"The general public and even health professionals are not fully aware of the power of our circadian rhythms." - Dr. Leon Lack If you've ever felt tired, foggy, and flared up when the seasons or the clocks change, you are not alone. Light is one of the most powerful signals to the brain, and when your body's internal clock, your circadian rhythm, becomes disrupted, that can influence your energy, pain levels, mood, and focus. For those of us already living with fibro's sensitive nervous system, even small shifts in daylight can have a significant impact. Understanding your circadian rhythm can help you find balance with your energy, sleep quality, and other fibro symptoms. Morning light, evening routines, timing your wake-up, and even the type of light you're exposed to all influence how your body functions. When you understand how they all work together, light can become one of the simplest and most effective fibro-friendly tools for improving sleep, stabilizing your mood, and boosting your energy all year. Today, Tami is excited to be joined by Professor Leon Lack, one of the world's leading experts on sleep, circadian rhythm, and light therapy, to talk about why light affects us so deeply and how light therapy can support you. Dr. Lack is also the co-inventor of the Re-Timer light therapy glasses, one of Tami's favorite things for 2025. In this conversation, they discuss what a circadian rhythm is, how it drives daily sleep and wake patterns, how light exposure shifts the body clock, the effects of social jetlag, inconsistent schedules, and sleep debt on mood, alertness, and pain, why some people are true evening types with delayed sleep phase challenges, how strategies like Tami's Lights Out Sundays can help reset body timing, what studies show about how natural light rapidly resets sleep, why morning light timing matters, how to identify your circadian low point to shift your rhythm more effectively, how light therapy works in cloudy or low-sunlight regions, the evolution from early light boxes to modern wearable devices, how light entering the eyes resets the brain's clock, Tami's experience using Re-Timer glasses, which wavelengths are most effective for shifting the body clock, why consistent morning light matters most, practical steps for shifting your sleep earlier, how winter darkness worsens mood and sleep, why jetlag adjustment varies from person to person, strategies for travel recovery, how evening light therapy can help early risers sleep later, best practices if you tend to sleep in, the risks of driving during circadian lows, why shift work remains so dangerous, and more. Text Dr. Lenz any feedback or questions New Breakthrough: The Neurobiological Basis of Fibromyalgia Pain RevealedAre you or a loved one struggling with widespread pain often dismissed as stress-induced? Dr. Michael Lenz uncovers groundbreaking data showing that such pain is linked to measurable changes in the brain's structure. This episode delves into a massive study involving over 40,000 participants from the UK Biobank, validating the fibromyalgia index (FMI) as a reliable marker for nociplastic pain, especially seen in fibromyalgia. Key findings spotlight the altered structural connectivity within brain regions like the periaqueductal gray and amygdala, elucidating the link between chronic pain and symptoms such as fatigue and depression. Think people pleasing is selfless? Think again. In this raw and unfiltered episode, I'll expose the uncomfortable truth: people pleasing isn't about helping others—it's about YOU. If you've ever said yes when you meant no, overcompensated to avoid someone's discomfort, or gone above and beyond to be seen as "nice," this episode will shake you awake. I share my own journey as a recovering people pleaser—from rubbing Avon lotion on my stepmother's feet at age 9 to building a business around fixing everyone else's problems. I reveal how people pleasing nearly destroyed my health (hello, fibromyalgia) and why your body will eventually reject this behavior. In this episode, you'll discover: 1️⃣ The real reason you say yes when you want to say no (hint: it's not noble) 2️⃣ Why "nice" people are actually liars (and how this damages relationships) 3️⃣ The connection between people pleasing, codependency, and chronic illness 4️⃣ How people pleasing enables others and keeps them from growth 5️⃣ The 24-hour challenge to break the pattern 6️⃣ Why coaches and practitioners MUST address their own people pleasing to truly serve clients This isn't easy to hear, but if you're ready to stop the facade and start living authentically—this episode is your wake-up call. Key Quotes "Nice people are liars. You are lying when you tell me something that's not true to avoid what I might think, say, or feel." "You are doing God's work when you are being yourself—not pretending to be a nice person who is lying to avoid discomfort." "What you control and what controls you will eventually become what you resent." "You cannot have a narcissist in a relationship without the people pleaser. You need each other." Take Action The 24-Hour People Pleasing Detox: For the next 24 hours, commit to: ❌ Not doing anything you don't want to do ✅ Saying "no thank you" without explanation ✅ Being truthful instead of "nice" ✅ Observing your discomfort when someone is disappointed ✅ Standing firm in your decisions For Coaches & Practitioners: Before giving feedback, ask: "Are you open to hearing what I'm observing?" or "I'm curious—would you like to know what I'm witnessing?" Tonix Pharmaceuticals Holdings CEO Dr. Seth Lederman joined Steve Darling from Proactive to announce a major milestone for the company and for patients: TONMYA is now commercially available by prescription at pharmacies across the United States. TONMYA is a first-in-class, non-opioid analgesic designed specifically for adults with fibromyalgia and is taken once nightly at bedtime. Dr. Lederman told Proactive that this marks a transformative moment for the estimated 10 million Americans living with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, sleep disturbance, fatigue, and impaired quality of life. TONMYA offers a novel therapeutic option that directly targets the condition's core, debilitating symptom—chronic pain—while also showing positive effects on associated symptoms. The commercial launch follows a substantial clinical development program, including the recently published RESILIENT Phase 3 trial in Pain Medicine. The study evaluated TONMYA on primary endpoints measuring pain reduction and secondary endpoints assessing overall patient-reported improvement, symptom severity, sleep quality, functional impact, and fatigue. The published findings reinforce TONMYA's role as a meaningful new option in a field where therapeutic advances have been limited. Regulatory approval incorporated efficacy and safety results from two double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 3 trials involving nearly 1,000 patients. In both studies, TONMYA demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in daily pain scores at 14 weeks, meeting the primary endpoint. A higher proportion of patients receiving TONMYA also achieved clinically meaningful pain improvement after three months compared with placebo, underscoring its real-world therapeutic relevance. With its U.S. pharmacy availability now in place, TONMYA becomes a first-in-class, non-opioid option designed to address the multi-dimensional burden of fibromyalgia—and represents a significant step forward for patients seeking relief and improved daily functioning. #proactiveinvestors #tonixpharmaceuticalsholdingcorp #nasdaq #tnxp #Biotech #Tnx-1500 #transplant #kidneydisease #massachusettsgeneralhospital #massgeneral #VaccineDevelopment #ClinicalTrials #PharmaceuticalNews #MedicalResearch #WHO #GlobalHealth #InfectiousDiseases #Biopharma #ProactiveInvestors
Join Dr. Pinkston and her esteemed guest, pharmacist and expert on anti-aging and metabolic health, Jim LaValle, as they dive into the science and benefits of Red Light Therapy, also known as photobiomodulation. They discuss how this non-invasive therapy works by utilizing specific wavelengths of light—ideally in the mid-600s and mid-800s—to stimulate collagen synthesis (for improved skin and anti-aging), boost nitric oxide production (for better circulation), and enhance ATP production (for increased cellular energy and mitochondrial health). LaValle explains how the different wavelengths penetrate tissues, with the shorter waves targeting the skin and the longer, near-infrared waves (800s) penetrating deeper to help with inflammation, muscle soreness, and overall cellular repair. The discussion also covers: Optimal usage (timing and frequency) and best forms (whole-body beds/blankets vs. panels/masks). Potential benefits for conditions like fibromyalgia, post-exercise recovery, and skin issues like psoriasis. Crucial supplements to combine with red light therapy for maximized benefits, including NAD+ boosters (like Nicotinamide Riboside), CoQ10, Magnesium, collagen peptides (with Vitamin C), and Methylene Blue (USP grade). Important warnings, especially regarding photosensitizing medications and pre-existing conditions. New diagnostic tests, like the MeeScreen, for assessing mitochondrial health. "Fibromyalgia can take a lot from us, but it doesn't have to take everything." - Tami Stackelhouse One of the hardest parts of living with fibromyalgia is how much joy can quietly disappear from your life. Activities you used to love start feeling out of reach and even simple things like going out with friends or spending time on a hobby can feel too draining. Over time, it's easy to lose sight of what brings you happiness when most of your energy is going toward managing your pain and getting through the day. But joy is not something you "earn" once you feel better. Joy is part of what helps you feel better. It plays an essential role in calming your nervous system, lowering pain levels, and helping your body shift out of constant survival mode. When fibromyalgia makes your world smaller, joy often feels like the first thing to go, but it's actually one of the most powerful tools you have for healing. The good news is that joy doesn't need to be big or complicated. It just needs to be intentional. In this episode, Tami walks you through her Joy List exercise, a simple and meaningful practice to help you identify personal sources of joy. She talks about how fibromyalgia can lead to a loss of hobbies, work, and social connection, the emotional weight that follows these changes, the biology of joy, how dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin support pain relief and healing, three reflective questions to help you rediscover what brings happiness and meaning, practical tips for creating your Joy List, why certain activities bring joy and how to adapt them in new ways, accepting that joy may look different now and that change is part of healing, focusing on the feeling of joy rather than trying to recreate past experiences, finding new forms of joy through creativity and flexibility, six simple ways to add joy into your daily life, reframing your understanding of joy as a muscle, why reconnecting with joy is crucial for managing fibromyalgia, why now is the best time to start or revisit your personal joy list, supportive resources you can utilize on your journey of rediscovering joy, knowing when to seek help from a coach or community, and more. Remember, the parts of you that feel lost are still there, waiting for you to reach for them again. Note: This episode is not meant to be medical advice. Every person and every situation is unique. Dr. Jen Pfleghaar joins me today to break down why your menstrual cycle is actually the key to optimizing your workouts, timing your nutrition, and finally making progress with stubborn weight loss. As an emergency medicine physician who transitioned to integrative medicine after reversing her own Hashimoto's, Dr. Jen brings both clinical expertise and real-world experience. She explains why the "hustle harder" mentality works for men but can backfire for women, especially during perimenopause. You'll learn why your stress resistance changes throughout your cycle, why daily intermittent fasting might sabotage your goals, and how to time everything from HIIT workouts to longer fasts. We also dive into why every woman needs to lift weights and red flags about hormone advice on social media. If what used to work isn't working anymore, this episode gives you a new framework for working with your body's rhythms. The biggest hormone myth is finally being debunked, and it's kept millions of women suffering needlessly. I'm talking with Dr. Deb Matthew about the shocking truth: estrogen actually protects against breast cancer, with studies showing a 24% reduction in risk. For 20 years, women have been denied hormone support based on a completely misinterpreted study. We dive deep into how hormone imbalances fuel autoimmune conditions, why your doctor might still be afraid to help you, and what you need to know to advocate for yourself. If you've been told you're "too young" or "too old" for hormones, or that feeling exhausted and irritable is just "normal aging," this conversation could change everything. You deserve to feel resilient, not depleted. For the complete show notes, links and transcript visit inspiredliving.show/216

As you eliminate trigger foods discussed in this episode, Berberine and Liver Boost supports liver detoxification, helps regulate blood sugar, and reduces inflammation—essential for managing fibromyalgia symptoms. This promotion ends tomorrow! Get yours at https://berberineandliverboost.mswnutrition.com/ EPISODE SUMMARY Struggling with fibromyalgia? What you eat matters. In this episode, Nurse Doza reveals five common trigger foods that worsen fibromyalgia symptoms including chronic pain, fatigue, and brain fog. Learn why processed sugars, dairy, refined oils, nightshade vegetables, and legumes create inflammation in your nervous system, and discover healthier alternatives that support your body instead of harming it. Transform your fibromyalgia management through dietary changes. 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS Processed Sugar and Carbs Fuel Inflammation – MSG and aspartame found in processed foods directly trigger fibromyalgia flare-ups by increasing nervous system inflammation. Swap these for whole fruits, sweet potatoes, and raw cane sugar with cinnamon. Dairy Creates Digestive Inflammation – Casein in dairy products causes gut inflammation that worsens fibromyalgia symptoms. Replace with coconut milk, almond milk, and ghee as healthier alternatives. Refined Vegetable Oils Are Hidden Inflammatory Triggers – Canola, soybean, and corn oils are highly inflammatory. Switch to avocado oil, olive oil, and grass-fed butter for cooking and dressing. Nightshade Vegetables Contain Harmful Lectins – Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and mushrooms have anti-nutrients that damage your digestive tract and block mineral absorption. Choose cruciferous vegetables like broccoli instead. Legumes May Worsen Gut Health – Beans, lentils, chickpeas, and peanuts contain lectins that create digestive inflammation and gas. If you can't eliminate them, soak or boil them to reduce lectin content, or choose sauerkraut for fiber. Ever wonder why you can't stop craving sugar and carbs no matter how hard you try? It's not about willpower; it's about the wrong bacteria controlling your gut. Paul Barattiero, founder of Echo Water and pioneer in hydrogen therapy, reveals the shocking truth behind those relentless food cravings. Your gut should naturally produce 10-12 liters of hydrogen gas daily through proper fermentation, but most of us are nowhere near that. In this conversation, Paul shares how he accidentally discovered hydrogen water while desperately trying to heal his wife's severe health issues. What he found changed everything: 96% of your gut bacteria need a specific electrical environment to thrive, and when they don't get it, the wrong bacteria take over - literally controlling what you crave. I dive deep into the science behind why your microbiome needs negative electrical potential, how hydrogen water creates the perfect terrain for healing, and why you might finally be able to eat foods you've been avoiding for years. This isn't another wellness trend… We're talking about 1,500+ studies and real solutions for chronic inflammation and autoimmunity! For the complete show notes, links and transcripts visit inspiredliving.show/215

Have you ever wished people could truly understand what fibromyalgia feels like, or what it's like to live with a condition that never really goes away? You are not alone. Explaining fibromyalgia to the people you love is one of the hardest parts of living with an invisible illness. From the outside, you might look perfectly fine, but inside, you feel like you've been run over by a truck. It's even harder when your symptoms change from day to day. You might manage errands or a social event one day and need to rest the next, leaving people confused or questioning what's going on. Trying to explain that experience to someone who has never experienced chronic pain feels impossible. Today, Tami is sharing tools you can use to make these difficult conversations a little easier without wearing yourself out in the process. Using the right strategies and language can make a world of difference. Whether it's a simple analogy, a short story that captures the daily challenges, or setting clear boundaries around what you can and can't explain, these conversations can make all the difference in whether you feel supported or alone. In this episode, Tami shares why fibromyalgia is so hard to explain, how its invisibility, fluctuating symptoms, and emotional weight affect daily life, simple, relatable analogies others without chronic pain can relate to, the power of using tactile demonstrations to show pain and sensitivity, the Spoon Theory and other analogies to explain daily limits, sharing books and other media to educate others, how you can use stealth tactics to help your loved ones understand what you're experiencing, understanding the three circles of trust, setting boundaries and learning to say no without guilt, resources that help with explaining fibromyalgia to children, how growing up with a family member with a chronic illness can teach empathy and resilience, choosing the right time and place to have these fibro conversations, accepting imperfect help and building a supportive team, why you need to create a flare survival plan, how professionals and coaches can help to improve your quality of life, and more. Dr. Jacko now runs a comprehensive wellness clinic proving that lifestyle medicine works better than pills for chronic conditions. Barb from Canada shares her 26-year journey with fibromyalgia, which began with chronic pain and a lengthy struggle for a diagnosis. Initially, she explored various treatments, including conventional medications like Oxycontin and alternative therapies, but found limited relief. After learning about Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) from the fibromyalgia community, she sought a doctor willing to prescribe it. After changing family doctors, Barb encountered a new physician who did not believe in fibromyalgia and refused to prescribe LDN. However, through the LDN Research Trust, she found a supportive doctor who offered remote consultations. Since starting LDN in April, Barb experienced remarkable improvements in energy and quality of life within three weeks, allowing her to engage in activities she had long avoided. Her transformation has surprised both her and her family, leading others to inquire about her treatment.
Hey, friends! It's your Coach, Tami Stackelhouse, with some exciting news.
In this episode of Growing Older Living Younger, Dr. Gillian Lockitch speaks with Dr. Bruce Gillis about chronic immune system disorders such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, interstitial cystitis, and long COVID. Dr. Gillis shares how his research overturned decades of stigma by proving these conditions are objectively measurable through immune system testing and DNA genomic signatures. The conversation explores the role of epigenetics in disease development, the link between coronaviruses and long COVID, and the discovery of a microbiome-modulating compound that reduces symptoms. Listeners will gain validation, clarity, and practical insights into how accurate diagnosis and targeted therapies can improve quality of life. Dr. Bruce Gillis is a physician-scientist and public health expert whose career spans clinical medicine, research, and academic leadership. After earning his MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health, he completed two residencies and two fellowships before joining the faculty at Harvard Medical School, UCLA, and the University of Illinois. His early work focused on environmental health and toxic exposures, including oversight of the Alaskan oil spill cleanup and aerospace medicine projects. Dr. Gillis later turned his focus to chronic immune system disorders such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, interstitial cystitis, and long COVID. Through groundbreaking research, his team identified specific white blood cell dysfunctions and unique DNA genomic signatures that objectively prove fibromyalgia and related disorders are real, diagnosable conditions. He pioneered the development of the FibroTest, an FDA-reviewed diagnostic blood test now covered by Medicare and many insurers, and continues to study therapeutic compounds that support microbiome health and improve symptom management. Episode Timeline 00:00 – Welcome & Introduction Podcast focus on aging youthfully; Gillian introduces Dr. Gillis and chronic immune disorders. 05:51 – Dr. Gillis' Journey From rural upbringing to Harvard MD/MPH; work in environmental health, aerospace, and proving fibromyalgia is real. 08:44 – What Are Chronic Immune Disorders? Why You Should Listen: In this episode, you will learn about the latest approaches to healing your body from mold toxicity, Lyme disease, and other complex, chronic health conditions. About My Guest: My guest for this episode is Dr. Neil Nathan. Neil Nathan, MD has been practicing medicine for over 50 years and has been Board Certified in Family Practice and Pain Management and is a Founding Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine and a Founding Diplomate of ISEAI. He has written several books, including "Healing is Possible: New Hope for Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Persistent Pain, and Other Chronic Illnesses" and "On Hope and Healing: For Those Who Have Fallen Through the Medical Cracks." He has been working to bring an awareness that mold toxicity is a major contributing factor for patients with chronic illness and lectures internationally on this subject which led to the publication of his eBook, "Mold and Mycotoxins: Current Evaluation and Treatment, 2016" (now updated to 2022), and then to his best-selling book "Toxic: Heal Your Body from Mold Toxicity, Lyme Disease, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities and Chronic Environmental Illness." 2021 saw the publication of "Energetic Diagnosis," a discussion of the value of intuition and energetic devices as an aid to both diagnosis and treatment of medical illness. In 2024, his book "The Sensitive Patient's Healing Guide" was released with a focus on how to approach the treatment of sensitive patients. And most recently, in late 2025, the second edition of his book "Toxic" was released with several years of new information and insights on healing from complex chronic conditions. Dr. Nathan has been treating chronic complex medical illnesses for 30 years now, and Lyme disease for the past 20 years. As his practice has evolved, he finds himself increasingly treating the patients who have become so sensitive and toxic that they can no longer tolerate their usual treatments, and his major current interest is in finding unique ways of helping them to recover.
