Cornelia Choe explains why being right is no longer enough for leaders operating in environments of constant change. She calls the problem "perspective blindness": we may be correct about what we see while still seeing only part of the picture. Drawing on experiences across private equity, government, nonprofits, and leadership advisory, Cornelia argues that information has become increasingly commoditized while context and judgment have become more valuable. AI can broaden our understanding and challenge our thinking, but it can also become "a very easy substitute for judgment" when leaders accept its answers without questioning them. The discussion examines two forms of perspective blindness. Reality blindness occurs when leaders fail to get close enough to different people, ideas, and situations. Projection blindness occurs when they assume others see the world as they do. Both become increasingly consequential when different members of an organization are responding to rapidly changing realities. Cornelia encourages leaders to move "from being an expert to the chief investigator of their company": continually seeking perspectives that challenge their assumptions, listening closely to customers and stakeholders, and questioning whether the value they have historically created still meets what people need today. Her advice for customer conversations is deliberately simple: "just zip it and listen." AI can support the same discipline. Cornelia uses AI personas representing people who see an issue differently from her to expose blind spots and expand the range of possibilities, while continuing to triangulate those perspectives with human judgment. Before an important decision, she recommends asking: "Who sees this differently? Why do they see this differently? What do they see? And which of my assumptions would they change?" The goal, she argues, "is not to eliminate uncertainty," but to take a wider view before making consequential decisions. Can empathy actually become unhealthy? We often treat empathy as an unquestionable strength—but when caring turns into emotional over-responsibility, projection, rescuing, guilt, or self-abandonment, empathy can quietly begin controlling your life. In this episode of The Positivity Xperience, we explore the psychology behind over-identifying with other people's emotions, believing you know exactly how someone else feels, staying in relationships because you are terrified of hurting someone, and using the identity of being an "empath" to excuse your own behavior or tolerate unhealthy behavior from others. We'll discuss cognitive versus affective empathy, emotional contagion, projection, anthropomorphism, hypervigilance, anticipatory guilt, negative reinforcement, responsibility beliefs, and why people who grew up monitoring other people's moods may become adults who feel responsible for everyone's emotional state. We also examine why understanding someone's trauma does not require tolerating their behavior, how empathy can become rescuing, and why another person's pain does not automatically mean your boundary or decision is wrong. Black love now competes inside an economy that can turn recognition into reward and public response into psychological evidence. For Black people, that competition enters through a historical field already charged by misrecognition, exclusion, racial projection, economic restriction, contested beauty, extracted cultural production, and repeated demands for exceptional performance. Digital platforms did not create the human hunger for recognition. They gave that hunger a visible score and a business model. Under those conditions, attention may deliver more immediate emotional voltage than intimacy. Desire can feel more convincing than devotion. Status can quiet doubt for a moment. Public approval can make private love feel strangely insufficient. The governing thesis asks whether unconditional love can retain psychological authority when a person learns to experience visibility as evidence of value. Once another person must continually confirm worth, relationship can shift from encounter toward regulation. A partner no longer carries only a human presence. The partner may also carry an assignment. Keep me significant in my own eyes. Black love therefore confronts a recognition problem that reaches through history, economics, technology, culture, and personal psychology. The decisive question asks whether Black life can cultivate forms of worth powerful enough to let love matter even when nobody watches.
