About the Guest: Suzanne Stabile is an esteemed Enneagram teacher and author, widely recognized as an Enneagram master teacher and known as the Enneagram Godmother. With over 35 years of experience studying the Enneagram, Suzanne has authored several influential books including "The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery," "The Path Between Us: An Enneagram Journey to Healthy Relationships," and "Journey Toward Wholeness." She is also the host of the acclaimed podcast, "The Enneagram Journey." Suzanne's work focuses on helping individuals discover personal growth and improve their relationships through a profound understanding of the Enneagram. Episode Summary: In this enlightening episode of Life After Kids, Drs. Brooke and Lynne sit down with Enneagram master teacher Suzanne Stabile to explore the intricate world of the Enneagram and its profound impact on midlife women and mothers dealing with the empty nest transition. A specialist in personality typology, Suzanne offers her vast wisdom and experience to help the audience understand their behavioral motivations, offering insights into each Enneagram type and how they shape a woman's journey into midlife. The rich discussion encompasses how understanding one's own Enneagram type can foster better self-awareness, deepen familial relationships, and guide mothers into a purposeful, fulfilling second chapter of life. Throughout the conversation, Suzanne delves into the distinct motivations and challenges faced by each Enneagram type, especially in the context of motherhood and self-discovery. Drawing on her extensive research, she details practical ways to identify and work with emotional defaults such as shame, fear, and anger. Suzanne expertly illustrates how these core emotions influence behavior and how tapping into Enneagram wisdom can transform self-awareness into a tool for growth, allowing women to embrace new roles and find relevance beyond parenting. The episode concludes with Suzanne sharing personal anecdotes and practical advice for women aiming to build stronger connections with themselves and their adult children. Key Takeaways: The Enneagram determines personality by motivation, not behavior, and understanding this can help women navigate midlife transitions and parenting adult children. Recognizing your dominant Enneagram number can enhance both personal growth and parenting strategies, allowing a nuanced understanding of family dynamics. Connecting with women from different generations extends perspective and wisdom, equipping mothers to better handle transitions in their lives and relationships. Embracing the idea of life phases as a 'second third' instead of a beginning of the end can reframe a midlife transition positively and hopefully. The Enneagram provides a framework to address the default emotions of shame, fear, and anger, supporting emotional balance and healthier relationships. The key to manifesting our desires lies in understanding their true purpose: the universe places desires in our hearts to lead us back to our higher selves. Every desire is an invitation to shed our old identity and become the version of ourselves capable of bringing that desire into reality.• Our desires are not about what we want to have, but who we need to become• The Wright brothers weren't pilots but bike smiths who defied convention• You cannot desire something you don't have the capability of bringing into reality• Write down your desires immediately so your logical mind doesn't talk you out of them• Like a snake shedding its skin, we go through blind periods during transformation• Don't try to figure out "how" at the beginning of your manifestation journey• The universe gives you desires as breadcrumbs leading you back to your higher self• Your desires help you shed layers of scarcity, fear, and limitation• Internal state is what matters - create the frequency first, then the physical reality follows• Dream big because the bigger your dream, the more of yourself you'll remember• Going through challenging experiences helps reveal parts of yourself you didn't know existedRemember: keep going, keep moving forward. “A lot of people when they go out and do things [after an injury] have this vengeance. It's always like, ‘I'm doing it for the people who counted me out,' or ‘I'm doing it for revenge.' The best way to stop focusing and ruminating about narcissists in your life is to close your eyes and fall in love with the self. Ancient Persian Philosopher Rumi is an excellent example of how to break up with, let go of, divorce, and go no contact with narcissists in your life. In this lesson, you will learn what Rumi has to say about releasing narcissists from your life, and why doing so is terrifying yet brings emotional freedom at the same time. Healing from narcissistic abuse, requires that you release resistance to the pain manipulation, gaslighting, triangulation, smear campaigns and discard have created. Through radical self awareness, and acceptance, we discover the power of sacred wisdom as it pertains to choosing nonresistance. A narcissist will never follow you into solitude. When you embrace solitude, narcissists will run away because in solitude their masks fall. And that's why you must travel into the silence within. Codependency is akin to spiritual death. It implies you are living in denial of what is, and running from reality. The answer lies in climbing the ladder of the mind, from the subconscious to the higher conscious realms. But first, we must figure out where you are now and at what level of awareness do you reside. Feel free to take my FREE Codependency Quiz to discover more. ✨ Take my FREE Codependency Quiz

Are you in a relationship with a narcissist and do you feel like you need to walk on eggshells to keep them calm? Do you feel easily controlled due to your caretaking nature? Can you identify codependent traits in you, such as low self worth, negative self talk, feeling shame-based, and needing the approval of others to feel like you are okay, and not going crazy? If you are codependent, most often you do not know it. Seeking approval, and worrying more about what others think about you than what you think about you has become a way of life. In childhood, your behavior was tied to your self worth and not your innate worthiness, so today, you subconsciously seek out similar dynamics in which you repeat your childhood patterns of needing others to give you permission to feel worthy. The codependent narcissist relationships is similar to two magnets being drawn to one another. One needs and attention and the other feels compelled to abandon their own needs just to pour out their attention onto others in exchange for a sense of self. The codependent is completely governed by faulty childhood programming and can die in this self abandoning paradigm and never awaken. This happens all the time and is why many people on their death beds most regret NOT acting on behalf of the self during their lifetimes rather than worrying about what other people thought about them. In this episode, Lisa A. Romano Breakthrough Life Coach and #1 bestselling author of The Road Back to Me (2012) and creator of the Codependency Recovery Accelerator, The 12 Week Breakthrough Roadmap, helps you to understand codependency as a mindset or paradigm that traps you within its walls all outside of your limited conscious awareness. Her passion for helping adult children from toxic homes, such as those born to alcoholics, narcissists, or the emotionally immature, is rooted in her desire to help others transform their inner wounds into inner strengths. Romano was awarded the title of the #1 Most Influential Person of 2020 due to her deep, uncanny, understanding of codependency and the negative adverse childhood experiences responsible for this life lived from the perception of a lost self. She is ready to help you find your true self, and equip you with the mindset training required to breakthrough the veil of illusions that have kept you trapped in codependent narcissistic paradigms. Title: Fixing the Broken Pieces with Ian Morgan Cron Description: Everyone is an addict. Mr. Rogers…The Dali Lama… Michelle Obama! Mull that idea over for a minute and when you're done being outraged like we were, join us for this enthralling conversation with one of our favorite repeat guests on For the Love – author, psychotherapist, and Episcopal priest, Ian Morgan Cron. Today, we're talking to him about his new book, The Fix: How the Twelve Steps Offer a Surprising Path of Transformation for the Well-Adjusted, the Down-and-Out, and Everyone In Between. People pleasing, the need to be right, being a compulsive helper, workaholism, being a knowledge junkie, perfectionism, holding on to our past suffering – these are all forms of addiction. The simple truth is, we each resort to our own methods of dealing with the harder aspects of life. For some, that solution means turning to a substance to numb our pain, which is how we traditionally think of addiction. For others, there are behaviors we employ to manipulate what we are feeling. And that's where the rest of us fall into the sticky trap. Ian, who also hosts the wildly popular Typology podcast exploring the mystery of the human personality, teaches us how the Twelve Steps are a trusted tool for anyone seeking to move beyond self-help to a more profound sense of awakening. And, in a new segment called “To My Younger Self”, Jen and Amy share some deeply personal experiences that, for Amy, helped change her relationships and, for Jen, helped change how she viewed herself. Thought-provoking Quotes: “People don't have one addiction; people are poly-addicted. They're seething cauldrons of addiction.” – Ian Morgan Cron “All human beings have a natural and innate hunger for union with the divine. The problem is when we go in search of counterfeit experiences of the divine that lead to disappointment, disillusionment and disaster.” – Ian Morgan Cron “Most Twelve Steps meetings happen in church or synagogue basements, after hours. And I wondered, does anyone upstairs know about the miracles that are going on downstairs? And why can't we release what's happening down here so that people up there can take advantage of it?” – Ian Morgan Cron “When you can admit powerlessness, it's a relief that it's not on you anymore.” – Ian Morgan Cron “When you frame an addiction as a solution to a problem, albeit an inadequate one, what follows is compassion, not judgment or condemnation.” – Ian Morgan Cron Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Five Calls app – https://5calls.org/ I Poop on Fascists Sticker - https://bit.ly/4gWiFHx The Fix: How the Twelve Steps Offer a Surprising Path of Transformation for the Well-Adjusted, the Down-and-Out, and Everyone In Between by Ian Morgan Cron - https://amzn.to/3Xgx6PK The Fix Workbook: How the Twelve Steps Offer a Surprising Path of Transformation for the Well-Adjusted, the Down-and-Out, and Everyone in Between by Ian Morgan Cron - https://amzn.to/3DiTReV How to Mitigate Stress Based on Your Personality – FREE DOWNLOAD - https://typologyinstitute.com/stress The Typology Institute Enneagram Assessment by Ian Morgan Cron - https://typologyinstitute.com/assessment Typology Podcast - https://www.typologypodcast.com/ The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery by Ian Morgan Cron - https://amzn.to/3QCG1qI Guest's Links: Ian's website - https://ianmorgancron.com/ Ian's Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/ianmorgancron Ian's Twitter - https://x.com/ianmorgancron Ian's Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/IanMorganCron/ Ian's Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/@imcron Ian's Podcast - https://www.typologypodcast.com/ Connect with Jen! This week, we’re joined by Ian Morgan Cron, who shares his deeply personal journey with the Enneagram, addiction, and faith. Ian recounts how a chance encounter with a book on the Enneagram during a retreat sparked a life-changing path of self-awareness, ultimately inspiring his book, The Road Back to You. Through his story, Ian challenges us to see addiction not simply as a problem to be solved, but as an opportunity to draw closer to God and experience true healing, which he shares about in his latest book, The Fix. Later in the episode, we’ll hear from Alicia Michelle, a certified neurocoach, podcaster, and author. Alicia shares how a health crisis led her to reevaluate her life and seek healing through the integration of neuroscience and biblical truth. Now, she helps others break free from limiting patterns, renewing their minds, and building emotional resilience. I see them principally as a spiritual problem, but they are not exclusively a spiritual problem.” - Ian Morgan Cron “It's when you hit bottom that you finally become available to the wooing of God. The spiritual life is so loaded with paradoxes that it's frustrating at times. But here is one—powerlessness actually is a superpower, because the moment that you declare your own powerlessness, like Paul, you finally say, ‘I can't stop doing the things I don't want to do, and the things I do want to do, I can't start doing.’” - Ian Morgan Cron “I sometimes see addictions as invitations from God. Are you ready to come back to the Source, to the Fountain? And are you also willing to accept that on this side of whatever divide we're on here, that you will never perhaps fully quench the thirst?” - Ian Morgan Cron “The gospel speaks about transformation, and transformation happens not when you try to be a good Christian, but when you actually give God consent to do in you what you cannot do for yourself, namely change.” - Ian Morgan Cron “I wonder if you could understand your seeming failures more as an invitation from God to a deeper intimacy with Him, rather than labeling them as failures or irredeemable misadventures. I think that lens has helped me to understand the peaks and valleys of my own life experience.” - Ian Morgan Cron “There was this core, broken soundtrack inside of me that had associated achievement, making others happy, and being enough by doing things, by producing, and by trying harder. It was not associated with what I knew to be true logically with God's Word.” - Alicia Michelle “When we as Christians can understand the beautiful ways that God has made our bodies and made our minds, it really helps us get to a place where we can choose to embrace those truths in a different way. When we are able to learn about our body, we can help our bodies get into a parasympathetic state so that we can make a logical response.” - Alicia Michelle “What if we could take actions to understand our body, to help it align with God's Word completely in the way that He intends?” - Alicia Michelle “This process of managing emotions is that it's important to connect with God, not just on a Sunday morning or when we're having these moments of dealing with a difficult emotion. The foundational truths of who we are in God, that's established mainly through that everyday interaction with the Lord, with time in His Word.” - Alicia Michelle ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel! Most everyone has heard of the twelve steps concept associated with Alcoholics Anonymous. I bring it here for all of us, whether you think you are addicted to anything or not, which is an arguable claim for anyone. Ian Morgan Cron is the bestselling author of The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery, which has sold over one million copies. He's a psychotherapist, Enneagram teacher, Episcopal priest, and the host of the popular podcast Typology. I had Ian on the show before to talk about the message in his book, The Story of You: An Enneagram Journey to Becoming Your True Self. Since he was on my show, Ian, this leader of so many, relapsed. It's not an incredibly sordid story, but he has a past history of substance abuse. All these years later, he found himself reliant on some substances and questioning himself in significant ways. In this episode we talk through his story. We talk about what Ian calls, “the great human ache.” We discuss what addiction is, the need we all have for community to keep us on a healthy path, and how the 12 steps are relevant for anyone seeking well-being. Ian breaks down how the 12 steps covers making peace with God, making peace with self, making peace with others and cultivating a healthy and fulfilling life. Ian has captured all this in a brand new book, The Fix: How the Twelve Steps Offer a Surprising Path of Transformation for the Well-Adjusted, the Down-and-Out, and Everyone In Between.
