Miles Victor is an Americana/Bluegrass artist, whose every chord and lyric coalesce into a symphony of heartbreak & hope. Drawing inspiration from the soulful resonance of The Avett Brothers, the reckless abandon of Old Crow Medicine Show and the timeless allure of old-time country & bluegrass, his music blends the grit of tradition with a modern lyrical edge. Bringing the spiritual down to earth and the mundane up to the heavens. With a voice that commands attention and lyrics that cut to the bone, Miles brings a rare blend of vulnerability and energy to every stage he steps on. His songs are deeply autobiographical yet universally resonant. Joined by some of the most skilled musicians in the genre, his live shows are equal parts revival, release, and raw communion, built for festival fields, theaters, and everywhere in between. The harmonies hit deep, the playing is electric, and the shows are a celebration of sorrow of joy and everything in between.Currently recording his debut project, alongside some of the genres most respected musicians, Miles Victor is emerging as one of Americana's most compelling new voices.

Send us Fan MailAcclaimed documentary filmmaker Doug Pray joins The Fixate & Binge Podcast to discuss his powerful new film, LOUDER THAN GUNS, created on the road alongside Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show.Following the tragic 2023 Covenant School shooting in Nashville, Secor embarked on a deeply personal journey to bridge America's seemingly impossible divide over gun rights and gun violence. Traveling across the country during Old Crow Medicine Show's concert tour, the filmmakers transformed barbershops, barbecue joints, churches, and gun stores into spaces for honest, compassionate conversation.Doug shares the origins of the documentary, the challenges of navigating one of America's most emotionally charged issues, and how music became an unlikely vehicle for empathy, healing, and meaningful dialogue. We also explore the unique role Ketch Secor played in disarming participants, finding common ground, and proving that civil discourse remains possible—even in our most polarized times. This is a thoughtful, timely conversation about documentary filmmaking, storytelling, and the urgent need to rediscover how to talk to one another.Joe also shares a spoiler-free reaction to Damian McCarthy's latest folk horror film HOKUM.Thank you for listening! Some journeys don't begin with a plan. Some just begin with a song, a street corner, a moment that simply says go.In this episode of Speaking of Travel, Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show, shares a life shaped by following the music and trusting where it leads. What stays with you isn't just the story of the road. It's more the way he moves through the world. From busking days to the guidance of Doc Watson and the deep roots of MerleFest, this conversation opens into something more personal. Ketch speaks to honoring tradition while letting it breathe. Listening closely and remembering that music isn't ours to own, but ours to carry and hold with care. There's a steadiness in him. A generosity. A belief that art can hold people together in ways nothing else quite can.And when he says, “When you go into the tent, magical things happen,” you feel what he means. It's that shared space where people come as they are and leave a little more connected. Where something simple becomes meaningful because we experience it together. This one lingers. It reminds us the world feels better when we show up open and when we let the music lead.A must listen! Only on Speaking of Travel. Thanks for listening to Speaking of Travel! Visit speakingoftravel.net for travel tips, travel stories, and ways you can become a more savvy traveler.
Our guest this week on The Working Songwriter hails from The Woodlands, Texas. Hayes Carll is a singer, songwriter, and storyteller whose sharp wit and plainspoken poetry first broke through with his 2002 debut, 'Flowers & Liquor.' That was followed by 2008's 'Trouble in Mind,' which delivered the hit "She Left Me for Jesus" and cemented his place among the genre's most distinctive voices. Carll has toured with artists like Old Crow Medicine Show, Todd Snider, and Alison Krauss and his songs have been covered by Miranda Lambert, Lee Ann Womack, and Kenny Chesney. He's recorded for Lost Highway, Dualtone, and Thirty Tigers and he's performed on stages from Newport Folk Festival to Austin City Limits and the Grand Ole Opry. 'Rolling Stone' praises his work for its "razor-sharp wit and lived-in warmth," while NPR notes his "keen eye for the human condition wrapped in disarming charm." 'American Songwriter' calls him "one of Americana's most reliable truth-tellers." Our show's most frequent guest pops by to discuss his latest album "We're Only Human" and finding a creative voice that's more true to himself. Interested in sponsoring us? ‘Tis the season: This morning, I yet again set aside the customary show format to deliver the “Talking Animals Annual Holiday Animal Song Special.” I noted the title is intentionally unwieldy, which I enjoy in an odd way, mostly because it reflects the tongue-in-cheek, nutty nature of the show. On the other hand, this year, […] The post Talking Animals Annual Holiday Animal Song Special–2025 first appeared on Talking Animals.

After the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, both Republicans and Democrats called for unity and understanding — but polarizing rhetoric has continued to escalate. President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other White House officials have vowed to target the “radical left” for being politically violent. Democratic officials have warned that the White House may try to use the assassination to suppress speech. Those fears may have been realized when ABC was threatened over late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's comments about conservatives' reaction to Charlie Kirk's killing. Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, pressured the network to pull Kimmel off the air indefinitely. How do Americans feel about a government agency censoring speech that they don't agree with? Whose responsibility is it to turn down the temperature when it comes to rhetoric and polarization? David Greene worked with country singer Ketch Secor of the band Old Crow Medicine Show to produce a music documentary called Louder Than Guns. Greene spent time with Secor, touring across the country and hearing Americans' reflections on gun violence and gun rights. When FOX News host Trey Gowdy said that Americans should have a conversation about preventing more gun violence, his fellow conservatives said he should be ashamed. How do we stop talking past each other during conversations about guns and create an open dialogue? Are Americans too enraged by each other to ever experience unity? This week, a listener asked Left, Right and Center about America's history of political violence and if our panel thinks anything has changed.

You might not be picturing an acoustic steel-string or a banjo, and that's a mistake, because some of the most face-melting players to walk this earth work unplugged—like Molly Tuttle. The 31-year-old Californian has been performing live for roughly 20 years, following in a deep family tradition of roots-music players. Tuttle studied at Berklee College of Music, and has gone on to collaborate with some of the biggest names in bluegrass and folk, including Béla Fleck, Billy Strings, Buddy Miller, Sierra Hull, and Old Crow Medicine Show. Her 2023 record, City of Gold, won the Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album. The furious flatpicking solo on “San Joaquin,” off of that Grammy-winning record, is the subject of this unplugged episode of Shred With Shifty. Shiflett can shred on electric alright, but how does he hold up running leads on acoustic? It's a whole different ballgame. Thankfully, Tuttle is on hand, equipped with a Pre-War Guitars Co. 6-string, to demystify the techniques and gear that let her tear up the fretboard. Tune in to hear plenty of insider knowledge on how to amplify and EQ acoustics, what instruments can stand in for percussion in bluegrass groups, and how to improvise in bluegrass music. ReString Appalachia www.americansongcatcher.com/ReStringAppalachia ReString Appalachia is an initiative by American Songcatcher to get instruments that were lost due to Helene back in the hands of musicians throughout Appalachia. This effort is supported by over 125 roots musicians, including Bela Fleck, Rhiannon Giddens, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Infamous Stringdusters and many more, as well as several non profits, instrument makers, venues, festivals, actors, visual artists and media outlets. - It's been nearly a month since Helene brought unfathomable devastation to Appalachia. I've honestly never been so consumed with grief after a natural disaster. I have countless memories of performing, camping and hiking... so many good times throughout Appalachia over the last 15 years. I got married in Swannanoa. I almost moved to both Brevard and Asheville. I also have dozens and dozens of dear, talented friends throughout East TN, WNC, SC, North GA, and FL. It's been hard to embrace that it'll never be the same, that so many are suffering. Words fell short in a time like this. Action speaks, and I had to do something. So, through the American Songcatcher network, I've been quietly building an initiative that will put instruments back in the hands of those who lost them due to the storm. The exact, or comparable instrument. This effort is called ReString Appalachia. Whether you're a professional, or picking for the love of it, the importance of continuing the living tradition of Appalachian music culture is paramount, and American Songcatcher aims to keep it that way. Over the next month, you're going to see 100's of musicians, non profits, venues, festivals, actors, artists and media outlets post about ReString Appalachia. If you, or someone you know lost an instrument due to Helene, if you have instruments to donate, or if you are seeking a tax-exempt donation to help us cover the costs, please visit the link in the show notes. American Songcatcher will be back very soon with a very special live episode on Western North Carolina music history. Thank you for listening. Here's to the songs of old, may they live on forever. www.americansongcatcher.com/ReStringAppalachia --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/americansongcatcher/support

This podcast episode introduces us to the remarkable Danny Winston, whose journey through the realms of comedy, illusion, and music is as multifaceted as it is fascinating. Host Annette Smith engages Danny in a conversation that is both enlightening and entertaining, providing listeners with an intimate look into the life of a performer who has mastered the art of bringing joy to others. Danny's playlist is a treasure trove of memories, each song echoing a significant moment in his life. From the rebellious beats of Cypress Hill to the soulful twang of "Wagon Wheel," the music that underscores his narrative is as diverse as his talents. This rich musical tapestry not only sets the stage for his performances but also serves as a time machine, transporting him back to his formative years, filled with high school escapades and early encounters with the art of magic. We hear anecdotes of playful mischief, insights into the delicate craft of managing a live audience, and the unexpected reactions that come with revealing one's profession as a magician. These collaborative experiences enrich his artistic journey, providing unexpected opportunities for growth and reflection. Music remains a constant companion, whether pumping up the energy with "Sabotage" by Beastie Boys before a show or reminiscing about the raw authenticity of Old Crow Medicine Show. President Biden has made it official: He's running again. And there is yet to be a serious challenger to Donald Trump. Is the upcoming race full of undesirable candidates? Then, politicians seem to agree that that TikTok should be regulated or banned in the U.S. as concern increases over China using the app to spy on Americans. How serious is this threat, and how will people react if it's prohibited? And music has an ability to bring us together, and country musician Ketch Secor from Old Crow Medicine Show takes it as his duty. Secor talks about the importance of trying to unite people from both sides of the gun debate — to talk about real solutions. Plus, he shares his new song “Louder Than Guns.” This is all discussed in front of an audience in Washington D.C. for a special live Left Right and Center.
Can Country music help lead the U.S. out of the gun debate? There is a long history of famous country musicians using their platforms to comment on social and political issues. But since the lead singer of The Chicks, Natalie Maines, was ostracized after criticizing then President George W. Bush, country music stars have felt safer keeping their political views out of the public eye. Musician Ketch Secor of the band Old Crow Medicine Show is trying to change that. After the shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, Ketch wrote an Op-ed in The New York Times calling for country music stars to let go of the fear of retaliation from their fanbase, and to break their silence on the gun debate. Audie talks with Ketch about what it's like to be a musician and a parent in Nashville right now and what he thinks country musicians can do to help prevent another mass shooting.
