October 18 2025; 9am: The “No Kings” protests are happening in all 50 states and Washington DC today, and organizers expect millions of people to turn out. The movement comes in response to President Trump's agenda, including his National Guard deployments, immigration enforcement, and redistricting efforts. Hunter Dunn, who is helping organize the Downtown Los Angeles demonstration, and former GOP Rep. Joe Walsh, who is speaking at a “No Kings” rally in Connecticut, join “The Weekend” to discuss. For more, follow us on social media:Bluesky: @theweekendmsnbc.bsky.socialInstagram: @theweekendmsnbcTikTok: @theweekendmsnbcTo listen to this show and other MSNBC podcasts without ads, sign up for MSNBC Premium on Apple Podcasts. In the words of Timothy Snyder: “Do not obey in advance.” On October 18th, millions of Americans will gather across the nation to say ‘No' to authoritarianism. This episode opens with audio from my solo experience at the first No Kings Protest in Downtown Los Angeles back in June. I share excerpts and offer a felt-sense of peaceful resistance and love in action. Then I take a critical look at 'followership' and at how complacency can be another form of compliance. I tell on myself in this regard; two decades of new age naval gazing taught me to prioritize peace within (aka my personal comfort) over principled insistence upon justice for all. As a lead-in to the next few episodes, I present evidence that debunks the myth of meritocracy, and I question the presumption that leadership is the source of unity and the answer to all of humanity's problems. The episode concludes with a few actions each of us can take to actively question the leader-follower dyad in our everyday lives in real time.Referenced in this episode:On Tyranny, by Timothy SnyderJanaya Future Khan on IGFind a No Kings Protest near youSupport the showThe stories and opinions shared in this episode are based on personal experience and are not intended to malign any individual, group, or organization.Join The Deeper Pulse at Patreon for weekly bonus episodes + other exclusive bonus content. From the renovated Gensler offices in Downtown Los Angeles, Århus-born Danish architect MICHAEL MØLLER PEDERSEN recalls his plan to move to LA with his wife in 2005 for a ten-year trial period. 20 years later, as project architect and technical director, he discusses architecture as a focus on the human experience, the role of sustainability, what makes a good architect, his appetite for large, complex projects, and the topic of heritage as a Dane living in the US raising his young daughter.Michael selects a work by Vilhelm Hammershøi from the SMK collection.https://open.smk.dk/en/artwork/image/KMS3696(Photographer: Ryan Gobuty)----------We invite you to subscribe to Danish Originals for weekly episodes. Hour 3 (9.4.2025)FIFA has unveiled ticket prices and sale dates for the upcoming World Cup, but Los Angeles fans are disappointed — the city will only host eight games. Joining the show is Dean Sharp, “The House Whisperer” and custom home designer, host of HOME on KFI AM 640. Today's topic: foundation repairs and what to do when the bottom falls out. Dean explains the best options for fixing foundation issues, often tied to soil conditions or drainage problems. Meanwhile, Downtown Los Angeles — once revitalized during the boom of the Staples Center and new condo developments — now faces fresh backlash. Tenants are speaking out, calling some of the city's apartments “unlivable.”

Daniel Shemtob is the CEO and Founder of Snibbs, a company that creates ergonomically designed, slip-resistant footwear for professionals in healthcare and hospitality. He also created the acclaimed food truck brand, The Lime Truck, which gained national attention by winning Food Network's The Great Food Truck Race twice. Building on his culinary success, Daniel opened Hatch Yakitori + Bar in Downtown Los Angeles, offering a modern take on Japanese skewers. After losing his home in the 2025 Pacific Palisades Fire, he partnered with World Central Kitchen to provide meals and Snibbs footwear to those affected. In this episode… What does it take to overcome setbacks and emerge stronger than before? From losing everything in the LA fires to weathering the tumultuous economic downturns of the past decade, resilience seems to be the cornerstone of a successful life. But how does one cultivate such tenacity in the face of adversity? Daniel Shemtob, a celebrated chef and entrepreneur, shares the candid story of his entrepreneurial journey marked by extreme highs and lows. After filing for personal bankruptcy in his early 20s following a failed real estate stint, Daniel shifted toward passion-driven work, launching the now-famous Lime Truck. Years later, when COVID-19 decimated his catering business, he doubled down on Snibbs, his footwear company, and pivoted by giving away shoes to essential workers — an act that unexpectedly catalyzed massive growth. Even after losing his home in the 2025 LA fires, Daniel partnered with World Central Kitchen to serve thousands of meals and distribute Snibbs footwear, showing that purpose and action can power recovery. Tune in to this episode of the Smart Business Revolution Podcast as John Corcoran interviews Daniel Shemtob, CEO and Founder of Snibbs, about overcoming adversity and scaling resilient brands. Daniel discusses rebounding from personal bankruptcy, how COVID-19 forced him to pivot, the inspiration behind Snibbs, and what he learned from losing his home in the LA fires.
