As the academic year gets underway, a growing number of U.S. states have enacted laws banning or restricting cell phone use in schools. 17 states and Washington, D.C. implemented new rules this year, joining several other states with existing restrictions. Scores of school districts and individual schools have also enacted their own policies. These laws range from incentives for schools to curtail phone use to prohibitions only in classrooms to outright bans for the entire school day, with different rules for different age groups. On Saturday, Romania said that it had detected a Russian drone in its airspace during an air patrol mission. The Romanian military authorized its pilots to shoot down the drone, but they declined to do so due to potential “collateral risks.” The incident marks the second Russian incursion into a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) country's airspace this month; on Wednesday, NATO warplanes shot down several Russian drones over Poland, prompting Poland to invoke Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. Russia has claimed that the violations were unintentional, but many European leaders have said the incidents have increased the chances of open conflict with Russia. In this episode, we welcome the internationally acclaimed educator and writer, Didi Pershouse [https://didipershouse.substack.com/], as she discusses the urgent need for rehydrating California. With her expertise from the Land and Leadership initiative and the Wisdom Underground podcast, Didi shares actionable insights on restoring the hydrological cycle and soil health. Join us as we explore the interconnectedness of water, climate, and biodiversity, and discover how local actions can lead to significant environmental change. We have much to learn about how to respect, honor and reciprocate life to water in our daily lives and in our times. While water is abundant, we have in a short amount of time created scarcity. We can change that. It starts with us, our behaviors, our thoughts & intentions, our actions. Can We Rehydrate CA is a multi-stakeholder initiative tapping into the ingenuity of human and natural communities with the goal of creating conditions in which the soil sponge regenerates, a fully functional water cycle is restored, and more people are involved in asking (and answering) questions about water. Rehydration would reduce wildfires, raise the water table, improve water (and air) quality, lengthen the green growing season, moderate air temperatures and restore biodiversity. May — who faces 10 federal charges of distributing child sexual abuse materials — is that kind of guy. Just ask his father, whose post-arrest advice to May was “Humility, Robert John. You've got to have humility in all this.”  But is RJ May truly representing himself? Or is he getting behind-the-scenes help from friends?  On today's episode, Mandy and Liz share RJ May's texts and phone calls from Edgefield County Detention Center, and piece together why they think RJ fired his public defense team in favor of his own skills … as a non-lawyer.  Are the same people who stood by RJ after the raid on his house still standing by him now? The visually stunning Margam Castle is located in Margam, Wales and while the 269,000 square foot structure resembles a castle, it really is technically just a country house. A very large country house. The reason it is referred to as a castle though is because it was made to look like a castle complete with an octagonal tower, turrets and battlements. While this was never a fortification, there are hill forts that dot the landscape, as do burial cairns. And what really makes this site remarkable is the nearby Margam Abbey, which lies in partial ruins. There are several spirits that call the castle home. Join us for the history and hauntings of Margam Castle. This Month in History features The Battle of Sedan. Our location was suggested by listener Lyn Beasley. What if the key to success isn't more followers but more influence? And how do you find creators who actually drive results? Jason Falls, an expert in influence marketing and social listening, explains why shifting focus from influencers to influence leads to stronger outcomes. Jason emphasizes investing in long-term partnerships with micro-influencers, relying on creative directors for compelling content, and using social listening tools to spot overlooked opportunities. He illustrates these strategies through campaigns with VisitLEX, GE, and a bourbon brand, showing how creativity, consistency, and insight can turn marketing into meaningful engagement. In this episode of the Inspired Insider Podcast, Dr. Jeremy Weisz interviews Jason Falls, Chief Strategy Officer of Falls+Partners, about rethinking influencer marketing. Jason discusses building authentic influence strategies, lessons from viral content, and the value of social listening. He also explores mistakes brands make in influencer campaigns, the power of micro-influencers, and why creativity drives better results.

On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that nonfarm payroll employment increased by 22,000 in August, while the unemployment rate rose from 4.2% to 4.3%. The healthcare sector accounted for roughly 31,000 new jobs, but declining employment in the federal government, manufacturing, and professional services offset some of those gains; the BLS also revised June's employment numbers down by 27,000 and July's numbers up by 6,000. Separately, on Tuesday, the BLS reported that the U.S. added 911,000 fewer jobs between March 2024 and March 2025 than previously estimated, adding to concerns about the health of the job market.
