Toy Story 5 has the band back together but facing an existential threat as Bonnie's interest in them wanes as she is introduced to technology. In a beautiful stroke of creative circularity, Toy Story 5 is scored by Randy Newman, who also provided the music for the first film.

Now that AI is such a concern, could this movie ever be made today? Plus, all the drama around the real life music duo, Die Antwoord, that starred alongside Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman, and Sigourney Weaver. The Knicks win in a crazy finish at Madison Square Garden. The World Cup kicks off in Mexico City today. Have you ever finished a game of Monopoly? Coors Light is selling a “taller boy” canister if you're looking to go pro. Hour 2: The first trailer is here for ‘The Social Reckoning.' One of the Property Brothers is getting a daytime TV gig. Professional wrestler and Canadian actor, Tyler Mane, is opening up about breast cancer. It's time to circle back on David Harbour. Dirty sodas are growing in popularity. Kids say inflation is killing dating - time to solo maxx. Plus, Sarah's son is loving China! Hour 3: European soccer fans are in the United States for the first time. They are returning home with ranch dressing. The celebrities showed up for the Knicks game last night, including Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift sounded great at the Toy Story 5 premier, but the haters are gonna hate. Triple digits are coming to the Bay Area. The Pentagon is locked down due to a “hazardous materials incident.” Corn on the cob season is here. A woman banned herself from casinos, and it might have cost her the jackpot. Thursday, June 11, 2026Josh is back in studio with Brock for another full morning of best-friend chaos, and the trending thread is all about the best and worst summer jobs people have ever had. Josh shares that working at Kwik Trip was one of his easier jobs, while his worst summer job was helping with drywall and insulation for his uncle's construction company—complete with itchy pink insulation that would not come off no matter how many showers he took.Listeners chime in with everything from cutting grass while allergic to pollen, working restaurant dish pits, doing construction in Norway, cleaning up awful maintenance jobs, working as a dockhand at a marina, caddying on the LPGA Tour, and even teaching juggling at summer camp. Brock also shares that his worst job was working at McDonald's for a month just to pay off a speeding ticket. The show gets into plenty of “What the Heck” stories, including police in Washington using new translation tech to communicate across 50 languages, FIFA banning vuvuzelas from the World Cup, and two guys in Los Angeles filming themselves hitting golf balls into traffic and buildings downtown like complete idiots.Brock and Josh also test how old they are with classic commercial jingles from Folgers, Band-Aid, Oscar Mayer, and Alka-Seltzer, then roll through random facts about moonwalking astronauts, the worst-rated beers in the world, laughter burning calories, Wyoming's tallest building, and the very strange sound effects used for the raptors in Jurassic Park.In the 7 AM Challenge, Josh plays a “what do these have in common?” game and manages to figure out clues involving wagons, weeds, pranks, flags, gardens, bowling alleys, and the oldest jewelry store in the United States. Later, the guys talk about Taylor Swift performing at the Toy Story 5 premiere with Randy Newman, her rumored bridesmaids, and Tom Hanks joking about colonoscopy prep competitions with Martin Short and Steve Martin. The episode also includes a good news story about a Canadian woman helping save her neighbor's life with CPR after his 12-year-old son came to her door for help. Brock and Josh then talk basketball, sore legs, backwards beach days, phrases people say wrong, celebrity gossip, Matt Damon becoming “Nomad” for charity, Supergirl's pierced ears, Machine Gun Kelly's tattoo regret, tiny towns, World Cup events in Northwest Arkansas, and things professionals should never say.The show wraps with Josh finishing out another morning in studio, plans for the lake, Suno songs, breakup-song talk, Olivia Rodrigo comparisons, and one last push for everyone to go buy some furniture at Sam's.

WHAT A NOSTALGIC AND BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE! Toy Story 1 Reaction & Review with Greg Alba and Paige Kimsey! With Toy Story 5 hitting theaters soon and Pixar completely back in the global spotlight with Toy Story 5 Toys vs Tech, Hoppers Pixar, and the larger Pixar 2026 movies conversation, we're diving back into the Pixar vault for the groundbreaking, historic masterpiece that started it all: Toy Story. Toy Story Full Movie Watch Along:   / thereelrejects   Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Apparel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ In this full movie review and reaction, Greg and Paige take a sentimental trip back to 1995 to re-evaluate the film that revolutionized computer-generated animation forever. We break down the absolute legendary performances of the main voice ensemble, including Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan) as the proud, vintage pull-string cowboy Woody, and Tim Allen (The Santa Clause, Home Improvement) as the delusional, high-tech space ranger Buzz Lightyear. Our hosts react to every iconic, highly quotable gag and groundbreaking sequence that this absolute staple of childhood cinema has to offer. We break down the high-stakes suspense of the bedroom birthday party reconnaissance mission, the hilarious gas station argument that leaves our duo stranded in the real world, and the chaotic survival sequence trapped inside Pizza Planet. We also dive into the terrifying, creative imagery inside Sid's bedroom, the beautifully emotional "I Will Go Sailing No More" existential realization sequence, and the breathless, high-octane rocket-powered moving van chase that brings the entire finale home. From the incredible world-building of a world where toys come alive to the timeless theme song by Randy Newman, this movie leaves us with an absolute treasure trove of nostalgia to unpack. As we continue our ultimate Pixar movie marathon and animation retrospective leading into Toy Story 5, we are looking back at the generational legacy of this cinematic milestone and breaking down exactly why its incredible script, heart, and pacing still clear so many modern animated movies today. #Toy Story Follow Greg Alba  / thegregalba    / thegregalba   Follow Paige Kimseyhttps://www.instagram.com/paige.popco... Haldane virtuosos team up for concert For the first time, longstanding Haldane pals Sofia Kelly and Delia Starr are performing their greatest hits together at an independent, one-off concert at St. Mary's Church in Cold Spring on May 31. In the fall, Kelly will attend the University of Cincinnati to study classical vocal music. Many selections on the program will highlight her dramatic, operatic style and are works she submitted on audition tapes for college applications and competitions, like attending the Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan and singing at the International InterHarmony Music Festival in Italy. In a video of the lieder "Die Stille Stadt" by Alma Mahler (wife of Gustav), recorded at St. Mary's and on the program for Sunday, she looks ready to vanquish a village as her booming voice resonates. Starr began plunking the piano at age 5 and is a fourth-generation musician. In addition to composing solo piano works in the classical vein, she wrote a piece at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute for a string quartet and will perform a "Piece for Clarinet and Piano" at the show (Katherine Filatov will accompany). Beyond their passion for European art music, the two share another bond: Their fathers are professional musicians. Composer and jazz pianist Daniel Kelly learned to play classical after Sofia cottoned on to the genre a couple of years ago, and will accompany her on a tune by Randy Newman and one of his originals based on a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. Eric Starr's father, Nelson, played trumpet in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Eric composes, leads Haldane's jazz performance program and teaches drums and piano at his Cold Spring studio. He also holds annual recitals at the Chapel Restoration, where Delia has played three solo shows. Kelly decided to attend a large school where she could minor or double-major in environmental studies. Starr, a junior, is applying to conservatories as well as universities and will major in composition, perhaps with a minor in piano performance. "It's nice to meet other people with different interests," says Starr. "I love music, but don't want to be trapped in a bubble with the same type of people." She's expanding her writing prowess beyond the piano because "it makes you a better candidate," she says. "I'm gearing up for tours and applications." Pecking out parts on the keyboard, she also plays back MIDI simulations of other instruments in her software program. "That's why piano is so great; all the notes are in front of you, and I use that to my advantage because it's easy to translate lines or chords for other instruments," she says. At the concert, Starr will perform her original music alongside pieces by Chopin and Beethoven. Her compositions hint at Brahms' cinematic style, and she admits an affinity for French impressionists like Fauré and Debussy. "I love film scores, and that may be something I get into," she says. Kelly and Starr crafted a thoughtful program that features guest artists, offers varied musical styles and contrasts vocals with instrumentals. "We've been talking about doing a concert together for so long, and it's now or never in our Haldane lives, so we're ready for a musical goodbye," says Kelly. "Delia and I share a sense of deep camaraderie in the music world, and we'll always be in the same orbit." St. Mary's Church is located at 1 Chestnut St. in Cold Spring. The free concert begins at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a reception.

#112 - Bomethius

Bomethius is the baroque pop project led by Jonathan Hodges, a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter based in Chicago. Hodges draws from decades of classical training to craft a mischievous brand of chamber rock that echoes the sounds of Andrew Bird, Low Roar, Paul Simon, Sufjan Stevens, Randy Newman, and Elliott Smith.   Tropopause, Bomethius' second release on Chicago-based indie label Oakley Avenue Records, arrives with the sort of effortlessness that can only be born from experience. Working with the same core of collaborators from his prior record, Borrowed Time, and following years of diligent live performances, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Hodges has opened a new, louder, and more compact chapter of his nearly decade-long baroque pop project.    In a discography that maintains a clear continuity aesthetically and thematically—with each release in conversation with its predecessors—Tropopause serves as a welcoming entry point for new listeners. For one, it's Hodges' most concise statement. A trim-the-fat approach to composition for this album produced a 10-song tracklist and 26-minute runtime, and the lean result is both digestible and direct. There's also a greater clarity to the writing as Hodges covers similar lyrical territory to his most recent releases. “The cycle, against which most of my music is set, borbles on,” he says, but on Tropopause, he's been afforded time and distance from this cycle, which allows for a wider perspective unburdened by still-sharp pains. Like the meteorological term from which it draws its name, the record represents a threshold in one's life and the areas on either side of it—all of which can be best appreciated from a bird's-eye view.     Lastly, Tropopause carries Hodges' most refined and arresting pop earworms to date. Rhythms and guitar lines chug in lead single “Thunderbird.” An explosive Weezer-esque guitar solo closes “I'm Out.” The piano-led “The Clown” hearkens to the playful yet biting ballads of Randy Newman and Fiona Apple. Guest harmonies from Hodges' sister, Caroline, dance through some of the record's quieter moments (“Over,” “Almost,” “Scorched Earth”), and the album ends with what's sure to be one of the most memorable violin pieces in the Bomethius catalog. The closing moments wordlessly represent that barrier between the turmoil below and the lucidity above, as explored by the preceding songs. It's a memorial of divine goodness, a reminder that it doesn't have to be that serious, and a nudge to pet a dog, and go outside, and chase pigeons and squirrels. Sometimes, that's all you need to do.   Tropopause releases June 7th on Oakley Avenue Records.

This week, Julia Turner and Dana Stevens are joined by Slate's own Rebecca Onion to discuss The Devil Wears Prada 2, BEEF season 2, and the NYT's best living songwriters package with Slate's music critic Carl Wilson. Twenty years on, we return to the world of The Devil Wears Prada. In the sequel, Andy, Anne Hathaway's character, must save Runway Magazine from the forces of capital, who are selling the Vogue-analogue for parts, as Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly struggles to hang on to her own power. The movie has a lot to say about the state of journalism and media with plot lines seemingly ripped from the gossip pages, but does it all come together in the edit? We discuss. Then, the second season of A24's anthology series BEEF stars Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan as a volatile millennial couple who enter into a feud with a younger couple, played by Cailee Spaeny and Charles Melton. Set at a rich Californian golf resort and its environs, the show satirizes class and generational resentments as the characters scramble to claim the scraps of their betters at the expense of everyone else. The characters are mostly unlikeable, and the premise might be a little less original than the first season, but given BEEF's stacked cast and pedigree, does the show sizzle? Finally we're joined by Carl Wilson, Slate's music critic and author of the newsletter “Crritic!” to discuss the New York Times package: The 30 Greatest Living Songwriters. Carl submitted a ballot for the list, and the polished version isn't too far from his submission. He gets into his picks and discusses what the list is saying about the field of songwriting and the idea of a songwriter as it's been expanded to include non-traditional instrumentation and digital composition. But like all lists it has sparked debate about the inclusions (Carole King, Stevie Wonder) the exclusions (Randy Newman, Liz Phair, David Byrne) and whether Taylor Swift's inclusion was solely to get an interview. Together with Carl, we try and make sense of the list and talk about our favorites. We are so excited to kick off our Interviews at Sea series with DAWES! We had the chance to talk to brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith aboard Cayamo: A Journey Through Song during their 18th voyage in March 2026 in front of a packed audience. The guys have been performing as Dawes since 2009, but the band has been a duo since their 2024 album, 'Oh Brother.' The Goldsmiths have been singing and playing together their whole lives inspired by their musician father, Lenny Goldsmith, who toured as the lead singer of Tower of Power in the 1980s. Taylor was never told it was hard to play guitar or sing, so he just did it. He always knew he wanted to be a professional musician. We talk about the ways his musical career turned out as not quite what he had expected. We also touch on how their singing has evolved over the course of their lives together. Both Taylor and Griff are fathers, so of course we asked about the freedom that comes with priorities changing in their lives and careers – as well as what toys they may have regretted ever letting their kids have. One thing following Dawes around for the past year is the aftermath of the January 2025 Eaton Fire in Los Angeles. Both brothers and their parents suffered immense loss due to the flames sweeping through Altadena, destroying thousands of homes and causing over 30 deaths. Griffin's son was born two weeks after the fire, a month early. Dawes became the musical face of the disaster with an emotional performance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' and opening the GRAMMYs with Randy Newman's “I Love LA” with a veritable supergroup: Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, St. Vincent, and John Legend. The brothers get into what the experience taught them about healing and reaching a place where this tragedy does not define them. We hear a bit about Taylor's love of collecting first editions and his fear of the comment section and we wrap up with a fun "Which One?" lightning round. In this episode (Part 4 of a 4-part series edited down from a 5 1/2 hour interview), Lenny Waronker takes a deep-dive stroll along with host Dave Gebroe through his entire career, with priceless commentary and stories peeled off along the way. Legendary producer and Warner Brothers studio head Lenny Waronker is a record producer and music industry executive. As the president of Warner Brothers Records, and later, as the co-founder and co-chair of DreamWorks Records, Waronker was noted for his commitment to artists and his belief that "music, not money, was still number one." In 2025, Waronker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Ahmet Ertegun Award category for non-performing industry professionals.  Part 4 focuses on the first album Lenny ever produced, Side 2 of Van Dyke Parks' legendary debut LP Song Cycle. Lenny once said: “To be associated with Song Cycle, even now, is more important to me than 99% of the hit records I've been involved with.” Parts 2 & 4 are an absolute dream come true for fans of this record. Here are just a few of the many things that Lenny discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast: The track on the LP that Van Dyke referred to as “like stepping from one kind of music into something else”; How Randy Newman feels about Nilsson Sings Newman, according to Lenny; A wildly divergent digression during which I discover the very direct link between The Beau Brummels and Rickie Lee Jones; An overview of Song Cycle's ad campaign, one of the most memorable and least conventional music industry experiments of all time; An in-depth deep dive on every song off Side Two of Song Cycle; The early days of getting Ry Cooder & Randy Newman's careers off the ground at Warner Brothers; Whether or not Van Dyke invented MTV a decade before its time; And an in-the-moment eulogy for Brian Wilson, who had died only days before the taping of this episode. Discograffiti is the deep-dive podcast for music obsessives. In this episode, Mark Linett takes a deep-dive stroll along with host Dave Gebroe through his entire career, with priceless commentary and stories. Legendary producer and audio engineer Mark Linett is best known for his remixing and remastering of The Beach Boys' catalog. Since 1988, he's been the engineer of choice for Brian Wilson's recordings. In 1996, Linett created the first true stereo mix of Pet Sounds. He's also co-produced nearly all of the band's archival releases, including 1997's The Pet Sounds Sessions, 1998's Endless Harmony Soundtrack, 2003's Hawthorne, CA, and 2011's The Smile Sessions, as well as the Feel Flows (2021) and Sail On Sailor (2022) box sets.  In addition to earning three Grammy Awards, he was nominated for Best Engineered Album for his work on 2004's Brian Wilson Presents Smile. He's also worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Los Lobos, Rickie Lee Jones, and Randy Newman.  Here are just a few of the many things that Mark discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast: Mark's first few unillustrious gigs on his path to break into the music industry; His early work milking the Jimi Hendrix catalog; Mark's love of The Beach Boys leading up to his work on Brian's debut 1988 solo album; Mark's genius brainstorm of releasing The Beach Boys catalog as those genius celebrate “two-fer” releases; Assembling The Pet Sounds Sessions and The Smile Sessions; And the serendipitous story of how he wound up in this industry in the first place. ICE's New Disturbing Low. Is NATO Dead? Thoughts on the End of the Iraq War. Snowpocalypse ‘26. Garry Newman is Something Good. And So Are Our Allies. On this special bonus episode of Independent Americans, host Paul Rieckhoff cuts through a blizzard of news and chaos with retired four-star General Barry McCaffrey. From Trump at Davos mocking allies and floating military action toward Greenland, to ICE crackdowns stretching from Minneapolis to Maine and talk of deploying the 11th Airborne toward American cities, it is a deep, unflinching look at a country on the brink of something very dangerous. McCaffrey details how the Trump White House has shattered global trust, why he believes NATO as we knew it is effectively dead, and how turning ICE and federal law enforcement into camouflaged, armored shock troops erodes vital trust between cops and communities. He explains the real-world implications of Trump's threats to “wipe Iran off the face of the earth,” his pirate-like seizures of Venezuelan oil, and his efforts to use the Army-Navy game, the National Guard, and active-duty forces as partisan political props. Paul and the General also dig into the quiet end of the U.S. troop presence in Iraq, the lessons of Vietnam and the War on Terror, the danger of believing war can be easy or bloodless, and the collapse of once-strong national security institutions. You'll hear McCaffrey's blunt assessment of Trump as a lawless, destabilizing commander in chief, his concern that the United States now looks like a “predator nation,” and his warning that law enforcement and the military are being dangerously politicized in ways that will take at least a decade to repair. Paul weaves in his own on-the-ground perspective—from CNN and NewsNation hits to his work with American Veterans for Ukraine and his fight against ICE abuses that are traumatizing kids like five-year-old Liam Ramos—alongside moments of hope, from Randy Newman's music to stories of French allies who promise to “be there” when America is in trouble. It is a conversation that embodies the five I's—independence, integrity, inspiration, information, and impact—at a time when Americans are increasingly independent and hungry for trustworthy voices and real perspective. Because every episode of Independent Americans with Paul Rieckhoff breaks down the most important news stories--and offers light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's independent content for independent Americans. In these trying times especially, Independent Americans is your trusted place for independent news, politics, inspiration and hope. In the mid-sixties, he was designer for The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera House, where he produced a gold foil covered program for the anniversary Royal Gala attended by her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. At the age of 22, Kosh was responsible for designing the innovative entry portal to the “Young & Fantastic” avant garde art and sculpture exhibition on The Mall in London's West End. Following his work for The Opera House, he met John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1968 as they had admired his work as art director of Art & Artists magazine. They invited him to meet them one evening at Hammersmith Hospital, where Yoko was recuperating. Shortly thereafter they offered him a desk at Apple Records at 3 Saville Row. His first project was the “War Is Over (if you want it)” Christmas card, which led to the worldwide WAR IS OVER billboard campaign that continues to this day. He designed The Beatles' Get Back picture book with the Let It Be album package, the Abbey Road album cover, John & Yoko's elaborate Wedding Album box set, and Hey Jude. Kosh was one of the few attendees at the Beatles' farewell rooftop concert. In this soulful and unfiltered conversation, singer-songwriter Mike Maimone—a former accountant turned queer creative force—shares how love, loss, and midlife reinvention shaped his music and life. From finding love across an age gap with late partner Howard Bragman, to channeling grief into his upcoming album and book, Guess What, I Love You (out February), Mike opens up about rediscovering purpose after heartbreak. Together, Rick and Mike dive into healing, queer resilience, and what it means to live unapologetically authentic—no fears, no excuses, no apologies. Three Key Takeaways Reinvention knows no age limit: Mike's switch from accounting to full-time musician proves it's never too late to follow your authentic rhythm. Love isn't defined by age—it's anchored in shared values and authenticity; Mike and Howard's story shows how connection outlasts external assumptions. Grief can become creative fuel: Mike transformed loss into art, launching an album and book that honor memory by turning pain into performance.  About Mike Originally a business school graduate and accountant, Mike Maimone made his way into full-time music through Chicago's blues scene, drawing comparisons to legends like Randy Newman and Leon Russell. He has since performed more than 100 shows annually, appearing at festivals such as Lollapalooza, Riot Fest, and Summer Camp, while sharing stages with Blues Traveler, Plain White T's, and Company of Thieves. His music has been placed on TV soundtracks and even featured at Wrigley Field. In 2023, Maimone released Borrowed Tunes, Vol. 2, followed by sold-out shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago, with proceeds benefiting The Trevor Project. A live album, Songs for You, Alive in Chicago, followed in early 2024. His forthcoming album Guess What? I Love You, available for pre-order in limited-edition vinyl and CD formats, will include handwritten lyrics, liner notes, and photos, further underscoring the deeply personal nature of the project.
