Filmmaker Lynette Wallworth on how nearly dying as a little girl set her on a lifelong path to interrogate out-of-body experiences, spirituality and what really happens to us when we die. When Lynette was a little girl, she had a near death experience on her grandparents' property. Her father brought her back from the brink and what she saw and experienced there, on the edge of death, came back with her.For years, Lynette struggled to talk about what happened so she made paintings and artworks trying to make sense of this experience. But when she started visiting remote Indigenous communities here in Australia and abroad, in the Amazon, that she finally found some sort of language for describing the scientifically unprovable. There, in cultures where out of body experiences are accepted as either spiritual or possible through the use of psychedelic drugs like psilocybin and ayahuasca, Lynette stopped feeling weird. Her latest film investigates how doctors in Melbourne are turning to psychedelic drugs to help ease their terminally ill patients towards death, and in the process learn that "we weren't put on earth to run around in fear".Edge of Life will be available to stream on Binge from 28 March.Currently, you can watch it via Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Fetch and YouTube. You can find more information about Lynette and her films at her website. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggie Morris. Thistle Hill House is also known as the Wharton-Scott House and was built back in the early 1900s in Fort Worth, Texas. This historic mansion goes back to the cattle baron era of the city and indeed, it was home to a cattle baron's daughter. This is a gorgeous and unique home, so its not surprising that previous owners would stick around even after passing away. Join us for the history and hauntings of the Thistle Hill House. On Tuesday, in his State of the Union address, President Donald Trump called on Congress to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act (SITA), a bill that would bar members of Congress and some immediate family members from trading individual stocks. The line led to one of the few instances of bipartisan applause during Trump's speech, and the president's reference renewed discussions over efforts to curtail lawmakers' trading. On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump delivered the first State of the Union address of his second term (Trump addressed a joint session of Congress last year, but it was not an official State of the Union). During the speech, Trump focused predominantly on domestic issues, but said that he would “never” allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon. His speech lasted approximately one hour and 48 minutes, surpassing last year's speech as the longest presidential address to Congress in modern history. The act of care and service through food has been incredibly important to Besha Rodell throughout her life, from her first, euphoric experience of a fancy restaurant at age eight, to the aftermath of September 11.Today Besha is the chief restaurant critic at The Age.The thrill of a fancy restaurant first imprinted itself on her psyche when she was a girl, treated to dinner at Stephanie's iconic spot in Melbourne. As a teenager, Besha was transplanted to her mother's native USA and got her first job in hospitality — and found her people — in North Carolina.A stint in New York followed, where Besha witnessed September 11 in real time.Eventually Besha started a family with her boyfriend, Ryan, in North Carolina and the family found they were living under the poverty line. They got by thanks to a government food voucher program.Shortly after, Besha's blog posts, written for fun, gained traction and she was given her first assignment in food writing.Further informationHunger Like A Thirst is published by HardieGrant. This episode was produced by Alice Moldovan. What if peace, power, joy, and authority weren't future promises but present realities you can live today? We sat down with author and discipler Jenny Sierra to unpack a bold, practical vision of our inheritance in Christ—one that doesn't wait for heaven but transforms ordinary days right now. Jenny traces how a simple pattern in Scripture—verses about inheritance appearing everywhere—grew from a journaled list into a 99-part discipleship journal designed to help you access what already belongs to you.We dive into the heart of formation: learning to memorize Scripture so it lives in you, exploring the richness of original Greek and Hebrew, and turning prayer into a living conversation that listens, declares, and heals. Jenny shares how Jesus modeled authority by speaking the Father's words, and how believers today can pray with clarity, compassion, and confidence. We talk through envisioning prayers—beholding God's promises as active in your life—and the way hope, biblically defined as expectation, reshapes anxious minds and weary hearts. This isn't theory; it's a toolkit for thriving instead of surviving.Jenny's years running discipleship homes taught her how identity is formed in the trenches: serving “the least,” walking with people through struggle, and grounding authority in love. She offers practical rhythms—meditating on the Word before sleep, reading slowly, and letting the Spirit personalize truth—that help faith move from head to heart to habit. If you've been white-knuckling belief, this conversation offers a gentler, stronger way: borrow Jesus' faith, agree with his promises, and step into the life you already own in him.If this resonates, share it with a friend who needs hope today, subscribe for more soul-deep conversations, and leave a review to help others find the show. This week on "50 Weeks That Shaped America," we're headed to the winter of 1777-1778 and the strategic retreat by the Continental Army to Valley Forge, PA. Over the course of that winter, George Washington worked to turn the army from a group of ragtag militias into a unified force -- all with the help of a mysterious Prussian general. Jody, Niki, and Kellie discuss how Valley Forge was effectively a pop-up city, and how it reflected what would come in an independent United States.Join our America250 newsletter community! A globally renowned Water Cycle practitioner, Zach continues to activate thousands of people around the globe to restore the health of watersheds and ecosystems, while ensuring water security and true wealth in their own communities. Support the Podcast via PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=LBGXTRM292TFC&source=url Decentralized water retention is both quietly and radically transforming desertified, urbanized and degraded landscapes, ushering in fertility and abundance, restoring peace and the livelihoods of numerous communities worldwide. Indigenous peoples have traditionally regarded water as sacred, safeguarding it as the precious inheritance of life. We would do well to remember our ancestral, original connections to water and how, if we respect and protect it, we can collectively change the world. Water regulates 70-95% of the heat dynamics of planet earth, yet it is virtually non-existent in climate change conversations. Over the past 10,000 years human activity has desertified ⅓ of earth's land, causing catastrophic consequences, water and food scarcity, displacement of peoples, and created repeated cycles of severe flood, drought, and fire - otherwise known as the Watershed Death Spiral. All of this is not only preventable, but reversible if we work with water and recognize this as the ultimate calling of our times. Work for water and the world changes. Decentralized Water Retention delivers meaningful results after the first rainy season. People around the world are learning how to quickly create real substantive change for the health of their landscapes and communities - by working for water. On Friday, the Supreme Court voted 6–3 to strike down most of President Donald Trump's tariffs, finding that the president exceeded his authority when he imposed duties under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The Court's ruling invalidates the president's “Liberation Day” tariffs, which imposed a 10% baseline duty on U.S. trading partners as well as steeper tariffs on individual countries.Ad-free podcasts are here!To listen to this podcast ad-free, and to enjoy our subscriber only premium content, go to ReadTangle.com to sign up!ICYMI.Last Friday, we ran a little experiment: How would ChatGPT do if we had it write a Tangle take? Tony Tan's parents pinned their hopes on him when they sent him from home in Malaysia to Melbourne to become a white collar professional in the 1970s. There he found “funny smelling cigarettes”, a lovely man called Terry and a destiny he couldn't escape.Tony was exposed to deep, rich flavour and the precision of cooking from a young age.His mother was a chef in Malaysian colonial kitchens and Tony would often accompany her to work, where he would sometimes receive a single golden, dripping roasted potato, or pinch the meat from a leftover kitchen carcass. He was a precocious child — known as Little Chilli — always wanting to know how certain cooking techniques worked. His parents didn't want him to follow them into the world of food, so they sent him to study at university in Melbourne, with hopes that he would ascend to the world of white collar work on behalf of the family. He had his first introduction to Lygon Street in the 1970s, and university couldn't keep him away from the world of food.Further informationTony Tan's most recent cook book, Tony Tan's Asian Cooking Class is published by Murdoch Books. This episode was produced by Alice Moldovan. This month, the artificial intelligence discourse hit a new fever pitch. It started with a viral post on X, titled “Something Big Is Happening,” which racked up tens of millions of views. The post was written by Matt Shumer, the CEO of the AI personal assistant company HyperWrite. It's long, but it's worth your time. The thrust of the post is this: Artificial intelligence is improving much faster than most anyone seems to understand, and the rate of improvement is accelerating. AI's capability has exploded in the last six months, Shumer says, and people who played with AI tools two years or 12 months or six weeks ago have no idea how much better they are today.
