Do you have dreams? I know I do. When I was a kid, I used to dream of saving a life on a plane. Don't ask me why, but it's true. The closest I've come to that is handing out orange juice to a diabetic on a plane. What can I say? You take what you get. When it comes to dreams, does it surprise you that God has dreams for you? Like the loving Father that He is, God lovingly longs for you to know certain things and live a certain way. He has a future filled with hope for you. Do you believe that? What do you live for? As Christians, we say, "Jesus!" We may think so, or feel obligated to say it, but often our lives tell a different story. Things creep in and nudge Jesus aside. We drift into living for work, sports, family, money, good health, pleasure, comfort...for me. But Paul's testimony in Philippians 1:18-26 is a wake-up call. As believers, everything should be for and about Jesus.

This week, Pastor Phil shares his heart for Hope City and prays a powerful prayer over our church inspired by Paul's words in Philippians 1. He reminds us that God has already begun a good work in us, and He's not done yet. Even when we feel stuck, abandoned, afraid, or like failures, God continues His work until the day of Christ Jesus.Send us a text

Few things are as frustrating as adversity! Just when we are making progress, something hinders us. Worst of all, sometimes the affliction comes from those closest to us. But when Paul faces adversity - even from believers - he rejoices in the advance of the gospel! His focus on our mission keeps him from getting derailed by hardships.

Why is this happening to me? Ever asked that question? I have! Whether I'm stuck in traffic or on the line with a customer service rep, it seems like life affords me plenty of opportunities to ask why. And as annoying as some days in life can be, the reality is that other days are just plain hard. It's easy to wonder why. Why has God allowed me to go through this? If anyone could have asked why, it was the apostle Paul. Here was this guy who had given his life to Jesus, and given his soul to others, and found himself stuck in a prison cell. In today's lesson, we're going to see why it never even occurred to Paul to ask why. He was too busy living pointing to Jesus. He was too busy making each moment count for the Lord. I don't know about you, but that's the kind of untouchable joy that my heart longs for. This week Britton walks us through Philippians 1:12-30. We are given a simple formula as to what is worth living for and it is this. Living = ?, Dying = ?. We see that anything other than Christ is not worth searching for. Yet in Christ dying is gain because he is the source of all life. At Oaks, we live out in daily submission to Christ by sending disciplemakers of Jesus by being disciplemakers of Jesus.
This week Britton walks us through the first part of Philippians 1. We see that a mark of a disciple is true joy and that joy is only found in Christ alone. At Oaks, true joy is found as we do the Great Commission seeking to send disciplemakers of Jesus by being discplemakers of Jesus.

What do you want most in life? Ask yourself, "What do I pray for?" Our prayers reveal our strongest desires. Paul said, "To live is Christ." The most important thing was to live like Jesus, so that's how he prayed for the Philippian believers. The greatest desire believers ought to have is to glorify God by growing into the image of Christ, and it ought to be the way we pray for one another.
The Advance of the Gospel 12 I want you to know, brothers,[a] that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, 13 so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard[b] and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. 14 And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much […]

He is confident that the good work God started in them will continue until completion. Despite his chains, Paul rejoices because his situation is helping spread the gospel. Even though some preach Christ with wrong motives, he is glad that Christ is being proclaimed. He shares his personal struggle, wanting to depart and be with Christ, yet knowing it is more helpful to remain and encourage others. He declares that to live is Christ and to die is gain. Paul urges believers to live worthy of the gospel, to stand united in faith, and to remain courageous and unwavering, even when they suffer for following Jesus. We are encouraged to live with a Christ-centered purpose, no matter our circumstances. We are reminded that God is always at work, shaping us into who He has called us to be. Even in seasons of hardship or waiting, we can find joy knowing our struggles can advance His message. We are not alone. We are part of something bigger, united with others in faith. Our lives should reflect Christ in words and actions, showing boldness, love, and humility. When we face challenges, we can stand firm, knowing that suffering for our faith is not a setback but a sign of our commitment. Together, we press forward, trusting that God will finish what He started in us for His glory. Kind Father, thank You for beginning a good work in us and for the promise that You will complete it. Help us live lives that reflect Christ in every situation, whether in comfort or in struggle. Teach us to see challenges as opportunities to glorify You and encourage others in their faith. Fill us with boldness to stand firm in unity, striving together for the faith of the gospel, with a shared joy that our circumstances cannot shake. May our love grow in knowledge and discernment, so we can live pure and blameless lives, fearless through our confidence in You. Thought Questions: Why was Paul able to be joyful even in prison? What produces enduring joy in you through the great challenges and struggles of life? Paul's circumstances helped people hear the gospel. In what specific ways is God at work in your life to help people hear about Jesus? God's people are stronger together. How are you actively helping fellow believers stand firm in one spirit and strive together for the faith?
