Bill sits down with pastors Jack Guerra and Ryan Groshek to go deeper into John 14:1-14 — the passage Jack and Ryan both preached last weekend. "I am the way, the truth, and the life." "Do not let your hearts be troubled." "In my Father's house are many rooms." These are some of the most well-known lines in Scripture, and this conversation digs into what they actually mean. The guys talk about why heaven isn't boring (hint: think renewed creation, not clouds and harps), what it means that Jesus is the exclusive way to God and not just a spiritual signpost, and why general belief in "God" misses the point Jesus was actually making. Jack also shares how grief drove him deep into studying heaven, and Ryan breaks down the concept of new creation in a way that'll change how you think about eternity. They close with a conversation on prayer — what it means to ask in Jesus' name, and why answered prayers deserve real credit given to God.Main Passage: John 14:1-14Series: The Follow Up – Gospel of JohnWeek: 21

Pastor Jack sits down with Bill Van Kirk and Adam Jackson to dig into John 13 — where Jesus, the Creator of the universe, picks up a towel and washes His disciples' feet. The guys unpack the power of that little word "so" in verse 3-4, the haunting moment when Judas walks out into the night, and what it means for us to let Jesus keep washing the grime of daily life off our feet. They were so close — and yet so far. The crowd had the scriptures, the prophecies, and a King standing right in front of them. But they wanted Him for all the wrong reasons. In this week's episode of The Follow Up, Bill sits down with Jack and Garet to dig deeper into John 12:12–36 and the triumphal entry — commonly known as Palm Sunday. The crowd lines the road, waving palm branches and crying "Hosanna," but their hope is fixed on a political deliverer, not a suffering servant. This conversation unpacks why the desperation of that moment is both heartbreaking and deeply relevant to how we relate to Jesus today. The discussion explores why Jesus rode in on a donkey instead of a war horse, what the upside-down kingdom actually looks like, and why the way up in God's economy is always down. Jack shares a powerful image of the inverted pyramid — the one with the broadest shoulders holding everything up — and the team wrestles with how easy it is to reshape Jesus into who we want Him to be rather than who Scripture reveals Him to be.The conversation also turns personal. Garet shares how God led him to Green Bay in ways he could only see in hindsight, and Jack reflects on years of ministry preparation that seemed wasted until the exact moment God needed them. Both stories echo the disciples' experience in verse 16 — they didn't understand until they looked back. The episode closes with a sobering but hopeful reminder: life is short, and every day is both our greatest and possibly last opportunity to live for Christ. Jack shares stories of sudden loss and restoration, pointing us back to the urgency of walking in the light while we still can.Main Passage: John 12:12–36Series: The Follow Up – Gospel of JohnWeek: 18Chapters00:00 – Introduction and what hit the hardest02:50 – The desperation of the crowd and misguided expectations04:00 – Why Jesus came as a suffering servant, not a conquering king05:40 – The donkey, the palm branches, and nationalistic hope06:35 – The upside-down kingdom and the inverted pyramid07:15 – Knowing the true Jesus vs. making Him our mascot08:00 – The Ricky Bobby illustration and reshaping Jesus10:00 – Revelation and the full picture of who Jesus is11:30 – Growth means discomfort — loving enemies and laying down your life13:00 – Hindsight faith — the disciples didn't understand until later14:00 – Garet's story of God leading him to Green Bay14:40 – Jack's story of multi-site research that paid off years later15:50 – Staying anchored when the world feels like it's crumbling17:15 – Covid, the return to church, and God's sovereignty18:50 – Life is short — repentance and the urgency of today20:05 – The Three Doors Down story and living ready21:05 – Final encouragement and next stepsIf this episode encouraged you, like the video, leave a comment, and share it with someone who needs hope today. In this episode of The Follow Up, we take a deeper look at John 11:1–44 and Jesus' declaration, “I am the resurrection and the life.”Pastor Adam joins the conversation to explore the raising of Lazarus and what this miracle reveals about Jesus' power over death, His compassion for those who grieve, and God's greater purposes in seasons of waiting. We discuss why Jesus delayed, how Mary and Martha expressed faith in the middle of loss, and why Jesus wept even though resurrection was moments away. This passage reminds us that death is an enemy, not a design feature, and that real hope is found in a Person, not just a promise. We also reflect on spiritual resurrection and the confidence we can have that no heart is beyond Jesus' voice. If you are wrestling with unanswered prayers, grief, or trusting God's timing, this episode offers encouragement rooted in the truth of who Jesus is.Subscribe, share, and join us each week as we continue through the Gospel of John together.

In this episode of The Follow Up, the pastors dive deeper into John 10:22–42 and Jesus' declaration as the Good Shepherd during the Feast of Dedication. The discussion explores why Jesus' words challenged expectations of a political Messiah and instead revealed a spiritual Shepherd who knows His sheep and holds them securely. You'll hear thoughtful reflections on assurance of salvation, the difference between doubt and disbelief, and why following Jesus is rooted in what He has done, not what we maintain through effort. The conversation also addresses difficult passages like Psalm 82, the danger of transactional faith, and practical ways believers can learn to recognize the Shepherd's voice through Scripture, prayer, and community.Subscribe, share, and join us each week as we continue going deeper into the Gospel of John and what it means to faithfully follow Jesus.

In this episode of The Follow Up, we dive deeper into John chapter 9 and Week 14 of our Gospel of John series, Eyes to See. Jesus heals a man born blind, but the chapter exposes a deeper issue. Those who claim to see often miss what God is doing right in front of them.We explore spiritual blindness, the relationship between suffering and faith, and how obedience can lead to clarity. The discussion highlights the growing faith of the healed man and the resistance of religious leaders who refuse to see Jesus for who he is.This episode invites listeners to reflect on a simple but challenging question. In this week's Follow Up episode, Pastors Jack and Arlen dive deeper into John 8 — one of the most theologically dense and debated chapters in the New Testament. They discuss why Jesus says He is “the light of the world,” what it means that He uses the divine name “I AM,” and how to think about faith when people ask for more “proof.”They also address the famous passage of the woman caught in adultery — why it appears in some Bibles and not others — and why textual transparency actually strengthens rather than weakens our confidence in Scripture.Other themes include:• How assumptions distort our view of Jesus• Why every worldview relies on faith• How logic and experience work together• The tension of truth and grace• Why Jesus' clarity is actually compassionThis episode offers a grounded, pastoral, and thoughtful exploration of what Jesus claimed about Himself — and what that means for us today.

In this week's episode of The Follow Up, Ryan fills in as host and is joined by Jack and new staff member Ben Milkie to explore John 7, a chapter full of tension, questions, and conflicting reactions to Jesus. They unpack the three major scenes of division—among Jesus' brothers, the crowds in Jerusalem, and the religious leaders—and show how each group responds differently to His identity. They also dive into the rich symbolism of the Festival of Shelters, the promise of living water, and the future outpouring of the Holy Spirit.Ryan, Jack, and Ben reflect on how Jesus' exclusive claims naturally create division, why His mercy remains constant, and how believers can navigate modern-day tensions with humility, gentleness, and truth—especially around holidays and family gatherings.A thoughtful, encouraging conversation for anyone wanting to understand Scripture more deeply and follow Jesus faithfully in a divided world.Learn more or join us for a service:springlakechurch.org

In John chapter 5, Jesus makes one of His most astonishing claims — that God is His Father and that He shares in God's divine authority. In this conversation, Pastor Bill Van Kirk hosts Pastors Jack Guerra and Garet Meyer for a rich discussion about how Jesus' words would have been heard by His original audience, what “Son of Man” from Daniel 7 really means, and how the Trinity reveals both unity and distinction within God.They also reflect on why the Nicene Creed — written over 1,600 years ago — remains a vital declaration of faith for the church today.
