An essential part of Tangle is engaging with readers — through live events, email exchanges, and now in social channels like Reddit and our new texting platform, Subtext. But something we've done since the beginning is answer a reader question in our main newsletter. Over time, we've gotten more questions than we can answer — but many of the questions that haven't made it into the daily newsletter or podcast are still worth answering. So we devote an occasional Friday edition to getting to the questions we didn't have the space to answer. A lot of these questions allow us to get into more detail and cover ground we might not cover in the daily newsletter, so we love the opportunity to dig in and go deep. Today, the whole Tangle editorial team is fielding your questions on topics ranging from abortion to immigration to our editorial standards. Independent healthcare practices are at a critical crossroads. Based on original research from Tracy Cherpeski International's white paper "Unlocking Potential: A Business Blueprint for Practice Owners," this episode reveals the time crisis threatening independent practice ownership—and the surprising wave of change on the horizon. Tracy shares data showing that practice owners spend up to 35% of their time on administrative tasks, while 80% dream of a future with more strategic freedom. But there's hope: with proven time leadership strategies, practice owners are reclaiming 5-10 hours weekly and building sustainable practices that support both exceptional patient care and quality of life.  Click here for full show notes  Is your practice growth-ready? See Where Your Practice Stands: Take our Practice Growth Readiness Assessment  Episode Highlights  The shocking data on how much time practice owners lose to administrative work weekly  Why physician practice ownership dropped 13 percentage points from 2012-2022  The emerging wave of young and mid-career physicians choosing independent practice ownership  Dr. Noah's story: From drowning in admin work to reclaiming his practice and his life  The "garden sunlight" framework for understanding strategic time allocation  What's at stake if we don't support the next generation of practice owners  Proven strategies that help owners reclaim 5-10 hours per week  Memorable Quotes  "The biggest threat to independent healthcare practices isn't private equity buyouts or declining reimbursements—it's how practice owners are spending their time every single week."  "Medical school teaches you how to diagnose and treat patients. It doesn't teach you how to build systems, delegate effectively, or think like a CEO."  "Your time as a practice owner is like sunlight in a garden. If you spread it too thin across every single plant, nothing grows particularly strong."  "We're at an inflection point. And the question is: will these courageous physician entrepreneurs have the support, resources, and business knowledge they need to succeed?"  "Independent healthcare practice ownership doesn't have to be a path to burnout. With the right approach, it can be exactly what you envisioned."  Resources  Download the full white paper: "Unlocking Potential: A Business Blueprint for Practice Owners"   Register for the November 18th Time Leadership Masterclass (Open to everyone!)   Learn more about Thriving Practice Community membership.  Tracy's Bio:  Tracy Cherpeski, MBA, MA, CPSC (she/her/hers) is the Founder of Tracy Cherpeski International and Thriving Practice Community. However, climate disruption with hotter, drier summers and more frequent brush fires, threatens that some day soon Joshua Tree National Park will no longer have any Joshua trees. We discuss these systems and investigate what solutions are needed. Are solar farms in the desert an appropriate renewable energy solution, or do they cause more harm than good? What about the consequences of lithium mining in Death Valley for electric vehicles? Did you know it is not a wise idea to grow your own Joshua Tree from imported seeds? On Sunday, the Senate voted60–40 to advance legislation to end the federal government shutdown after Republicans reached a deal with several Democratic senators. The package includes the continuing resolution passed by the House of Representatives with amendments to include three bills (known as a “minibus”) that will collectively fund the operations of Congress, the Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration, and programs and benefits for veterans in fiscal year 2026. As part of the deal, Congress will also fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) through fiscal year 2026. However, the deal will not include an extension of enhanced Affordable Care Act credits, which Democrats had been demanding as part of a deal. Instead, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) promised a vote in December on extending the credits. Jennifer Estlin has been involved in the entertainment business as an actress and producer since 1986. Following her graduation from Northwestern University's School of Speech in 1987, she traveled to Edinburgh Scotland with the production of André Gregory's Alice! directed by David Schwimmer. She toured for two years with Second City's National Touring company and was a company member on a Second City resident stage prior to moving to New York in 1994. Tim shares how he's been using Sora to make surreal videos for Gilbert (and inventing a whole alternate-dimension being named Gob-Loaf along the way), while Dustin and Lizzie trade their own AI stories and Jeff admits he's just waiting until they let you make porn. We also tackle the viral Food Stamp “Toast Lady” video that fooled half of TikTok (spoiler: she's not real — just another AI fever dream). In Views or Snooze, the crew previews the week's big streaming drops: * Death by Lightning (Netflix) — Michael Shannon brings President Garfield back from the dead (metaphorically). * Frankenstein (Netflix) — Guillermo del Toro's gothic vision finally arrives… a week late for Halloween. * Pluribus (Apple TV+) — Vince Gilligan returns with Rhea Seehorn in a mysterious new drama. * Plus: Jeff's culinary Staff Pick — the Whataburger patty melt with a blackberry Dr Pepper milkshake — and Tim's Text Impressions, featuring Sam Elliott reflecting on life with Billy Bob Thornton as his son.

Last week, Tucker Carlson released an interview with the far-right commentator Nick Fuentes. The interview has caused a firestorm on the right, dividing the MAGA base over how Carlson handled the interview — and bringing up questions about who should be platformed. But when I listened to the interview, I heard something much more interesting that nobody seems to be talking about: the origin story of one of the country's most notorious bigots. I thought that story actually offered some important insights. Trump has justified his broad “reciprocal tariffs” on U.S trading partners by declaring a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which prompted the legal challenges. We look at the economics behind the ticket market and how “reseller bots” are wreaking all sorts of havoc. The industry is not a fan, and yet they do serve an economic function. And… why pet care costs have surged.
