In this episode, I interview Adam Huber from Clarity Coat. Adam has successfully built and sold an auto detailing business and is now co-owner of Clarity Coat. In this episode Adam teaches us how: The Key to Marketing is becoming an expert in your industry. A simple hack to know what your customers care about is to join Facebook Groups to see what people are asking and start making content around that. When times are slow, double down on marketing. The market is always cyclical. If you can lean into marketing during the slow times, your dollar will go farther because others are pulling back and when the lights turn back on and business comes back up, you just stole a lot of the market share. Adam used a martial arts method of training his employees. He would train the first employee and then have that employee train the next one and so on.It helped his employees learn better because they had to do the teaching You can't tell a decision is great until you've made it and look back on it. Any good decision has the opportunity to be good, it's just a matter of you making the decision a great one by going all in. The Number One thing local businesses need to do is get better at Marketing. Getting out in front of the community. The average consumer needs to see who's behind the business. After spending 13 years in the Theater business Jason has built a successful Cleaning Company. He has has a knack for building a great team and keeping them motivated. Here is a snapshot of our conversation: Interviewing tips include: Look for those applicants that were in more activities in school than just good grades. Look for people who were in activities as they are familiar with a hard work ethic and self-discipline. He also gave an example of a question that he often uses in an interview: “Have you ever been in a situation where you do more or superior to your colleagues?” He says that an answer, yes or no, isn't necessarily bad, but it's the supporting reason they give can tell you a lot about the person. Build a culture of Trust, but Verify. This gives your employees enough rope to make decisions on their own, but it also sets the expectation that they will be held accountable. Dealing with employee mistakes. First Question the process, not the person. Ask them how we can make this better in the future and be collaborative about it. Put the ball in their court to own the change. If you loved this episode, please subscribe and share it with someone who needs to hear this message. I appreciate you and any feedback you can give me.
