The kingdom of Israel divides when Solomon's son Rehoboam refuses to reduce the burden on the northern tribes.(06:55) A brief history of the Lost Ten Tribes in the north and Judah in the south.(10:48) Jeroboam, worried that his people will turn their hearts towards the leaders in the south when they go to the temple in Jerusalem, decides to build rival sanctuaries in Dan and Bethel.(13:25) Do not take counsel from your fears or be fooled by an imitation.(19:18) A man of God warns Jeroboam against false worship, prophesying of a future day when Josiah will destroy it.(22:17) What happened to the Ark of the Covenant? Could Shishak of Egypt have taken this treasure from the Jerusalem temple?(29:13) Elijah, an embodiment of great power, is a type of many prophets. All prophets are types of Christ. (31:49) Elijah seals the heavens and is fed by a raven. He goes to Zarephath and asks a widow woman for her barrel flour and jar of oil, promising they will never become empty during the famine.(40:30) Elijah raises the widow's son from the dead. Jesus duplicates the miracles of Elijah.(43:28) Obadiah, part of Ahab's court, saves 100 prophets from Queen Jezebel and also helps Elijah.(47:29) Obadiah and Elijah's “50” can be seen as part of a bigger picture, as members of a choral arrangement that were connected to the temple and the sacred drama in many ancient cultures.(52:37) Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal to call down fire from heaven. They fail.(57:14) At times the Lord will manifest miracles to show his might and prove that he is God. The Book of Mormon is that proof for us today.(1:03:40) The famine ends and Queen Jezebel seeks the life of Elijah. In his loneliness, Elijah experiences deep sadness, believing that the prophets are dead. At times, we may feel as Elijah did. Being with the Saints and remembering the truth of the gospel message can bolster our resilience.(1:11:44) Elijah's experience with the still small voice of the Lord.(1:18:17) Ahab, king of Israel, is attacked by the Syrian army. A prophet tells Ahab that Israel will win. Ahab later desires the vineyard of Naboth, who refuses to sell his land. Jezebel, Ahab’s wife, orchestrates a conspiracy to frame Naboth for blasphemy, and Ahab acquires the land through deceit. Elijah comes to inform Ahab that Ahab’s line will cease, that Jezebel will be eaten by dogs, and that Ahab’s blood will be licked up by dogs in the very spot where Naboth was killed. Time vindicates the prophets. → For more of Bryce Dunford’s podcast classes, click here. → Enroll in Institute → YouTube → Apple Podcasts → Spotify → Amazon Music → Facebook The post Ep 378 | 1 Kings 12-22, Come Follow Me 2026 (June 29-July 5) appeared first on LDS Scripture Teachings.

In Episode 3 of this series, Patrick begins by responding to excellent audience feedback on the 3-Voice Framework from Episode 2. He then highlights a recent Mormonism Live episode that makes a compelling case for the Book of Mormon as a 19th-century text, pointing to 34 doctrines from the early 1800s. But many of those doctrines appear directly connected to debates within Campbellism in Ohio and Pennsylvania—debates Sidney Rigdon was having with Alexander Campbell and Walter Scott. Should that raise new questions about Book of Mormon authorship? A future episode will explore the Campbellism connection more deeply. The heart of this episode focuses on stylometry, also known as wordprint analysis. Patrick explains how researchers create a digital profile of an author's unique writing habits, then reviews two of the eight major wordprint studies. The second study includes intriguing findings about Joseph Smith's personal writing style compared to the broader LDS canon—and even identifies a strange anomaly in the early Doctrine and Covenants during the Book of Mormon dictation period. This episode is part 37 in a series going through the story of the Book of Mormon. This episode covers chapters 12-13 of the book of 3 Nephi. Jesus had appeared to the surviving Nephites gathered at a temple in the Land Bountiful. The Mormon Jesus gave his opening lecture the included a formula for baptism. Now, the Mormon Jesus begins to teach a version of the Sermon on the Mount that strongly parallels Matthew chapters 5-7. This episode covers the part that follows chapters 5 and 6. We look at subtle differences but also things retained from the Sermon on the Mount that don't seem to make much sense for ancient America. Some things had such a cultural context that I wonder if these Nephites would even know what the Mormon Jesus was talking about.Further research:Book of Mormon in videoJoseph Smith: The Prophet of the RestorationThe Book of Mormon online: 3 Nephi [chapter 12, 13]Have questions for Truthspresso? Here’s a throwback episode with a Counselor in First Presidency of the Remnant Church. Jim Vun Cannon was serving as a counselor in the First Presidency of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the time of this 2017 recording. https://youtu.be/PT0dH-KGfKc Don't miss our other conversations on the Remnant Church: https://gospeltangents.com/denominations/remnant-church/ Copyright © 2026 Gospel Tangents All Rights Reserved Remnant Church If you aren’t familiar with this branch of the restoration, the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was formed around the year 2000 by former members of the RLDS Church (now Community of Christ). These members were sifting through the ashes of what felt like a “civil war” following controversial doctrinal shifts, specifically the pivotal 1984 revelation that allowed women to hold the priesthood. In this comprehensive interview, we cover a lot of ground. We discuss Jim’s fascinating journey of joining the Remnant Church in 2012 and being called to the First Presidency just five years later. We also dive deep into the church’s unique theology, including their ongoing efforts to literally build the city of Zion in Jackson County, Missouri, how they interpret the Law of Consecration and the Order of Enoch today, and their strict belief that Joseph Smith was a monogamist. We also tackle tough questions surrounding DNA and the Book of Mormon and why they believe women will never hold the priesthood. Now, I want to point out an important update to our viewer. Jim Vun Cannon is no longer in the First Presidency of the Remnant Church. Since this recording, he actually broke off to form a new group called the Everlasting Church of Jesus Christ in the Latter-day & is the president of that church. Keep that fascinating update in mind as you listen to his perspectives from his time in the Remnant Church leadership. Let’s dive into the full interview! Send us Fan MailComfort isn't always a blessing. Sometimes it's the quiet condition that puts our spiritual life to sleep while we're busy feeling “fine.” We dig into a danger that rarely announces itself: spiritual apathy that grows through ease, distraction, and just enough routine to keep us going through the motions without real connection to God.We walk through the Book of Mormon pattern of the pride cycle and why prosperity can create the illusion that we no longer need the Lord. From Nephi's warning about being “pacified and lulled” into carnal security to David's choice to stay home when kings go to battle, we look at how small decisions in comfortable moments can weaken vigilance. We also sit with Christ's sharp words to the lukewarm and talk honestly about what fence-sitting looks like in real life: prayers that turn into checklists, scripture study that becomes skimming, promptings we keep delaying, and service we start treating as optional. Then we get practical. If you can feel yourself drifting, there are ways back that actually work: purposeful fasting, deep study, acting immediately on spiritual promptings, remembering covenants, serving someone else, and praying for spiritual hunger when you don't feel it. If you want stronger discipleship, clearer personal revelation, and a faith that stays awake in a comfortable world, press play and take one step forward with us. Reading this story through the lens of the honor culture in the ancient Near East.(08:13) David's fall helps us see the lines of defense we can put in place to prevent us from breaking the law of chastity.(19:10) Chaos ensues in David’s family because of his example. Nathan pitches a legal case to David where a wealthy man steals a poor man's little lamb. Nathan says, “Thou art the man!” He prophesies chaos in the House of David as a consequence of his choices.(20:05) David's son Amnon takes his sister Tamar by force. Tamar's other brother Absalom kills Amnon in revenge. Absalom rebels against his father David and declares himself the king. David's general Joab slays Absalom.(28:24) In the Book of Mormon, Jacob rebukes those who excuse themselves in committing sins like David and Solomon. Their immoral transgressions broke the hearts of their wives. Their children lost confidence because of their bad examples.(31:30) The last four chapters of 2 Samuel are an appendix containing diverse materials arranged in a chiastic order.(35:47) Solomon becomes the king. He asks the Lord for a wise and understanding heart.(38:42) Two mothers contend over a baby and Solomon determines who the true mother is. His wisdom and understanding exceed that of all men, but then Solomon begins to worships false gods. Our strengths can also be our downfall.(44:24) The First Israelite Temple is built by Solomon. Does the Book of Mormon fit better in the ancient world or in early nineteenth century America when it was created? Defenders of the book point to a handful of twisted and strained comparisons to the ancient world to make their case. Bill and RFM, on the other hand, demonstrate conclusively that the Book of Mormon is a much better fit for the early nineteenth century in which it was produced. Indeed, no book is more obviously a product of its times than the Book of Mormon. And that time was the first part of the nineteenth century in the newly established United States of America. In this episode of our continuing series on Book of Mormon authorship theories, Patrick lays the groundwork for understanding how the Book or Mormon is constructed, which is an essential part of considering the Book of Mormon authorship theories. In this episode we consider Rob Terry's work. Data Scientist Rob Terry utilized the BYU Book of Mormon text database to deconstruct the structure of the Book of Mormon. He demonstrates in this Wheat and Tares article https://wheatandtares.org/2020/04/23/book-of-mormon-wordprint-studies-in-2020/ how the Book of Mormon has 3 discrete “voices”. First, the Narrator Voice. This voice contains many attributes that are consistent across the book, regardless of whether the speaker is Mormon, Zeniff, or Helaman. Next, the Sermon Voice is interspersed in the narrative and contains unique attributes across the book, whether in the voice of Alma, Samuel the Lamanite, or Amulek. Finally, in the second half of the book, there is a Late Voice which muddies the clear switching between Narrator and Sermon Voices we see in the first half of the book and introduces a new set of attributes not seen in the other 2 Voices. Terry illustrates the Voices in many graphs to help the audience visualize how the book is constructed. The 3-Voice Framework must be accounted for by any Book of Mormon authorship theory and complicates the notion that the book could have been dictated without an underlying text. Finally, in the episode, we briefly show how the framework helps explain the Book of Mormon wordprint study results. In this episode, we examine three of the most common theories used to defend Joseph Smith's translation:-The Missing Scroll Theory-The Long Scroll Theory-The Catalyst TheoryDrawing heavily from Dan Vogel's groundbreaking book Book of Abraham Apologetics, we carefully review the historical evidence surrounding these claims, including the eyewitness accounts frequently cited by defenders of the Long Scroll Theory. Do these accounts actually support the evidence of a lengthy missing papyrus containing the Book of Abraham? Or have they been selectively interpreted to fit a predetermined conclusion? Along the way, we examine the work of prominent Egyptologists, discuss the relationship between Joseph Smith's translation claims and the surviving papyri, and explore why even faithful scholars have increasingly moved away from defending the Book of Abraham as a literal translation of the existing Egyptian texts. Join Kolby, Nemo, and Julia as they work through the evidence, compare competing apologetic arguments, and ask what explanation best fits the historical record. In our next episode, we'll examine a fourth and increasingly popular theory: that the Book of Abraham preserves authentic ancient Jewish traditions about Abraham and may contain an ancient core despite not being a direct translation of the surviving papyri. ___________________YouTubeShow NotesAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals.  Our overall mission is to: 1. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.     ACU Endorsed Charities -------------------------------------------------------- Pre-Born! Separating "the church" from the Book of Mormon: Was the church restored in 1830 p5

Send us Fan MailVIDEO PODCAST HEREThis concludes our series examining whether the Church was restored in 1830. In this final installment, we review additional revelations that did not come to pass, along with various challenges that arose under the leadership of Joseph Smith as prophet. Our hope throughout this series is that viewers will thoughtfully consider whether the church organization established by Joseph Smith and his associates was truly divine in origin or the product of human effort. We have sought to clearly distinguish between the restored church structure and the simple, foundational gospel taught in the Book of Mormon.Upon closer examination, the Book of Mormon stands apart in both spirit and substance—particularly in its emphasis on simplicity—from many of the doctrines and practices that were later introduced through Joseph Smith's revelations. We invite all who watch to prayerfully ponder these matters. We encourage you to approach the Book of Mormon with fresh eyes, asking God to help you separate longstanding church traditions from its core message: the simple call to repentance made possible by the Savior's atoning sacrifice on the cross. The Book of Mormon is unequivocal in its teaching that only those who repent are covered by the Atonement of Jesus Christ and receive everlasting life in His kingdom. Restored Gospel  - Scripture Search and Study Resources Contact us:restoredgospelpodcast@gmail.comMusic by Michael Barrett

Darrach Ó Duibh has such an interesting story, and I wanted to speak with him to discuss his incredible life journey and the profound, unexpected insights he gained while translating the Book of Mormon into the Irish language longhand. He's an ancient language researcher, polyglot, and textual critic based in Ireland. Having previously worked as a bibliographic researcher for FARMS (now the Maxwell Institute) under the legendary LDS scholar Hugh Nibley, Darrach started this translation project 20 years ago while bedridden after a honeymoon car crash. Adding another dimension to his life, Darrach is also a well-respected professional mixed martial arts (MMA) referee. We explore his unique personal interactions with Hugh Nibley, his background growing up with a father in military intelligence, and the powerful textual evidence for multiple, distinct prophetic voices that only becomes visible when translating the Book of Mormon text word by word. Some highlights from this episode include:Working with Hugh Nibley: Darrach shares first hand stories from his time sitting across the desk from Hugh Nibley at BYU, including Nibley's shocking command of ancient languages, his quiet patience with students, and a legendary family story involving a moving train in Utah.Growing Up in Military Intelligence: From learning languages at six years old to witnessing his father barter with guards in Russian at Checkpoint Charlie, Darrach explains how his childhood in Germany unlocked his lifelong love for language. The Ancient Egyptian Pattern in the Text: A fascinating deep dive into the very first verses of First Nephi, Enos, Omni, Mormon, and Moroni, revealing a complex, authentic ancient narrative pattern known as the narrative infinitive or "stacking" that Joseph Smith could not have easily fabricated.Hearing Distinct Voices: Darrach details how his translation work forced him to recognize completely different linguistic registers, vocabulary, and tones between Nephi, Jacob, and Mormon, providing stunning textual evidence for the book's authenticity.Faith, Revelation, and Suspension: A discussion on why the Lord purposely keeps archaeological and metaphysical proof in a state of suspension, allowing spiritual knowledge and true faith to flourish rather than letting it become dormant. You can find Darrach's Irish translation of the Book of Mormon at the following link:Amazon: An Leabhar Mhórmoin: Fianaise eile ar Íosa Críost (Irish Edition) https://www.amazon.com/Leabhar-Mh%C3%B3rmoin-Fianaise-Cr%C3%ADost-Irish/dp/B0H2W35RW4/Follow For All The Saints on social media for updates and inspiring content:www.instagram.com/forallthesaintspodhttps://www.facebook.com/forallthesaintspod/For All The Saints episodes are released every Monday on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVDUQg_qZIU&list=UULFFf7vzrJ2LNWmp1Kl-c6K9Qhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3j64txm9qbGVVZOM48P4HS?si=bb31d048e05141f2https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/for-all-the-saints/id1703815271If you have feedback or any suggestions for topics or guests, connect with Ben & Sean via hello@forallthesaints.org or DM on InstagramConversations to Refresh Your Faith. For All The Saints podcast was established in 2023 by Ben Hancock to express his passion and desire for more dialogue around faith, religious belief, and believers' perspectives on the topics of our day. This week, I'm digging deep into my personal study of 3rd Nephi—the Book of Mormon chapters that capture Christ's visit to the Americas after His resurrection. Have you ever wondered what it would have been like to stand in that crowd, to hear the voice from heaven, and to come one by one to the Savior? I find myself amazed by both the timing and the tenderness of these moments.Together, let's walk through these chapters and imagine what it must have felt like to not only witness miracles, but to experience them individually—one by one. From feeling the prints of the nails, to being healed, to seeing the children blessed, these verses remind me that Christ's love and ministry are always personal and tailored for each soul. If you need a reminder this week about how individual and intentional the gospel really is, this conversation is for you. As you listen, I hope you'll ask yourself: what would your testimony be, if you had been there? Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Who wrote the Book of Mormon? For nearly two centuries, believers, skeptics, historians, and scholars have wrestled with that question. Is the Book of Mormon what it claims to be—a divinely inspired ancient record translated by the gift and power of God? Was it the product of Joseph Smith alone, created through his own imagination and abilities? Or might other individuals, such as Sidney Rigdon have played a role in its creation? In this special series, we take a deep dive into the competing theories surrounding the authorship of the Book of Mormon. We'll explore the traditional faith-based narrative, examine arguments for Joseph Smith as the sole author, investigate claims of possible collaborators and influences, and review the historical evidence, documents, word print studies, and scholarship on all sides of the debate. Whether you're a believer, a skeptic, or simply curious about one of the most fascinating questions in religious history, join us as we examine the evidence and ask: Who really authored the Book of Mormon? This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacy

I have three guests joining me on the podcast this week: Hayden and Jackson Paul, the creators behind The Stick of Joseph, a popular YouTube channel dedicated to exploring the ancient roots and cultural impact of the Book of Mormon and David J. Butler (D. John Butler), an accomplished author, attorney, and entrepreneur who serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Plain & Precious Publishing.Hayden, Jackson, and Dave were in the UK to interview biblical scholar Margaret Barker, and I had the chance to catch up with them. We dive into the true purpose of scripture, the pitfalls of living in a hyper-digital world, and how to transition from a casual religious life into a deeply prayerful, authentic relationship with God.Some highlights from this episode include:The Lens of the Book of Mormon: The guys share their perspective on why the Book of Mormon shouldn't be viewed as the "Robin to the Bible's Batman," but rather as the foundational lens through which all other scripture should be read. The Digital "Portal to Hell": A candid conversation on how the hyper-fast context shifts of modern social media are actively eroding our memory, destroying sacred time, and cheapening real-world human relationships."Be Sufficiently Humble to Aim Sufficiently Low": Practical, brick-by-brick advice on how to revive a hollow or struggling religious life using incremental improvements rather than burning out on short-lived religious fervor. An Answer to Someone's Prayer: Jackson shares a powerful, raw experience from their studio parking lot about the exact moment he chose to stop trying to "wiggle out" of the Spirit's promptings and humanized his faith for a total stranger.Governed by Ten or Ruled by a Thousand: A breakdown of how society's shift toward secularism removes self-governance, inevitably leading toward a more heavily mandated and totalitarian world. You can find more of their work at the following links:The Stick of Joseph: https://thestickofjoseph.com/ and www.youtube.com/@thestickofjoseph Latter Daily Saints: www.youtube.com/@LatterDailySaints Plain & Precious Publishing: https://plainandpreciouspublishing.comFollow For All The Saints on social media for updates and inspiring content:www.instagram.com/forallthesaintspodhttps://www.facebook.com/forallthesaintspod/For All The Saints episodes are released every Monday on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVDUQg_qZIU&list=UULFFf7vzrJ2LNWmp1Kl-c6K9Qhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3j64txm9qbGVVZOM48P4HS?si=bb31d048e05141f2https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/for-all-the-saints/id1703815271If you have feedback or any suggestions for topics or guests, connect with Ben & Sean via hello@forallthesaints.org or DM on InstagramConversations to Refresh Your Faith. For All The Saints podcast was established in 2023 by Ben Hancock to express his passion and desire for more dialogue around faith, religious belief, and believers' perspectives on the topics of our day. What started as a simple food sensitivity test has turned into a full-blown cheese withdrawal situation. We're talking Gouda cravings, cheddar desperation, and behavior that would get you escorted directly out of a Target. If you've ever loved cheese enough to question your life choices, you'll feel seen.Meanwhile, Rizz discovers there's now a Lost Boys musical on Broadway. That's right. Somewhere, a vampire is singing show tunes and Gen X dads everywhere are suddenly considering season tickets. The crew debates Broadway shows, Book of Mormon, and whether Lost Boys might be the gateway drug that finally gets middle-aged rock fans into theater. Then comes one of the week's strangest news stories as the gang revisits the infamous Hooters incident involving a customer who somehow managed to turn a chicken wing restaurant into the site of a criminal investigation. It leads to a conversation that proves common sense may officially be extinct. The laughs keep coming when Riz recounts his Primus concert experience. The crew kicks things off with air show excitement taking over St. Louis. Between Blue Angels screaming across the sky, traffic nightmares in Chesterfield Valley, food truck plans, soccer matches, and Moon somehow scheduling approximately 47 events in a single Saturday, the weekend is already off to a chaotic start. The team also swaps stories about hidden local gems, parks they've somehow ignored for years, and the eternal struggle of trying to get anywhere during a major regional event.Steve Ewing, his wife Beth, and the tragic loss of their dog after an attack in Tower Grove Park. The gang shares thoughts on responsible pet ownership, leash laws, dog training, accountability, and the kind of people who make terrible situations even worse by running away from them. It's an emotional discussion that highlights how quickly an ordinary day can become unforgettable. What's worse—finding out your child is being bullied or finding out your child is the bully? That launches a flood of personal stories, old-school parenting advice, schoolyard fight memories, gym teachers who looked the other way, and lessons learned from growing up in a world where conflict usually worked itself out one way or another. They debate about things that were ruined once too many people discovered them. Food trucks. Craft beer. Airbnb. Festivals. Etsy. Secret parking spots. National parks. Podcasts. Nothing is safe. If you've ever loved something before it became wildly popular and slightly unbearable, you'll probably find yourself nodding along while simultaneously realizing you might be part of the problem. An Olive Garden server receives a massive $700 tip, management gets involved, fraud reviews begin, accusations start flying, Facebook explodes, and suddenly nobody knows who to believe. Along the way you'll hear tales of childhood heroes, local legends, travel headaches, restaurant pet peeves, and the type of random conversations that somehow only make sense when heard together. That's what happens when a group of friends sits down with microphones and starts following every ridiculous tangent to its natural conclusion.Rizz didn't know what a Long John donut was?Which led to a passionate discussion about Long Johns, eclairs, and why every city insists on calling the same food something completely different. From there, things get appropriately ridiculous. In music news, Ace Frehley's legendary 1975 Gibson Les Paul sells for over half a million dollars, proving that Kiss fans remain one of the most dedicated—and financially dangerous—fan bases on Earth. The crew dives into the legacy of the iconic guitar, the musicians inspired by it, and why certain pieces of rock history carry a price tag bigger than most houses. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, where former guitarist Josh Klinghoffer says his era with the band has basically been erased from history. The gang debates forgotten albums, band politics, and why some musicians act like entire chapters of their careers never happened.Elsewhere, Madonna surprises fans with a pop-up Pride performance in Times Square, Ted Danson opens up once again about one of the most controversial moments of his career, and Bret Michaels' daughter shares stories about growing up backstage at Poison concerts that absolutely sound like they came from another planet.Movie fans get fed as the crew breaks down reviews for the new Masters of the Universe film, debates whether nostalgia can carry a franchise forever, and discusses famous movie mistakes that accidentally became iconic scenes. Plus, Nightcrawler gets some love, The Birdcage remains a classic, and everyone learns that sometimes the best moments in cinema happen when things go completely off the rails. The crew discovers what modern audiences consider "dad rock," and let's just say nobody was emotionally prepared to hear Blink-182, Linkin Park, Korn, Creed, and Fall Out Boy thrown into the same category as classic rock legends. Time comes for us all.The gang dives headfirst into one of the most ridiculous E-Memoriums we've had in a while, featuring cheese addiction, public stupidity, psychedelic suburban dads, shattered aviation dreams, and one of the most unexpectedly wholesome surprises we've ever pulled off.Rafe kicks things off by documenting his descent into dairy madness after being forced onto a 90-day elimination diet. Abstract: Members of the 1834 Zion's Camp expedition inspected a large mound along the Illinois River where a skeleton was uncovered and Joseph Smith had a revelatory experience identifying the individual as Zelph. Recent archeological excavations place the revelation in a chronological and ancient cultural context that now allows additional verification and interpretation of this revelatory event. In addition, with this new information, it is possible to determine whether the individual and location can be interpreted as being a part of the Book of Mormon culture and geography. The post A Scientific Evaluation of the Zelph Revelation first appeared on The Interpreter Foundation.

In this episode, Patrick circles back to questions that came up after episode 305, “Was Sidney Rigdon the Real Founder of Mormonism?” From there, the conversation goes deeper into how the Book of Mormon may have been dictated, pulling together both long-standing research and newer findings to paint a fuller picture of the process. The episode also walks through the proposed plan Sidney Rigdon may have used—not just in producing the Book of Mormon, but in shaping Mormonism itself. That includes a timeline of what both Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon were doing prior to 1831, helping to show how their paths may have intersected and influenced each other. Along the way, Patrick explains how the Rigdon Theory fits together with Dr. John Lundwall's newer “Sermon Magic” theory discussed in episode 308, highlighting where the ideas overlap and reinforce one another. One of the standout moments is a deep dive into seven different wordprint studies. The episode breaks down what those studies should look like if a single author were responsible, compared to what they actually show. The results consistently point toward multiple authors, and Patrick explores just how unlikely it would be for all seven studies to independently reach the same “wrong” conclusion—essentially close to zero. Finally, the episode zooms out to look at the bigger picture: five categories of evidence and a total of 72 individual data points. All of it is weighed against the Sole Author Theory to see if it can still hold up under scrutiny. The conclusion? It doesn't.This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacy

Content Warning: Discussion of suicide and suicidal ideation. In this episode of Mormon Stories, Gustavo Hernandez from Mexico City shares his experience growing up Mormon in Mexico, discovering difficult church history as a teenager, and ultimately choosing to remain an active, believing member of the Church while navigating doubt, anxiety, and faith crises. Gustavo opens up about the shame culture surrounding worthiness, pornography confessions, and perfectionism in Mormonism –including how teachings from leaders like Spencer W. Kimball deeply affected his mental health as a young teen. He discusses experiencing panic attacks, existential dread, and suicidal thoughts while trying to reconcile faith, church history, and his desire to feel accepted by God. Along the way, Gustavo encountered the CES Letter, Mormon Stories, exMormon Reddit, temple controversies, Joseph Smith's polygamy, the priesthood ban, Freemasonry, and multiple First Vision accounts. Despite everything, he chose to stay active in the Church, serve a mission in Guatemala, and eventually became an institute teacher in Mexico. The interview includes topics like what it's like being Mormon in Mexico, growing up in a predominantly Catholic culture, p*rnography shame and bishop interviews, faith crisis as a fourteen year old boy, the CES Letter and apologetics, mission burnout, mental health and suicidal ideation, remaining active after losing certainly, as well as current beliefs about Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, polygamy, and LGBTQ issues. Whether you agree with Gustavo's conclusions or not, his story offers an honest and nuanced look at faith, doubt, mental health, and what it means to stay.___________________Show NotesYouTubeAt Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals.  Our overall mission is to: 1. "The start of a new year is the traditional time to take stock of our lives and see where we are going, measured against the backdrop of where we have been. I don't want to talk to you about New Year's resolutions, because you only made five of them and you have already broken four. (I give that remaining one just another week.) But I do want to talk to you about the past and the future, not so much in terms of New Year's commitments per se, but more with an eye toward any time of transition and change in your lives—and those moments come virtually every day of our lives. As a scriptural theme for this discussion, I have chosen the second-shortest verse in all of holy scripture. I am told that the shortest verse—a verse that every missionary memorizes and holds ready in case he is called on spontaneously in a zone conference—is John 11:35: “Jesus wept.” Elders, here is a second option, another shortie that will dazzle your mission president in case you are called on two zone conferences in a row. It is Luke 17:32, where the Savior cautions, “Remember Lot's wife.” Hmmm. What did He mean by such an enigmatic little phrase? To find out, I suppose we need to do as He suggested. Let's recall who Lot's wife was. The original story, of course, comes to us out of the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, when the Lord, having had as much as He could stand of the worst that men and women could do, told Lot and his family to flee because those cities were about to be destroyed. “Escape for thy life,” the Lord said, “look not behind thee . . . ; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed” (Genesis 19:17; emphasis added). With less than immediate obedience and more than a little negotiation, Lot and his family ultimately did leave town, but just in the nick of time. The scriptures tell us what happened at daybreak the morning following their escape: The Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities. [Genesis 19:24–25] Then our theme today comes in the next verse. Surely, surely, with the Lord's counsel “look not behind thee” ringing clearly in her ears, Lot's wife, the record says, “looked back,” and she was turned into a pillar of salt. In the time we have this morning, I am not going to talk to you about the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah, nor of the comparison the Lord Himself has made to those days and our own time. I am not even going to talk about obedience and disobedience. I just want to talk to you for a few minutes about looking back and looking ahead. One of the purposes of history is to teach us the lessons of life. George Santayana, who should be more widely read than he is on a college campus, is best known for saying, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it” (Reason in Common Sense, vol. 1 of The Life of Reason [1905–1906]). So, if history is this important—and it surely is—what did Lot's wife do that was so wrong? As something of a student of history, I have thought about that and offer this as a partial answer. Apparently what was wrong with Lot's wife was that she wasn't just looking back; in her heart she wanted to go back. It would appear that even before they were past the city limits, she was already missing what Sodom and Gomorrah had offered her. As Elder Maxwell once said, such people know they should have their primary residence in Zion, but they still hope to keep a summer cottage in Babylon (see Larry W. Gibbons, “Wherefore, Settle This in Your Hearts,” Ensign, November 2006, 102; also Neal A. Maxwell, A Wonderful Flood of Light [Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1990], 47). It is possible that Lot's wife looked back with resentment toward the Lord for what He was asking her to leave behind. We certainly know that Laman and Lemuel were resentful when Lehi and his family were commanded to leave Jerusalem. So it isn't just that she looked back; she looked back longingly. In short, her attachment to the past outweighed her confidence in the future. That, apparently, was at least part of her sin."   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    For Come Follow Me lesson manual and materials visit- Come, Follow Me For Individuals and Families: New Testament 2023 https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/manual/come-follow-me/2023?lang=eng     For a list of 100+ episodes of ACU Sunday Series visit- https://www.podbean.com/site/search/index?kdsowie31j4k1jlf913=85cb8104bdb182c048b714ad4385f9e82a3aeb49&v=ACU+Sunday+Series+ Note- Click on “100 Episodes Found” in upper right corner.   For many different Podcasts based on the ‘Come Follow Me' program visit- https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=come+follow+me+   Subscribe to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the latest videos: http://bit.ly/1M0iPwY Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/churchofjesu...
