Home Row is a podcast of three folks from different backgrounds of gaming, with totally different likes and dislikes, who jump on and blast opinions in your ears. Each week we take a news story, game we played, or some sort of gaming related revelation and break it down, usually passionately. Pass…
Joe McCallister, Zer0Doxy, Brian Bentley
Oh my god we're back again. Brothers sisters everybody, and friends? Admission - audio quality is awful because Joe is a dumb dumb and had the wrong mic selected. We're not your source for news for E3 so we're going to talk about what we're playing and a little bit about what's going on. Our E3 reactions, analysis, and arguments are coming early next week in a rare double does of HomeRow so check back! This week we talk the Kojima Korner and his exit from Konami, new Death Stranding and what is a whale doing.Allison Road has gone bye bye :( and we're not pumped - but we read too much into words on Twitter anyway. This is really the only news we've got, and it's a bummer.
WE'RE BACK AGAIN! We know you don't get sick of it so we came back and these hiatus' might just happen when you least expect them. There's a bit of news, our buddy Kojima decided 3 weeks was long enough to be quiet, and we played a ton of games. So many that we can't list them here so you'll need to check the whole video out? (Ok just one...Arkshot is pretty neat).
Joe, Doxy and Brian did episode 30 in style with their monthly Live Show! We talk the gamut of everything from Virtual Reality to Video Games to Hot Pockets. Want to know our favorite fast food french fries? Guess you'll have to listen.Doxy played The Long Dark and talked about watching Flamebreak. Joe is playing MLB 16 The Show, but no one cared, as well as Dark Souls III, which everyone cared muchly about. Brian played Nights of Azure and Marble Mountain and goofed around with his new Gear VR headset. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/homerowpodcast
In this exciting and thrilling episode of the Homerow podcast, not only are we joined by the incomparable, the inconceivable, the in-effing-credible Deafinition, but ALSO we've got PlayStationVR pricing, specs, and a release date. The XBox One is going to be modular (probably), Windows 10 will get more love than ever from Microsoft in a gaming sense, and Pewdiepie goes on Conan to mixed reactions. We have some pretty typical Homerow tech issues on this show, as is tradition but we also hear about how Stardew Valley is taking the world by storm, including Doxy and Deafinition - how we can't stop playing the Division but there are cracks in the surface if you look too close, and Quiglin is cleaning up the backlog from 2015 with some big ones like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Rise of the Tomb Raider. Deaf talks about his love for WoW and Rift while Doxy contemplates a new video adventure for the masses in one of those lovely MMORPG's.Quiglin put up an extraordinary piece with some great sourcing on Coin-op regarding violence in video games you should all check out this instant; http://coin-op.tv/violence-video-games-2016-opinions/Deafinition - https://www.twitch.tv/deafinition // https://twitter.com/deafinition // https://www.youtube.com/user/DeafinitionDoxy - https://twitter.com/zerodoxy // https://twitch.tv/zer0doxy // https://www.youtube.com/zer0doxyQuiglin - https://twitter.com/quiglin Joe - https://twitter.com/joemccallister
Consistency isn't our strong suit - but we're back with our E3 reactions. Joe takes full responsibility for this late posting and feels pretty awful about it :(We hit it all - God of War, Death Stranding (KOJIMA KORNER!!!), Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, Horizon Zero Dawn, notable exclusions to the show, who focused on what and how, and some of the discussion might surprise you ( Doxy not necessarily into God of War? What?!)We've been playing stuff, sure - but these past few weeks have been so jam-packed with news we thought we'd skip that segment this week and get back to it next time. LIVE SHOW COMING SOON! Doxy - http://www.Twitch.tv/Zer0Doxy // http://Twitter.com/zerodoxyBrian - http://www.Twitch.tv/Quiglin // http://www.Twitter.com/quiglinJoe - http://www.Twitch.tv/JoeMcCallister // http://www.Twitter.com/joe_mccallister
Doxy, Joe, and Brian are back to talk about the recent announcements of Titanfall 2 and Amazon's Lumberyard. Of course, you can expect the train to fly off the rails at many points as there is no Kojima in the news this week and not all of us can clap with one hand.We also talk about the games we've been playing this week. Gushing ensues when Doxy announces she may have found her new favorite game - Warhammer End Times Vermintide. Brian isn't quite as enthusiastic as he has been cleaning up his playthrough of Assassin's Creed Syndicate. He also played EA Early Access of Unravel. Check out his Unravel video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoD6rvEonhsJoe is back on the wagon and avoided Battlefield Hardline. He played Dying Light: The Following DLC. Spoiler: He really likes it. Lastly, Joe dives into Until Dawn.Brian also makes a huge confession. (admitted clickbait)
On this, the epic 27th entry in the odyssey of the Home Row podcast we welcome Alpacapatrol, our esteemed guest and nobleman. Slow news week – but that won’t stop KOJIMA KORNER!! The DICE Summit will feature talks from Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro about the creative process as well as Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford – check out some of the cool past talks from what is basically TED talks for games here (there’s one with JJ Abrams and Gabe Newell!) : http://www.dicesummit.org/ Brian went to PAX South – which was awesome and saw a TON of great games. Gushing about games like Umbrella Corps, Street Fighter V, Moving Hazard, Dead Star, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Stories: Path of Destinies, Marble Mountain, Enter the Gungeon and Omnibus. We learned there’s a thriving and passionate bus simulator community, Re/Core developers are hard at work on a really cool space game in the interim, and SF:V has some incredible artwork.Brian also got to try the HTC Vive with the aforementioned Marble Mountain, and this spawned a chat about VR yet again, which Alpacapatrol had some unique observations on what could happen that we’ve not heard before, while Doxy and Joe are still hype – Brian is showing his first signs of apprehension, or perhaps major bummage that VR might be a bit price prohibitive.Alpacapatrol has been playing Darkest Dungeon in the not-so-patient wait for XCOM 2. We found out that Alpacapatrol has about the same gripes that Brian did, finding a few things a little annoying, but realizing the game is overall very solid. He’s also been on some Adventure Capitalist as mobile fix for the time being. Doxy has been all over Might and Magic III – and everyone agrees it is awesome. While she wants more time, and finds it a bit brutal, it’s awesome and she can’t wait to get more going.Joe gushes about The Division after admitting he has a Battlefield and Halo problem again. The Division is shaping up to be something great after Joe got about 20-ish hours on two different platforms and is utterly impressed. Also impressive is that Joe went all tactical speak just like the stupid Ubisoft videos from the past few years. Alpacapatrol - www.twitch.tv/alpacapatrol / http://www.youtube.com/alpacapatrol
The gang is back - and back at it in spectacular fashion. In what is technically a very sound show (a first, ever) Brian struggles with Cincinatti ISP problems and illustrates the importance of high res video. CKD joins the group coming in hot with his GOTY's which include Undertale, Witcher 3, Dropsy, MGS V: The Phantom Pain, LISA, and Fallout 4 - even though the last patch broked his controls. The group chats about Oculus Pricing - a somewhat shocking discussion really - EA not having a traditional E3 press conference, the Wii U and Nintendo, and Kojima is on a world tour - but that's about it. Doxy has been all about Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, and it's "crazy dope" but the fusion of Dragon Age and Dark Souls comes out in the RPG in beautiful fashion - Brian and Joe have played as well and gush about how cool the game really is.CKD has been on Darkest Dungeon, which he's still a fan of but not a fan of the RNG and it can be brutal as always. Also getting a share of the time was Mad Max - which Joe and CKD hit on the incredible apocalyptic world, the look and feel, and more are nailed - but the game overall has a great Mad Max vibe, and it does movie properties well - Mad Max is an example of a very solid game, but doesn't really excel too crazily. Quigs has been on more Lego Dimensions - taking his sweet time through the Ghostbusters and Dr Who levels, of which he has two totally different impressions. Also on the list was Resident Evil 0 HD Remastered. Joe and Brian are on the same page here having both played it just feels a bit weird, leaves some things out and overall is an awesome Resident Evil game, but there are qualifiers when recommending it.Joe got time into Uncharted and Until Dawn - Uncharted getting the lion's share of time it really hit a lot of cool notes for him, and will probably be the go-to for the future. Until Dawn hit the right spots as well but didn't get the full treatmentCKD - Twitter // Tumblr (art!)Doxy - Twitch.tv/Zer0Doxy // Twitter -Brian - Twitch.tv/Quiglin // Twitter -Joe - Twitch.tv/JoeMcCallister // Twitter -
After a holiday hiatus, your favorite hosts, Doxy, Joe, and Brian are back to discuss their favorite games of 2015 and the games they are most looking forward to in 2016.
Tech issues abound we cannot be stopped from doing a show! Somehow, some way Hideo Kojima weasels his way once again into the Homerow Podcast. Since he's Joe's personal hero, we talk more about his announcement and new partnership and where we would like to see his efforts. The team is all over the board in terms of what we've played this week, including big games and the not so big ones. Final Fantasy comes up, as well as the Wii U and what Nintendo might do next.
Or "Cincinatti is just the most depressing place". Everyone but Joe is insane, Chili is the only cold-weather food. Lasagna? LASAGNA?! What are you people doing with your lives? Our very special guest this week is CKD - find him over at https://twitter.com/CommodoreKDIn another typical December, news is light but that's good - cus we be playin games y'all. Doxy got time with Star Wars Battlefront and was absolutely in love with it. She's on the same page that everything about the game is engaging and just plain cool Star Wars stuff. Brian and Joe want to see when she might hit that wall of "well that's all there is" but it seems like her wide-eyed adoration for the Star Wars she got to jump into will make that later, rather than sooner. Our esteemed guest CKD played a bit of Just Cause 3, and is noting some pretty glaring differences in the style of Just Cause 3. While some things were taken out, the game is "still Just Cause, and still fun." and describes it as "everything explodes all the time". Joe and CKD gush about how there are some things that are a little off, but the overall game is a ton of fun, and designed to just let you go crazy in the best ways. The gang gets into a discussion then about open world games and driving controls and different mechanics; example being GTA V and the handling for each car model, while still being a huge open world. We stop quick to talk about Rainbow Six Siege and how no one on the show is playing it. Joe played a while back but never got the itch to buy the full product and it still doesn't get that "full experience" feel across.Brian played a ton of board games recently and gushes about his wife lying to him and it being totally okay. Brian is slogging through Sword Art Online: Lost Song but unfortunately it's just not doing it, the characters and enemies are still quite same-y, the story is a bit cliche, but there is some saving grace in the flying, but it's few and far between.Brian and Joe have Gears Remastered on deck but haven't played - which spins into a sweet discussion about how the use of "COME ON" plays into the game, and how Gears wore out for a bit, but now it feels like time to go back. Doxy says "I'm never not going to be excited for a Gears game". While Brian isn't sold on the creepy aspects, the rest of the crew reminisces about how that's always kind of been part of the series. CONTEST! Sub and get your friends to! We’re putting everyone into a drawing for a huge prize pool of codes for all platforms when we reach 500 subs – we’re trying to get our vanity URL so we can ditch this one > https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzSjWa67DQ7FcF-CwVc14MQ Follow the Twitter too for updates and of course just awesomes; Twitter! Just Kidding! We ain’t done, not by a long shot. This week – it’s more microtransaction garbage in a game that’s not even done yet! Killing Floor 2 has added the option for sweet sweet real bucks to be used for items, and as expected, Reddit handles it with grace. We dive into what is acceptable and what’s just the word for paying for the things. Also we talk at length about Kotaku, as they’ve put up a piece that at first blush seems a bit like a “yeah you guys do you” but after further inspection comes off a bit more “what did you expect?”. It’s a complicated issue which only the most analytical and critical of pundits can analyze with depth…so we gave it a shot anyway. Doxy has been playing some Noct – a creepy and sublime top-down game where you’ve got to work together using arcade combat to solve puzzles. She’s digging it for sure but wants to get more time in before really rendering a judgement. Also on the docket for Doxy…the Dox-et if you will – is SoulHunt a creepy take on the hide and seek phenom that came out of Garry’s Mod, players can inhabit objects while avoiding a clown in a hospital. The clown can hear your heartbeat, and you can stay your heartbeat for a few seconds in order to hopefully keep your soul alive as a cup for a few minutes more. Brian is all over some Star Wars Battlefront, and as is the general consensus with the game – it’s mostly awesome, but can start to show its lack of depth and content after a few hours. All that being said though Brian and Joe gush about how engrossing and engaging it is as a Star Wars experience in the moment to moment gameplay. It’s only when you realize you’ve only got four real maps, and not a lot of drive to keep going that it becomes a bummer, but by then the next game starts. Also on for Brian is Sword Art Online: Lost Song where he’s pretty much got some of the same feelings as Battlefront, where it’s great to start but after a bit the rough edges pop up and it just starts to wear. Walking through characters, recycled enemies, and a general feeling of being the wrong kind of time machine make this one not-too-hot on his list for the time being, but he’s not saying it’s total garbage. Joe has been playing more Fallout 4 and spares us the song and dance, but assures us that while it’s still a 5/5, he’s continuing the trek on PC and loving it even more with a solid framerate and making some crazy choices for Barb the wasteland badass. He’s also just reviewed The Crew: Wild Run, and it redeems a lot of what made The Crew so blah at launch, although it’s still held back by the same chains that held the original back – microtransactions and a lack of real collection of a stable of cars. Wild Run introduces some really cool stuff with monster trucks, motorbikes, drifting, and drag racing, all of which Joe thinks would’ve made The Crew a standout racer if it was there at launch, but it wasn’t and that might hurt Wild Run in notoriety.Doxy - Twitch.tv/Zer0Doxy // Twitter Brian - Twitter // Twitch.tv/Quiglin Joe - Twitch.tv/Joe_McCallister // Twitter
It's not the clip show you've been waiting for, it's Doxy, Joe and Brian talking about the 2 big releases of the week in Rise of the Tomb Raider and Fallout 4.Thanks to CKD for calling out that we forgot the link; https://discord.gg/0dXwwssNFV25gGjS
*If you're listening/reading and want a live show the week of Fallout to talk about it as well as Tomb Raider, let us know! Tweet at twitter.com/homerowpodcast!In this episode we anxiously await our copies of Fallout 4, instead we have to revisit Konami because they can't stay out the news. Konami LA is no more, and we muse about the bummer it is - Joe was at this studio last year playing Metal Gear Solid V and feels really weird about remembering faces that now have no job. The crew's thoughts are with the team there and as they're a super talented team, we hope they get picked up quick. The topic of throttling and bad internet come up as Brian turns into RoboQuiglin4000 a few times and we side track into rants about how the US internet is just...just the worst. #comcastkillsThe crew then moves over to how leaks are bad, and generally just bad form. As the discussion moves on they break down the difference between a leak and a spoiler, the effect on gamers, and the unintended super bummer that comes for the developer trying to hold things close to the chest. After a few big bummers we talk about the games that are coming up that are just pure excite - Star Wars Battlefront, Just Cause, Uncharted - we're in for a great few months folks, and the Home Row crew cannot wait to chat about them with you. Brian's been playing a lot of Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and finds himself wanting to go back - which is more than a few of the past entries can say. The people that populate London hold some interest and tell some fun stories, as well as seem to be interesting enough.Doxy is all about Until Dawn and loves the hell out of it - she basically freaks out saying that every and all people should play. Binding Of Isaac Afterbirth is next up, and as is probably par for the course; she loves it. She's playing more and finding some new twists that aren't necessarily her favorite - but that doesn't sway the opinion; it's awesome. We're also making a custom bundle of sorts when we hit 500 subscribers on YouTube! Tell your friends and when we hit 500 we'll enter all our subs into a pool and give away a ton of stuff!!
An amazing live show, duh - we love our chat...so...SO much it really can't be understated - and with our transition to our own, new channel at twitch.tv/homerowpodcast - we're doing once a month live shows. This one was a bit rough as it was full of tech issues right away, and Joe lost audio, but thankfully the viewer count kept climbing, and our amazing audience carried us through! This week we chat about the SAG-AFTA voice actors union ( a bit of a late breaking story but hey, we take what we get). We also chat about how Minecraft owner Microsoft now owns a big physics engine (Joe is totally right, it's a much better business decision than Minecraft, objectively) and we hit the reveal of Far Cry Primal - which even though Ubi is going a little...well Ubisoft on this one, we're probably all still going to check it out. Doxy is playing some D&D and is totally hyped, so we get the full story of her rolled character, and she's just super (we would totally welcome fanart of this or a fan writeup of the story...just.saying.) and started a new stream of Don't Starve Together with Ambz (twitch.tv/canhasambz). Brian's played Mighty No. 9 right after a bit of Mega Man, and side by side it's a little weird. He also soured a little on Heroes of Might and Magic, as it seemed to just get to be a bit much, but fans will still love it. He also got a review copy of Rebel Galaxy, which he's super psyched to tell us more about in another show. Joe has had a bit of a slow week, after the logjam that was last weeks playlist, he's back to waiting on Battlefront, playing a PS4 version of Wasteland 2 for review (which he can't really talk about too much, but the it was great the first time around on PC), and another game called Grand Age: Medieval but can't really offer up a good opinion, oh and that's embargoed too - so next week there'll be more for sure. Follow, sub and love us on Youtube, Twitch and Twitter! We'll be putting out another live show in two weeks, so join up and hang out!!
in THIS, the 16th, and most memorable episode yet, because they just get better and better - we chat about the fact that Konami has "comitted to the core" and plans to continue developing games on their IP like Castelvania and Metal Gear, we doubt they'll do much of repute but really hope some up and coming writer gets a crack at some seriously cool opportunities for stories. We also chat about games cutting single player entirely - Call of Duty Black Ops III has no campaign on Xbox 360 and PS3, but you get zombies, so Activision are generous gods. Rainbow 6 Siege has no single player as well, but for different reasons it seems - Brian gets a bit upset about the COD news, while Joe still isn't sure R6 has what it needs to be worth that $60 price tag.Doxy Played some Jotun and likes it quite a bit, but chat seemed to not dig the art style for some reason, while she also got some time in with P.T. finally - it only made her more sadified that it won't come to be. She wasn't a fan of the puzzles though, and even if it were something of a teaser to be tough to figure out, some of itw as just dumb. She also explains how she had to rethink interior design following the late night play.Brian got into a lot of really cool board games including Exploding Kittens and Artemis. Exploding Kittens almost made Doxy cry at first, but the game still sounds like a blast, and Artemis looks to be a really cool starship sim game played with a projector and dictating responsibilities. Joe can finally talk about FIFA, and reveals that it's an incredible soccer game for fans, as well as those that wanted to check the game out in general - with a good learning curve that teaches as you go, and a super addictive Ultimate Team mode, it's just plain fun. If you hate soccer though, you'll hate FIFA so just move on. Also NBA Live 16 is a bit rough, with some weird physics and a system that just feels like it's cheating you more often than not, it never pays off to put more time in and never feels truly engaging. This is about the time where Doxy brings up Elements, a card game she's been playing that seems to play against you in the wrong ways - drawing the exact cards you don't need. Moving on Joe also played Skylanders Superchargers, a baby game he thought, but it took him back to golden days of sitting cross-legged on the floor...and then he actually did that. FOLLOW US EVERYWHERE! Youtube // Twitter // Twitch
CHECK OUT OUR YOUTUBE/TWITCH/TWITTER!!! WE'RE BRANDED Y'ALL! The gang is back, and talkin robot dildos. We kick off the week welcoming our very special guest Green9090 who brings to the table the wonderful world of VR Porn Peripherals which quickly devolves into how we're basically going to sex up robots sooner than later with the gem of a quote "you can put your dick on it, but you're not going to like what it does" (paraphrasing). We chat about the name change from Project Morpheus to Playstation VR or PSVR, or however the PSPR folks will spin it. There's also chattings about PS Vita, PS VitaTV, and much more, but the real star this week is the things we've played. Green enlightens us to his obsession with Dark Souls II and his recent journeys through the game in a new way, with Scholar of the First Sin - he's liking getting back into Dark Souls but some of the decisions seem downright weird.Brian has been all about that bear in Danganronpa which he finished up and found totally awesome, with a cool ending as well as some end-game content he didn't expect. Now he's looking forward to the second game, which he moved right up to the top spot in his Gamefly queue, which is telling. Oh and he watches 8-bit people sleep. Beyond that, his "poop" games, which the rest of us call pooping games; Family Guy, the Simpsons, those wonderful wait for it game types.Doxy recounts the wonderful game that is Shovel Knight, which we concurred we all want to play, but no one did. Running only $15 it might not be a bad time to pick it up and an expansion on the horizon, it's worth checking out. Doxy is also anxiously awaiting her precious Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth and next week will be playing the terrifying looking SOMA.Joe has been, well, busy with games. Mad Max did some cool things and built a neat world to look at but one that just fell flat especially in combat, and felt like it took bits from other games but never made anything all its own. Metal Gear is still his fallback, to waste time and fulton out more troops or just chill out, retaining the GOTY spot for now but still having to fight a bit against The Witcher. Joe also wanted to make sure people know about Blues and Bullets, an episodic noir with some really cool artistic flair and some very interesting investigation set pieces, only running $5 on Xbox One and Steam right now. Currently Joe is all about Destiny, The Taken King is king of taking (get it??) all his time, and it has turned him back on to Destiny, likening it more to the Reaper of Souls update for Diablo - better loot, more fun, and an actually interesting Sci Fi story. Joe has also been playing some FIFA 16 but can't really talk about it in terms of a review, so look forward to that next week.
We apologize, we lost track of the episode numbers and don't ever think we can truly get it back. The show has become a monster from which we have no control. Lay down your arms and surrender your souls, it's HomeRow! In yet another bummer of a news week, nothing really big happened - so we talk a bit about how money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure does solve a lot of problems. Notch is sad, guys, like really sad. $2.5 Bills can beat out Jay-Z and Beyonce for a mansion in the hills, but it also comes with boredom, isolation, and some just real downers. Doxy explains her emotional progression and we all take our turns sympathizing, and partiallly criticizing some things the Minecraft creator blurted out at 3 AM. Joe's been playing the big guns recently, Mad Max and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain - and MGS is wonderful in most all respects, but Mad Max is a little tougher to pin down. Brian is after some of that sweet, sweet Mega Man Legacy Collection, and finally got into PT. Unfortunately for anyone that likes games, that's about as far as that one goes. Doxy goes back to Torchlight 2, a game the entire cast gives the "oh yeah that's an amazing game" cheer to, and explains her on-stream hijinks. As well as her ignorance to what the little red thing means in Fallout Shelter.
The gang is back, and chatting Gamescom GameBombs - Joe and Brian both watched the Xbox briefing and fill Doxy in on how 2016 is looking for the MS exclusives Crackdown, Scalebound, and Quantum Break, while touching on Rise of the Tomb Raider, Star Wars Battlefront, Halo, and a few others coming this year yet. While Joe and Brian turn to little kids again talking about Star Wars Battlefront, Doxy is uberhype5000 for Dark Souls 3, which admittedly looks incredible. All that talk of being afraid of what a yearly entry might do to the series was put aside when a giant skeleton face piereced the veil of darkness. Overall it's a good show, like every other one, so listen. Joe got some time with and reviewed Submerged, a beautiful and serene indie game from some of the crew behind Bioshock, as well as some time with Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, where he fell down the stairs and shut it off. Also a bit more time in The Witcher and Battlefield Hardline, but that's just normal now. Brian played a bit more Omega Quintet, officially making it too damn much (70 hours), some F1 2015 which he reviewed over at CoinOpTV, as well as playing some Sword Art Online which seems to be scratching that JRPG itch. Doxy has been moving across the country, not in the Sims or some other game, literally moving across the country. Finding herself back in good ol Iowa (land of the best corn and tenderloins you'll ever find, eat shit Indiana) she's had a bit of fun with Rocket League.
In a yet another summer slow news week - we jump in to discuss harassment and why its just the worst, and how different gaming communities act - Xbox Live being wholly different than PC. We also weigh in on how we think people come to harass, and why they're just the worst. Brian and Doxy break into what might just have to be a new segment of the show; Board Games! And Brian comments on how totally normal the latest JRPG he's playing is.Be sure to follow all our lovely social medias, and join us for the live shows once a month!
In this wonderful and extended (and LIVE!) version of the Home Row podcast, the crew goes over the hype machine that is E3. With juggernauts like Bethesda blowing minds, and Minecraft proving it still can be cool, it was a great show for all gamers of all kinds. With almost too much info to go over we gave it a shot, and have the second live show TONIGHT! Check it out over at http://twitch.tv/zer0doxy Joe was totally smitten by the Microsoft conference and will probably shell out funds for an Elite controller, while Brian and Doxy just didn't get it. The amount of time spent talking about Fallout is pretty substantial, because let's be real; it's going to be pretty ok. We were pretty unanimously impressed with Bethesda's lineup and show in general, and while there were a few hiccups in all of the shows, it seemed like we just had a damn good few days. Oh and Brian loses internet and we stick to the code.
The HomeRow crew hasn't exactly had what we would call "regular" schedules lately, and that includes for BM's. They're back and talking a bit about how the Fallout 4 trailer underwhelmed, looks a little shotty, but how they'll still gladly throw money at it. Also on the agenda is the stagnation of titles like Tenchu, Armored Core, and the possibility that From Software is turning out another Dark Souls way too soon. Doxy has been all about Shadow of Mordor lately, finding it a little easier since diving back in, while Brian has a thing for Rebel Galaxy's puckish rogue vibe and loves the ship combat mixed with southern rock, calling it Space Truckers meets cowboys, and totally selling Doxy and Joe on having to check it out. Check Brian's commentary on Rebel Galaxy HERE. He's also into The Adventures of Pip, a roguelike where Pip can basically change from single pixel to 8-bit and 16-bit on the fly to figure out puzzles. Joe is still going through The Witcher Wild Hunt, noting the emotional and political strings the game pulls, noting particular instances that the game made him slow down and think about the consequences of the war from Witcher 2, and repercussions of the decisions made in the game. Also quickly jumping in to Dirty Bomb, Joe's digging the team based objective focus, characters, art and general gameplay. From the folks that brought us Brink, Dirty Bomb is showing some promise, where it's free to play and check out, it has some of those buy-stuff mechanics but seem (at least so far) to be done in a fair way.
The HomeRow crew discuss the wild success of Kickstarters Yooka Laylee and Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night and ponder if Kickstarter can have a renaissance of confidence in the games sector, as almost everyone we know has been burned by crowdfunding at least once. Also on the agenda is a bit more on Konami, Kojima, Silent Hills and that whole...thing. We wonder if people inside Konami are as frustrated as the rest of us, and if Konami is preparing to just slowly retreat into the bushes, away from video game sector. We also find out that Star Wars Battlefront will actually have more than 8 maps, showing signs of having 12 available at launch, a much more palatable number for shooter fans. Doxy has been playing a bit of an extended demo of Jotun, a game she mentioned previously, and is still loving the art and approach, as well as teasing us with a description of a game called Dystopia from a few years back, which is now without a community. The DoxMeister6000 also has been spinning up Killing Floor 2, and is totally in love, selling us on the survival and horror aspects while making the game sound legitimately panic-inducing and therefore, fun. Brian's been playing more Bloodborne and mining Doxy for tips, while stumbling into areas he definitely shouldn't be in. He's clearly drinking the Souls Kool Aid as the punishment serves as twisted pleasure when he finally beats some areas or bosses. Also on the list for Brian was Dungeons 2, and he loved it, which made Joe smile. Joe and Brian gush about the whimsical and just plain fun nature of the game, noting that it won't win BAFTAs, but it's just a solid, well made game that's fun to jump in. Joe has been playing, shocker, Battlefield Hardline, but more importantly spent a lot of time with The Weaponographist on Steam. He was a slave to the quick respawn and "get back out there" nature of the game, and the drive to continue to find, fight, and progress kept him going through the game. While it has a bit of a floaty hero and the art style is a bit disjointed, Joe and Doxy both enjoy the game quite a bit, and recommend it to fans of the genre.
In this episode of the HomeRow Podcast, we talk a ton of Star Wars, how Steam is living up to the name of the substance that rises from fresh feces with portions of the paid mod revelation, and Joe can't stop thinking about drowning on dry land. Doxy also got !Skyfall'd playing Don't Starve Together, and Brian is totally falling for the FromSoftware charm...if it can be called that. The team speculates that 8 maps isn't enough for a modern shooter, and that jumping all over a game 7 months before release might not be the best show of support or criticism, since no one has got hands-on. Video will be available over at Zer0Doxy's channel on YouTube Games talked about: Crypt of the Necrodancer, Star Wars Battlefront, Invisible Inc, Don't Starve Together (Twitch Plays), Skyrim, Falskarr, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, Tiny Tina's Assualt on Dragon Keep, Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, Battlefield Hardilne, Dungeons 2, Tropico 5, H1Z1, Call of Duty: Black Ops III
Starting off on what we'd call a downright weird foot, this episode is light on news, but that doesn't keep the HomeRow crew from sharing thoughts on if Destiny's House of Wolves will get any of us, or anyone at all back into the game, as well as discussing the concept of permanence in games. Joe used to get anxious when making decisions in games, but with age has decided to just go for it and not worry, while Doxy does her best to go back and play the polar opposite. We chat about Telltale games and their idea of permanence, and what a series like Call of Duty could do with the idea of permanent choices. Also every game needs the Nemesis System. Doxy also brings up a few games she has yet to try but can't wait in Killing Floor 2 and Besieged, while Brian puts in more time with Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, and Final Fantasy Record Keeper, a mobile game that has a great concept, but execution falls flat on. Games from the chattings: Destiny, Besieged, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Killing Floor 2, Robot Roller-Derby Disco Dodgeball, Shadow Warrior, Call of Duty, Battlefield: Hardline, Tropico 5, Dungeons 2, Final Fantasy Record Keeper, Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
In this, the fourth episode of the HomeRow podcast we touch on the sensitive nature of talking about DLC before your 200+ hour game comes out, Big Wigs leaving their money presses to "pursue other opportunities", and the pretty much regular Dark Souls/Bloodborne derail is of course happening. We also chat about Deus Ex getting a new entry, as well as a Doxy tells us all about her malaise for The Escapists, and her mostly-love for The Weaponographist. Joe also tells y'all what Rainbow Six: Siege is like in the alpha. Spoilers; it's early. Games that get the chatting: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Battlefield Hardline, Dead Space, The Weaponographist, The Escapists, Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, Son of Nor, Rainbow Six: Siege, Metro Redux
In this every so classy titled episode we honestly didn't think we'd be able to go on about topics in a rather slow week. Thank the dark lord for Bloodborne! Doxy expresses her feeling that she might have been a bit turned off by it, while Joe has next to nothing done, but is already stressed about going back...and wants to. Brian and Doxy go on a Pokemon tear and chat about the Metro Redux package that came out a while back. Doxy also lets usk now the importance of stuffing rocks up your b-hole in Reign of Kings. All three of the hosts go a bit nuts over great memories of Gauntlet and how the new vision does a great job of pushing forward, yet throwing back. Games chatted about - Bloodborne, Metro Redux, Pokemon, Counterspy, Son of Nor, Gauntlet
Our heroes of the HomeRow return to defend things they were never asked to defend! But seriously Metal Gear Solid V should be really good.Konami and Kojima have their differences, we talk about masturbation, like a lot, and then we chat about how Joe can't stop playing that stupid Battlefield Hardline, Brian goes full JRPG as well as sells us completely on Resident Evil Revelations 2, and Doxy shows us the fascinating world of Reign of Kings as well as delves into her catalyst for chaos; Bloodborne. Games chatted about: Bloodborne, Battlefield Hardline, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Reign of Kings, Darkest Dungeon, Chain Chronicle, Resident Evil Revelations 2, Tales from the Borderlands Episode 2, Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
In this, the pilot episode of Home Row, we explore the idea of even comprehending what Nintendo is thinking at any given moment, and what the future of the NX might be. We also freak out about the partnership with Free-to-Play game mill DeNA for the use of our beloved Mayrio and Looeejee in the mobile space. Doxy brings up Indie games, which will probably be a thing forever, and enlightens us as to what the hell Jotun and Death's Gambit are, as well as why Joe needs to play games like Dark Souls. Clearly Doxy has no regard for the mental health of Joe, or the physical health of his controlling devices. Brian does his best John Wayne, and we're not going to fault him for trying. Games we chat abouts; Jotun, Oblitus, Dark Souls, Spelunky, Death's Gambit, Battlefield Hardline, Pokemon (briefly), Homeworld Remastered, Rebel Galaxy
