When life told Adam Powell to stop, he found another way to go. Living with multiple sclerosis, Adam learned early on that strength isn't about how far you go — it's about how you keep going. Now, with neural sleeves helping him move in ways once impossible, his journey continues as proof that hope is more than a feeling — it's a force in motion.Featured in 'The Beautiful Edition' of AwareNow Magazine: www.awarenowmagazine.comGuest: Adam PowellHost: Allié McGuireMusic by: Rosie ShpiglerProduced by: AwareNow Media
Eugene "Big Gene" Bazemore is a 32-year-old Army veteran-turned-super-heavyweight powerlifter who clawed his way from orphan shelters in Hampton Roads, VA to a 2,050-lb raw total and an XPC Arnold Worlds title in barely three seasons on the platform. After military service left a competitive void, Eugene discovered powerlifting through Westside vs The World, self-coached his first meet in 2022, and has been stacking 2K-plus totals—and life lessons—ever since. In this conversation with Dave, Gene breaks down the realities of untested lifting, balancing an elite training schedule with day-to-day life in Marietta, nutrition that fuels 800-lb deadlifts, and why the barbell became the lifeline that kept him out of prison. Yo, what's good, packaging people? Adam Peek here, and you know how we roll—we're diving deep into the real talk behind building a brand. On this episode, I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with Jack McNamara and Yash Banthia, the co-founders of Tru Energy Drinks. These guys aren't just making a great-tasting, better-for-you beverage; they're building a brand with a purpose, and their story is a masterclass in hustle and smart business decisions. From the Dungeon to DrinkTru.comJack and Yash's journey is the kind of scrappy startup story you love to hear. We're talking about a a literal dungeon—the basement of a Jiu-Jitsu gym—and a mindset of relentless improvement. We got into the nitty-gritty of their brand's evolution, from the early days of a crazy-expensive, custom-designed shot bottle that customers didn't even understand, to their current sleek, pre-printed cans. It's a prime example of why you can't be afraid to kill your darlings and embrace change, even if it means moving away from your original, most "creative" idea. The Power of Packaging EvolutionThis is where the real value bombs were dropped. We broke down:* The Cost of Creativity: Why a custom-molded bottle wasn't the right move for them early on, and how tooling costs can crush a new brand's cash flow.* The Sprint to Scale: The massive leap from a small, local co-packer to a national one, and the significant 35% savings they unlocked by switching from shrink sleeves to pre-printed cans. This is a crucial lesson in understanding your supply chain and the economies of scale.* Reading the Room (and the Shelf): How a simple redesign, like moving the brand name to the top and adding a clear flavor stripe, can make all the difference in a competitive retail environment. We talked about consumer behavior and why you've got two seconds to communicate what your product is.Products with a PurposeOne of the coolest things about Tru is their commitment to giving back. I had to call them out for not leading with their charitable contributions—they're just out there doing good because it's the right thing to do. We discussed their partnership with the Trevor Project and how building a brand with a strong mission, even when you're not yet profitable, can be a huge motivator for the team.Big shout-out to Jack and Yash for their time and their transparency. If you're out there building a CPG brand, trying to figure out your packaging, or just need a dose of entrepreneurial inspiration, this episode is for you.Check out Tru's full product line at drinktru.com and grab a can or a powder pack to fuel your next big idea. Don't forget to look for them at stores like Market Basket, Wegmans, and H-E-B.And hey, if you're ever in Salt Lake City, hit up Harmons and tell 'em Adam sent you! And yes, a special shout-out to my parents, Ed and Lydia Peek, and Jack's toddler. Thanks for listening, everyone! This is a public episode. Here are compelling show notes for episode 058 of The Influence Every Day Show: Episode 058 – Roll Up Your Sleeves and Dig Into the Context The Influence Every Day Show with Dr. Ed Tori When we strip away context, we strip away meaning - and often, we misjudge what's in front of us. In this powerful episode, Dr. Ed Tori shares a deeply personal story: his mother's recent hospitalization. On paper, her condition might seem dire. But a single sentence changed the room every time: “Just seven days ago, she was on my deck writing her fifth book.” That one line reframed the entire situation for nurses, doctors, and therapists alike - and it lit a fire of urgency, hope, and action. This episode isn't just about a medical scare - it's a masterclass in influence. You'll learn: Why context is the gateway to compassion and accurate decision-making How repeating a key narrative can ripple through systems and shift outcomes The subtle power of anchoring people in a story - not just a snapshot Why your words can either lower the bar or raise the standard If you lead, teach, care for others, or solve problems for a living - this is essential listening. Things Discussed: Wink Martindale criticism: The Emotional Rollercoaster sweatshirt from Sack the Stigma is great but Wink is cutting off the sleeves, which are the best part. Wink Martindale praise: His defensive approach changed to be much more college late in the season. Can't be in his head but we think he was having guys make reads that they were missing (examples: Zeke Berry nickel blitz from nowhere on the USC TD, or Barham leaving an RB wide open in the flat) and trying to play attention games with Mason Graham (see: the 3rd down sets). That's how the game is played in the NFL but in college it's much more straightforward. This is praise because he realized what was happening and changed what he was doing, which is extremely hard for people to do. Everybody was coming from success, so they had to get comfortable with each other. Was a big thing for the player as well. Will Johnson noted some of these players need the A and B explained before you tell them to do C. Rod Moore: Expect him to play, not sure how rusty he's going to be and what's the timeline. We'll hear from Rod when Sam interviews him. Mikey Keene vs Bryce Underwood: VERY different offensive planning. Kinds of passes are different, how you use his legs is different, how much pre-snap reading you're doing is different. Having Keene out in spring gave the offense clarity. Chip Lindsey offense: He uses RPOs and running QBs but he cuts back on the running and focuses on making the QBs more efficient. He also will turn regular routes into long bombs—they missed one to Channing Goodwin in the spring but it was open. RPOs and screens? Well you have to show you can beat man coverage to access those, and that means dropping back with a QB who can be safe in the pocket long enough to find his leverage and deliver an accurate pass all over the field to receives who create their own space. Do we have that QB, those WRs, that OL? OL: Sam's discussion with Sherrone started with Blake Frazier (because Sam asked) but he also said Andrew Babalola and Ty Haywood are more athletically talented than ANY guy they've had at Michigan until now. Link is battling with Frazier and Babalola for LT. Crippen: Not sure how much better he can get because his reads are spot-on, but versus top-of-the-line DTs who knew what's coming Crippen got physically manhandled. He's alright, but you need something on this offense that is better than alright if you want to take the pressure off of Bryce/his protection/his receivers. That said, centers pop late—how many times have we seen an Anderson or Bihl or Kugler or Vastardis have a great 5th year. WRs: Are probably a lot better than their stats last year (fewest WR yards since 1973, would have been bottom-third among Bo teams.) But there could be a player or three in there—they didn't have the passing. Warren didn't know what he was looking at half the time and wasn't accurate. Orji had no downfield accuracy at all. Defense knew it. Link vs Ohio State/Alabama? Did well, but the context was Michigan took dropbacks out of the offense.

In this episode of The Long Haul, Adam Wingfield sits down with Justin Lu, CEO of Truckpedia, to break down one of the most critical moves for small carriers—getting out of the broker dependency cycle and going directly to shippers for freight. Justin knows this game firsthand. He took his family's 3-truck operation and scaled it to 50 trucks by putting in the work, cold calling shippers, and securing direct freight contracts. Now, through Truckpedia, he's helping other small carriers do the same—showing them how to stand out, build credibility, and win direct freight opportunities. We go deep into why small carriers need to stop waiting for freight to come to them, the common mistakes they make when approaching shippers, and how to confidently pitch their services to land steady, high-paying freight. A couple of episodes ago, we talked about a dramatic change in leadership at the International Powerlifting Federation. The latest wrinkle is that the federation has recently notified the manufacturers of “stiff” knee sleeves that their products are banned from use in competition – immediately. Is the IPF being fair to manufacturers or its members? What prompted this sudden change? Mike offers some insights from his past experiences with designing knee sleeves and working to gain IPF approval. What's the rationale behind a system that only favors companies that pay to play? What's the future of international competition if numerous companies, especially those that support meets with sponsorship, fail because they have too much money sunk into inventory they can't sell? We've got more questions than answers, to be honest. Listener resource: ONIBUKIYA response to the ban on ONI knee sleevesJoin our Discord for free at goodcompanydiscord.com!
