Hello! And welcome back to yet another long in the oven but oh, so tasty episode of The Dana Gould Hour Podcast. Again, as I said last month it's a busy and hectic time here at Falcon's lair with season 3 of Dr. Z in pre-production and, as I said last month, another project with Mr. Goldthwait and road gigs and festivals and blah blah blah. But we're all working diligently. We don't dump shit episodes out there on you so sometimes it takes a bit longer thank you want it to so thank you for understanding. Our first guest today, is a returning champion. Burt is the co-author, along with Jeff Abraham of The Show Won't Go On, the true stories of performers and actors who have literally died on stage. Burt has a new book that he's written solo, it's autobiography of actor Lawrence Tierney. Lawrence Tierney broke the big time when he came out of obscurity to star as Dillinger in the 1945 films of the same name, and went on to a career playing tough guys and criminal psychos. Unfortunately for Mr. Tierney, it was not a big leap. Lawrence Tierney was in jail as much if not more as he was on the screen. He'd go up for drinking, fighting, fighting while drinking and drinking while fighting. Burt's new book, Lawrence Tierney, Hollywood's Real Life Tough Guy, tells the story of a truly larger then life genuine old school Hollywood nutball and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Also, comedian Zach Noe Towers is here, Zach was the co-host of the show Sex Before The Internet, I figured what's a lot of violence without at least a little sex. Zach is based here in LA and is incredibly funny. Zach Noe Towers. True Tales From Weirdsville takes a deep dive into origins and effects of the of the rumor, started in 1969, that Paul McCartney was dead. A rumor so pernicious that McCartney had to take to the covers of Time, Life and Rolling Stone to assure the world that he was not, in fact, dead.

Our favorite Witatty loser Joe DeFeo returns to the program to discuss another horrible film from his childhood. Bob(cat) Goldthwait stars as a hot new stock trader that seeks advice from his equine friend, played by a phoning-it-in John Candy. Topics discussed include: the immortality of Dabney Coleman, the puzzling cameos from Burgess Meredith and Gilbert Gottfried, and all the studio nonsense that went on behind the scenes Chat with the TMT Community on Discord! Even before the pandemic, Bobcat Goldthwait had one of the most fascinating careers in comedy history with, as he says, "selling out" first as a stand-up, then finding his way to be a beloved indie director with work ranging from World's Greatest Dad to God Bless America to Call Me Lucky to Jimmy Kimmel Live. Goldthwait continued along his own path as he moved from LA to the woods in Illinois to maintain his "day job" of doing stand-up comedy in order to make his small, but fiercely loved movies. On this week's TCB Field Report, Bobcat talks wonderfully in-depth with TCB's Jake Kroeger about the ever-changing landscape of comedy through film/TV/stage through all the decades he has been in comedy and what lies ahead in the decades to come. The twelfth episode of our season on the awesome movie year of 1992 features our future cult classic pick, Bobcat Goldthwait's Shakes the Clown. Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait and starring Goldthwait, Julie Brown, Tom Kenny, Blake Clark and Adam Sandler, Shakes the Clown was a critical and commercial failure that has since been reappraised and appreciated by a cult audience. We bring the summer to a close with a very silly "Savage" Steve Holland movie starring John Cusack as a cynical cartoonist and Demi Moore as the singer he helps to save her family home on Nantucket. Sure, it's frequently juvenile, but it's a fun movie, features Bobcat Goldthwait, Joe Flaherty, Joel Murray, and Curtis Armstrong. We ask why Goldthwait is funny, what's the deal with Demi Moore's hair, and what is up with William Hickey, who may or may not be in a Weekend-At-Bernies situation.

Holy cow! Not just one, but two special guest appearances in this week's episode. Talk about going the distance! Oh, and for those worrying that they'll have nothing left to look forward to after experiencing this godlike chapter of the Dunces mythos, I'll see to it personally that Mr. Goldthwait returns when the boys eventually cover Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja. It's related to Noah's ark… somehow, Disney's Hercules!

This week, The Plotaholics go old school with our original premise for the podcast: Bad FilmsThis week we REALLY dive into the sludge of the sewer. Thankfully we missed the Losers Club orgy, but we didn't come out completely unscathed. This week, we review the Bobcat Goldthwait film, Hot To Trot.In this film Goldthwait plays Fred. Fred's mom dies. His step dad is a dick. He inherits a talking horse voiced by John Candy. You can sort of imagine where it goes from there. Yeah. It's bad. Real bad. But...it's...it's just bad.Next week, we're doing something better. WE PROMISE!Support the show (https://plotaholics.com)
When they first started performing stand-up in the early 1980s, Bobcat Goldthwait and Dana Gould could not have been more different. And as they reveal in their new documentary ‘Joy Ride,' they “hated” each other's comedy. But over the years, their styles converged and now they tour the country together, telling hilarious stories from their wild pasts and making each other laugh as hard as their audiences do. In this episode, Goldthwait and Gould open up about their contentious past and reveal how a harrowing car accident on tour nearly cut their lives and careers short. They also share the truth behind Goldthwait's decades-long feud with Jerry Seinfeld, what Robin Williams was really like when the cameras weren't rolling, Gould's favorite jokes he wrote for ‘The Simpsons' and a lot more. These days, whenever someone criticizes anything or anyone, even things that everyone used to agree was awful such as life-threatening diseases or poverty, the rich and famous cold-heartedly mutter, “haters gonna hate” and go about their business. Apart from this being the most painfully redundant statement ever made by the rich and famous, it is also extremely hypocritical because the rich and famous are some of the biggest damn haters on the planet. Celebrities and politicians argue with each other on social media all the time, but they also demand respect from perfect strangers on social media as well. Much of this anti-cancel culture nonsense is just a bunch of bullies complaining about not being able to bully others any longer. But if you fight back against their bullying then you are the aggressor. A perfect example is the mass banning of Occupy Wall Street Twitter accounts by everyone's favorite pretend liberal Jack Dorsey. In 2018 Dorsey suspended several Occupy Wall Street accounts with no explanation. Twitter claimed it was trying to clean up accounts associated with Trump, but instead wiped out eighty accounts (with a combined 5 million followers) that were created as early as 2012, long before Trump came on the scene. Dorsey has flip flopped on cancel culture repeatedly, one minute championing internet free speech and the next banning accounts at will because, well…he can. It's not enough that Dorsey controls a successful company, he has to wipe out your tweets if you disagree with him too. Sounds like a sore winner to me. Many people who are successful are like this. They get in their heads that the things they say are the best because they have done well for themselves. There are all kinds of musicians doing this all the time. Just look at a list of these songs, all by rich people, basically bragging to their old friends about how awesome they are for having some dumb corporation buy their songs: "Gives You Hell" by The American Rejects, "What Goes Around Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake, "How Do You Like Me Now?" by Toby Keith, "Haters" by Hilary Duff, "Don't You Just Hate Those People?" by Jennette Mcurdy, "H.A.T.E.U" by Mariah Carey, "Jealous" by Nick Jonas (seriously though, no one is jealous of Nick Jonas), and "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. The irony of all of these songs is that they are decrying bullying while at the same time bullying the people who bullied them. I mean think about it. All of these people are now worth millions of dollars, they all live in mansions, they all have health insurance, the eat the best food, wear the best clothes, and hobnob with kings and queens. Haven't they taken over the role of bully now? They are making money by shit talking about their old friends on national television in front of millions of their adoring fans for crying out loud! Is that really brave? Is that what you call courage? Talking shit when you know you have millions of fans who will back you up regardless of how crazy you sound? Is that what we are now calling "gansta"? Is that really hood? Now anything anyone else has to add is “cancel culture”. Jerry Seinfeld has bemoaned cancel culture perhaps louder than anyone else. But he has also done a lot of canceling of his own. The comedian ran to the defense of his friend Michael Richards after Richards said “nigger” about 100 times, but he certainly was not about to defend Bobcat Goldthwait's opinions. Seinfeld went as far as to trash talk Goldthwait on his show “Comedians With Coffee in Cars”, stating that Bobcat was a “loser” and “not funny”. All of this because Bobcat told a joke about Seinfeld sleeping with a teenager, which is true by the way, a few decades back. Yeah, it's true that haters gonna hate, but a lot of times y'all don't realize that the biggest haters have hit sitcoms or TV specials. What those people are really communicating to us is that only the rich and famous deserve the luxury of free speech. Bunch of sore winners if you ask me. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/morecontentplease/support

This episode's guest is comedian Tony Casillas. Tony started performing stand up comedy in Dallas, Texas, during his senior year in college by going on stage and telling stories about his life. He has been able to evolve those stories into an act that has allowed him the opportunity to open up for comics like Jim Jeffries, Tj Miller, Orny Adams, Theo Von and Bobcat Goldthwait. He is also 1/2 of The Before and After Podcast with comedian Parker Slavens, where they recap funny stories, news headlines, and thoughts they had during the week. You can see Tony this Valentine's Day, as he headlines at The Dallas Comedy House. Tickets and more information about that show are available at www.dallascomedyhouse.com. Jimmy attended the press room for TruTV's new show Misfiits & Monsters only to find that show creator Bobcat Goldthwait was doing the press by himself! Bobcat talked about the creation of the show and what inspired him. He also dropped random amazing bits like that he's been working on a musical with Ray Davies of The Kinks! Jimmy also did a great 1:1 with the multi-talented singer/songwriter/cartoonist Lights. You may remember he also interviewed her last year and what a year it has been for her! She is always delightful and awesome! No regular format show over the next few weeks. Just the awesome and massive SDCC coverage!! Leave your iTunes comments! 5 stars and nothing but love! Also, get a hold of us! Thanks for listening!

In the new 8-episode truTV scripted anthology series "Bobcat Goldthwait's Misfits and Monsters", premiering July 11, each twist episode contains plenty of thrills and satire. Guest stars include Michael Ian Black, Bridget Everett, Dave Foley, Seth Green, Melissa Joan Hart, David Koechner, Danny Pudi and more. IndieWire's TURN IT ON podcast recently sat down with Goldthwait to discuss the new series, which is both timely and timeless as it tackles everything from sexual harrassment to a Trump-like political figure who eats toddlers, to a man haunted by the animated character he voices. We began by discussing the benefits of being able to tell so many stories over one season. (Music by Omar Khan and Hook Sounds.)

The conversation ranges on topics from the death of Robin Williams and Bobcat's unique friendship with him, why he set The Tonight Show on fire, how he went from an atheist to an agnostic, and why he thinks the worst thing he can be called is a professional.

"Bobcat Goldthwait directed this moving documentary about comedian and peace activist Barry Crimmins. The film is masterfully structured in such a way that it starts as a typical film about an artist, who a group of people believe more people should know. Comics who were given opportunities thanks to him or have memories of his early work appear on screen. Goldthwait then hits the audience with information about a horrific experience from Crimmins’ childhood, and the film is instantly transformed into something incredible...His brash wit and knowledge of current events produce material that still is edgy today. His material is inspired by a motivation for peace and justice...It is refreshing to know there are people in the world of comedy like Barry." - Kevin Gosztola on Shadowproof.com Instead of making Barry go through the plot of 'Call Me Lucky', we spend most of the time talking about the state of the modern comedy scene & how the Reagan-era never ended. For years, Bobcat Goldthwait wanted to make a movie about his mentor, Barry Crimmins. A stand-up comic with a taste for sharp political satire, Crimmins became an activist who testified before Congress, taking on AOL over the proliferation of child pornography on the Internet. Goldthwait tells how the film came together with help from his best friend Robin Williams.

Screen Talk came to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival this week. On Wednesday, Indiewire partnered with Airbnb for a live recording of the latest episode, which took place in front of a sold-out crowd at the Airbnb Haus on Main Street. Introduced by Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper, the episode opened with Kohn and Thompson discussing this year's festival buzz and their different approaches to prioritizing films over the course of the chaotic proceedings. Taking a cue from the Airbnb Haus' theme of "strangers meeting strangers," they reflected on the value of meeting new filmmakers and encountering fresh visions in the festival environment. Then, they spoke with Crystal Moselle, the director of "The Wolfpack," which is currently playing in the festival's U.S. documentary competition and was recently picked up by Magnolia Pictures. Moselle explained how she found the fascinating subjects of her movie, which revolves around a group of siblings forced to remain indoors for most of their lives while learning everything about the world from the movies. Finally, the hosts welcomed standup comedian and filmmaker Bobcat Goldthwait, whose documentary "Call Me Lucky" is also screening in competition. Goldthwait discussed the intentions behind his project, which focuses on outspoken political activist and comedian Barry Crimmins, as well as the role that Robin Williams played in getting the project off the ground. Goldthwait, who considered Williams his best friend, also discussed why he treasures his longtime friendship with the late actor. Later, Goldthwait elaborated on his newfound affinity for the independent film community. The episode concluded with an audience Q&A.
Comedian Dustin Meadows hosts a weekly show wherein he watches his favorite movies with other comedians who've never seen the film before. Dustin gets in the Christmas spirit with guests Tyler Sonnichsen and Sumukh Torgalkar when they tackle Bill Murray's take on the classic Charles Dickens tale, discussing their must watch annual Christmas movie traditions, why the BBC has such a boner for Christmas specials and Dustin defends Jingle All The Way. As the season trudges on, the JAAP hosts start seperating the wheat from the chaff by dropping shows. They say "see you later" to Nagi no Asukara, let the wheel of fate keep turning on BlazBlue, make the choice to say "no" to Noucome, and more. The group gushes about this season's Noitamina offerings, try and make sense out of Tokyo Ravens, and learn, once again, that few things on this world rival a girl's love for cake. Discussions end with talk of an industry saturated by Jeff Goldblum and attempts to say "Goldthwait."
