We discuss whether they are a genuine player welfare initiative, or a (very) thinly veiled advertising slot, whether there will ever be evidence they are changing the dynamics of matches, the concept of momentum (real or imagined?), and why a combination of heat and end of season fatigue might explain some lacklustre performances so far?Teenage phenoms had mixed fortunes in the Diamond League last week. Cooper Lutkenhaus flew (literally, across the line) to another win, this time over the Olympic champion in the 800m, while Gout Gout stuttered in his Diamond League 200m debut. Gout partly bounced back in Ostrava, but he highlights again the challenge of unrealistic expectations. Speaking of Ostrava, Werro was fast again, while Bol impressed in her debut, but is, for now, a generation and 3 seconds behind the big two. Can she improve enough to legitimately challenge them, and what will it take for Werro and Hodgkinson to get closer to that WR, from a pacing and race strategy perspective? We discuss.A genuinely wild NCAA Championships in Eugene produced what might be the best single meeting of sprint performances in history, headlined by a shock 110m hurdles world record from 20 year old Ja'Kobe Tharp. We work through the collegiate records that fell in the 400, 200 and 100, and ask when next these athletes will run as fast as they did last week?Adaejah Hodge was one outstanding performer, clocking the 5th fastest time ever over 100m, a 10.63s. Her backstory asks some uncomfortable questions about a secret doping ban, a case resolution agreement, and a high school coach who was the target of the investigation. We unpack the details and ask whether the sport is getting the trade-offs right?Letrozole, fertility treatment, and an unusually candid announcement from double world champion Gudaf Tsegay explain why her four month doping suspension is one of the more sympathetic cases we have coveredRemco Evenepoel's threshold power numbers were revealed in his latest YouTube video, and we discuss what 425 watts for an hour actually means heading into the Tour de France, why durability rather than fresh power might decide the race, and why the one hour threshold power may be less of an issue for the Belgian than his 20 to 40 min climb powerAnd finally, some good news from the Discourse community: Supporter club member Sophie coached an athlete using some of the heat adaptation advice from our listener community to help prepare for altitude, and the athlete went on to win a European uphill running title by over two minutes Hosted on Acast. Bobby Joe Long killed at least eight women in Tampa Bay in 1984. He was caught because a seventeen-year-old girl he kidnapped was smarter than he was. Lisa McVey spent twenty-six hours in Long's apartment — blindfolded, bound, enduring the unimaginable — and used every one of those hours to build a case against him. She loosened her blindfold to see his car interior. She left fingerprints deliberately. She planted a barrette with her hair attached. She invented a story about a dying father that convinced Long to let her go.The first detective who interviewed her didn't believe her. Her own grandmother called police to say she was lying. But Sergeant Larry Pinkerton believed her — and in the process of investigating the abduction, discovered that Lisa had been enduring something almost as terrible inside her own home for three years.Lisa McVey is now a master deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. She watched Bobby Joe Long die by lethal injection in 2019 from the front row. This is Surviving Serial Killers on History's Hidden Killers — and this is the story of the girl who outsmarted a serial killer while blindfolded.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Playlist;FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “You tore me down”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “Shake some action”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “Misery”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “Please please girl”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “Yes it’s true”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “St Louis Blues”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “She said yeah”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “Don’t you lie to me”CHUCK BERRY “Don’t you lie to me” (1961)FATS DOMINO “Don’t you lie to me” (1951)Versión y Original; TAMPA RED “Don’t you lie to me” (1941)FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “I’ll cry alone”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “I saw her”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “Teenage confidential”FLAMIN’ GROOVIES “I can’t hide”MING CITY ROCKERS “I’d like to assist you but my head is too small”LORD ROCHESTER “Tiger feet”THE NOMADS “Hangman’s walk”SEX MUSEUM “Bailaré sobre tu tumba”Escuchar audio

Episode 814. This week on Got Faded Japan, Johnny dives headfirst into another tsunami of crime, chaos, and questionable life choices from across Japan.
A blonde '90s hair flip. Cigarette-in-hand red carpet appearances. A supposedly "washed-up" former child star working behind the counter of a coffee shop and living on her own at 15 years old. It's time to dive into one of the most pivotal and often overlooked periods of Drew Barrymore's life. Between 1990 and 1991, a newly sober and newly emancipated teenage Drew was rebuilding from the ground up: attending AA meetings, releasing her bestselling memoir Little Girl Lost, taking odd jobs to pay the bills, and fighting to be taken seriously as an actress again.Along the way, she collected a few tattoos, a couple boyfriends, a driver's license she may or may not have immediately lost, and roles in future cult classics like Poison Ivy and Guncrazy. Drew's big comeback was just around the corner! As she put it in 1991: "I just hope that I make the right choices and get to be an actress for the rest of my life."Join our Patreon for exclusive episodes & more: patreon.com/howdoyoudrewVisit our website for episode galleries & links: howdoyoudrew.comFollow the show's Instagram to connect with us & other Drewbies: @howdoyoudrewpodVisit our Drew Barrymore virtual museum: thedrewseum.comFollow The Drewseum on Instagram for more Drew content: @drewseum Subscribe to stay in the loop: How Do You Drew newsletter

Content warning: This episode contains discussion and description of rape, sexual assault and male violence against women and girls. “THE TERROR OF THE MEDIEVAL PLAGUE SHIP HAS RETURNED TO HAUNT THE WORLD!” The Telegraph compared the Hantavirus cruise outbreak to the literal bubonic plague which wiped out 50 million people. Hantavirus killed three. These unhinged headlines exposed a news industry pining for the next pandemic, when Covid clickbait saw news traffic and subscribers hit record growth. But if the media wanted a catastrophic outbreak with a death rate twice as high as the hantavirus cruise, they had one at their disposal. The Ebola epidemic in the Congo and Uganda began at the same time as the Hantavirus outbreak. It has killed a hundred times more people and been officially declared a global emergency by the WHO. In this news watch episode, Media Storm compares coverage of hantavirus and ebola across UK and US outlets. The findings are telling. In part two: three teenage boys in Hampshire, UK, were convicted of ten counts of rape against a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old girl, in two separate, calculated attacks. Their punishment? Community youth rehabilitation orders, restraining orders with an expiry date… and a £26 fine. Plenty has been written in the press about Judge Nicholas Rowland's lenient sentence and ‘himpathy' for the boys: they have ADHD, low IQ and need not go to prison! The media outrage did achieve change (the Prime Minister spoke up). But what was found in only ONE article may be the most crucial part of the story: the rapist boys had been reported to police multiple times, including for alleged sexual violence. Why does our media fail to point to wider patterns of control and manipulation when it comes to cases of extreme sexual violence? If this is a systemic failure of policing and justice, who will hold them to account? You can sign the petition for a Judicial Accountability Framework here. It's Friday, May 29th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus and Jonathan Clark 180 Christian families denied communal water in India More than 180 Christian families in 32 villages across Chhattisgarh State in central India have reportedly been denied access to communal water sources and livelihood opportunities for the past three weeks as punishment for refusing to leave their Christian faith, reports International Christian Concern. Many Christian families in the Antagarh region of the district have been barred from using community rivers, ponds, taps, and hand pumps. At the same time, Christians have been denied work under a government employment scheme. 2 Timothy 3:12 says, "Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." According to Open Doors, India is the 12th most oppressive country worldwide for Christians. Trump's accelerating squeeze on Cuba The Trump administration is bracing for the potential collapse of Cuba's totalitarian government as early as this summer, and has war-gamed new military response plans in case the island descends into chaos, reports Axios. President Trump will keep pushing economic sanctions to try to strangle the regime in Havana in a slow-motion constriction. This methodical squeezing of Cuba's communist regime is also designed to buy time for Trump — who's now engrossed in peace talks with Iran — to eventually focus on Cuba and decide how to bring about change there. The Cuba operation aims to eliminate Latin America's source of Marxist agitation and anti-U.S. activism ever since Fidel and Raul Castro led their successful revolution in 1959. To bring Cuba to its knees this year, the administration first focused on the island's lifeline: Venezuela, which is 1,200-miles south, and its socialist dictator, Nicolás Maduro. Venezuela kept Cuba afloat with shipments of oil that helped power the country and gave it a source of export revenue. Former Attorney General Pam Bondi has thyroid cancer Former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer shortly after her departure from office earlier this year and is now receiving treatment, reports USA Today. Bondi, age 60, was fired by President Donald Trump in April but is set to return to the Trump administration to serve on an advisory committee on artificial intelligence policy as she battles cancer. Thyroid cancer results from malignant cells growing in a person's thyroid gland, the butterfly-shaped gland at the base of your neck that makes hormones, according to the Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic. These hormones regulate how your body uses energy, including metabolism, heart rate and blood pressure. Jill Biden wondered whether Joe had a stroke mid debate Remember this pivotal moment in the 2024 presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump? BIDEN: “Making sure that we continue to strengthen our health care system. Making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the uh, with the COVID, excuse me, with, um, with dealing with everything we have to do with. Look, if. We finally beat Medicare!” As First Lady Jill Biden watched her husband stumble through the most cringeworthy portion of his disastrous June 2024 debate, she wondered if he had unknowingly ingested drugs or was having a medical episode on live television. In an upcoming CBS News Sunday Morning interview she said this. JILL BIDEN: “As I watched it, I thought, ‘He's having a stroke!' And it scared me to death.” However, at the time, right after the debate two years ago, Jill Biden said this. JILL BIDEN: “Joe, you did such a great job! You answered every question. You knew all the facts.” In her new biography entitled, View From the East Wing, she was far more candid. She wondered, “Is he short-circuiting? Is this a stroke? I felt like we were watching an AI hologram of the man we knew, and the hologram was glitching. Has he been drugged?” According to The Atlantic, which has seen a preview copy ahead of the June release, Jill Biden wondered, “Will people watching assume this is how he is all the time?” Bidens fighting to squelch embarrassing audio recordings Gary Bauer, founder of American Values and the co-host of Family Talk, wrote, “Right now, the Bidens are fighting to prevent closed-door audio recordings of interviews Joe Biden did from being released to the public. Why? Because in those interviews Biden couldn't remember basic events in his life. He couldn't remember when he was vice president. He couldn't remember when his son, Beau, died. He couldn't remember the advice his generals gave him.” Bauer concluded, “And we all remember what Special Counsel Robert Hur said. Hur did not charge Biden for keeping classified documents because no jury would convict an ‘elderly man with a poor memory.' In other words, Joe was not mentally competent to stand trial.” Teenage worker bees drops to lowest level since 1948 The number of teenagers working jobs this summer is expected to fall to the lowest level since 1948. The consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas predicts teens will gain 790,000 jobs in May, June, and July. That's down from 801,000 last summer. The firm noted, “Rising inflation, climbing oil prices, and a broadly cautious hiring environment are expected to keep the 2026 summer hiring total well below historical averages as employers and consumers rein in spending.” Welsh preacher John Penry pleaded for Welsh evangelism before execution And finally, on May 29,1593, 433 years ago today, Welsh Protestant preacher John Penry appealed for Christian pastors to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Wales shortly before his execution under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. John Penry wept for Wales. He noted that thousands of Welsh had never heard of Christ. He wrote, “O destitute and forlorn condition! Preaching itself in many parts is unknown. In some places, a sermon is read once in three months.” Penry proposed a system of lay pastors supported in part with voluntary gifts from the people. His attack on the neglectful behavior of the Church of England won Penry the undying hostility of John Whitgift, the Archbishop of Canterbury, reports the Christian History Institute. Having become a Puritan Separatist in his thinking, Penry could not accept a state-run system because, "The truth of Christ” could not be in bondage to an “anti-Christian power.” Because of such outspoken views, and his stern warnings to Queen Elizabeth I and her bishops, Penry had to flee. Because he dared to expose the Church of England for its neglect, John Penry was captured and treated to a travesty of justice. Some strong words of warning against the queen in his notebook were interpreted as treason. Archbishop Whitgift was the first to sign his death warrant. Penry was hauled off to be hanged on this day, May 29, 1593. A thin scattering of bystanders, none of them his friends, watched as the 34-year old departed this world at the end of a rope about four in the afternoon. He was not allowed to preach a final sermon. He had, however, written a lengthy letter to his four daughters named Deliverance, Comfort, Safety, and Sure Hope -- who ranged in age between 4 and four months. He implored them to follow the true faith. James 1:12 says, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him." He discusses his early motivation, including losing his father young and later buying back his father's red-and-white 1956 Chevy Bel Air, and explains how his cattle-industry background led into ranch and land deals, development work, and commercial transactions. Olsen outlines what he looks for when hiring, why “speed to lead” and “speed of implementation” matter, how he uses AI tools to save time, and why businesses that don't adapt will fall behind. To learn more about Adam Olsen and his teams, check out the links below. https://www.instagram.com/adamsolsen/https://www.instagram.com/adam.olsen.team/https://thecommercialprofessionals.com/https://adamolsenteam.com/00:00 Disruption and AI urgency00:54 Podcast intro and guest setup04:28 Adam Olsen origin story06:54 Dad memories and that Chevy Bel Air12:05 Pilot license and going all in14:58 Early grind and sales basics18:41 Safety net and sacrifices22:29 Scaling up and leadership shift26:16 Confidence and communication skills30:42 Finding a niche in land deals32:07 Land Deals and Rights34:18 Marketing and Prospecting35:29 Team Size Breakdown37:28 Hiring for Street Smarts43:00 Speed of Implementation49:17 AI Tools and Market Risks57:57 Disruptive Business Growth01:05:33 Where to Follow Adam01:06:19 Final Wrap and Credits

A shocking video from a Centra in Dun Laoghaire has gone viral...a gang of teenagers wrecking the shop, squaring up to staff and security, knocking over shelves and causing absolute mayhem in broad daylight.Adrian and Jeremy ask the big question: what can actually be done about feral anti-social behaviour when there's “no consequences”, and where were the Gardaí when the station is only minutes away?Callers and voice notes describe a rampage through the area, assaults outside McDonald's, terrified families, and claims the same gang were back at it again today. And then… a message lands blaming the show for posting the video — and defending the “nephew” in it.
Today, the family of a teenage rape victim whose attackers were spared jail have told the BBC they hope the "correct outcome will prevail" -- after it was announced the sentences would be referred to the Court of Appeal. There was widespread criticism after three boys were handed youth rehabilitation orders in connection with the rape of two teenage girls in Hampshire. Sentencing guidelines state that rehabilitation should be prioritised for youth offenders. The Prime Minister confirmed on Tuesday the sentences would now be referred to the Court of Appeal. What does life actually look like after eating disorder recovery? Not the Instagram version—the real, honest truth. Today, on my youngest son's 8th birthday, I'm sharing the profound lessons recovery has taught me about life, motherhood, building a business, and navigating the beautiful mess of being fully human. These aren't platitudes or recovery clichés—they're hard-earned truths from someone living freely on the other side. In this deeply personal episode, you'll discover: Why your perspective determines whether thoughts become prison or power How fear reveals inexperience, not inability The recovery superpower that changes everything Why everything (yes, everything) is temporary The liberation of becoming your own rescue How to stop wasting your most precious currency Why healing happens through action, not perfection How your recovery creates ripples that save other lives For the woman wondering if recovery is worth it—this is your answer. THE BIRTHDAY REVELATION Yesterday, we celebrated my son turning 8. As I watched him blow out his candles, I got emotional thinking about all the birthdays I was present for him but not for myself. But more than that—I started reflecting on everything recovery has given me beyond just freedom from food noise. Wisdom about life, relationships, business, and what really matters. These 8 lessons aren't just about recovery—they're about living fully awake in your own life. LESSON 1: YOUR PERSPECTIVE CAN BE YOUR POWER OR YOUR PRISON During my disorder: My appetite = my failure. Family dinners = battlegrounds. My changing body = what I should fear above all other things. Now: My sons appetite (and mine)= health. Dinners = connection. His growth = beautiful unfolding. The truth: Your perspective shapes everything—how you see situations AND how you let others' opinions affect you. Eleanor Roosevelt was right: No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Recovery teaches you to withdraw that consent and choose empowering perspectives. Your thoughts can be the walls of your prison or the wings of your freedom. LESSON 2: FEAR COMES FROM INEXPERIENCE, NOT INCAPABILITY Every time I was terrified to try something new in business—launching programs, raising prices, speaking—it wasn't because I couldn't do it. I just hadn't done it yet. The eating disorder convinced me I was incapable of eating intuitively, resting without guilt, taking up space. But I wasn't incapable—I was inexperienced. Every fear about recovery isn't proof you can't do it. It's proof you haven't experienced it yet. The only way through inexperience is experience. LESSON 3: RADICAL HONESTY IS YOUR RECOVERY SUPERPOWER For years, I lied constantly: "I'm fine" (when dying inside) "I don't care about food" (when it consumed my thoughts) "Recovery is easy" (when it felt impossible) But dishonesty keeps you sick. Honesty sets you free. Being honest with my kids about needing rest. With clients about what recovery requires. With myself about what wasn't working. That radical honesty—about what you want, need, feel, and what must change—becomes your greatest recovery tool. LESSON 4: EVERYTHING IS TEMPORARY—THE GOOD AND THE HARD The hard seasons pass: Teenage drama, business struggles, recovery setbacks. The beautiful moments pass too: My son's 8th birthday will never come again. Your eating disorder feels permanent when you're in it. Recovery struggles feel endless. But they're not. Recovery game-changer: Never ruin a good day thinking about yesterday's mistakes. One slip-up used to destroy my entire week. Now I know—yesterday's choices don't determine today's possibilities. Everything is temporary. How do you want to spend this temporary time? LESSON 5: YOU ARE YOUR OWN RESCUE This sounds harsh but it's liberating: No one is coming to save you from your eating disorder. No perfect therapist, magic moment, or external circumstance. The beautiful flip: You have everything you need inside you already. You don't need to wait for someone else to fix, validate, or give you permission to heal. You are the one you've been waiting for. Your recovery is your responsibility—and that's your power. LESSON 6: TIME IS YOUR GREATEST CURRENCY Building a business while raising kids taught me: Time is the only thing you can't make more of. I volunteer time for causes I believe in. Invest time in relationships that matter. Spend time on fulfilling work. But I refuse to waste time on: Diet culture Food obsession Body hatred Disorder behaviors Every minute in your eating disorder is a minute you can't spend living your actual life. LESSON 7: HEALING HAPPENS THROUGH ACTION, NOT PERFECTION My kids don't grow in perfect straight lines. Some days they're wise beyond their years, other days they melt down over socks. Recovery is the same. Some days you feel free, others you struggle with old thoughts. The key insight: You can't think your way to recovery. You have to live your way there. I didn't positive-think my way to food freedom. I acted my way there: Ate when I didn't want to Rested when it felt wrong Took up space when I wanted to shrink Your thinking changes to match your actions—not the other way around. LESSON 8: YOUR RECOVERY RIPPLES INTO THE WORLD When you recover loudly, you keep others from dying quietly. Your recovery matters beyond just you: Every woman who realizes she's not alone Every mother who models food freedom for her daughter Every person who chooses life over disorder Share this podcast. Share your story. Recover loudly so others know freedom is possible. THE TRUTH ABOUT LIFE AFTER RECOVERY As I tucked my 8-year-old in last night, he said, "Mom, this was the best birthday ever." I realized—I was fully present. Not calculating cake calories. Not worried about photos. Not planning tomorrow's restriction. That's the truth about life after recovery: You get the gift of being present for your own life. You get to: Show up fully for your kids Build businesses from passion, not perfectionism Love people without keeping score Take up space without apologizing Live without constant internal negotiation KEY QUOTES
The Attorney General says the sentences of three teenage boys who were spared custody over the rape of two girls in Hampshire, will be referred to the Court of Appeal. The boys were given rehabilitation orders by a Judge who said he would avoid "criminalising" them because of their ages. Bereaved parents meet the prime minister to urge him to ban social media for under 16s, as a government consultation on the issue draws to a close. Also: BP removes its chairman. Another record breaking hot May day. And: Part-time pilot becomes conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed an urgent review of a judge's decision not to give custodial sentences to two boys found guilty of raping two girls. He also praised what he described as the "harrowing and brave testimony" of one of the girls, who told the BBC the sentences had made her question whether it was worth giving evidence in court. Also: Donald Trump says US negotiators should not rush into a deal with Iran. And: A heatwave is declared in several parts of southern England.
When Megan Roark first learned to row at 12 years old, she couldn't have known the sport would one day shape not only her athletic identity, but her approach to medicine. Years later, through her training and practice as a naturopathic doctor, Megan has come to appreciate rowing not just for its physical demands, but for its meditative qualities, too. But rowers are famously stubborn: pushing through pain, skipping recovery work, showing up to early practices under-fueled and dehydrated. In this episode, Megan shares a holistic approach to caring for the athlete as a whole for long-term health and performance. We talk about habits for deeper sleep, nutrition and hydration, building a strong “therapeutic alliance” with your doctor, and yes — even why showering matters more than we realize.
