*DISCLAIMER — this episode features stories connected to eating disorders and sexual abuse.  Episode 318 features guests Francisco Alcazar, a zero waste designer based in Los Angeles, California, alongside Ella Wiznia, the founder and designer of Series NY. Using his 25 years experience as a structural engineer, Francisco is leading the movement that promotes circularity in fashion, and expanding these principles to other disciplines, whilst celebrating the material stories of each textile and the individuality they represent. A New York based brand of ethically made genderless clothing and accessories, Series NY makes every piece in NY in partnership with skilled artisans who set their own rates using only pre-existing and sustainable materials. “What I like about upcycling is the freedom that it gives you. When you're upcycling, you actually remix, rework, reuse. And in the process of doing that, the power is back to you. What I mean by that is when we go to a secondhand shop, all the clothes there are mixed up. You have the power to choose — there is no trend, there is no fashion. And the good thing is it's hard because you have to deal with your inner ‘what you actually like'. And some people follow trends because the process of learning about you is hard. It's easy to just conform and follow trends, you know, you go to magazines and copy a trend. You don't have to actually learn about yourself anymore.” -Francisco “Fashion kind of seems to be one of the only forms of art that is quote unquote gendered in most peoples' minds. I mean, you don't go into an art gallery and say ‘oh no, this is for men; no, that piece is for a girl' — you know, it's just not how it's done. Or architecture — ‘no, this building was for this these types of people'. We're all able to experience them how we want.” -Ella MARCH THEME — Acknowledging The Confines of Gender & The Folks Disrupting Stereotypes The fashion industry can often be described as frivolous with labels, stereotypes and binaries boxing us in – telling us how we need to dress and what identities are deemed quote unquote ‘acceptable', which can create spaces that are harmful, toxic and void of any sort of individuality and uniqueness – it can often be a place where difference in not celebrated but rather hidden. This week, our incredible guests share the power that upcycling has in being a paintbrush to the art you wish to create and see in the world - a world where the gender binary is challenged, where we go against ultra fashion trends, and have the permission to dress freely without societal bias and prejudice. We hear how pain can be the source of our purpose, and how textiles and materials are the vehicle in this journey of pride, play and personal empowerment. We explore the origins of gender-based crafts, the passing over of traditional skills and techniques, and how our guests are challenging the confines of gender stereotypes through reimagining materiality. The very concept of a gender binary, is under Satanic attack. Gender is said to be distinct from biological sex, and to exist only as a social construct. But what does the Bible teach us on this topic? You may be surprised to learn how much you've been impacted by the ‘spirit of the age.' It is very possible that you celebrate things the Bible teaches are reprehensible, and consider reprehensible things the Bible prescribes and celebrates. Listen as Pastor Matt explains how God designed men and women differently on purpose. And how that design is perfectly tailored to the duties He has prescribed to both genders. It is only as we embrace God's design that we can rule over and subdue the earth as God has called us to do.

In a world that often tries to fit people into rigid gender norms, it is important to create space for individuals to express their true selves. This is especially true for children who may not conform to traditional gender identities. As parents, it is our responsibility to support and affirm our children's identities, whether they identify as transgender, non-binary, or any other gender identity. The Mama Bears of Moms 4 Trans Kids Podcast talk about non-binary identities and parenting transgender and non-binary children. They emphasize the importance of supporting and accepting children for who they are, without imposing societal expectations or gender norms. They also discuss the challenges and joys of parenting LGBTQ+ children. The guests share personal stories and insights, highlighting the need for belief, acceptance, and education in order to create a more inclusive and understanding world. Key Takeaways: Non-binary identities are unique to each individual and may involve a range of gender expressions Parents should support and accept their children's gender identities without imposing societal expectations or gender norms Children often have a deep understanding of their own gender identity and should be believed and supported when they express it It is important for parents to educate themselves and seek support from LGBTQ+ communities and organizations to better understand and support their children Links and Resources Website: www.dr-lulu.com IG @drlulutalkradio Linkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/DrLulu/ Youtube: @drlulutalkradio Facebook Linktree

I recently ran across a brand new tool that is especially helpful for teaching your children and teens about God's good and glorious design for sexuality and gender. Written by Christopher Gordon, it's the New Reformation Catechism on Human Sexuality. If you are unfamiliar with catechisms, a catechism is a summary of the principle of Christian religion in the form of questions and answers that's used for instruction. And, in a world where our kids are being misled twenty-four seven, this new catechism serves to communicate the truths they need to hear in order to live into God's good and glorious design. Consider this question and answer regarding the gender binary: How many sexes did God make at Creation? God made two sexes at creation; in the image of God he created them, make and female he created them. Parents, we must educate our kids properly, pointing them to God's creational order and intent. And the place where we find this truth, is in the Bible!

The David Alliance   TDAgiantslayer@Gmail.com    You can change a lot of things about yourself. Weight loss, education, speed, hair color, your job, your pay and even your strength level… but there is one thing a woman and a man can't do…   A woman can't become a man and a man can't become a woman…    *Hey here is a thought… you can't change your sex. You cut things off, you can sew things on, you can pump your body full of hormones, drugs and you can dress any way you want… but it will not change your sex.   My grandpa used to say “you can paint a pig purple, but that don't make him a grape”. I would add… go ahead and paint it purple, call it a grape and squeeze that grape and feel free to drink whatever “juice” you get out of that grape… but you will find out quickly… its a pig.   In short, the Bible teaches that God made us male or female, and no matter our own feelings or confusion, we should act in accordance with the biological reality of God's good and PERFECT design. Transgenderism falls short of the glory of God and is not the way to walk in obedience to Christ. There are three Scriptural foundational principles that lead one without excuse to this conclusion.   1. Only 2 genders… or Gender Binary - binary means 2.. only two.  The Bible knows no other, creates no other, makes room for no other gender categories besides male and female.  Scripture has many beautiful pictures of how these two genders express themselves… and even has some strong opinions on when they are expressed wrong… there are still only 2 genders. Scripture is clear, you are either Male or Female      2. Gender Identity Many want to believe that transgender Christians can embrace God's design for men and women, but they also believe that who God created them to be does not correspond with the sex assigned to them at birth.” I don't doubt that there are persons like this out there (and in our churches). While some people embracing a transgender identity may do so on a lark, many strongly feel that only by living as the opposite sex can they full embrace their true self. The question is not whether such persons and feelings exist. The question is whether the is of our emotional or mental state equals the ought of God's design. Most Christians reject this thinking in a host of other areas, from eating disorders to unbiblical divorces. We understand that following Christ means dying to ourselves (Matt. 16:24),   3. Gender Confusion The third building block follows naturally from the other two. If the binary of male and female is God's idea, and if we are meant to embrace, by divine design, our biological and creational difference as men and women, then it stands to reason that the confusion of these realities would be displeasing to God. And so we see clearly in the Bible that men should not act sexually as women (Lev. 18:22; Rom. 1:18-32; 1 Cor. 6:9-10), that men should not dress like women (Deut. 22:5), and that when men and women embrace obviously other-gendered expressions of identity it is a disgrace (1 Cor. 11:14-15). We do not have an inalienable right to do whatever we want with our physical selves. We belong to God and should glorify him with our bodies (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

It started as a side-hustle, pouring wax for candles at his dining-room table in the evenings. But what Matthew Herman began selling was soon attracting the attention of major fragrance houses…and customers around the world. In building his brand, Herman burned through his savings in 18 months…and that was before the pandemic hit. But during it, direct-to-consumer sales took off. But so much interest all of a sudden almost broke the business. Host Christine Lagorio-Chafkin spoke with Matthew about his innovative approach to branding, naming candles, and designing concepts that embrace complex dualities–and add up to a brand that's helping to blur the gender binary in retail.

Christine Moad, a bassist and singer-songwriter, blends indie rock with blues and soul influences delivered with a defiant punk attitude to open listeners' minds to possibilities beyond the gender binary. This episode is a fantastic way to wrap up Pride month; however, remember that the struggles and celebration of LGBTQ+ lives continue throughout the year.   [Miss Christine Bio] Christine Moad has traveled the world from Tennessee to Monaco as a professionally touring bassist. Books That Make You Acknowledge Pride Month June is Pride Month. It's especially poignant this year, too, with so many LGBTQ+ books being challenged across the country, and winding up on banned-book lists. Author Lee Wind's “Queer as a Five-Dollar Bill: The Podcast” will drop thirty-six episodes in June 2023, as both a celebration of Pride Month and a response to the book-banning and intimidation many in the Queer community—particularly teens—are experiencing. With a Master's in education from Harvard, Lee writes stories to empower kids and teens to be their authentic selves and to change the world: the very same books that would have changed his life growing up a young, gay Jewish kid. He works for the Independent Book Publishers Association as their Director of Education and Programs, and as the official blogger for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. In addition, he is the organizer of the Queer Kid Lit Creators community, and runs the popular blog I'm Here. I'm Queer. What the Hell Do I Read?,  words his teenage self once might have only dreamed of saying. Upcoming books include the YA novel A Different Kind of Brave (Duet/Chicago Review Press), The Gender Binary is a Big Lie (Zest/Lerner), and the picture book Love of the Half-Eaten Peach (Reycraft), inspired by Queer history. Lee lives in Los Angeles with his husband of more than 25 years, and they have a grown daughter. Visit him online at leewind.org. Find out more on Books That Make You. When Matthew and his co-founder, David Kien, began making candles out of their kitchen, they took a different stance. They named the brand Boy Smells and packaged products in a pink box, giving rise to what they call “genderful” expression. This week, we are re-airing a conversation we had with Alok Vaid-Menon in early June, before we had the final Dobbs decision. Alok's work is always salient but with the recent midterm election results showing an overwhelming affirmation of reproductive access, we believe their call for transformative thinking around gender essentialism and bodily autonomy is a way both to celebrate the wins at the polls and drive us towards a more expansive and imaginative vision of what's possible from here. Alok Vaid-Menon is a nonbinary writer, performer, public speaker, activist and artist exploring the themes of trauma, belonging, and the human condition. They are the author of Femme in Public, Beyond the Gender Binary, and Your Wound/My Garden. Alok has done a lot of work to interrogate their history, our collective history, and to probe beneath the surface of what we've come to accept as the norm. They challenge us all to use our imagination to re-wire what we believe is possible for ourselves and society around us. This is a really special conversation and our team, quite honestly, all felt gob-smacked by Alok's perspective. We let this conversation run long because we wanted you all to experience it and take it in as we did.

As the feminist movement has regrouped in the wake of the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, one of the more surprising debates that has emerged has been one about semantics. Some feminists argue that using inclusive phrases like “pregnant person” in reproductive rights advocacy minimizes the experiences of cisgender women. So where do trans and nonbinary people fit within feminism's big tent? And if the trans rights movement and the feminist movement are fighting for many of the same things — most critically, the protection of bodily autonomy — why can't they get on the same page?In part two of our series on the future of feminism, Jane Coaston is joined by two trans feminists and writers, Dr. Jennifer Finney Boylan and Thomas Page McBee. Together, they discuss how the gender binary has informed their own identification, how they've felt supported — or left behind — by mainstream feminism, and how they want the two movements to work together going forward.(A full transcript of the episode will be available midday on the Times website.)

As new generations increasingly have the knowledge and social acceptance to explore their identities, the number of openly transgender people in our world—especially transgender youth—is rapidly rising. Yet despite these recent spikes— the transgender community is still comparatively small: making up roughly 0.6% of the global population. As a result, many cisgender people (meaning those of us whose gender aligns with the one we were assigned at birth) have little to no lived experience interacting with transgender people. What we're exposed to instead is whatever our media, political, and social leaders choose to tell us about them, resulting in a perilous gap between actual transgender people and a series of cultural stereotypes. This gulf in our understanding not only endangers the trans population, it harms all of us, discouraging marginalized demographics from working together, making it even more difficult for us to dismantle oppressive structures, and denying cisgender people the chance to love their trans neighbors. Fortunately, some transgender people are stepping forward to help bridge this divide, sharing their personal stories, dispelling dangerous myths, and helping us envision a more egalitarian future for all. On today's episode I'm happy to say we'll be joined by two such voices: Sam Rose Preminger and Domi Shoemaker Sam Rose Preminger (they/them) is a trans-nonbinary, Jewish writer and publisher. They hold an MFA from Pacific University, serve as the Editor-in-Chief of NAILED Magazine, and are a contributing editor at Lightship Press and Write Bloody Publishing. Their poetry has appeared in numerous publications online and in print. Their debut collection of poems —'Cosmological Horizons' — is forthcoming from Kelsay Books (Summer 2022). They live in Portland, OR, where they've acquired too many house plants. www.sampreminger.com Domi J Shoemaker (they/them) is an Idaho-born gender flexer who founded the quarterly reading series, Burnt Tongue, after cutting teeth in Tom Spanbauer's Dangerous Writers workshop. While finishing an MFA in Writing in 2015, author Lidia Yuknavitch asked Domi to help her create the Corporeal Writing Seasonal Workshop Series. This year brings an unprecedented surge of anti-trans legislation banning everything from sports participation to healthcare access. So far, we're tracking roughly 280 state bills that have been filed ahead of or during this legislative session. At the same time, the Supreme Court is on the precipice of delivering a final decision that will likely overturn Roe v. Wade, blocking people who can get pregnant from abortion care. These attacks are actually all part of the same movement, a movement against bodily autonomy and our ability to live freely no matter our model or make, a movement to re-entrench gender hierarchy and binary thinking. To that end, we're bringing you a conversation with Alok Vaid-Menon, a nonbinary writer, performer, public speaker, activist and artist exploring the themes of trauma, belonging, and the human condition. This week we are rebroadcasting our interview with ALOK, originally aired in August of 2021. “I validate the idea that survival is the ultimate act of creation in a world that has reduced us to fascist arithmetic, of being a quantitative statistic, not a human soul. So we still found a way to care, love, and create - isn't that art? I teach people to decipher the art that they're already doing, recognize the artistry and the everyday miracles of life around them, and create from that place.” This week we immerse ourselves in the aforementioned call to recognize the myriad of creations all around us from guest ALOK, who guides us in an ever-expansive dialogue around spiritual wellbeing, the importance of creative literacy, and the tremendous freedom that awaits us when we make gender unknowable. We begin our conversation by foregrounding the importance of moving out of the paradigm of understanding trans and queer as something that is exclusive to the body. Instead, ALOK shares how challenging the gender binary is not only in service to our collective wellbeing but is a reverential offering in acknowledging our true celestial expansiveness that has been dimmed under binarism, heteronormativity, and colonialism. ALOK is a gender non-conforming writer and performance artist. Their distinctive style and poetic challenge to the gender binary have been internationally renowned. As a mixed-media artist Alok uses poetry, prose, comedy, performance, fashion design, and portraiture to explore themes of gender, race, trauma, belonging, and the human condition. They are the author of Femme in Public (2017) and Beyond the Gender Binary (2020). Music by Soda Lite, Rising Appalachia, and Lady Moon & The Eclipse.  Visit our website at forthewild.world for the full episode description, references, and action points.
