We also run through our Spotify Wrapped 2025 and roast each other accordingly. ⭐️ TOPIC 1 — The Best Christmas Specials Ever We go through TimeOut's list and then immediately derail into our own picks — classics, weird ones, cartoons, South Park moments, and the one Christmas special or movie we absolutely have to watch every year. Plus we talk post-2000s Christmas episodes, including:• The Sopranos — Bobby as Santa, Paulie threatening him, a kid telling Santa “F*** you.” A holiday mood.• Aqua Teen Hunger Force — Meatwad's cursed t-shirt, “Horror Claus,” and Santa getting rebuilt with soccer-ball skin. Totally normal Christmas stuff. We also read your Patreon & Facebook picks, featuring everything from Die Hard debates to Bad Santa, Ernest Saves Christmas, Home Alone, The Ref, and more. ⭐️ TOPIC 2 — STRANGER THINGS (Final Season!) Everyone except Tim is watching and enjoying it.Everyone except Tim has opinions.Tim is busy hate-watching “Temu Stranger Things” (Welcome to Derry) instead. PREVIEW - The Friday Edition: The drifter's lament. Written by: A.M. Hickman.

About a year ago, a Tangle staff member introduced me to a writer named A.M. Hickman. He had just published a fascinating piece on his Substack, Hickman's Hinterlands, arguing that America wasn't unreasonably expensive — Americans themselves were simply demanding more out of their lives: living in urban hotspots, seeking out fancy apartments or big houses, refusing to take bets on up-and-coming areas. Hickman told this story through his personal lens; he resides in upstate New York (but, as you'll see in a moment, is also a bit of a nomad) in a rural, dilapidated town that also happens to be incredibly cheap and quite beautiful.I loved the story; it felt like a fresh narrative, delivered in a wholly unique voice. I began devouring Hickman's writing — on class, on the birth of his daughter, on the death of his mother, on what it's like to travel via bus through rural America, and even on his longing (and our shared affection) for the desert. So, a few months ago, I got Hickman on the phone and pitched him on the idea of writing for Tangle. What stories was he turning over in his head? What piece did he want some help with from a sharp and unique editorial team? What was he working on next? He was brimming with ideas, but one in particular caught my attention: a story about how he missed being homeless. Hickman had spent years as a kind of nomadic “bum” (his words) hitchhiking across America, and in a flourish, he described all the ways in which he felt more alive and more intellectually stimulated during that time in his life than any other. I was intrigued, and I pushed him for a draft.Ad-free podcasts are here!To listen to this podcast ad-free, and to enjoy our subscriber only premium content, go to ReadTangle.com to sign up!You can subscribe to Tangle by clicking here or drop something in our tip jar by clicking here. Former Rep. Mark Green's (R) resignation in July triggered the special election, and the race drew national attention and significant outside spending. Van Epps's win preserves the 220–213 majority Republicans held prior to Green's resignation. From Battlefield to Boardroom: A Global Legacy of Courage, Compassion & Leadership This week, the Team Never Quit Podcast welcomes a truly extraordinary guest: Dr. Sudip Bose — emergency physician, Iraq War veteran, entrepreneur, medical innovator, and one of the world's most dynamic voices at the intersection of medicine, military leadership, and business. Few leaders embody resilience and global perspective the way Dr. Bose does. His story spans continents, combat zones, emergency rooms, and corporate boardrooms—all shaped by deep heritage and a lifelong commitment to service. A Legacy Rooted in Courage and Heritage Born in the United States to parents who emigrated from Kolkata, Dr. Bose carries a powerful cultural heritage. Fluent in Bengali and proud of his lineage, he is a descendant of: ·         Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, legendary freedom fighter ·         Jagadish Chandra Bose, pioneering scientist ·         Satyendra Nath Bose, the physicist behind the concept of bosons Their spirit of bravery, intellectual curiosity, and innovation lives on in Dr. Bose's own journey. Leadership Forged in War Dr. Bose's leadership was tested early—on the front lines of Iraq as a U.S. Army physician under the most intense combat conditions. He earned the Bronze Star Medal for his service and was entrusted with treating Saddam Hussein after his capture. More than the accolades, the battlefield taught him the principles that guide his life: ·         Stay calm when others panic ·         Find clarity in chaos ·         Turn adversity into opportunity ·         Let heritage and values anchor global impact These lessons follow him into every trauma bay, boardroom, and keynote stage he steps into today. From the ER to the Global Stage After returning from combat, Dr. Bose transitioned into civilian life—continuing his work as an emergency physician while expanding his influence across medicine, media, innovation, and policy. His roles include: ·         Executive Producer of Desert Doc, the Telly Award–winning Amazon Prime docuseries revealing the realities of emergency medicine ·         Founder of The Battle Continues, a nonprofit supporting injured combat veterans ·         EMS Medical Director for the largest geographic hospital coverage area in the U.S.—19 counties and 38,000 square miles ·         Advisory Board Member for DrB.ai, a global digital health platform increasing access to affordable care ·         Trusted Advisor to the U.S. Congress on healthcare policy ·         Keynote Speaker for Fortune 500 companies and major financial institutions Across everything he does, Dr. Bose bridges healthcare, military discipline, and business strategy—helping leaders thrive in high-stakes environments. This is a masterclass in courage, clarity, service, and global leadership—told by a man who has lived it on every front line imaginable. In this episode you will hear: • [My sister] She's a CEO but sometimes she's the CEO of my chaos. (7:46) • I basically started med school at 21; I got my MD at 25. (8:59) • I remember sitting with my dad and asking him: “What can I do where I don't have to study?” (10:58) • Things that are just tragic and sad; they shape you later. You don't realize it at the time. (11:47) • I think if they had an award in high school for least likely to go in the military, I might have gotten that award. Guess what? In Junior high – 6th grade – I weighed 49 pounds. I was tiny. I didn't hit 5' tall until my sophomore year of high school. (12:33) • I'm in the books as the Illinois state champion in wrestling, because nobody could match my weight division. (13:11) • You don't realize how your world can change in a moment, and what seems like irrelevant work or homework or assignments later in life might save your life. (16:32) • In Iraq, I find myself cooped up in this ambulance. An armored 5-7-7 track medical vehicle with metal wheels, jostling to the next section of Bagdad or Fallujah and then the vehicle comes to a screeching halt, the back door opens and you hop out like a frog jumping out of a blender. And you find yourself on the front lines of the battlefield. (21:33) • There are the mental challenges of losing people you know. (22:52) • You love [life] saves where you can have them unite with their family. (27:11) • Within hours of getting there, there were two soldiers that came in and I had to pronounce dead. You just realize, wow, you are in it now. (31:19) • You cant take care of everyone, but by training my medics, I multiplied myself. (34:02) • [Marcus] You scored the number 1 in the nation on your medical exam board; You scored at the top of the Army physical fitness test; A Bronze Star; Recognized by CNN as a CNN hero; You're one of the leading physicians in the world; [You served] The longest combat tour since WWII; You treated Saddam Hussein. (52:26) • I evaluated [Saddam Hussein] shortly after his capture. (56:10) • You have to put your feelings, emotions, everything side, so you can focus. (57:45) • Somebody told me I might be the only person who has ben face to face with Saddam Hussein and shaken hands with George W. Bush. Federal prosecutors have charged dozens of people with defrauding Minnesota social programs since 2020, and recent reporting has highlighted the links between the fraud schemes and the Somali-American community. In November, a report authored by Ryan Thorpe and Christopher Rufo and published in City Journal — a periodical funded by the conservative think tank The Manhattan Institute — highlighted the fraud's concentration among the state's Somali community and claimed the funds were partially directed to the Somali-based terrorist group Al-Shabaab. On Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the agency would be opening an investigation into Gov. Tim Walz's (D) oversight of the programs beset by alleged fraud; the House Oversight Committee opened its own probe into the programs on Tuesday. What It Feels Like to Lead the World's Most Successful Musical with Maggie Brohn ---------------------------- She started answering phones. Now she runs Broadway's biggest global hit. Meet Maggie Brohn, the powerhouse behind Hamilton. In this episode of Heartbeat for Hire, host Lyndsay Dowd sits down with Maggie Brohn, Chief Operating Officer of Adventureland and the powerhouse Executive Producer of Hamilton across Broadway, the West End, Disney+, multiple global tours, and international productions. Maggie shares the remarkable story of how she went from answering phones in a theatrical office to becoming an owner, producer, and one of the most influential leaders in modern theater. She breaks down how Hamilton transitioned from a groundbreaking production into a global business — operating more like a major corporation than a traditional Broadway show. We explore the art of leading creatives, building trust, setting authority, navigating strong emotions, and making mission-critical decisions. Maggie reveals what it takes to guide artists while staying grounded in business realities and cultivating a team capable of worldwide excellence. She also opens up about listening, cultural sensitivity, DEI conversations, building long-term contracts, and why the industry needs a full reset. Practice ownership comes with a unique paradox: the autonomy you fought for also means carrying the full weight of clinical work, business management, and leadership. In this episode, Tracy breaks down the World Health Organization's three-phase burnout framework and reveals why nearly half of all physicians are experiencing burnout symptoms—and what makes practice owner burnout distinctly different and dangerous.  Click here for full show notes  Is your practice growth-ready? See Where Your Practice Stands: Take our Practice Growth Readiness Assessment  Episode Highlights  The WHO's three phases of burnout: exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced professional efficacy—and why recognizing which phase you're in determines what help you need  Why American culture makes Phase 1 exhaustion nearly impossible to recognize (hint: we've been conditioned to see depletion as a badge of honor)  The shocking global statistics: from 43% burnout rates in the US to 66% emotional exhaustion among Portuguese physicians  Why practice owner burnout can't be solved with employed physician solutions—you can't "delegate up" when you ARE the up  Real examples of what each phase looks like: from sitting in your driveway without energy to enter your home, to thinking cynical thoughts that horrify you  The $4.6 billion annual cost of physician burnout to the US healthcare system—and the incalculable personal cost to you, your practice, and your family  Why autonomy alone isn't enough: the protection it provides versus the isolation and weight it creates  Memorable Quotes  "Burnout is not a personal failing. It's a predictable occupational phenomenon with identifiable phases."  "Phase one exhaustion is your prevention opportunity. This is where you still have an easy exit ramp. If you catch yourself and actually address it—not by doubling down, but by making strategic changes—prevention strategies actually work."  "You can't think your way out of cynicism using the same thinking that got you there."  "Your practice will survive a few weeks without you, but you might not survive continuing to push through phase three."  "When you're the owner, you can't just leave. Your practice is your livelihood, your investment, and your legacy."  "You are not broken. You are not weak. You are responding predictably to chronic stress that hasn't been successfully managed."  Closing  Understanding burnout isn't about labeling yourself—it's about getting clear on what level of support you actually need. Whether you're in the prevention zone, need intervention, or are facing a crisis, there's a path forward. Join us next episode as we dive into the strategic prevention approaches that work specifically for independent practice owners.  Tracy's Bio:  Tracy Cherpeski, MBA, MA, CPSC (she/her/hers) is the Founder of Tracy Cherpeski International and Thriving Practice Community. On Monday, the White House said that on September 2, the military carried out a follow-up strike on a suspected drug-running boat in the Caribbean after two boat occupants survived an initial strike. The statement follows a Washington Post reportpublished Friday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized military action to kill everyone on board the boat (though it is unclear whether he was aware of the second strike on the two survivors). If carried out as described, the second strike may have violated international law by killing incapacitated enemy combatants. Support the Podcast via PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=LBGXTRM292TFC&source=url There is a global push and narrative around “clean, renewable energy.” Anyone who has advocated on the frontlines knows that renewable energy is far from being 100% clean or without consequence, particularly to Indigenous people or people of color who tend to be on the receiving end of the aftermath and health risks of renewable energy sources such as geothermal may pose. Every energy source bears environmental risk whether to our air, soil, water, the sacred lands of original Indigenous peoples or the totality of beings of nature, especially those nearly invisible to us. Who benefits and who suffers in this assault upon air, water, soil and living beings? The expense is high for all of us. Terri Napeahi, Native Hawaiian grassroots organizer and advocate for her people, highlights concerns around the expansion of geothermal energy in Hawai'i as well as issues of corporate influence and fasttracking projects without proper regard for the health and safety of current and future generations of life. Terri's advocacy began in her own community, after hearing that Hawaiians hold the highest percentages of health, income, and welfare disparities in their own home. We break down their Top 10, share what they nailed, what they butchered, and what absolutely does not belong anywhere near a “Best Comedy Ever” list. From cult classics to Gen-X essentials, we get into which films still make us laugh and which ones make us go “…really?” Plus, a little pre-holiday small talk about what we're watching, what we're avoiding, and what movies we're forcing on unsuspecting family members this weekend. In this candid snack episode, Tracy sits in the interview seat as Miranda explores the practical reality of AI for private practices. Following Tracy's conversation with David Herman about AI in dental marketing, this episode addresses what practice owners are really asking about AI implementation, where these tools genuinely help, and the critical questions to ask before investing time and resources. Tracy shares insights from a recent burnout workshop with Silicon Valley physicians and offers a framework for thinking strategically about technology that supports—rather than replaces—human connection in healthcare.  Click here for full show notes  Episode Highlights  AI's real role in healthcare: Where these tools genuinely help (administrative tasks, scribing) versus where physicians have serious concerns (primary care AI models)  The "band-aid on a fixed system" reality: Why AI tools can reclaim time but don't address the systemic commodification of healthcare delivery  Implementation without drowning: Tracy's framework for introducing new technology when you're already stretched thin, including the time leadership quadrant approach  Real physician experiences: Stories from Tracy's primary care doctor and Miranda's daughter's cardiologist about AI scribing tools reclaiming 3-4 hours weekly  The marketing-systems connection: Why beautiful marketing campaigns fail when practices lack the infrastructure to handle increased inquiry volume  Questions to ask before implementing AI: What end result you want, how to ensure HIPAA compliance, where volume will come from, and whether your team is resourced for success  Memorable Quotes  "It's not about fear of being replaced, it's fear about causing harm."  "The system isn't broken—it's fixed. One quarter of a degree at a time, the temperature has been increased to the point where it became normalized."  "These people go to school for 8, 12 or more years to practice medicine and are now well paid but not well enough for the amount of hours they put in—business administrators, basically admin paper pushers."  "We want all of our providers to be well rested, to have bandwidth, to not have to be reactive all the time. We want that as patients."  "If we're not going to be human, then what's the point?"  "Our clients do not love slowing down, but it's the way that we can gain clarity."  Closing  AI represents both genuine opportunity and potential pitfall for independent practices. The key lies not in whether to adopt these tools, but in approaching implementation with clear strategic thinking about your desired outcomes, team capacity, and practice ecosystem. Before investing in any AI solution, take time to work on your business from that essential 30,000-foot view—because technology without strategy is just expensive noise.  Listen to David Herman: AI in Healthcare: How Technology Makes Patient Care More Human, Featuring David Herman, EP 207  Is your practice growth-ready? Darkness Radio Presents: Reinventing SETI: New Directions in the Search for Extraterrestrial Life w/ John Gertz & Scotty Rorek! In today's Thanksgiving Episode, you get a double helping of guests! Scientist/Author John Gertz and Psychic/Medium Scotty Rorek!  For millennia, humanity has looked up at the sprawling tapestry of stars and wondered what lay beyond. With time, we learned that each star is not a pinprick point in a domed sky, but a massive plasma sphere so far away that the distance becomes incomprehensible to the human mind, measured in light years of millions and billions. This distance invokes crucial questions. Do we share the universe with other intelligent lifeforms? If so, how do we approach the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)? Lastly, do we need to examine our assumptions about extraterrestrial intelligence? John Gertz's book, Reinventing SETI clears out the cobwebs of outdated or wrongheaded SETI paradigms such as Fermi's Paradox, the Drake Equation, and METI (i.e., proactively sending signals from Earth to putative aliens). It argues that scientists should approach the pursuit of extraterrestrials (ETs) in a more effective manner. Author John Gertz states that ETs, as biological lifeforms themselves, cannot accomplish interstellar travel, but have instead placed robotic probes throughout the universe, perhaps even in our own Solar System. Gertz also warns that humankind is woefully unprepared for the day of First Contact with an alien probe right here in our own backyard. He suggests contingency planning, involving international cooperation as well as broad cross-disciplinary expertise. On Today's show, we welcome in John Gertz to talk about his theories about whether ET exists, whether they have made contact with us, and what we should do if they appear on our world!! Tghen, Psychic/Medium Scotty Rorek joins us for a special segment in which he helps Tim explain why sometimes you need a little help from your friends!
