After stepping inside Samus's visor for the first time in years, Ben and Polygon's Giovanni Colantonio compare notes on the much-anticipated ‘Metroid Prime 4: Beyond,' a great game grafted onto parts of other, less-good games. In their spoiler-lite chat, they puzzle over the game's discordant elements, praise its strengths, and analyze how it fits into the franchise's lineage before assessing the Switch 2's launch-window lineup now that Nintendo has released its last title of 2025. Then Jessica Clemons joins Ben to discuss their impressions of a new beat-'em-up brawler, ‘Marvel Cosmic Invasion,' and a new video game movie that's been beaten up by critics, ‘Five Nights at Freddy's 2.' Nick brings film critics Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy back for a run through several major new releases, including James L. Brooks' comedy drama “Ella McCay,” the animated sequel “Zootopia 2,” the latest “Knives Out” mystery “Wake Up Dead Man,” and the follow up to the video game horror hit “Five Nights at Freddy's 2.” Their conversation moves quickly, mixing sharp reactions with the kind of easy back and forth that comes from years of arguing about movies together. Esmeralda Leon joins Nick later for a round of holiday chatter, which turns into a story about a South Side spot that sells great Christmas trees and also lets you recycle them by feeding them to a herd of very enthusiastic goats. That leads to a tour of strange Christmas trees from around the world, including one built entirely from full bottles of Heineken. The holiday spirit takes on some unusual shapes, and Nick and Esma have plenty of fun with it. [Ep 409]
Horror films have been a consistent draw for movie theaters, even in a post-pandemic, streaming world. And one of the most well-known production studios in horror is Blumhouse. The production house came on the scene in 2009 with Paranormal Activity, a low-budget found-footage film that became a smash hit spawning a franchise. Blumhouse would repeat this formula with The Purge and Insidious franchise. Now, Blumhouse is known for its more crowd pleasing scary movies like M3GAN and Five Nights at Freddy’s (with the highly anticipated sequel releasing this week), but the studio has also taken risks on up and coming directors like Jordan Peele and Damien Chazelle. So, how does a horror production house continue to survive and turn a profit in today’s film industry? And why does horror seem to be a safe bet for box office returns. Joining us to discuss the current horror movie landscape is Abhijay Prakash, president of Blumhouse. You can read all about Blumhouse’s rise in their new book Horror’s New Wave: 15 Years of Blumhouse.
Based on the video game series Five Nights at Freddy's created by Scott Cawthon and the sequel to the 2023 film adaptation.[3] The film was directed by Emma Tammi and written by Cawthon. Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard reprise their roles from the previous film, with Skeet Ulrich, Wayne Knight, Mckenna Grace, and Teo Briones joining the cast. Set a year after the first film, it follows Abby Schmidt as she reconnects with her animatronic friends, leading to events that reveal the origins of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.Hosted on Ausha. ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2′ brings back its haunted animatronics. But this creepy pizza parlor pic is an underwritten and half-baked muddle. Read the full review. If you've enjoyed listening to Plugged In Reviews, please give us your feedback.
Hold off on the pizza party, kiddos. Freddy Fazbear might be returning to the big screen, but it's not a cause for celebration. In this Uncertified episode, Certified Forgotten co-host Matt Donato has invited back friend of the show BJ Colangelo to talk about the unfortunate state of Five Nights at Freddy's 2. The first was critically savaged, but not by Donato and Colangelo. The same cannot be said for Emma Tammi's sequel, and there's a big ol' Scott Cawthon shaped reason why (among other disappointing reasons).

Want to connect with Tj & Plaideau? Send us a text message. The best fandom moments aren't about the merch—they're about the spark between people. We sat down with actor Billy Slaughter to trade stories that bounce from a PBS deep dive as William Faulkner to the wild energy of Scary Movie 6, with a healthy dose of Cajun flavor and con-floor surprises. Billy talks preparation and play in the same breath: walking Faulkner's halls to find the cadence of a literary giant, then flying to Atlanta to help reboot a definitive horror comedy with original players returning and a stack of fresh cameos. He also teases opening weekend buzz for Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and reflects on how Twisted Metal and the Anne Rice Immortal Universe introduced him to wildly different, equally passionate fanbases.Voiced by Brian Plaideau Have you been injured? Roxy Striar and Andrew Gordon react to Five Nights at Freddy's (2023), the Blumhouse supernatural horror hit directed by Emma Tammi (The Wind, Into the Dark) & based on Scott Cawthon's massively popular video game series. The film follows troubled night guard Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson – The Hunger Games, The Beekeeper) as he takes a job at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear's Pizza to keep custody of his younger sister. What starts as a quiet graveyard shift spirals into a nightmare when Mike discovers the animatronic mascots — Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and Mr. Cupcake — are haunted by the souls of murdered children and come alive after hours. As Mike digs into the pizzeria's history, he's drawn into a dark mystery involving local officer Vanessa Shelly (Elizabeth Lail – You, Once Upon a Time), who warns him about the building's bloody past, and his fearless little sister Abby Schmidt (Piper Rubio), whose bond with the animatronics becomes both eerie and unexpectedly emotional. The film's menace centers on Mike's “career counselor” Steve Raglan / William Afton, played by Matthew Lillard (Scream, Scooby-Doo), the chilling figure tied to the murders and the franchise's deepest lore.
