I sängen ligger Demi orörlig. Hang in there okay, we are on our way. I'll let you know when they are outside. You should be hearing the sirens real soon, säger larmoperatören. Wait. No sirens, please, right? No, no, no. This is a medical emergency, I have no control over that. Exekutiv producent Anna Johannessen. Slutmixen är gjord av Fredrik Nilsson. On the show today… Travis Scott has been named in a $750 million lawsuit filed this week by a Houston lawyer on behalf of 125 Astroworld Festival victims, including the family of one man who died. Ten people have now died as a result of the Astroworld Festival tragedy while hundreds were left injured. The first teaser for Meghan Markle's upcoming appearance on The Ellen Show has been released and according to reports, both her team and the Royal Family are bracing for a wave of negative feedback. But there's something about this new interview that leaves her a little bit more protected and it's all to do with the location. And Chrissy Teigen is making headlines for throwing a Squid Game-inspired party for her famous friends, which many have called insensitive and tone deaf given the message behind the hit Netflix show. She's not the only famous face to throw a Squid Game event in recent weeks, but there's a lot more to this complicated discussion than just a pile on. A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin: Earlier this year there was a lot of buzz about this thing called NFTs. These days you know that something's definitely gone more mainstream when it's talked about on The Ellen Show and The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. What are NFTs, these non-fungible tokens? I was curious about the whole thing myself which is why I've asked Kaku, a Taiwan-based DJ to be my guest on this podcast. He's a trailblazer in the NFT space, the first influencer not only from Taiwan but from Asia, to get into the NFT market. I did some research in advance, to prepare for this interview as I do when dealing with a topic that I'm less familiar with. But as you'll hear in the interview, I was learning all about NFTs as Kaku spoke to me. After the interview I did some further research, and re-listened to this interview as part of the editing process. That's when I noticed that each time I listened to the interview, I picked up on something new. If you're really interested in learning more about NFTs, I encourage you to listen to this episode more than once to really understand what's being discussed. Also check out the links to resources and articles that I've included in the Talking Taiwan show notes for this episode. And Kaku gives some great advice on how to understand what NFTs are. One last thing, NFTs present an exciting opportunity but they are still in uncharted territory. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to safeguard your own assets, to do your research, and to protect yourself. Here's a little preview of what we talked about in this podcast episode: Kaku's upbringing and connection to Taiwan How he started DJing How he made DJing a career What he was doing before becoming a DJ How his style is different from other DJs in Asia His early interest in music His early musical interests and influences What it's like being a professional DJ The challenges of being an Asian in the entertainment industry How the pandemic has affected him How Kaku was initially known for making the genre of music called Jersey Club A clip of the Jersey Club genre that Kaku is known for The track PASS OUT by Nitti Gritti & Gaeko (개코) & Kaku An exclusive preview of the new track BLINK by Kaku and Freekill featuring Elle Vee (due to be released in December) How Kaku is the first DJ in Asia who's gotten into the NFT space Origin Protocol Audius 3lau (pronounced: boo-lao), the number one DJ in crypto and NFTs What is an NFT The different ways that NFTs can be used The challenges of protecting your intellectual property in the NFT space How Kaku got interested in NFTs What is blockchain technology? Today we're joined by Mary Datcher (marketing consultant), Leon Rogers (Radio Personality with iHeartMedia) and Bishop Tavis L.Grant II (National Field Director Rainbow PUSH). Is cancel culture a threat to free speech and the freedom to have your own opinion? We dive deep on the case of a recent victim of cancel culture, Dave Chappelle. Dave's most recent Netflix special “The Closer” has sparked controversy due to his comments about the transgender community. We discuss the potential slippery slope for the sanctity of free speech that cancel culture creates when a group cherry pick's what they will be offended by whilst giving comparable ‘offenses' a pass for no apparent reason. This week we are celebrating 2 important dates; November 1st which marks the day that Death Wish 3 hit theaters back in 1985 and November 3rd, 1921 which was the day that Charles Bronson was born. So what better way to celebrate than to get together "3 of the nicest bad guys ever" from Death Wish 3. Alex Winter, Kirk Taylor, and Tony Spiridakis played the roles of "Hermosa", "The Giggler", and "Angel". They talked about their auditions, death scenes, personal experiences with Charles Bronson, Michael Winner, and so much more. This reunion was put together by myself and Chris Rauch who runs the Charles Bronson Twitter account and we thought, "hey let's get these bad guys together," but what we didn't know was that we reunited 3 people who formed a bond on set and haven't seen each other in almost 36 years. It was quite special to see them together again. This is by far the coolest thing we have ever been a part of, enjoy! You can watch the reunion at sequelsonly.com/DW3Reunion Follow Chris's Bronson Twitter @bronsontweets9 Follow Alex Winter on Twitter @Winter Follow Kirk Taylor on Twitter @IamKirkTaylor The next sequel we are reviewing is "Meet the Fockers" and we interviewed Actor Jack Plotnick who had a small, but a hilarious role in the movie. You know Jack from the Ellen Show in the 90s, Jenny McCarthy Show, Rubber, and so much more. Most recently you can see Jack in a lot of guest-starring roles on Z-Nation, Grace and Frankie, Reno 911 Lone Star, and more. This was a great chat. In April of 2019 Brigham Young University valedictorian Matt Easton came out as a faithful gay Mormon during his valedictorian address, which was pre-approved by the LDS Church. Matt's speech received very positive national media attention, including an appearance on the Ellen Show. Matt is currently attending U.C. Berkeley as a Political Science Ph.D. student. Last week, Mormon apostle Jeffrey R. Holland publicly "called out" Matt Easton, accusing him of "commandeering" the 2019 graduation ceremony. His exact words were: "If a student commandeers a graduation podium intended to represent everyone getting diplomas in order to announce his personal sexual orientation, what might another speaker feel free to announce the next year until eventually anything goes? What might commencement come to mean — or not mean — if we push individual license over institutional dignity for very long? Do we simply end up with more divisiveness in our culture than we already have? And we already have too much everywhere." Please join us on August 29, 2021 at 1:30pm Utah time as Matt Easton shares with us his Mormon story, and responds to Elder Holland's irresponsible attacks.
