In today's episode, we are joined by my naturopathic oncologist, Dr. Laura James. As you listen to our discussion, it's essential to acknowledge the whirlwind that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. For many, including myself, the speed at which treatment unfolds can be both a blessing and a challenge. The urgency of medical intervention, coupled with the support of excellent health insurance and the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 era, can lead to a swift entry into what is commonly referred to as the breast cancer industrial complex. But what exactly does this term mean? It's a new concept that encompasses medical advancements, institutional processes, and societal expectations surrounding cancer treatment. While grateful for the prompt attention and care received, there's an underlying need to address the implications of this fast-paced medical industry. For me, and perhaps for many others, navigating the breast cancer industrial complex has raised questions about agency, reflection, and informed decision-making. The speed at which decisions are made can sometimes overshadow the opportunity for thorough consideration, prayer, and seeking second opinions—elements crucial to holistic well-being. Together with Dr. James, we'll explore the importance of empowerment in the face of medical urgency, the role of advocacy in navigating treatment pathways, and the significance of holistic approaches to cancer care. ______ Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it! I first heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman, and even though it was a bit of a splurge compared to what I usually spend, I'm so glad I invested. Now that I have a better understanding of the processing of the fish before it hits my plate, it makes me wonder about quality. I called a friend who works at ButcherBox and asked her about the process with their salmon. She assured me that BB only freezes the fish ONCE! Which helps preserve the nutrients and taste. The big one for me is texture. When I eat fish, I want a firm texture, not rubbery! After getting over my shock (yes, fooled again by the food corporations) I asked my BB friend if I could pretty-please offer free salmon to my community. She said yes, so if you use the code 'enos', you can get free salmon (2 pounds) free for a year and $20 off of your first box. https://www.butcherbox.com/enos   This podcast is for informational purposes only and none of the information should be construed as medical advice. What's Good Dimah Fam! So, picture this: you're juggling work, maybe squeezing in a bit of exercise, and then diving straight into your hobbies. It's like you're on this never-ending treadmill, right? But here's a thought – ever considered the magic of just pressing pause? Not the kind of pause where you plop down and binge-watch shows all day (though, no judgment here, we've all been there). I'm talking about something... different. Something that genuinely lights you up inside and gives you that breath of fresh air, away from the usual hustle. Think about it. When was the last time you did something just for the sheer joy of it? Not because you had to, but because it made your soul do a little happy dance? It's easy to forget that our brains aren't designed to be on 24/7. They need that downtime, that moment to reboot, to wander through the fields of imagination and curiosity without a care in the world. It's in these moments, these delightful little pauses, that we find a part of ourselves we've been too busy to notice. And here's the kicker – when you allow yourself this space, this freedom to just be, you're not just taking a break. You're feeding your soul, nurturing your inner child, and guess what? You come back to your daily grind with this newfound energy, this lightness that makes all those tasks, even the hobbies that were starting to feel a bit like obligations, feel fresh and exciting again. So, I say, let's make a pact. Let's promise to give ourselves the gift of time – time to explore, to rest, to simply exist without a to-do list. Who knows what wonders lie in those quiet moments of soul-feeding joy? Trust me, your mind, your body, and your spirit will thank you for it. Let's not wait for a sign or the perfect moment. The time is now, to rediscover the joy in the little things, to reconnect with ourselves and the world around us in the most genuine, fulfilling way possible. Thanks for listening!

Jenny Tough is a woman who hardly needs an introduction. A quick Google search will pull up a laundry list of accomplishments in the outdoors — from winning the Silk Road Mountain Race (twice!), to running across a mountain range on six continents, to publishing two books. While each of these accomplishments is exceptional in its own right, Jenny remains humble, honest and dedicated to making space for other women in the outdoors. Our conversation is wide reaching; from her first bike trip to the Yukon where she carried handwritten notes to help her fix mechanicals, to becoming one of the most prolific women in bikepack racing, to putting her career on pause for two years to heal her eating disorder. While we do spend some time on serious topics, we had so much fun in this conversation and are grateful for Jenny's humour and sharing so candidly. Pressing Pause Pro 19:2 #RTTBROS  #Nightlight  H.A.L.T.: Pressing Pause Before Pushing Forward  (Proverbs 19:2) "He that hasteth with his feet sinneth: but he that deliberates is wise." Life's decisions, big and small, demand our attention and discernment. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, we often rush into choices without considering the impact of our emotional state. The wise words of Proverbs 19:2 serve as a timely reminder: "He that hasteth with his feet sinneth: but he that deliberates is wise." So, before hitting "confirm," let's consider the "HALT" principle: H is for Hungry: Remember Esau, who bartered his birthright for a mere bowl of stew? Hunger clouds judgment, tempting us to prioritize immediate satisfaction over long-term consequences. When faced with crucial choices, ensure your physical needs are met. A clear head makes for wiser decisions. A is for Angry: Moses, the revered leader, struck the rock in anger, denying him entry into the promised land. Anger distorts our perspective, fueling impulsive reactions and rash choices. Before making important decisions, take a deep breath, count to ten, or seek a calming activity. A clear heart leads to clearer choices. L is for Lonely: Loneliness can be a deafening echo chamber, leading to desperate choices just to fill the void. Remember people you know who married  hastily due to loneliness, only to suffer the consequences later. Prioritize genuine connections and healthy relationships before seeking solace in rushed decisions. If you become unequally yoked with an unbeliever it will cost you in the long run. A clear soul seeks connection, not escape. T is for Tired: Elijah, the prophet, exhausted and despondent, fled from Jezebel. Fatigue clouds judgment and hinders our ability to think clearly. When faced with important decisions, ensure you are well-rested. A clear mind makes for sound choices. Taking a moment to "HALT" before pressing forward can make all the difference. By recognizing our emotional state and addressing underlying needs, we approach decisions with clarity, wisdom, and a greater chance of making choices that align with our true values and long-term goals. Remember, a well-timed pause can lead to a well-chosen path. As Winter rolls around, life usually slows down too: more time indoors, less time at work, and more time to ourselves. For our final episode of 2023, Mory and Melissa talk about how the season is a chance to spend more time looking inward. The intensity of our internal emotions makes it easy - necessary even - to distract ourselves with the external world. It can be nearly impossible to reflect inward when we feel like we're always on the clock, as though every moment has to be productive in order to be good. Whether we like it or not, this repression is unsustainable. Mother Nature offers an opportunity to reflect, realign, and listen to our inner wisdoms as the business of life finally slows down in the winter months. Tune in to hear more about how you can take a pause without making it productive, why community is left out of the conversation, and what we've got planned for 2024! In today's fast-paced world, “pause, rest, be” are three simple words that many of us (especially parents!) often overlook. Society doesn't give us any accolades for taking time out to rest, but as people's schedules get busier, our presence and connectedness as humans gets weaker.   Joining me today to normalize and demystify the practice of rest, is Octavia Raheem, an award-winning author, rest coach, and restorative yoga teacher. Octavia invites us into practices that enhance presence, groundedness, and a better sense of wellbeing– all of the things that we need and desire, yet are not reflected in our day-to-day living and calendar. We also explore how we can instill this practice into our children, without feeling like we're limiting their opportunities.    References:   Connect with Octavia:   Visit her website Follow her on Instagram Connect with Octavia on LinkedIn   Learn more about Devoted to Rest™, a transformational rest focused experience for visionary women leaders making a high impact in their fields   Octavia's books:   “Gather” “Pause, Rest, Be”   You can follow Brandi and her work @deardouapodcast on IG, @brandi_jordan_official IG, and send questions, comments and platitudes to brandi@deardoulapodcast.com. “Pausing and intention are key to self-fulfillment.” - Kim Newton  Did you know 36% of women aren't following their dreams? Kim Newton was one of them several years ago, and it took some monumental people (and moments) to help her realize there was so much more to life. In today's episode, Dr. Michelle Robin invites Kim to unfold what was going on inside her heart when she began to sense a change was needed. Her story is both inspiring and action-oriented, meaning it wasn't the inspiration that took her forward but the people around her that made her take steps toward a life full of happiness, abundance, and fulfillment. The decision to “disrupt her life” and take time to pause was exactly what she needed to quiet her head talk, and tune into her heart. Kim will help you think about what your truest “joy” is inside your own heart. She will ask some emotionally-charged questions for you to reflect on, but also share how her passion was something that had actually been part of her for a majority of life already – but it took some rekindling to find it. This episode is sure to linger in your heart long after it's over.  About Today's Guest:  Kim Newton is passionate about leadership and innovation.
