Willard was awarded the Legion of Merit, the navy’s highest honor for his bravery under fire, but his greatest award was from the Lord Jesus Christ for the numerous Marines he led to Christ during the war. In the final episode on the life of Z.N. Morrell we discuss the growth of the Baptist in Texas in spite of the many dangers. Also we tell the incredible story of the conversion and baptism of Gen. Sam Houston.
In this episode Pastor Morrell has to deal with rowdy drunken cowboys disturbing the church services, as well as the constant and continued danger of Indian attack ,but he reaps the first fruits of a great harvest when he leads his first soul to Christ in Texas!
In part #2 Pastor Z. N. Morrell and his family move to Texas just as the Mexican army attacks the Alamo. They are forced to face the many dangers of the pioneer life, as well as the danger of Mexican invasion and Indian depredations. All while preaching and starting churches on the frontier of Texas.
This week we begin the story of Z. N. Morrell who was one of the first Baptist preachers in Texas. Z. N. first arrived in Texas in 1835 while Texas was still part of Mexico and before the famous battle of the Alamo. In part one we discuss some of the reasons Z.N. decided to move to Texas as well as his poor health and his first trip to Texas. Michael Sattler was a Catholic monk who got saved and became an AnaBaptist preacher. Not much is known of his life since the story is mostly told by his persecutors, but what is known is the fascinating tale of the Bible believing Baptists of the 1500’s.
