I had such an insightful interview this past Tuesday with Neel Nanda. After I made him an atrocious unsweetened coconut milk latte, we got to chatting. In this interview we cover headlining and selling out, finding your niche audience, getting on TV without an agent, transitioning out of open mics and into shows, and MUCH MORE. This interview is jam packed with incredibly helpful content. Bio: Starting comedy in Atlanta, GA and now based in Los Angeles, Neel Nanda has performed all over the country with some of comedies’ biggest acts. Neel has most recently performed stand up on ABC's JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE & has acted and performed on COMEDY CENTRAL's ADAM DEVINE'S HOUSE PARTY. In 2018 he was a featured comedian on AMAZON PRIME’S INSIDE JOKE with Asif Ali. Neel has also made notable appearances on MTV and on IFC's GARKUNKEL AND OATES SHOW. Other networks where you can catch his stand up comedy include HULU's COMING TO THE STAGE, & several episodes of the series FLOPHOUSE for VICELAND directed by Lance Bangs. Neel recently featured at Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, the Laughing Skull Festival in Atlanta and was the runner up for the Westside Stand Up Showdown (2015) in Los Angeles. Aside from just performing standup, he currently produces a few shows in LA including "Unnecessary Evil" at the Westside Comedy Theater, which was recently named one of LA Weekly’s top 10 stand up shows. You can catch Neel every week at his show on the Westside where he has shared the stage with comedians like Hannibal Buress, Demetri Martin, Laura Kightlinger, and even Yakov Smirnoff.

Toshi Yanagi is an in-house band member of ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live", playing guitar as well as one of the characters in the show. He also plays a monthly performance with his band Shogun Warrior at The Baked Potato in Los Angeles. There is no better place to feel Toshi's standout guitar to its fullest than at this live venue! Toshi grew up in a family of music. Something he would describe as a blessing, but also an environment of high pressure that was centered around Classical music. The problem was that Toshi never really cared for Classical music. As a young man growing up in Japan, he fell in love with rock music and moved to the U.S. to pursue that passion. He landed in San Fransisco and quickly learned the difficulties of having to deal with a language barrier. But while this was a struggle at times, the ability to be a musician was comforting for him and gave him a language that everybody could understand. Toshi used the language of his guitar, and it lead him to LA where he went to school and eventually worked his way into a successful music career. The truth is that the music industry is tough, a professor even once told him that it would take 10 years to find stable work. Something that Toshi didn't pay much attention to back then, but looking back realizes how true those words may have been. It did take a long time, and it wasn't easy. But it was something he loved to do, and the journey was successful because of that fact.    Find Toshi Online: Website - http://www.toshiyanagimusic.net/ Facebook - @ToshiYanagiMusic Instagram - @toshiyanagimusic Twitter - @Toshi_Yanagi   Some Questions I Ask: Do you think it’s important to teach kids music in a certain type of way? TOSHI YANAGI came to America with no English skills and nowhere to stay. But he had a dream. Now, he is the house guitarist on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live, and has released stellar solo albums under his own name, and his dream of becoming a pro musician has been realized. On this episode, Toshi visit's host Jude Gold's house, bringing with him a killer pedalboard full of sounds, and the pair jam on a variety of grooves. Toshi also recalls funny skits he has filmed with Kimmel and remembers how when he first arrived in California in the late '80s, the late Johnny Nitro "opened a door for him" — which is ironic, because Nitro's band was called the Doorslammers.
