Today we have a deep dive into Pennsylvania's water quality. The waters of a western Pennsylvania stream are getting tainted by ‘forever chemicals' from Pittsburgh International Airport. Researchers are looking closely at how much these chemicals could be getting into the sediments and wildlife that depend on the stream.Less than three weeks remain until the state budget deadline. Pennsylvania lawmakers are looking for ways to help balance the budget by considering taxes aimed at the tech industry. The Pennsylvania SPCA removed 78 cats and kittens from a Lancaster County home on Tuesday.House lawmakers are calling on their counterparts in the state Senate to pass legislation that would allow Pennsylvania's high school athletics governing body to split up playoff competition for public and private schools. And now it's time for our weekly segment called The Bright Spot. Every Friday, I'll share a positive news story that may have gotten lost amid this week's news cycle. Today's bright spot is this:The podcast NPR Music this week came out with a playlist of songs that listeners say help them reset their mood. For example, one is “Lovely Day” from Bill Withers. One listener said, “I have a dear friend with MS and when I visited him, he played this song every morning. He used it as a daily tribute for the gift of life and it resonated with my soul. The lyrics are spot on for not just living, but living with purpose and gratitude.”If you're already a member of WITF's Sustaining Circle, you know how convenient it is to support programs like this. By increasing your monthly gift, you can help WITF close the budget gap left by the loss of federal funding.
In this special episode, I sit down with Kori and Marcia Withers — the daughter and wife of the legendary Bill Withers — for an intimate conversation about family, music, and the stories that endure. We dive into their beautiful new book, Grandma's Hands, inspired by one of Bill's most beloved songs, and explore how it carries his spirit forward for a whole new generation of readers.Along the way, Kori and Marcia share reflections on Bill's remarkable career — from his late start in music to becoming one of the most soulful and authentic voices in American songwriting — plus a behind-the-scenes look at their own writing process and what it means to steward a legacy this profound. It's a heartfelt conversation about love, memory, and the hands that shape us.Tune in for stories you won't hear anywhere else, straight from the Withers family.

Episode 106 starts off with Trivelle sharing news about some of his legal troubles (“the drama people suing me”) before the music talk kicks off with the The New York Times interview with Jay-Z, which is also tied to their list recognizing the top 30 unranked living American songwriters. The crew dissects parts of Jay's interview before getting into the subs that people feel are aimed at Drake, especially Jay's remarks about older artists coming across as inauthentic when trying too hard to relate to the youth. After that conversation runs its course, they mention artists who were included (like Young Thug, Kendrick Lamar, etc.) versus names who were not present (Drake, J. Cole, etc.), and the discussions around those omissions. Another list gets discussed this one ranked: the Top 100 Vocalists of All Time, with Kendrick Lamar being placed at number 20 over artists like Brandy, Little Richard, Chaka Khan, Diana Ross, Amy Winehouse, Elton John, Teddy Pendergrass, Bill Withers, Luther Vandross, Sade, and Kurt Cobain. After that very controversial list and segment, things move on to Drake's upcoming album Iceman, slated for the middle of this month, the ice sculpture in Toronto, and expectations creatively for the project, including features. OshauN then brings up wrestling, discussing Shawn Michaels and his recent documentary, including some of the regrets he had in the business, such as his portrayal alongside The Rock. XP then tells the crew about the Verzuz announced between French Montana and Rick Ross, which is being dubbed a “celebration.” They joke about possible stipulations, while Trivelle gives a hot take that Ross would wipe the floor with French, even playing songs from both artists to illustrate the point. OshauN suggests a Wale vs Meek Mill matchup for MMG supremacy, leading to a debate between Trivelle and OshauN about who would come out on top. As XP and OshauN get more familiar with the reality show Summer House — which Trivelle introduced in the last episode and was well received, XP reads comments from viewers (including corrections) before asking whether Amanda was right to pursue someone who was in a relationship with her friend, especially someone her friend Ciara confided in her about. As Trivelle answers, bringing in some of his own anecdotal experiences, the group concludes that Amanda and Wes showed little regard for who they hurt, as their idea of love outweighed the collateral damage. The conversation expands into whether anyone on the podcast has ever felt strongly enough about someone to risk destroying other friendships, and what that would look like. After a rollercoaster discussion, XP brings the group to talk about Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson, their public drama and breakup, the perception, and the outside commentary surrounding it. They then discuss Taylor Swift's 2018 contract that could result in many Universal Music Group artists getting paid as equity in Spotify is sold. The crew briefly touches on the upcoming Michael film, holding off on full commentary until Trivelle catches up in theatres. OshauN also reflects on his time at the theatre watching itand suggests they should let Jaafar Jackson perform as Michael Jackson on tour, similar to how other iconic artists have been honored posthumously. Here is Episode 106.

TVC 732.4: Ed welcomes Denise Nicholas, the Golden Globe-nominated actress known to television audiences for her starring roles in Room 222 and In the Heat of the Night, and the author of Freshwater Road, the critically acclaimed novel that was largely drawn from Denise's experience as a working actress with the Free Southern Theater in the Deep South in 1964, at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Denise's new memoir, Finding Home, is a moving look at her lifelong search for who and what she is—a search that that not only navigates the intersections of love and identity, but which sees Denise endure many traumatic events throughout her life, including nearly being killed several times while performing with the Free Southern Theater; overcoming her volatile marriage to singer Bill Withers; and trying to unfathom the tragic murder of her younger sister, Michele Burgen, in 1980 (a case that is still unsolved). Finding Home is available wherever books are sold through Agate Publishing and Amazon.com. Topics this segment include how Denise has always had the soul of a writer, even when she began her career as an actress; how her experience with the Free Southern Theater not only ignited Denise's lifelong commitment to social justice and activism, but served as the backdrop to the struggles and achievements that marked her path as an artist; how Denise based Liz McIntyre (the guidance counselor she played on Room 222) on her aunt Fanette, a guidance counselor in the Detroit public school system; and the emotional difficulty that Denise often faced in writing about some of the most traumatic moments in her life, including the murder of her sister.

Big Fat Five: A Podcast Financially Supported by Big Fat Snare Drum
This week's episode is a special one. In light of James Gadson's passing, I wanted to bring this conversation back to the top of the feed. James was one of the all-time greats, and getting to talk with him was a real honor. The audio is a little raw, he was on his phone, moving around, doing his thing, but the stories are gold, and honestly, that's part of what makes it feel like James. Back when Big Fat Five was still the main format of the show, I asked James to bring in five records that shaped him. Instead, he flipped it and brought in songs he played on that shaped his career. That turned out to be even better. We get into the grooves behind Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band's "Express Yourself," Dyke and the Blazers, "Dancing Machine" by the Jackson 5, Bill Withers classics like "Use Me" and "Kissing My Love," Cheryl Lynn's "Got to Be Real," and even Beck's "Paper Tiger." Along the way, James talks about jazz, Motown charts, studio instinct, restraint, feel, pocket, practicing with intention, and why the hi-hat has to talk. This one is a reminder that a simple groove is not simple. It's deep. And James Gadson was one of the deepest to ever do it. --- Get Your Copy of the Drummers on Drumming Book Today!

Last night's show was three hours for James Gadson, one of THE seminal drummers of soul, funk and disco, who left us this week. If you don't know the name, you almost certainly know the unmistakable 16 note accents, deep pocket playing that underpins some of the most beloved soul, funk and R&B records ever made. From the raw funk of Dyke & the Blazers and Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd St Band, through the sophistication of Phyllis Hyman and Patrice Rushen, to Bill Withers' timeless catalogue and D'Angelo proving Gadson's genius translated across generations - every track on last night's show had one thing in common, and that was the man wielding the sticks. Three hours is barely enough time to scratch the surface of what James Gadson contributed to recorded music. A session drummer at the heart of the Los Angeles soul scene, he played on an extraordinary breadth of records, often uncredited, always indispensable. We went deep to tip our hat to a true giant. Rest easy sir.

We all know the feeling — leaning on a friend, a family member, or a coworker when life gets hard. And just as Bill Withers sang in 1972, everybody needs somebody to lean on. But what happens when the people we depend on can't hold us up anymore? In this message, Pastor Long explores what it truly means to lean on God. A rickety chair is fine for a small task, but it fails you when you need to reach greater heights. The people and things we lean on in life have limits. Friends are a blessing, and community matters — but there will come a moment when your situation is too big for anyone around you to handle. God is different. He's the strongest foundation. He never leaves, never fails, and never walks away when things get too heavy. Whatever ladder you're climbing right now, He can hold it. Are you leaning on something that's already let you down? It's time to shift your weight — and lean completely on the Lord.

Tony Orlando centers today's program on the profound value of friendship. Through a carefully curated selection of iconic songs by artists like the Beatles, Queen, and Bill Withers, Orlando explores how music serves as a universal language of support and connection. A structural highlight of the show is an intimate interview with John Sebastian, where the two veterans discuss the craft of songwriting and the vibrant New York folk scene of the 1960s.
Before rock history hardens into legend, someone has to sit across from the people who lived it and ask the right questions. In this episode of My Rock Moment, Amanda Morck sits down with Andy Greene, senior writer at Rolling Stone. He's been with the magazine since 2004 and is one of the most trusted long-form interviewers. For two decades, Andy has documented the voices behind the music — from global superstars to the musicians who quietly shaped the sound of entire eras. Andy is the creator of Rolling Stone's acclaimed interview series Unknown Legends, spotlighting veteran artists who helped build iconic careers without becoming household names, and King for a Day, which explores the high-stakes experience of singers stepping into major bands after the departure of a legendary frontman. In this wide-ranging conversation, Andy reflects on what Rolling Stone meant to him before he ever walked through its doors, and how his perspective changed once he was inside. He shares stories from interviewing Phil Collins of Genesis (his favorite band growing up), recounts a deeply human moment connecting with Bill Withers, and explains how he builds trust with artists who've answered the same questions for decades. The discussion also turns to California rock — the mythology, the session players, the excess, and the musicians history may not have fully caught up with. Along the way, Andy opens up about interviewing Stephen King, including King's famously strong feelings about The Shining and Jack Nicholson's performance. Andy brings significant perspective to the art of music interviews and has some incredible stories to share from his journey from the Rock Hall to Rolling Stone. Escuchar audio

In 1995, I had an Acquisition Director for Storage Trust, a REIT at the time, tell me, “Basically, self-storage is a boring and slow industry. Not many changes.” That is certainly not the case in 2026. This industry is evolving, and evolving at a fast clip. Let me share with you what I see for the small self-storage investor in 2026. I'll talk about where I see the industry going this year and how it may impact us and what we put our attention on. Music in the episode is from Bill Withers' “Ain't No Sunshine,” from a golfer's POV. **Self-Storage Turnaround Playbook** https://creatingwealththroughselfstorage.lpages.co/episode-476-four-steps-i-use-to-revive-a-self-storage-facility-non-fb/ **Startup Checklist** https://creatingwealththroughselfstorage.lpages.co/episode-475-self-storage-startup-checklist-4-steps-owners-miss/ **Cap Rate, ROI & IRR Calculator** https://creatingwealththroughselfstorage.lpages.co/episode_472_cap-roi-irr-worksheet-2/ **The 4 Critical Metrics Download** https://creatingwealththroughselfstorage.lpages.co/episode-474-4-critical-metrics/ **Five Mistakes PDF* https://creatingwealththroughselfstorage.lpages.co/episode-473-5-mistakes-new-owners-make-in-self-storage/ **Cap Rate, ROI & IRR Calculator** https://creatingwealththroughselfstorage.lpages.co/episode_472_cap-roi-irr-worksheet-2/ **Online Courses at The Quickstart Academy** https://TheQuickStartAcademy.com/ **Listen on Apple Podcasts** **5 KPIs we measure** https://creatingwealththroughselfstorage.lpages.co/top-5-kpi-ebook/ **My blog** Creating Wealth Through Self Storage **Facebook** https://www.facebook.com/markhelmselfstorage/ **Twitter** Tweets by MarkHelmSelfSt **The Storage World Analyzer** http://storageworldanalyzer.com/ **The QuickStart Academy Store** https://quick-start-academy.myshopify.com

In 1972, Bill Withers wrote, produced, and performed the #1 hit “Lean on Me,” a timeless single about being there for someone you care about. Fifteen years later, Club Nouveau flawlessly brought the song into the 80s, achieving a modern sound without losing its signature heart and soul. Despite topping the charts and even winning a Grammy for their cover, the group was never able to replicate that success. This week, we dive into their career and catalog to decide whether we all need a little more Club Nouveau in our lives, or if we should just new jack swing ‘em on outta here. Cal reads a Wall Street Journal story about a graduation speech that ends with the audience asked to sing Bill Withers' Lean On Me—a soulful anthem for uncertain times. The Class of '25 faces a tough job market. Internships are disappearing to AI. Roughly 70% of Americans say they don't trust companies to use artificial intelligence responsibly. And only one in six people are using it at work. Many who don't use it are fearful of trying. Instead of commiserating, Cal makes a case for collaboration. He believes AI can help us unlock our most creative selves—and shape a future that feels more like
