What if we told you Universal's Epic Universe is the most educational field trip a teacher could plan—and we (almost) prove it? Welcome back to Crying In My Car, a podcast for teachers! Our hosts Devin Siebold and James Yon are joined by special guest content creator Lo, and they make a compelling case for turning Universal's Epic Universe into your next educational school field trip. Physics? Stardust racers have you covered. Bloodborne pathogens? Absolutely done with Monsters Unchained. Communism and child labor? Oddly enough, yes but tune in to find out by which attraction. So how is Florida's newest theme park doing? We got to go and we have a lot of personal opinions, from tall-guy ride struggles to the real reason Dracula's allergic to garlic, whether you've gone or are still waiting to grab your tickets, you don't want to miss this insight to this truly epic park. Now we have more going for us than just theme park excitement, for example we have some thoughts about the French president and his wife who is a teacher. We don't want to give away too much, but let's just say their relationship is interesting to say the least. 1180. In this episode, we break down the massive news of the Elden Ring live-action movie currently in development. A24 is teaming up with the legendary George R. R. Martin and acclaimed director Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Civil War) to bring FromSoftware's dark fantasy world to life. We dive into Garland's filmography, what makes him a compelling choice for the project, and share personal experiences (and struggles) with the game. Plus, we toss around dream casting ideas and speculate on whether this could finally be the accessible storytelling version of Elden Ring we've been waiting for.Timestamps and Topics:00:00 – Introduction to the Elden Ring movie00:05 – Director Alex Garland's filmography and style00:16 – Why Garland is a great fit for the adaptation00:22 – Personal confession: playing Elden Ring is tough00:29 – Hopes for a more accessible story in film format00:35 – Dream project idea: a Bloodborne movie next00:40 – Listener question: Who would you cast in the Elden Ring film?Key Takeaways:Elden Ring is being adapted into a live-action movie by A24.The director is Alex Garland, known for visionary sci-fi and psychological thrillers.George R. We're gamers, we're passionate… but we're also human and that means there are some iconic games we've somehow never played. This episode, we're making some hilarious (and maybe painful) confessions about the legendary titles still sitting in our digital backlog. From The Witcher 3, Bloodborne, and Persona 5… to chill, artsy comfort games like Gris and Spiritfarer—we're breaking down why we skipped them, which ones we only watched, and the cozy games we admire but still haven't touched.
This is an episode about games we play while focusing on something else, or having something on in the background while we game. Scientifically this is probably our most "zoomer" episode, but putting "zoomer" in scare quotes does bring us back from the brink a bit. We don't make the news; we merely report and dissect it. So it's not our fault that this week's episode focuses quite a bit on some older topics come alight, starting with a new Helldivers 2 postmortem. Developer Arrowhead's CEO recently gave an interview, displaying a surprising level of accountability and levelheadedness about the ups and downs of their mega-popular game. Then, we talk a whole lot about Nintendo, because literally half of our listener inquiries this week were on the topic of Switch 2. Switch's successor is a mere months away, and while there's no doubt a lot of excitement, there also seems to exist an unusual amount of skepticism, and even anger and animosity. Will Nintendo be able to capture its first generation-to-generation success story since NES and SNES? Or are we looking at more of the same-old same-old? After, we get into rumors of yet another The Last of Us-related re-release, a mysterious physical edition at a premium price, but with contents unknown. Have we had enough, already? Other news includes data on Xbox's publishing performance on PS5, fresh sales and player numbers for the likes of Death Stranding and Atomfall, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! With the reveal of The Duskbloods on Switch 2 and because there's no Bloodborne news seemingly ever, is it clear that FromSoft has beef with Sony? Should we be worried about the survival of Ubisoft's studio Massive, and thus the future of The Division? Are physical game gimmicks getting awfully close to jumping the shark? How did we accidentally appear in a popular YouTube series about bad drivers? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.
