A podcast by Beau Shaniuk & Lauren Landers discussing a trans man’s experience with coming out, familial manipulation, top surgery, and more!
Hi friends, welcome BACK to T Time!! In this episode of T Time, we loop you all in on some fun life updates, one of which includes Beau's legal name change! Getting your name changed can seem difficult, daunting, and a bit intimidating, especially if you're unfamiliar with the process; this episode aims to break it down just a little bit and share our experience here in Ohio with the goal of helping anyone who's curious about how it works. We briefly cover the steps of the name-change process, as well as getting your driver's license and social security card updated, providing you all with a few helpful tips through the sharing of our own experience. Then of course, in the name of the pod, we spill the latest ~T~ with the goal of raising a bit of awareness regarding issues of over-sexualizing and dehumanizing trans bodies. If you have any questions you'd like us to address or have any comments/feedback, please feel free to message our Instagram account (@ttimepodcast2021) or head to our website at https://beaushaniuk.wixsite.com/ttimepodcast2021 to submit your inquiry. In this episode of T Time, we finally cover the topic that we know you've all been waiting for: weenies!!! This episode is all about breaking down the different types of FTM gender confirming bottom surgeries and outlining the advantages and disadvantages of each. We also go into a bit of detail regarding other GCS-associated surgeries that some FTMs might consider undergoing at some point during their transitions. While we spend the majority of this episode examining the different options for FTM bottom surgeries, the main thing that we want you all to take away from this episode is that bottom surgery or not, trans and non-binary folx are equally as valid!*** Disclaimer: we are NOT medical professionals and the information we put out in this episode is based on research, conversations, and personal opinions. It is not at all intended to replace the expertise of physicians and surgeons who are experts in this area of medicine. In this episode of T Time, we thought it could be beneficial to take you all on a journey back through the basics of LGBTQIA+ terminology. One of the biggest beauties of the queer community is that we are dynamic and self-adaptive because, after all, human beings aren't necessarily meant to be static! So, we use this episode to re-touch on some general terms, like sex vs. gender, transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, etc., while also going over some more specific terms, like deadnaming, passing/stealth, social & physical transitioning, etc. Additionally, we use this space to ensure that we can all develop a basic awareness about some of the terms and phrases in the trans community that have been changing in the recent past. All in all, this episode is meant to serve as a reminder that the terminology we use to define ourselves and describe our experiences in queer culture is unique, and is constantly changing as we adapt, grow, and learn more about ourselves. If you have any questions you'd like us to address, or if you have an Alex submission, please feel free to message our Instagram account (@ttimepodcast2021), or head to our website to submit that way: https://beaushaniuk.wixsite.com/ttimepodcast2021. In this episode of T Time, we're so excited to be sharing with you all an episode concept that was requested by one of our listeners several weeks ago: the story of our love! Throughout this beautiful podcasting journey, we've been so grateful to get to know quite a few you all through the utilization of Q&As, messaging conversations, guest speakers, and social media posts/polls; now, we wanted to help you all to get to know us and how our love came to be just a little bit more. From swiping right on Tinder, first dates at car repair shops, and Beau inviting himself to a family wedding of Lauren's, all the way to unlearning toxic traits, getting engaged and having our engagement photo shoot this week (woo!!), this episode is all about walking you through how we've come to be where we are today, both as a couple and as individuals. We also do some catching up on listener questions this week, as we address 3 wonderful questions that were written in over the past few weeks. As always, if you have any questions you'd like us to address or an Alex story submission you'd like to share, please feel free to message our Facebook/Instagram accounts (@ttimepodcast2021), or head to our website to submit a form at the bottom of the page: https://beaushaniuk.wixsite.com/ttimepodcast2021.
In this episode of T Time, we introduce you to our fourth fabulous PRIDE Month guest, Bobbi! Bobbi is a 65-year-old nonbinary, gender-fluid trans woman who offers a unique perspective regarding gender and gender identity. She came out approximately 14 years ago, and has been on hormone therapy for about a year and a half, providing us with an invaluable perspective on starting one's transition later in life. This week, we also work with Bobbi to break the gender binary through developing a deeper understanding of gender fluidity, while simultaneously acknowledging the concept of gender existing on a spectrum. Additionally, Bobbi's passion and deep connection to her Christian faith offers a wholesome and hopeful perspective for trans and LGBTQIA+ folx who might be struggling with their own religious faith. If you have any questions you'd like us to address, or if you have an Alex story submission, please feel free to message our Facebook/Instagram accounts (@ttimepodcast2021), or head to our website to submit that way: https://beaushaniuk.wixsite.com/ttimepodcast2021. In this episode of T Time, we introduce you to our third guest of this wonderful PRIDE Month, Charlie! An old friend of Beau's, a fellow trans community member, and a soon-to-be licensed pharmacist, Charlie teaches us a bit more about asexuality, and addresses the unfortunate reality of exclusionary politics that exist both within and outside of LGBTQ+ spaces, specifically regarding asexuals, bisexuals, and pansexuals. Additionally, he uses his educational background and expertise in pharmacology helps us to look at transgenderism from a unique healthcare perspective, answering questions regarding potential health implications from transitioning, neurological explanations for transgenderism - or rather, the lack thereof - and how healthcare professionals can work to support trans patients who receive little support from friends and family members!
In this episode of T Time, we introduce you all to our friend, Quinn! Quinn is a 16-year-old, cisgender, pansexual woman who offers a very unique and important perspective regarding being a teenager in the LGBTQ+ community. She touches on very meaningful points regarding how important it is for parents, guardians, and adults in general to validate and accept their LGBTQ+ children, highlighting the eye-opening and very real consequences behind erasure of different LGBTQ+ identities, especially in regards to younger populations. Additionally, she talks with us about some of the dangers and obstacles to acceptance in various online communities. Overall, our conversation with Quinn raises awareness to the fact that social media and various online platforms have the ability to be very discriminatory, non-inclusive, and otherwise, detrimental to the well-being of young LGBTQ+ folx. In this episode of T Time, we gratefully and excitedly kick off this month's plans with our very first PRIDE Month guest, Ellen! In this reboot of the new (and improved) Ellen Show, we introduce you all to family friend and long-time LGBTQIA+ community member, Ellen, who is a 48-year-old lesbian woman, wife, mother, and healthcare worker. With nearly 30 years of education, experience, and exposure to life in the LGBTQIA+ community, this week's guest walks us through what life has been like for her as a White, cisgender lesbian woman, and how it has changed over the last few decades. From gay bars in the 80s and Don't Ask Don't Tell, to the legalization of gay marriage and transgender High Priestesses, Ellen uses her storytelling to offer very interesting perspectives on the progress that has been made for LGBTQIA+ individuals, while simultaneously highlighting the progress that still has yet to be achieved. We also learn her perspective on the experiential differences of the various letters in the queer acronym, as well as why it's so important for other members of LGBTQIA+ communities to work to protect trans and non-binary folx.If you have any questions you'd like us to address, or if you have an Alex submission, please feel free to message our Facebook/Instagram accounts (@ttimepodcast2021), or head to our website to submit that way: https://beaushaniuk.wixsite.com/ttimepodcast2021.

In this episode of T Time, we go into more depth on a topic that we've mentioned, but never really covered: gender dysphoria. This episode is all about defining gender dysphoria, identifying where it stems from, and offering some tips and resources for how FTMs specifically might work to relieve their dysphoria. In this episode of T Time, we get back to our roots of education and clarity by diving into a topic that is high on our radar (and should be high on yours, too): the transgender sports ban. A particularly controversial, yet greatly referenced topic these days, legislation around the transgender sports ban has been circulating the U.S. and its social media platforms, and it is a very important topic to work towards understanding. This episode is all about presenting an introduction to where this ban came from, highlighting what is going on with it today, proposing counterarguments to those who claim its creation is based in "science," and all-in-all, educating listeners on why we believe the ban is disgusting, absurd, and detrimental to every single one of us. Lastly, we touch on a couple of action steps that we can all take to help prevent these notions from becoming laws!If you have any questions that you'd like us to address, or have any Alex submissions, please feel free to message in to our Instagram account: @ttimepodcast2021You can also feel free to head to our website at beaushaniuk.wixsite.com/ttimepodcast2021 and email in your questions/stories. We've realized that in order to fully move forward in using T Time as the positive and educational platform we intended for it to be, we have to wrap up the majority of our tea spillage. So, in this episode of T Time, we invite you all to join us in this vulnerable space of dumping out the rest of the “T” that's left in the kettle. Because ending on a positive note is so important to us, we wrap up with sharing the happy and supportive messages we've received throughout different parts of our journey! Lastly, we invite you all to join us in this movement towards self-empowerment - if you'd like to do so - by sharing personal experiences with your own Alexes, as we want to help bring the experiences of others to the light as much as possible.
