In this episode of Post Concert Depression, Jessica Nelson sits down with Braden Bales to explore the intimate connection between artistry and mental health. Braden opens up about the delicate balance of being transparent in his music while setting boundaries around emotions and experiences he's not ready to share. He dives into his pre-show rituals, the unique pressures of touring, and the challenges of sickness, equipment mishaps, and post-tour emotional crashes. Braden candidly shares the ways he copes with mental health struggles, from finding solace in songwriting to relying on the support of family, while acknowledging he's still learning what truly works for him. Braden's latest EP, 5 STAGES OF GRIEF (released in June), reflects his journey of processing emotions and finding resilience through music. This episode is a heartfelt conversation for fans, artists, and anyone navigating the ups and downs of life — a reminder that your feelings are valid, your love for music is powerful, and you're never alone.

EPISODE 8: The Stages of Grief: Denial Dying Laughing with Jessimae Peluso We're kicking off the first stage of grief...Denial. You know… that magical headspace where you tell yourself everything's fine, even when your 15-year-old dog is basically applying for Social Security. In this episode of Dying Laughing, I share how denial has shown up in my life (spoiler: a lot), why dogs are little time capsules, and I read submissions about the funniest, most relatable, and most painfully human ways people and their families have lived in denial. From pretending a breakup was “just a break” to ignoring that Grandma's wig was on backwards at the funeral this one's honest, hilarious, and maybe a little too real.

EPISODE 5: The Stages of GriefPodcast: Dying Laughing with Jessimae Peluso In this episode, I'm diving into the five stages of grief or as I like to call them, the emotional group chat from hell. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance sound great on paper... but in real life? They're messy, unpredictable, and rarely show up in order. I'm sharing how each stage actually unfolded for me, with stories pulled from my Grief Survival Guide mini-series on Sharp Tongue, plus a fresh take on what it really means to “process” loss. I also unpack the difference between the classic five stages and the newer seven-stage model, and explain why grief doesn't follow a rulebook it follows you, sometimes in sweatpants. Whether you're deep in denial or mad at a bird (been there), this episode is here to help you feel seen, heard, and hopefully a little less alone. Thanks for supporting this show and this beautiful, messy grief community. Your support means I get to keep laughing through the sad stuff and help you do the same. In this episode of the Feel Free Again Podcast, I sit down with Brian Magee, an accomplished grief recovery specialist and former funeral director from Alberta, Canada. Brian shares openly about his journey—from facing significant personal losses to discovering the profound impact of the Grief Recovery Method. Together, we delve deeply into how grief manifests beyond death, exploring its wide-ranging impact on life's significant changes and transitions. Our conversation also highlights Brian's innovative approach to integrating grief recovery support within the funeral home setting. We discuss the challenges faced by funeral directors and the hesitations many funeral homes have around adopting new grief support programs. Brian provides invaluable insights into how effective aftercare not only meets a crucial emotional need in the community but also greatly enhances the reputation and relational bonds of the funeral home within its community. We further address common misconceptions around grief, critically examining the well-known five stages of grief proposed by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, and discuss why a practical, emotionally-driven method often surpasses intellectual approaches in truly helping people heal. This episode emphasizes a clear message: unresolved grief requires active emotional processing, and Brian's insights offer powerful guidance on how to achieve emotional completion and healing.

Grief is a deeply personal and often messy journey—one that isn't confined to the loss of a loved one. It can stem from the end of a relationship, career changes, health challenges, or even letting go of a version of ourselves. And with everything happening currently in the world, aren't we all just living with grief at this point?? In this episode, we deep dive into the 7 Stages of Grief and take a real and honest look at how they may show up in any of our lives. While grief is unique to each individual, the common “stages” most of us  find ourselves moving through draw from Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's groundbreaking work, On Death and Dying, which introduced the now-famous “Stages of Grief.” These stages, though insightful, have been both widely taught and criticized over the years- I'll spill the tea on what her critics say too! We'll talk through the expanded “7 stages of grief”—Shock, Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Testing, and Acceptance—highlighting their value as a flexible framework rather than a strict GPS roadmap.Even though grief can be a challenging subject to talk about, it happens to be one of the things that connects us as human beings. A common thread of our human experience. It is one of those threads of shared humanity that connects us all. Show notes:Sources: “Stages of Grief”: Attributed to: Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. in her 1969 book, On Death and Dying.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK507885/https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0030222817691870https://www.health.com/stages-of-grief-7482658

How do you move from feeling stuck to finding meaning and healing in your grief? In today's episode, I'm honored to speak with David Kessler, one of the world's foremost experts on grief and the author who expanded Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's original five stages of grief by adding a sixth stage: meaning. We explore how common reactions like avoidance, blame, and bargaining are a normal part of the grieving process, and how finding meaning can be a transformative step toward healing. Whether you're grieving a loss or supporting someone who is, this conversation will help you better understand the continuum of grief and the power of creating meaning. Here's what we cover: * The 5 stages of grief and how different parts of us experience loss * David's 6th stage of grief and how it developed out of his own story * The most important question to ask someone who is grieving * David's 7 guidelines for creating meaning after loss * Why grief is intimately linked to joy Have a question for Dr. Alison? In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger, FCAH, RBHT, speaks with Samantha Bailey about navigating the journey of healing after betrayal, embracing forgiveness, and finding purpose through resilience. For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/samantha-bailey        Highlights from today's episode include: Samantha Bailey  you know, he was so amazing to me and treated me wonderful. And when I started my healing journey, I realized that there were many signs. But when you trust someone completely, you don't, you're not looking for anything, so you take them at their word Samantha Bailey  It was like someone threw a grenade into my heart and it exploded, and the enemy was my husband, who, again, was supposed to be there to protect me and love me and that wasn't the case.  Manon Bolliger  11:58 So, it really is about acknowledging what happened and moving forward. I mean, not avoiding the feelings that you would go through, but not kind of roasting in them, basically.   ABOUT SAMANTHA BAILEY: Born and raised in Canada, I moved to Texas in the early 90s, making it my permanent home. As a mother of six and grandmother of four, my life has been centered around nurturing and supporting others, a theme that carried into my professional life. I thrived in roles that allowed me to make a positive impact on people, focusing on empathy, understanding, and service. However, my world was turned upside down when I uncovered traumatic truths about my marriage. Learning of my husband's hidden world—sugar babies, escorts, and numerous affairs—left me feeling shattered, lost, and utterly alone. In that darkness, I found myself in need of the very support I had always offered others. Journaling became my refuge, a place to pour out my pain and begin to heal. This journey ultimately led to the creation of my book, Deceptive Liaisons, written as a survival guide for anyone experiencing similar struggles, hoping to bring them solace and strength. I am also currently training to become a Certified PBT Coach (Post Betrayal Transformation) to deepen my understanding and enhance my ability to help others. Betrayal trauma, whether in personal relationships, friendships, or family, can feel overwhelming and isolating. I am passionate about guiding others through the process, offering them the tools, support, and hope they need to heal. In my book, I offer insights on crucial first steps after betrayal, focusing on self-care and emotional safety. I also cover common mistakes that can hinder healing, sharing guidance to avoid actions that might prolong the pain. Having survived betrayal myself, I believe in the power of resilience, and my mission is to help others not just survive, but rebuild and ultimately thrive. Core purpose/passion: My mission is to empower those who have faced betrayal and trauma by sharing my own journey of healing and resilience. Through my story, I hope to offer guidance and support for anyone navigating their darkest moments, helping them find the strength to rebuild their lives and emerge stronger. I'm dedicated to fostering a community of understanding and courage, reminding each person that no matter how broken they may feel, they have the power to rise and thrive. What happens when Ohio State fans grapple with the harsh sting of a rivalry disappointment, coupled with a rollercoaster of emotions and comedic banter? We kick things off by diving into the aftermath of Ohio State's devastating loss to Michigan, which left us questioning everything from the play calling to conspiracy theories about the kicker's performance. With humor and frustration, we analyze the baffling decisions and ponder if the attempts to out-tough Michigan were misguided. This isn't just about a game; it's about questioning leadership, especially that of coach Ryan Day and debating the intense sportsmanship surrounding college football rivalries. As lifelong fans, we don't shy away from voicing our skepticism and engaging in a spirited discussion about leadership during key moments, including a notorious flag-planting incident. We pull no punches as we recall historical antics and express our desire for a more spirited defense of team pride. Between passionate debates, we lighten the mood with embarrassing family stories and holiday spirit, sharing a fun call with my mom in Texas. From childhood antics to scooter adventures at Walmart, laughter is guaranteed as we navigate the ups and downs of fandom and family life. Finally, we transition to a broader cultural and economic discourse, critiquing the disparities in income distribution and corporate practices, while expressing excitement for the "Wicked" musical adaptation. Whether you're tuning in for the sports analysis, the comedic banter, or the cultural discussions, this episode promises a compelling exploration of emotions, insights, and laughs. From the challenges of Ohio State football to the magic of musicals, our episode offers something for everyone ready to join the journey.Send us a text message and let us know how awesome we are! In this episode of the Tactical Living Podcast, hosted by Coach Ashlie Walton and Sergeant Clint Walton, we delve into the powerful concept of stress loops and the long-term impact unresolved stress can have on your body and mind. Research shows that one stressful event can trigger the production of stress hormones in your body for up to six hours afterward—and many of us experience far more than just one stressful event in a day. In today's society, we are taught to suppress our emotions and hold it all together, but doing so creates what we call ""emotional constipation."" In this episode, we discuss the dangers of not completing the stress cycle and offer practical ways to process your stress in a healthy way. Understanding the Stress Loop: When we experience stress, our body is wired to feel it to completion. But in today's world, where any emotion outside of ""neutral"" or ""happy"" is often deemed inappropriate, we bury our stress and move on without resolving it. We'll explain what a stress loop is and why it's essential to close it for your overall health. The Consequences of Unresolved Stress: From emotional to physical constipation, we'll explore how bottling up stress can lead to both mental and physical health issues. The longer the stress remains unresolved, the more it impacts your body, potentially leading to burnout, chronic fatigue, and even illness. How Stress Manifests in the Body (Amazon Affiliate): We'll discuss how unresolved stress can leave your body stuck in a constant state of fight or flight. When the stress loop isn't closed, your body continues to pump out stress hormones, leading to long-term anxiety, tension, and even digestive problems. Why Animals Close the Loop and Humans Don't: In the wild, animals instinctively shake after escaping a predator, which helps them complete the stress loop. Humans, however, often suppress these instincts due to societal pressures. We'll explore why this is harmful and how we can learn from nature's stress management techniques. Five Practical Ways to Close the Stress Loop: Movement: Physical movement is one of the most effective ways to process stress. Whether it's a workout, yoga, or simply shaking out your body, moving helps release pent-up tension. Deep Breathing: Controlled breathing techniques can help signal to your nervous system that it's safe to relax, allowing you to complete the stress response. Express Your Emotions: Don't be afraid to scream into a pillow, cry, or vent to someone you trust. Allowing yourself to feel the emotion fully is crucial to processing it. Mindfulness Practices: Meditation, visualization, or progressive muscle relaxation can help calm your nervous system and complete the stress loop. Creative Expression: Sometimes writing, drawing, or engaging in a hobby can help you express and release emotions that are stuck, allowing you to resolve stress in a healthy way. Join us as we explore how unresolved stress affects your body and mind, and provide you with actionable strategies to help you close your stress loops. Whether you're dealing with the daily demands of life as a first responder or simply trying to manage everyday stress, this episode is packed with valuable insights to help you find relief and balance. Today's topic is something that we as humans have all experienced, and that topic is grief. We'll be zeroing in on understanding and expanding on the five stages of grief, knowing that this is a complex topic, and there are ongoing studies into it. Overall, Grief is a profound emotional response to loss, any type of loss, whether due to death, divorce, change in career or other significant life changes. The basic model of five stages was developed by Elizabeth Kubler Ross and it is instrumental in shaping both clinical practices and a popular understanding of the grieving process, despite its widespread acceptance, recent research and perspectives offer other insights that broaden our understanding of how individuals experience and navigate grief. This episode aims to define and expand on the stages of grief, looking at both this traditional viewpoint and also some more contemporary viewpoints. As with last episode's interview with Deb and processing grief, we can combine that with our knowledge of the different models of grief and be empathic, understanding and flexible in helping our friends and family through this difficult process. So call in understanding, call in tailoring approaches to specific needs. Call in the absence of a timeline and timing your own grief process or others. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. Almost everyone has heard about the five stages of grief. However, these 5 stages were first proposed in 1969, which is why many people question their relevance in today's world. Plus, despite their popularity, grief researchers have continuously demonstrated that everyone handles grief in their own distinct way. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, the creator of the 5 stages of grief, herself said it was never meant to be prescriptive; it was meant to be descriptive. So why are people still following a framework that is obviously not correct? In this episode, we'll talk about the five stages of grief and the controversy around them. We'll also discuss frameworks to help you explore your emotions the best way you see fit after the passing of a loved one. Eve SelisTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Eve Selis. Known as 'The Queen of Roadhouse Rock"; I sat down with Eve to chat about her career, and her new album. In this episode, we discuss her early life as a young musician, and even how she got to have 'Eve Selis Day' in San Diego. She shares some pretty scary cancer stories, which is how she ended up in Nashville, and we discuss how art and trauma are tied to each other. I ask her about some of her previous projects, including Cactus Honey, King's Road, & 3 of Hearts. Finally, we get into her newest album called 'Dark Sky Blue'. Eve shares some of the traumatic events that influenced the songs on this album, and she even lets me play my favorite track from it. Dark Sky Blue is about unconditional love, loss, and the stages of grief. Eve explains all of that, and touches on some of those tragic events; and gives maybe the best answer ever to the age old question "Who is this record for?" Finally, she shares the story of a bald eagle landing on her head during a live performance, and her performing at Abbey Road Studios! Follow Eve everywhere on social media, and be inspired by the vulnerability of her music.
