Pastor David Gray discusses a place in exile where one did not want to be. First David in the Bible, and now us.
Today Perry and Shawna explore reasons to celebrate during sheltering at home. David Doerner, teaching pastor at Frontline Community Church Grand Rapids joins the team. First David shares how his anxiety about getting Covid has been transformed into a settled trust in Jesus. Perry shares about how some low grade resentment has surfaced and how God is cleaning his heart from that. Transformation during hard times is reason to celebrate. Then David, Shawna and Perry share about what God has done in their families during stay at homing. David has grown closer to his precious son Judah and he learned to treasure this unexpected season of family closeness and Perry shares about the community he, his wife Teresa, and daughter Kali have been experiencing. And finally we talk about how this season has put an exclamation point on how much we need each other! We need each other for support, we each other’s differing points of view on what it looks like to stay safe during the pandemic. And to respect our differences. And we highlight how well the Church of West Michigan is coming together as one church in this season. You have to look beneath the surface but there are reasons to celebrate.
It's a Saints Unscripted double header, First David does a fantastic job of knocking down a very seldom used, pointless argument about Book of Mormon geographic names. Then we get to the real lies and deception that we have all come to expect from Mormon Apologists from times past to present day and we get to rehash some Biblical "prophecies" about the Book of Mormon. Beware! Eisegesis ahead!
This week the boys are BACK in town to talk about Jesus and Rock & Roll. Is it really the devil’s music? Do musicians really leave satanic messages in hidden in their music? Will listening to ACDC condemn your soul to HELL? We discuss. First David asks Kevin and James about their favorite bands. Kevin gives a moderately good answer by listing Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Bill Withers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Sister Hazel, Jason Isbell, etc. But then James simply replies “Queen” and the boys are lead into a heady, heady discussion. And then Dave subjects the gang to the world’s most displeasing sound: his voice in reverse. We apologize to all listeners. OK, so what DOES the Bible say about listening to rock n’ roll? It should come as no surprise that, well, it doesn’t really say anything about it. So the best we can do is infer, which is always kind of a messy proposition. Here’s the scriptures we looked at: Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Matthew 15: 15 - 20 15 Peter said to Him, “Explain the parable to us.” 16 Jesus said, “Are you still lacking in understanding also? 17 Do you not understand that everything that goes into the mouth passes into the stomach, and is eliminated? 18 But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders. 20 These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile the man.” Phillipians 4: 8 - 9 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. We are going to have a peak at what's beyond the veil, to experience the pure abstract Light. First David gives us the broader meaning of the term projection; your whole daily life is shadowland. And what is the difference between the extension of God and the projection of the ego? The purpose of this whole stream of images that seem to arise in consciousness (shadowland) is to hide The One!Using the symbols of Star Trek's episode 'Time's End', we can have the experience of a direct encounter with The Divine Light.

In our text, it is said that David was a man after God’s own heart. Bro. Kilgore notes that the bible mentions several people about whom God felt similarly: Moses, Noah, Abraham and many others. These men enjoyed a closeness to God that comes from a familiar relationship. In order to find that closeness, we must study His word and pray. Bro. Kilgore asks: What are the prerequisites of being a man after God’s own heart. First David was a protector of the innocent. As a shepherd he protected his flock, and as King he protected God’s people. David endured hardships in his life. After he won victory against Goliath, he had to battle the jealousy of Saul. David encouraged himself in the Lord by reminding himself of past victories the Lord had delivered to him. He kept up his walk with God and kept doing His will.
Our scripture text occurs during a trying time in the life of David. Rebellion had destroyed his family and his son had led a large portion of the people away from David and sought to kill him. David could have stayed and fought and would have likely won, but instead he elected to leave and save the pain and heartache that fighting would have caused. Shimei is led by a sprit of revenge and calls David out as he leaves the city. Shimei’s sprit will always attack when we are down and weak. David’s men wanted to kill Shimei, but David stayed them because he knew that God had a hand in the situation. Every one of us will encounter a Shimei in life. Their only purpose is to stir up problems and throw stones and kick up dirt. They have no respect for leadership; they are quick to descend upon someone who is down like vultures. Bro. Hughes tells us that we have lessons to learn from David. First David was willing to leave the city rather than see it destroyed. When Shimei began to cast stones, David accepted it as the hand of God. By doing this, he took a weapon out of his enemy’s hand. If we can learn to do that, we will steal Devil’s joy away from beating us down. Rather than responding in anger, David asks what God was trying to tell him. Shimei sprits can throw dirt, but they cannot accept direction. Later in the bible, Shimea lost his life because he did not realize that God’s word was true. Every Shimei sprit will have their day of reckoning. This story teaches us that no matter what, we have to forgive the Shimeis in our life. Finally, we learn from David, that Shimeis can throw stones and kick up dirt, but they cannot stop us in our journey. David simply moved on and ignored Shimei and continued on his journey. Walk on, keep our head up and let God deal with Shimei.
