We are so happy to be able to bring to you our first special guest who has been willing to openly share her experiences with chronic pain and the use of pain medication. This is her experience but so relatable to many people who have been in her position. Pain medication is necessary for a good quality of life for people with chronic pain. They should not be treated as addicts but as patients. It is cruel to leave anyone in pain, it is inhumane. Many people are suffering because of the change in regulations and while the regulations were meant to keep pain killers off the street, it took them from the people who really do need them. We hope to revisit this issue in the future and that people will share their thoughts. We know its a heated topic but something needs to change. We hope you enjoy this episode and we would like to thank Lori for sharing her story. It was brave and we appreciate her so much! She certainly has been through a lot! Disclaimer: The personal experiences we discuss in this episode are from years ago and we are both in a very healthy place today. It's okay to not be okay and there is help available. TRIGGER WARNING: This week we discuss chronic depression and suicide. Because this topic is so emotionally challenging and we share our personal experiences, there will be things that may be very difficult to hear. Please use caution if these themes trigger you in any way. There is also colorful language scattered throughout. We try to keep things clean but during topics like this we dig deep, pull up the courage and sometimes that can be messy. Please leave your comments, suggestions and questions below. We will be posting a list of resources on our social media pages. Please feel free to comment any that you are aware of as well. We can all help each other through the darkest times. You are not alone! If you feel like you or someone you know is in immediate danger, you should call 911 (or your country's local emergency line) or go to an emergency room to get immediate help. Explain that it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for someone who is trained for these kinds of situations. You don't need to be experiencing a crisis to contact a crisis hotline. At most of these hotlines, the volunteers and counselors who answer calls, texts and chat messages are trained to help someone in crisis. But you can also reach out if you're feeling sad, anxious or stressed and don't know where to turn. These hotlines also serve friends, family members and loved ones of someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis, domestic violence, abuse, addiction and many other issues. You can find a full list of these resources on our Facebook page.
