This lecture discusses key ideas from the 20th century philosopher, novelist, and essayist Albert Camus' four Letters To A German Friend (anthologized in Resistance, Rebellion, and Death: Essays) Specifically it examines the first letter, which elaborates the theme of love for one's country. He makes a distinction between two different conceptions of love for one's country, one which subordinates all other values and realities to one's country (as the Nazis do), and one that holds one's country to higher standards (as the French do), which seems to put them at a disadvantage. In this high-energy episode, the host unpacks Donald Trump's bold, disruptive economic strategy—one reshaping global trade and pushing back against woke cultural dominance. From slapping India with 25% tariffs for siding with Russia and China, to unleashing American energy by declaring an emergency to cut red tape, Trump is rewriting the rules. The episode revisits how disastrous trade deals like the TPP were narrowly defeated, preserving U.S. sovereignty and economic leverage. But it doesn't stop there—Trump's crackdown on censorship regimes, both foreign and domestic, and the crumbling of the Human Rights Campaign's corporate chokehold mark a cultural turning point. As DEI departments are dismantled and bold, unapologetically American ads re-emerge, the host declares: the woke era is ending—and economic and cultural liberty are making a comeback.

In this episode, I delve into the life—and haunting death—of a man often overlooked in Tudor history. In Episode 109 of Breaking History, Matt Ehret and Ghost unpack the global chessboard with a focus on Russia's tightening alliances and the crumbling credibility of the G7. The hosts examine how Western powers have tried, and failed, to isolate Russia economically and diplomatically, particularly through sanctions and attempts to cap oil revenues. Instead, they reveal how these moves have backfired, accelerating cooperation among BRICS nations and expanding Eurasian integration. Matt and Ghost also break down the flawed narratives surrounding Putin, the Western media's selective memory about WWII alliances, and the deep history of U.S. collusion with Nazi-aligned forces post-1945. They argue that the rules-based order is imploding under the weight of its own hypocrisy, and that Russia's current positioning is not only strategic, but part of a broader rebellion against a unipolar global regime. Packed with historical references and geopolitical insight, this episode delivers a sharp analysis of the shifting world order.

The wine glasses, the golden hour cocktails, the illusion of ease and sophistication and how choosing to live alcohol-free is actually a quiet rebellion. Together, Sara and Heather unpack what it means to reclaim joy, beauty, and presence in your everyday life.

Doubt is often treated like a dirty word in Christian circles, but Scripture is filled with faithful expressions of it. In Psalm 73, Asaph wrestles with the tension between what he believes about God's goodness and what he sees happening in the world around him. His struggle is honest and raw—but it ultimately leads him not away from God, but toward Him. Small Group Questions1. When have you felt like your “feet had almost slipped” spiritually, as Asaph describes in verse 2? What was the time like?2. Asaph's doubt was fueled by envy of the prosperity of the wicked, what about the prosperity of the wicked tempts you to question God's justice and goodness today?3. Have you walked with anyone through an intense season of doubt? What did you learn about how to do that well and what to avoid?4. What has been a helpful cure for your doubts? Why would going to the sanctuary be a helpful cure? 5. How has God held you fast when your grip has felt weak? Sermon Outline:I. The Rebellion of the Wicked is Futile.II. The Victory of God's Anointed is Certain.III. The Record of God's Faithfulness is Perfect. Sermon Discussion Questions:1. What forms of rebellion against God's rule are most subtle in our culture—and even in our own hearts? 2. Is God's sovereignty the basis for bold, faith-filled action in your life, or a truth you affirm but rarely apply? How might your life look different if you applied this truth to your life each day? How might you feel different?3. What good things are you tempted to trust in instead of trusting in the name of the Lord? Can or should anything be done about that?4. How do Romans 1 and Hebrews 3:12-13 help us understand the progression and danger of unrepentant sin? What role does the church community play in helping one another resist the hardening of the heart?5. How are you intentionally remembering and rehearsing the faithfulness of God in your life? Or, how could you start doing so?

A carbon market is a specialized type of financial market. Carbon markets facilitate the purchase and sale of carbon credits. Carbon credits are essentially permits that allow the purchaser to emit a certain amount of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases. Some carbon markets are run and regulated by governments or international bodies, with certain industries required to participate, while others are entirely voluntary. Carbon markets are a key element of cap-and-trade programs intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In a cap-and-trade program (or an emissions trading system), governments or groups of governments cap emissions at certain levels and assign limits to participants, such as countries or companies. An entity that doesn't use all of its carbon credits can sell them to one that expects to exceed its limits. We all need a better background on finance in general, but we are excited that we are going to talk to Staci Taruscio from Rebellion Energy Solutions and get an entrepreneur's perspective on putting together a new type of company to deal with carbon emissions from plugging orphan oil wells, in a new market called a Voluntary Carbon Offset market. Some of the solutions to the energy transition must come from new business models as well as the traditional banks and government regulations. We need both public and market-based private capital solutions in the Future of Energy. Critics argue that Carbon offsets can be controversial, but advocates propose that they can be another market mechanism to address climate challenges. Keep an open mind as we talk to Staci.references:Rebellion Energy Solutions https://rebellionenergy.com/American Carbon Registry https://acrcarbon.org/news/american-carbon-registry-is-now-acr/ Voluntary Carbon Markets https://www.spglobal.com/commodity-insights/en/news-research/blog/energy-transition/061021-voluntary-carbon-markets-pricing-participants-trading-corsia-credits

In six thoroughly researched chapters, Midwest Unrest argues that urban rebellions were a working-class response to the failure of traditional civil rights activism and growing fissures between the Black working and middle classes in the 1960s. Howard focuses on three Midwestern sites–Cincinnati, Milwaukee, and Omaha–to explore the ways region, race, class, and gender all played critical and often overlapping roles in shaping Black people's resistance to racialized oppression. Using arrest records, Kerner Commission documents, and author-conducted oral history interviews, Howard registers the significant impact the rebellions had in transforming African Americans' consciousness and altering the relationship between Black urban communities and the state. Specifically, multiple parties, including municipal governments, city residents, and most importantly rebels, wielded urban revolt as a political tool to achieve their own objectives. Jen has been a quiet superfan of David Gate ever since discovering one of his poems on Instagram and instantly texting it to six friends. A British-born poet, writer, and visual artist, David explores themes of care, community, and spiritual resilience. Today, he joins Jen and Amy to talk about his latest work, A Rebellion of Care—a powerful blend of essays and poetry rooted in tenderness, authenticity, and resistance. From writing to flour milling and homesteading, David's life is a living practice of nurturing both self and community with intention. Key highlights from this conversation include:  How radical tenderness can be an act of resistance Why are many people living  radicalized lives without realizing it, and often for things they don't truly care about How homesteading is a rebellion against modern food practices Reimagining masculinity and what it could look like in a better world Building community and friendship as a vital source of joy and support in life How anger and joy are companion emotions The sacredness of everyday practices Thought-provoking Quotes: “I did not want to have an email job and I did not want to be in meetings that could have been emails. I did not want to be on Slack. I just didn't want that to be what I was spending my time doing. I loved caring for people, and I loved creating and writing, and I got to do that within the church world.” – David Gate “It's just very hard not to be cynical about everything and what I found was that I was cynical because I really, really cared. And, because I really, really cared, everything was just so overwhelming, and the easiest way to deal with that was to shut down and be cynical and be snarky. But, I realized that I had to press through and embrace what was behind that cynicism. so I had to really embrace my own earnestness and my own care in the world and concentrate on what I wanted to build rather than what I wanted to tear down.” – David Gate “It's a constant battle to speak the truth. Even things we all know It can be difficult to say, if it's not something that is normally said, and it's not something that is normally expressed, so you have to fight for that and you have to fight for your experience of the truth. You have to fight for your story. You have to fight for all of that.” – David Gate “I think it's very, very difficult for men to reach for emotional honesty because everything tells you that you're failing if you do that. But it's the most important work right now. And so much of what men are actually looking for in this world, intimacy, a sense of place, a sense of belonging, companionship, adventure, excitement, is on the other side of reaching for that emotional honesty.” – David Gate Resources Mentioned in This Episode: A Rebellion of Care: Poems and Essays by David Gate - https://amzn.to/4jjf87X Good Soil: The Education of an Accidental Farmhand by Jeff Chu - https://amzn.to/3GnS21w Cultivating Belonging and Evolving Faith with Jeff Chu - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-64/cultivating-belonging-and-evolving-faith-with-jeff-chu/ Sarah Bessey - https://www.sarahbessey.com/ Armando Veve, Illustrator - https://www.instagram.com/armandoveve/ Awake: A Memoir by Jen Hatmaker - https://amzn.to/3YHKgpw Sinners film (2025) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31193180/ Malaprop's Bookstore, Asheville - https://www.malaprops.com/ Guest's Links: Website - https://www.davidgatepoet.com/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/davidgatepoet/ Substack - https://substack.com/@davidgatepoet Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy.  To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices.
