safe and protected in their businesses but aren't 100% sure how to stay out of trouble. She's seen it all and helped others get through it. Her passion is becoming a partner and trusted confidant to medical groups and doctors to help them navigate through uncertainty and toward peace. In this special episode with Amanda Hill, we will learn about the passion of an empowered woman in advocating for healthcare professionals and vesting them education concerning contracts and how to protect themselves from the unexpected. Be inspired by the life and vision of Amanda, who made it her personal goal to provide medical practitioners security, protection, and confidence to know that their practice is operating in the best and safest way possible. Key Takeaways: "I like to make my clients look good, and that's my job is to be in the background, helping them out by reading their contract." – Amanda Hill "Many times, we don't want to feel like an idiot, so we stay quiet, and that's the worst thing we can do when we're dealing with contracts." – Amanda Hill "The most important thing on the contract is how to get out of it because we don't know what we don't know until it's too late." – Dr. Derrick Burgess "Every contract you sign, you have to be able to get out of because things change so much in your career." – Amanda Hill "You just can't buy into promises. You have to have contracts to protect you in a way out because so many things may change." – Amanda Hill "Think about the fact that in five years, your life might look a lot different now." – Amanda Hill "I don't like to see doctors feeling helpless." – Amanda Hill "I'm trying to back up a little bit and try to talk to doctors again about starting their practice, but do it in a way that can set them up for success." – Amanda Hill "I became passionate about preventing the problems instead of just being on the back end and cleaning up the messes. And so, I want to change the tide. I want doctors to start opening up their practices again and not be scared." – Amanda Hill "It's hard to be the expert that if people go to you, you have to be sure of yourself, and that's hard because they trust you and your guidance." – Amanda Hill "If you don't know how you're getting paid, then you're just blind, and they can pay you anything. And what I can't stand is vagueness." – Amanda Hill "You need to have the big-ticket items, which are usually termination clause compensation and non-compete, which are the things that bind you after you leave." – Amanda Hill "The more humor you put in the world, the more joy you put in it." – Amanda Hill "Entrepreneurship is about solving people's problems. So, the more problems you can solve, the more money you're going to make." – Dr. Derrick Burgess "Make a video about people's questions and concerns because that's the way that you can become the authority by using your voice and reproducing it so more people can hear it." – Amanda Hill "I want doctors to cut themselves some slack. I don't think people understand the day of the life of a doctor because when they come in, they want their full attention." – Amanda Hill "Doctors and lawyers are driven to the point of insanity. We want to be good at everything we do, and when a patient doesn't like us, it sets our whole day." – Amanda Hill "We are in a slap-happy complaining culture right now. I don't know why we're going through this little phase in our lifespan where Everybody complains about everything, and I think that consumers realize that for every ten great reviews, you're going to have a bad one." – Amanda Hill "Don't let one bad review worry you. Dr David Bell, a former staff governor at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Trust, discusses the fallout from the circumstances of his 2018 report, highly critical of the Tavistock Gender Development Service (GIDS), along with the criticisms by his colleagues from the Tavistock, that led to the growing public concern about GIDS, the Judicial Review, and the decision by NHS England, following the Cass Review, to close the service. Bell explores the complex terrain where the pro-medicalisation push within this demographic is at odds with the anti-pathology proponents, describing the paradox of a peculiar “double narrative” around gender dysphoria: those who claim they have a psychiatric disorder in order to covered by the NHS or by private insurance to be treated quickly and then the second group that claims they don't have an illness, so they don't need treatment. Bell also queries the politicisation of the treatments around gender dysphoria, stating, “Gender disorder…is a kind of ticket” where its adherents claim “that they know what the treatment is that they need.” Analysing the changes in the cultural context of gender dysphoria such as the co-morbidities associated with girls who identify as having “gender dysphoria” (eg. autism), Bell observes how current data on the decline of anorexia and bulemia cases suggests that girls who identify as transgender have much in common with the previous generations of anorexia and bulemia. Highlighting the complex and difficult relationship these girls have with their sexual body, Bell maps out the various ways these sorts of manifestations have changed according to cultural shifts: in Freud's day it was “hysteria” to anorexia and bulemia in the twentieth century to this century's manifestation of gender dysphoria. Noting how among young people in the UK presenting with gender dysphoria that 80% are girls, Bell ascribes this condition's undercurrent as stemming from neoliberalism and misogyny. One of the great things about college lacrosse is that there are always many important games every week of the season. Week in and week out it's consistently good. Always. But then Rivalry Week comes, and it's just better. The tradition and history in the series. The familiarity of the teams. The disdain, yet often mutual respect, between fanbases. The bragging rights to the victor. Then add in the fact that it comes late in the regular season, and the Rivalry Game means there are usually post-season implications at stake. The 2023 edition of Rivalry Week brings all this and more. Highlighting our Rivalry Week preview show is an interview with third-year Hopkins head coach, Peter Milliman. He'll be at the center of the storm this week as he guides his No. 7-ranked Blue Jays into College Park to face the No. 3-ranked Maryland Terrapins on Saturday night. Milliman sits down with the guys to talk about changes coming out of the disappointing 2022 season, the significant addition of two new staff members, navigating one of the nation's toughest schedules, the Blue Jays' team leaders, what has made the Jays so good in late-game situations, the role JHU plays in growing the sport, the incredible success of Hopkins Athletics as a whole, team motivation going into The Rivalry and much, much more. WEEKEND PREVIEWS This week's schedule is crazy. It's littered with Rivalry Week gems, big league battles for the top of the standings and highlighted by four Top 20 matchups. Enjoy the games. Beyond Citizenship: Literacy and Personhood in Everyday China, 1900-1945 (Brill, 2022) focuses on the role of literacy in building a modern nation-state by examining the government provision of adult literacy training in early twentieth-century China. Based on untapped archives and diaries, Di Luo uncovers people's strategic use of literacy and illiteracy in social interactions and explores the impact of daily experiences on the expansion of state power. Highlighting interpersonal and intergroup relations, Beyond Citizenship suggests a new methodology of studying literacy which foregrounds the agentive role of historical actors and so moves away from a more traditional approach that treats literacy itself as the key factor enabling social change.
