Episode 5: Five Secrets to An Attractive Marriage

From the outside looking in, what makes a marriage attractive? What are some ways we can shape our marriage into a godly marriage that makes following Jesus attractive to other people? In this episode, join me + my husband Matthew as we uncover 5 rarely talked about secrets to an attractive marriage that can be the difference between an okay relationship and an admirable one.SCRIPTURE:Ephesians 5:21-33 (NLT)21 And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word. 27 He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. 28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church. 30 And we are members of his body.31 As the Scriptures say, “A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.” 32 This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one. 33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

How do we help others who are hurting when we are experiencing our own set of hurts and challenges? How do we empathize + encourage? In this episode, we will look at two examples of how Jesus helped hurting people in their moments of greatest need and learn from how He did it.SCRIPTURES:LUKE 7:11-15 (ESV)11 Soon afterward[a] he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. 12 As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. 13 And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus[b] gave him to his mother. MATTHEW 5:3-5 (MSG)3 “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.4 “You’re blessed when you feel you’ve lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.5 “You’re blessed when you’re content with just who you are—no more, no less. That’s the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can’t be bought.

Abundance has a lot of definitions in the English language, but what does God say it is? Like, we know we all want the abundant life that Jesus' offers, but what exactly does that mean? What kind of life is that? Is abundance something we can attain, lose, miss, mess up? Where does it come from and how do we get it? All good questions-- and in this episode, we are going to look to God's Word to help us define it. This is the perfect place to start!
