Director Guillermo Del Toro is a master at bringing gothic horror to the big screen in glorious fashion, which he does for this episode's movie “Frankenstein”, but only in a small number of theaters. Most people will have to see this on the small screen because Del Toro decided to make his long-awaited “Frankenstein” movie for Netflix, the king of small screen. Nevertheless, it's fantastic to see a classic movie monster on the screen, with an excellent cast no less. Oscar Isaac plays Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth is Elizabeth, Christoph Waltz as Harlander and Charles Dance as Leopold Frankenstein. This version of the classic tale introduces us to Victor Frankenstein as a young boy to begin to explain his mad ambitions, then onto his creation of The Creature and then the aftermath. We even get to see The Creature's story from his perspective. Does this all add up to an entertaining movie? Check out this episode to find out! “Frankenstein” also stars Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Kyle Gatehouse, Lauren Collins, Sofia Galasso, Ralph Ineson and Burn Gorman. Tonight's guest, Shawn Brackenridge, is a Dogman investigator who doesn't believe in living in your fears. Having said that, even he gets unsettled when he and his research partner visit the area around the Lake Medina Dam, near Mico, Texas. Every time Shawn has visited the dam, the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. The dam is different than any other dam Shawn has seen, when you consider the lengths county officials have gone to, to keep people away from the dam. 7-foot fences surround the dam that are topped with razor wire. Shawn doesn't have to guess why the county has gone to such lengths to keep people away from the dam. He's had multiple encounters with something there that would definitely make the county want to keep people away. Locals who live near the dam don't go outside, after dark. They stay inside their homes. Shawn spoke with a man who works at a shop, in the area, who told Shawn that he won't go outside after dark there, either. We hope you'll tune in and listen to Shawn share more about the area and the experiences he's had there. To visit the Lonestar Cryptid Research Facebook Page, please go to…https://www.facebook.com/p/Lonestar-Cryptid-Research-61577279051213/To visit Lonestar Cryptid Research on Instagram, please go to…https://www.instagram.com/lone_star_cryptid_research/ MY NEW DOGMAN PODCAST!My new podcast is called "Dogman Tales.” It features fictional stories about Dogmen and people who have experiences with them. In 1946, Elizabeth Short – the young woman the world would later know as The Black Dahlia – returned to California chasing love, glamour, and a new beginning. Instead, she found herself drifting through a postwar Los Angeles filled with promise, danger, and people who would soon become key figures in one of the most infamous unsolved murders in American history. In this episode, we follow Beth — now calling herself Betty — from Long Beach to Hollywood and finally to San Diego in the final weeks before her disappearance. Along the way, she crosses paths with men who offer affection and opportunity, but whose motives aren't always as pure as they seem. From the glitzy Florentine Gardens nightclub to the humble home of the French family, this chapter reveals the pattern that defined Elizabeth's life: charm and tragedy, hope and heartbreak, played out against the glittering — and unforgiving — backdrop of midcentury Los Angeles.About This SeriesBROKEN: The Black Dahlia Murder is a six-part Once Upon a Crime original series. Through extensive research, historical records, and firsthand accounts, Esther Ludlow uncovers the truth behind America's most infamous unsolved murder, separating fact from fiction to rediscover the real woman behind the myth.
Some fantasy books flirt with darkness… The Monsters We Feed dives straight in. This is Thomas Howard Riley's latest visit to Luminaworld—the same brutal, fascinating setting as We Break Immortals—and it's a story that mixes lust, lies, blood, and redemption into one gritty, unforgettable tale. In this episode, Jim reviews this adults-only fantasy novel in a spoiler-lite way, sharing what worked, what shocked, and why he ultimately enjoyed this book even more than Riley's debut. If you're curious whether this world of flawed heroes, monstrous villains, and unapologetically mature themes might be your kind of fantasy—this review is for you.

Donald Trump claims he wants to be the peace president and has even lobbied for a NobelPeace Prize. But his foreign policy has been wildly contradictory. While the United States isclearly retrenching from many parts of the world, violence against hemispheric neighbors isincreasing. I talked to Trita Parsi, co-founder and executive vice president of the QuincyInstitute for Responsible Statecraft, for a wide-ranging discussion on why American hegemonyis declining but also why the push for retrenchment hasn't gone far enough. Our Sponsors:* Check out Avocado Green Mattress: https://avocadogreenmattress.com* Check out BetterHelp: https://betterhelp.com/THENATIONAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Tonight's guest, Casey, used to love camping at the seasonal campground he owns, in the White Mountain National Forest, near Lincoln, New Hampshire. The campground is a beautiful place and Casey has gone camping there, every summer, for the past 10 years. It really is a shame, but Casey had an experience at his campground, a few weeks ago, that has forever tarnished the beauty he sees in the woods. It was an experience that was so frightening, so intense, he vomited right before I called him, for the first time, due to him thinking about what happened to him that evening. What started out as a great outing for Casey and his 100-pound pit bull, Callie, turned out to be an absolute nightmare for both of them. If you listen to tonight's show, you'll understand why I think Casey's first encounter has to be one of the most frightening Dogman encounters that's ever been shared on the show. No one should have to go through what he did that night.MY NEW DOGMAN PODCAST!My new podcast is called "Dogman Tales.” It features fictional stories about Dogmen and people who have experiences with them. Welcome … to Cute-E! During our Spook-E series, we speculate on the evolution of monsters from myth and popular media, but we leave out fiction's more adorable creatures. In Cute-E, we choose cuddlier critters and discuss how they – or something like them – could evolve here on Earth, pulling inspiration from real-world species across our planet's history. This year's theme is Monsters of Nintendo. This episode, we pluck precious partners from the soil. This week on MYTH, we're headed to India for a strange, old inversion of the sleeping beauty trope. You'll learn that dolls can talk, that you shouldn't trust people who are too flexible, and that you should stay out of magical doors. Then, in Gods and Monsters, a barber will match wits with a demon with the help of his trusty mirror. Source: Indian Folklore
In this episode, we delve into the world of the supernatural, exploring the myths and legends surrounding vampires, werewolves, and witches. The conversation covers their historical origins, cultural significance, and the psychological aspects of fear that keep these stories alive. We also discuss the transformation themes present in these myths, the role of fear in folklore, and how these entities are perceived in modern pop culture. The blending of Christian and pagan beliefs is examined, along with the moral panics that have arisen throughout history. Finally, we consider the future of these myths and how they may continue to evolve in contemporary society.Judd Burton website: https://www.burtonbeyond.net/
What makes a monster truly legendary?
Across continents and over decades, ordinary people have reported extraordinary encounters with creatures that defy logic and challenge their beliefs. From glowing red eyes watching in a South African field to an enormous batlike entity shaking an SUV in Florida, these accounts remind us that the world may still hold secrets science cannot explain. Witnesses describe beings that shift between human and animal forms, entities that vanish into the wilderness without a trace, and encounters so vivid that they leave behind physical evidence and lifelong unease. In tonight's presentation, we'll dive into nine chilling reports about cryptids & humanoids that are referred to by unusual monikers. A werewolf-like figure prowling the suburbs, a colossal bat terrorizing Orlando, a winged humanoid in Pennsylvania, devilish hybrids in Virginia and Ohio, the historic hunt for a Hodag, a Jackalope sighting in Turkey, a mysterious woman in the frozen Swiss Alps, and a violent attack by a shapeless force on a sugarcane farm. Each testimony is raw, unfiltered, and unforgettable, leaving us to ask what is truly sharing this world with us, and how close they have already come to our lives.

This week, we dive deep into the shadows of literature and film to uncover the hidden Masonic influences behind some of the world's most iconic horror figures. From vampiric immortality to Frankenstein's quest for forbidden knowledge, from the Mummy's resurrection to the zombie's moral symbolism, we'll explore how Masonic ideals of transformation, enlightenment, and the mysteries of life and death may have inspired the monsters that still haunt our imagination. Tune in… if you dare.

Join host Lionel as he debates the evolution of Halloween, noting how it has become "less cheery and more... death and skeletons". This episode dives into the changing traditions of the holiday, comparing nostalgic memories of potentially flammable devil costumes and unsupervised neighborhood trick-or-treating to modern, safer practices like "trunk-or-treating". Lionel and listeners discuss costume etiquette, strict rules (like age and time limitations), the weird candy people hand out (gravy mix, hot chocolate packets), and the classic fears of razor blades in apples. Plus, the conversation explores the seedy, dark underbelly of traveling fairs and examines classic monster themes, from Boo Radley to Frankenstein, as well as the strong family bonds of The Monsters and The Addams Family. It's a mix of cultural commentary, strong opinions, and "Ventilation Friday". Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Mr. O'Bryan's mountain of debt was so ovewhelming that it became a recurring topic of conversation among his circle of friends and acquaintances. In the summer of 1974, he alluded to an upcoming windfall, telling some people that he expected to come into a sum of money by the year's end. Given the tragedy that followed, his statements now hang in the air, fraught with chilling implications...Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Corll https://mysteriesandmurder.wordpress.com/2020/11/01/the-man-who-killed-halloween/ https://www.ctpost.com/news/article/Man-Who-Ruined-Halloween-Recounting-the-14663666.php https://www.courtlistener.com/opinion/1793039/obryan-v-state/?q=ronald%20clark https://www.aetv.com/real-crime/the-man-who-killed-halloween https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Clark_O%27BryanBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/kinda-murdery--5496890/support.

It was supposed to be a fun discussion about the greatest tiny monsters of all time, our own sweet 16 bracket of killer puppets and toilet monsters, but holy smokes do we go off on some insane and hilarious tangents in particular pink eye, Helen Keller and what might be our new business venture! Listen and prepare to laugh you fools!
