In Episode 6 of the NerDFW Podcast, the gents welcome a new cohost, talk about dinosaur games and movies, touch on Destiny's House of Wolves expansion, make more predictions about the Marvel movieverse and about the upcoming E3 press event, as well as issue each other a Five Nights at Freddy's challenge.
E3 looms large over the world of gaming, casting its formidable shadow over us all like a lumbering Godzilla made of polygons. It's only a few weeks away, but we begin our preparations now. First though, there's the week's news to get through, and there's enough to shake more than a few sticks at. Oculus have bought a company that will let them compete directly with Microsoft's Hololense; Need For Speed is poised to make a return; Resident Evil Zero is on its way to a console near you; and Halo 3: ODST is finally going to be making its way into the hands of poor owners of the Master Chief Collection. All of that plus fresh news on Darksiders 2, Iron Brigade, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection and The Witcher 3. That should fill you up nicely. The big 3 conferences at every E3 are Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony. We'll be taking a look back at last year's press conferences for the big three and see how they've fared in the year since and what they need to do to top or match their press conferences from last year. This week it's the turn of Sony who had a very impressive show last year. We'll talk about whether they've delivered on their promises, succeeded or failed, and what they could possibly say this year that will get us the most excited. There'll be a spot more tea this week before we get on to what we've been playing, and then we'll talk about Octodad: Dadliest Catch, Destiny: House of Wolves and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Definitely 3 of the biggest releases of the week... Well, not Octodad obviously, but if you're curious about how Destiny's House of Wolves expansion adds to the game, or whether The Witcher 3 is as good as the buzz suggests, then you've come to the right podcast! Starting off on what we'd call a downright weird foot, this episode is light on news, but that doesn't keep the HomeRow crew from sharing thoughts on if Destiny's House of Wolves will get any of us, or anyone at all back into the game, as well as discussing the concept of permanence in games. Joe used to get anxious when making decisions in games, but with age has decided to just go for it and not worry, while Doxy does her best to go back and play the polar opposite. We chat about Telltale games and their idea of permanence, and what a series like Call of Duty could do with the idea of permanent choices. Also every game needs the Nemesis System. Doxy also brings up a few games she has yet to try but can't wait in Killing Floor 2 and Besieged, while Brian puts in more time with Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, and Final Fantasy Record Keeper, a mobile game that has a great concept, but execution falls flat on. Games from the chattings: Destiny, Besieged, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Killing Floor 2, Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball, Shadow Warrior, Call of Duty, Battlefield: Hardline, Tropico 5, Dungeons 2, Final Fantasy Record Keeper, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
On today's episode, a new Monster Hunter spinoff is announced, Unity comes to the new 3DS, Destiny's House of Wolves is out May 19th, Project X Zone 2 is announced, and Resogun was headed to PS3 and Vita before Sony intervened. complex.computer
