A recent Los Angeles Times article has reignited worldwide interest in the Black Dahlia murder, spotlighting an amateur sleuth's theory that attempts to link the case to the Zodiac Killer—and naming Marvin Margolis as a “new” prime suspect. But Marvin Margolis is not new.In this bonus episode, we're joined once again by author William J. Mann, whose extensively researched new book, Black Dahlia: Murder, Monsters, and Madness in Midcentury Hollywood, is released today. Long before the headlines, Mann identified Margolis as the strongest—and most credible—suspect in the history of the case.In this follow-up interview, Mann responds directly to the recent media coverage, clarifies what his investigation does and does not support, and explains why decades of armchair detective theories have often missed the mark. This episode cuts through the noise to restore context, credit, and clarity—placing today's headlines against the backdrop of years of original investigative work.Listen to the Once Upon a Crime series, Broken: The Black Dahlia Murderhttps://www.truecrimepodcast.com/introducing-broken-the-black-dahlia-murder-a-once-upon-a-crime-original-series/About the Book:Black Dahlia: Murder, Monsters, and Madness in Midcentury Hollywood By William J. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made headlines at Davos with a much-noticed speechwhere he candidly acknowledged that the US led alliance system created in World War II wascoming to an end. Carney called for middle powers such as Canada and its European allies togive up the illusion that a US led world is still viable and instead try to create new institutions topreserve their values and their sovereignty. I talked to Canadian journalist Stephen Maher, whohas written a biography of Carney's predecessor Justin Trudeau, about the far-reachingimplications of this speech.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Tonight's reports span more than a century, involving recurring encounters, regional waves, and long-term aftereffects. Rather than offering conclusions, this broadcast challenges the assumption that repetition equals intent and asks what these patterns actually tell us about perception, memory, and the limits of investigation. In this live investigative episode, I present seven carefully selected reports involving repeated encounters, pattern recognition across time, and experiences that did not resolve cleanly after a single event. The cases include:• Multiple personal encounters separated by years or decades• Family and community clusters• Historical reports recorded before modern paranormal language existed• Cloaked or distorted humanoid figures• Large bipedal entities and regional encounter waves• A modern incident involving injury, memory disruption, and long-term consequencesRather than framing these experiences as evidence of intent or intelligence, this discussion focuses on restraint, context, and the danger of assuming meaning where evidence remains incomplete. This episode is for listeners who value critical thinking, investigative discipline, and honest uncertainty. If you have experienced something similar, visit Phantoms and Monsters https://phantomsandmonsters.com and share your story.

Tonight's guest, Kai Raath, was born and raised in South Africa. With that in mind, he's been in close proximity to animals that made his heart race but none of them got his heart racing the way it did when he had encounters with a Dogman he had his first encounter with, in March of 2023. That Dogman was white, all over, with a prominent mane running down its back. Due to that feature, Kai and his friends, who have had their own encounters with it, call that Dogman “White Mane.” On tonight's show, Kai is going to be share several encounters he and his friends have had with White Mane. In this episode of Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers is joined by author Jason Offutt to explore the strange creatures hiding in North American folklore and eyewitness reports. Offutt is the author of Chasing North American Monsters: A Guide to Over 250 Creatures from Greenland to Guatemala. The conversation takes a timely turn toward Greenland, a place suddenly dominating global headlines, but also home to chilling monster legends shaped by extreme landscapes, isolation, and centuries of oral tradition. The discussion also looks at Offutt's early fascination with monsters, which began with tracking Bigfoot stories through old newspaper archives, and leads into a deeply unsettling personal experience involving a full bodied apparition. Along the way, Aaron and Jason unpack how cryptids are documented, why certain regions generate more monster stories than others, and how folklore adapts in the modern media age. If creatures are reported independently across generations, regions, and cultures, when does folklore stop being dismissed and start becoming evidence? _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained. Derek Murphy joins for a discussion on the synchronicities of Stranger Things, including a look into mythology, conspiracies and an interesting thought: could the television show itself be a gate, and each viewer a vessel, to facilitate the entry of a real shadow monsters into our world? Could the motif of gorgons, electricity, the DOE, etc., relate to the enormous amount of energy needed to power AI today? Why is it that language models and AI tend to evolve alongside Lovecraft?*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Van Jensen joins Word Balloon for a wide-ranging conversation about genre, adaptation, and why the best stories don't play it safe. We dig into God Fall, Van's epic, faith-shaking fantasy novel series that's now being developed as a television project by Ron Howard and Imagine. Van breaks down what drew Hollywood to the property, how the story's mix of theology, rebellion, and cosmic war translates to the screen, and what he hopes survives the adaptation intact. From there, we zoom out on Van's knack for genre splicing—stories that take familiar frameworks and twist them into something sharper and stranger. That includes his IDW comic Godzilla: Heist, which turns the King of the Monsters into the centerpiece of a crime caper, and his take on Pinocchio, which leans far closer to the original, darker fairy tale than the softened Disney version most people know. It's a conversation about respecting myth, bending expectations, and trusting readers—and viewers—to follow bold ideas wherever they lead.

Gift Someone (Or Yourself) An RR Tee! https://shorturl.at/hekk2 Another season comes to an end as Greg & Tara give their Percy Jackson Season 2 Finale Reaction, Recap, Breakdown, Commentary, & Full Season Spoiler Review! Greg Alba & Tara Erickson react to Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, Episode 8 — the epic season finale, as the Disney+ series brings the Sea of Monsters storyline to a climactic, prophecy-shifting conclusion. With Camp Half-Blood on the brink of destruction and Cronos's manipulation finally laid bare, this episode delivers large-scale action, major mythological reveals, and lasting consequences for Percy and his friends. After an emotional parting with his mother, Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Tyson sneak back into Camp Half-Blood in an attempt to help get the Golden Fleece to Thalia's tree. Standing in their way is Luke, jilted from Cronos's influence & deception, leading a makeshift army of monsters & demigods to burn Camp Half-Blood to the ground, forcing Percy into another emotionally charged confrontation that tests loyalty, destiny, and free will as an all-out battle breaks loose at the camp. The chaos culminates with Clarisse reaching Thalia's tree with the Golden Fleece, only to trigger a massive blast resurrecting Thalia... In the aftermath, Percy experiences a powerful dream-vision with his father Poseidon, confirming the Titans have been freed & enlisting Percy and Tyson's help in the war to come. Later, a reinstated Chiron recounts the truth of Thalia's past and the message once delivered to her by the Furies. The episode's final revelations land hard when Zeus (Courtney B. Vance – The People v. O.J. Simpson) is revealed as Thalia's father, attempting—and failing—to bend her toward the prophecy and his protection. Thalia's reunion with Annabeth in the final moments signals a future where Cronos may once again seek to twist destiny itself. And we get a cheeky li'l post-credits scene with Circe (Rosemarie DeWitt)! Season 2's Cast of Characters includes: Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), Annabeth Chase (Leah Sava Jeffries), Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri), Clarisse La Rue (Dior Goodjohn), Luke Castellan (Charlie Bushnell), Thalia Grace (actress TBD), Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull), Tyson (Daniel Diemer), Chiron / Mr. Brunner (Glynn Turman), Dionysus / Mr. D (Jason Mantzoukas), Hermes (Lin-Manuel Miranda), & More! If today feels heavy, this episode is for you. You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to make it to tomorrow. Episode Overview In this episode of Shark Theory, Baylor speaks candidly about mental health, emotional weight, and the quiet battles people fight when the adrenaline wears off. Traveling to Costa Rica sparked reflection, not escape, and a reminder that sometimes the things we miss most are the anchors that keep us grounded. Baylor opens up about seeing friends and business associates impacted by suicide and acknowledges a hard truth. Early in the year, when motivation fades and reality sets in, mental health struggles often intensify. This episode isn't about pretending everything is fine. It's about being honest when it's not. He shares a quote that's stayed with him for years. Monsters and ghosts are real. They live inside us, and sometimes they win. That doesn't make you weak. It makes you human. The message is simple but powerful. You don't need to conquer the future today. You don't need a perfect plan. If things feel dark, your only job is to make it to tomorrow. Baylor talks about embracing tough seasons instead of resisting them. Down days give weight to the up days. Struggle creates contrast. Without it, joy loses meaning. The goal isn't to deny the pain, but to recognize that it's temporary. He also breaks down how our minds lie to us through negative "what if" scenarios. What if it doesn't get better. What if it never works out. What if you fail. Instead of fighting those thoughts, Baylor challenges listeners to flip the script and play the positive what-if game. What if it does turn around. What if this season leads somewhere better. What if the best isn't behind you. This episode is a reminder that you're not alone, even when it feels like you are. Nobody has it all together. The people you admire are often barely holding it together in ways you never see. If you're running on 10 percent today, give 100 percent of that 10 percent. That's enough. Key Takeaways • Mental health struggles are real, even for high performers • You don't need to solve everything today, just make it to tomorrow • Tough seasons make future joy more meaningful • Your mind lies more than you think, especially under stress • Playing the positive what-if game can shift your perspective • Giving your best doesn't always mean giving your maximum • Everyone is fighting something you can't see Featured Quote "Sometimes you're not meant to be strong for the rest of your life. You're just meant to be strong enough to make it to tomorrow." If today is heavy, let it be heavy. You don't have to carry the rest of your life right now. Tomorrow is enough.
Return to Oz might be marketed as a fantasy sequel—but rewatching it as adults reveals something far darker. From electroshock therapy and abandoned children to the Wheelers, Princess Mombi's Hall of Heads, and the terrifying Nome King, this Disney film feels more like a full-blown horror movie than a family classic. In this episode of How I Met Your Monster, we continue our Scarytales triple feature by breaking down Return to Oz through the lens of monster introductions, childhood trauma, and nightmare fuel imagery. We explore why this movie terrified so many of us as kids, how it stays unsettling as adults, and why it might be Disney's most disturbing film.We also dive into behind-the-scenes facts, Walter Murch's direction, the film's connection to the original Oz books, and how Return to Oz embraces darker fantasy in the tradition of The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. In this continuation of The Past Macabre's exploration of fossils and myth, host Stephanie Rice examines how ancient cultures interpreted fossil discoveries and connected them to tales of monsters, heroes, and gods.Through oral traditions, archaeological finds, and texts from the Mexica (Aztecs) and Maya of Mesoamerica, the Hopi, Zuni, and Dine (Navajo) of the American Southwest, pre-Christian Ireland, and Classical Greece, this episode explores what these stories tell us about humanity's enduring curiosity about the natural world.Offline Sources Cited:Bierhorst, John. 1992.
