We all have very strong moral convictions about what we think is right and wrong. And in a pluralistic society, we need to find ways of sharing our beliefs and being honest about who we are in a way that's respectful and promotes peace. One of the ways we can make for a more civil conversation is to ask a more fundamental question: Where do you get your moral convictions? How do you determine what is right and wrong? There's almost no place I know that has a more interesting answer to this question than Romans 2. It tells us three things: 1) no one can succeed in being a relativist, 2) no one can really succeed in being a moralist, and therefore, 3) this is our only hope. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on October 27, 2013. Series: A Public Faith. Scripture: Romans 2:12-29. If we're going to have a truly open society, we have to learn how to be public about our deepest faith beliefs, and yet to do so in a way that's respectful to others and promotes peace. So how do you talk about God and God's existence? One way to talk about this with more reflection is not to ask, “Does God exist?” but to ask, “How do you know whether God exists?” I don't think there's any more brilliant answer to the question, “How can we know whether God exists?” than in Romans 1. Paul actually gives four answers, all at once. He says, 1) we can know God, 2) we do know God, 3) we don't know God, and 4) we can truly know God. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on October 20, 2013. Series: A Public Faith. Scripture: Romans 1:16-21. Do you still carry guilt for things God has already forgiven? You're not alone. So many Christians live burdened by past sins—even after repenting and surrendering their lives to Christ. But Romans 8 opens with a life-changing promise: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” In Part 1 of our new series, Living the Good Life, we explore what it really means to live in the freedom of God's forgiveness. Through the powerful story of Neil Johnson—a man granted a pardon he never thought he deserved—we'll confront the doubts, emotions, and misconceptions that keep us from fully receiving God's grace. Scripture: Romans 8:1–11 Big Idea: Embracing God's forgiveness is essential to a flourishing Christian life. You'll discover: -Why many believers still feel condemned—even when they're forgiven -How false beliefs about God distort our ability to live free -The difference between guilt and repentance -What it means to truly surrender and walk by the Spirit Whether you struggle with guilt, shame, or just need a fresh reminder of God's grace—this message will speak to your heart. This week, we will be going over Romans 4:1-12, to better understand what Paul is saying in his thorough presentation of God's gospel in Christ Jesus. Paul describes Abraham's righteousness as not stemming from the works of the law (as the law hadn't been given to Israel at that point), but through belief in God (obedience, love, faith and trust). This would have been unfamiliar to many of the Jewish believers at the time, since the teachers of the law pressed onto perfection in the law and the acquisition of God's righteousness through that way. However, God's standard stressed perfect obedience, which was not possible, and God knew that, so it is through faith in His Son, who took our penalty and became our sin, that we might become God's righteousness in Him (through faith in Jesus Christ) and this was for all who accepted Christ, not only the circumcised, but also those who have not been, since they share the same circumcision in their hearts (the same seal of faith in Christ Jesus).Scripture:Romans 4:1-12Resources:FaceBook- FCC Young AdultsInstagram- @fccyaEmail- fccyadmin@fccsantamaria.orgWebsite- fccsantamaria.org

I hope you find it interesting.Study Notes: "Superstition and Fear - Faith and Hope"Episode Overview:Key Topics:Definition and characteristics of superstition. The biblical definition of faith. The influence of superstition on modern life.Enlightenment perspectives on superstition and faith.Practical steps to cultivate biblical faith.Distinguishing Superstition from Faith:Superstition is an attempt to control uncertain circumstances through human means rather than trusting in God's sovereign will.Faith involves a relationship with God characterized by trust, obedience, and reliance on His wisdom and timing (Proverbs 3:5-6).Practical Steps to Cultivate Biblical Faith:Immerse Yourself in Scripture:Romans 10:17: "Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."Regularly read and meditate on the Bible.Pray Continually:Philippians 4:6-7: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."Use prayer to express trust in God and seek His guidance.Fellowship with Believers:Hebrews 10:24-25: "Consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together."Be part of a community for support and encouragement.Obey God's Commands:James 2:17: "Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."Demonstrate faith through obedience and practical action. Conclusion:Understanding the difference between superstition and faith is essential for a vibrant and biblically grounded Christian life. Superstition seeks control through human means, while faith places trust in God's sovereignty. Cultivating a biblical faith involves immersing in Scripture, prayer, fellowship, and obedience to God's commands.Thank you for listening to this bonus episode. SCRIPTURE- Romans 12:2"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.”REFLECTION- Fr. CarlMUSIC-
The age-old adage, that there's a sucker born every minute, in reality describes every one of us in our spiritual lives. We so often fail to realize how we're being schemed against, how we're being influenced, and ultimately how we conform to the patterns of this world. We're ignorant to the implicit costs and systems that keep us from flourishing in our spiritual lives - and what we can't see, we can't break through. But once we wake up and begin to shamelessly resist the influences and habits in our lives that hold us back or lead us astray, we grow in spiritual maturity and experience the freedom of becoming more like Jesus and living in the full glory of who God created us to be. Scripture: Romans 12:1-3 A Living Sacrifice 12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Humble Service in the Body of Christ3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

Isn't it incredible to think that before you and I were born, God already had a plan and a purpose for our lives? One of the ways God prepared us in advance is that He has given us spiritual gifts.Main Points:1. The Bible has a lot to say about spiritual gifts. There are at least 20 of them listed in the Bible. We don't have time to define them all today, but you can read about them in these passages of Scripture: Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4. Generally speaking, there are two categories: speaking gifts and serving gifts. 2. God would not have given you a spiritual gift unless He intended for you to use it. What a blessing it is to have received a gift from God!3. When we discover our gifts, use our gifts, and value the gifts of others, and when we connect with each other with one mind and mission, which is to glorify God and build His Kingdom, we fulfilling our life's purpose.Today's Scripture Verses:Ephesians 2:10 - “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”Romans 12:6 - “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.”1 Peter 4:10 - “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received…”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group
Mankind, in totality, due to Adam's transgression against the commandment of God, has thrust all of creation into a state of sin and misery. Even as Christians, we can overlook how serious and grave this condition is. In this discussion our hope is that we will bring honor to Christ, considering the profound lengths the Lord had to go, to redeem his people.
