Is a BDSM dungeon on your sexual bucket list? You might be surprised about how actual dungeons operate. In this episode, the Wives explore public BDSM dungeons, including an interview with Dungeon East owner Mistress Justine Cross. First, get ready for Halloween with this episode's cocktail: the Black Widow, while Ams shares her first experience as a unicorn to another couple. Next, the Wives discuss what a dungeon is and why you might want to visit one. A BDSM dungeon is a room or space designated specifically for BDSM (i.e. - Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadism and Masochism) play or scenes. Public dungeons can be found in fetish studios, sex work spaces, sex clubs, warehouses and nightclubs (sometimes during specific fetish parties and themed nights) and are usually open to the public. A dungeon is a great place to explore kinkier, edgier play, surrounded by people who LOVE to demonstrate their skills. You can learn, you can watch and you can experience kink including spanking, flogging, bondage and suspension. You can also experience toys and equipment that you might not be willing to invest in at home, such as St. Andrew's cross's (Ams' favorite!), hooks and bars or suspension play, spanking benches and impact toys. To get an expert's opinion, the Wives interview Mistress Justine Cross, owner of Dungeon East in Los Angeles, California. Finally, the Wives set themselves sexy homework: visiting an actual dungeon for newbie night...and more… About Mistress Justine Cross she/her Mistress Justine is a professional BDSM consultant and lifestyle Dominatrix based in Los Angeles. She is the owner of Dungeon East, Los Angeles's premiere dungeon studio. Our Special Guest Today is Chef Suzanne Tracht, Owner of JAR + Actor Anne Heche Zagat Says of Chef Suzanne: “Walk into Suzanne Tracht's modern chophouse restaurant today, and it's as good as it was when it opened in 2001. The wood-paneled walls, the chic mushroomlike light fixtures, the warm tones — this dining room is recognizable from any angle, especially when it's used as a set for movies like "La La Land." Even when full, there's a soft hum to the place that makes dinner here great for business meetings, dates, and family gatherings. The bar is a good option for drop-ins, especially for martinis and complimentary potato chips and horseradish dip. Chef Suzanne Tracht has built JAR into one of the most beloved and successful restaurants in Los Angeles. Drawing inspiration from classic American comfort cuisine, JAR is a pilgrimage for passionate eaters and wine lovers from across the country. It's my favorite kind of restaurant: A classic chophouse imagined as only the great Chef Suzanne Tracht could imagine. Jar's interior evokes the aura of a timeless supper club, JAR has become an indelible part of the city's culture, even starring as a memorable location in the Academy Award-winning classic La La Land during a pivotal dramatic moment. Utilizing the very best in local ingredients, Chef Tracht delights in taking classic chophouse dishes—deviled eggs, blue cheese wedge salad, and prime steaks The widespread praise for JAR over the years includes acclaim from the late Pulitzer Prize-winning Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly restaurant critic Jonathan Gold, who gave JAR a coveted spot on his “101 Best Restaurants in LA” list every year since its inception. “Tracht's gift lies in her ability to reproduce the old tastes within a modern context,” wrote Mr. Gold, “so that the sautéed pea tendrils with garlic make as much sense as the creamed spinach, the duck-fried rice as the mashed potatoes, and the char siu-style pork chop as the prime filet mignon.” Chef Suzanne Tracht Prepares a Menu of her Favorite Dishes for the Thanksgiving Holiday Jar, present Thanksgiving Dinner Take-Out ready for pick up on Wednesday, November 25, 2021, with easy instructions for heating and preparing for the holiday home table. The menu features dishes inspired by Suzanne's family traditions and American holiday flavors. All prepaid ordering, exclusively through TOCK, must be completed by 6:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2021 with pick-up on Wednesday, October 25, 2020, only from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. JAR is closed on Thanksgiving Day. www.thejar.com 323.655.6566 8225 Beverly Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90048

Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for September 11, 2021 is: sedentary SED-un-tair-ee adjective Sedentary describes an activity in which much sitting is involved. // Editorial work is chiefly sedentary. See the entry > Examples: "A sedentary lifestyle could increase your levels of exhaustion. Luckily, small changes in your daily life can impact your activity levels for the better. Taking the stairs instead of taking the elevator, and adding a daily walk can make you feel more energized…." — Maria Loreto, LA Weekly, 9 Aug. 2021 Did you know? Sedentary comes from Latin sedēre, meaning "to sit." Other descendants of sedēre include dissident, insidious, preside, reside, and subsidy. No BS, Greg Fitzsimmons has been one of my favorite comics since I was in high school, and having him on was an absolute blast. We talk about his early days in the tough Boston scene, watching Hedberg bomb, performing at the AVN awards and I tell him my favorite jokes I’ve watched him do over the years. Hands down, this episode is one of my favorites. Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora.Mixing an incisive wit with scathing sarcasm, Greg Fitzsimmons has achieved success as a stand-up, an Emmy Award winning writer, and host on TV, radio and his own podcast. Touted as one of the Caribbean's top rising female artists, Cowan was recognized as the Breakthrough Reggae Artist of 2018 at the 2019 Jamaica Reggae Industry Awards. Her first release Naked was the first song Naomi wrote on guitar and now her signature hit Paradise Plum rocketed Naomi to reggae music fans across the world and propelled her to several international stages in music and media. Naomi has performed live in London, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Trinidad, Miami, Toronto, New York, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands & across the island of Jamaica. Her live sets include performances of her original reggae/rocksteady releases such as The Way, Gold, You're Gonna Lose feat Mark Pelli (member of the billboard chart topping Reggae-Pop group Magic!), One True Love and Peace Of Mind. Musician and writer Michael Simmons has written dozens of Dylan cover pieces for MOJO magazine, as well as incisive liner notes for Another Self Portrait and Bob Dylan 1970. “I remember where I was when Kennedy was assassinated and I remember the exact moment I heard Like A Rolling Stone. It sounded like freedom.” He praises Bob as both “a revolutionary” and “an evolutionary” artist and reminds us that “the difference between a great talent and a hack is the willingness to fall on their face in the pursuit of something new.” From Michael’s LA home he recounts his time playing guitar, singing backup and doing improvised comedy with the outrageous country jokesters Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys (despite being born in New York City). Mr Simmons contains other multitudes: T-Bone Burnett, Greil Marcus, George Hamilton IV, Gordon Lightfoot, Jerry Garcia and Neil Young all receive considered mentions. He brings it all back home by confirming that “at all times, somebody, somewhere in the world, is talking about Bob Dylan”. Join our conversation with this most savvy of Dylan scribes. Michael Simmons is a musician, journalist, filmmaker and activist. He was dubbed "The Father Of Country Punk" by Creem magazine in the 1970s, edited the National Lampoon in the '80s, and won the LA Press Club Award in the '90s. He's written for the LA Weekly, LA Times, Rolling Stone, Penthouse and High Times. He is MOJO magazine’s premiere writer on all things Dylan as well as profiling George Harrison, Leon Russell, Lowell George and The Fugs. He has written liner notes for albums by Dylan, Michael Bloomfield, Phil Ochs, Kris Kristofferson, Arthur Lee & Love and many others. Lalo Alcaraz (born April 19, 1964) is an American cartoonist most known for being the author of the comic La Cucaracha, the first nationally syndicated, politically themed Latino daily comic strip. Launched in 2002, La Cucaracha has become one of the most controversial in the history of American comic strips. Alcaraz was born in 1964 in San Diego, California, and grew up on the U.S.–Mexico border, giving him a dual outlook on life (not "Mexican" enough for his relatives, not "American" enough for some in the U.S.). He attended San Diego State University, where he received his bachelor's degree "With Distinction" in Art and Environmental Design in 1987. In 1991, Alcaraz earned his master's degree in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. A leading figure in the Chicano movement. Alcaraz formerly contributed political cartoons for LA Weekly from 1992 to 2010. He co-hosts a radio show on KPFK called the "Pocho Hour of Power". On this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we explore some true crime and look at the life and murders of Lonnie David Franklin JR, aka, The Grim Sleeper. This serial killer was considered the longest operating killer west of the Mississippi River, and it took decades to catch him. He preyed on prostitutes in South Central Los Angeles, and he was only caught due to a piece of pizza and a crazy DNA match that didn’t even connect to him. Nobody really knows much about The Grim Sleeper’s youth, except that he was born in South Central LA in 1952. He spent some time in the army, but he was dishonorably discharged for gang raping a woman in Germany where he was stationed. Back in the states, he lived a typical blue collar life. He was married with two kids, worked in sanitation and even for the LAPD for a bit (not as a cop...). But in the meantime, a string of murders originally assigned to the Southside Slayer were mounting in the worst parts of South Central. Hookers were being found shot in the chest, but there were so many dead prostitutes there that the police thought it was several people doing the killing. And it was. So, how many serial killers used the same hunting grounds as the Grim Sleeper? How did he get his nickname? How did the local LA Weekly newspaper help bring him down? How did a DNA link to his son get him arrested? What does this have to do with a pizza party? How did he kill his victims, and what grisly mementos did the cops find when they raided his house? Listen, laugh, learn. Nancy Rommelmann’s work has appeared in the New York Times Magazine, the LA Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, Reason, and other publications. She has an eye and ear for capturing those interstitial, unseen lives that are lived all around us, particularly unseen in a place like Hollywood. Her articles are full of them: LAPD officers and the refuge that is the cop bar; the inhabitants of a Skid Row dive; the disciples of a Vietnamese spiritual leader; the workaday lives of a Mexican gardening crew in the Hollywood Hills, and a cross-country trip with one of John Wayne Gacy’s pen pals to interview the serial killer two weeks before his execution. Rommelmann received Best Arts Feature 2009 for “No Exit Plan,” from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN), as well as Best Entertainment Arts Feature 2009 from the Los Angeles Press Club. “Jena at 15,” another LA Weekly feature, received the identical awards in 2001. Recently, Rommelmann has taken to chronicling people whose outsize dreams and delusions inspire them to audacious and sometimes terrible acts: a mother with Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy who murdered her fourteen-year-old daughter before herself committing suicide (Sacrificing Rebecca); the writer Laura Albert, who perpetrated a ten-year con by writing as a teenage boy, the demimonde darling JT LeRoy (No Exit Plan), and Amanda Stott-Smith, who in May 2009 forced her two young children off a bridge in Portland, Oregon. Rommelmann’s Op-Ed pieces and book reviews appear in the Oregonian, and she is also a contributor to the media website LA Observed. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/otcpod1/support
