In this episode, Dr. Finlayson-Fife joins the hosts of Saints Unscripted for an important discussion about modesty. They talk about the impact that cultural misunderstandings have caused and how we can rethink about what it means to be modest and teach our children how to preserve the gift of their sexuality not out of fear, but out of respect and appreciation for the miraculous gift of it.

Saints Unscripted host, Cam Condie, sits down with his mom, Ganel-Lyn Condie, to talk about being raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What were the traumas being raised in a religious household? What was it like to be a parent in the early 2000s and choosing to raise children in the Church of Jesus Christ? What was it like to be a child being raised in a household where prayer and the Holy Ghost were a part of daily conversation? Thanks you Cam and Ganel-Lyn for your vulnerability and honesty!!

On this episode of Saints Unscripted, Gustavo shared his incredible conversion story! Gustavo was born and raised in Mexico City. He was also raised in a very religious household. He had many spiritual experiences but struggled with mental health challenges and other difficult life challenges. Gustavo came across a video that attempted to disprove the Church of Jesus Christ. He then began to research the criticisms of the church (otherwise known as the Mormon Church) and saw lots of personal experiences about how the church had caused harm. He began to feel totally alone. He wasn't sure if he could ask questions on the church but also didn't want to leave the church. He felt lost and confused.
Welcome to this soon-to-be legendary episode of The Mormon History Hoedown in which I interview Kwaku El, known for his staunch defense of Mormonism on Ward Radio, Saints Unscripted, and Jubilee's Mormons vs. Exmormons! In the ring with Kwaku today, we kick it off with his conversion, liberal background, and perspectives as an apologist in the Mormon space. How did he make that shift, what's his deal and what's with all these a**holes? Moving on, we've got some drama brewing: Ad hominem attacks, DezNat showdowns, and all the tea on what Joseph Smith was really all about. Jumping ahead, let's get down to basics: What even is Mormonism, and how does Kwaku see it compared to the mainstream? Then, we're diving into the nitty-gritty: Kwaku's version of Mormonism versus the beliefs of the masses. We've got some spicy topics to stir up: Is masturbation a sin, and are Mormons getting it on before marriage? What is "true," and does it even matter? The Book of Mormon – is it historical, or just a good story? We're breaking it down. Plus, we've got some tight vs. loose translation debates and a chat about anachronisms. Stick around as I engage in a spirited debate with Kwaku, the go-to guy for defending Joseph Smith and nuancing the modern LDS church.
Jon Schmidt, famous pianist and member of The Piano Guys, joined us on Saints Unscripted today to share his experiences with music, faith, and family. Jon talks about his process in writing music, where he generates ideas for his music, what it's like to be a member of the Piano Guys, and how his family has been fundamental to his career. Jon Schmidt is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ (otherwise known as the LDS Church or Mormon Church) and shares his faith without hesitation on his platforms.
Today on Saints Unscripted we do a fun activity that is familiar to most members of the LDS Church (otherwise known as the Mormon Church). Today we try and relate as many random things to the gospel as we can! Do you know that person who stands up at every Fast and Testimony meeting to share how their weekend adventures made them think about the gospel in some abstract way? Well today we are them!!
Julie and Aaron Bujnowski joined us on Saints Unscripted to share their most recent project and one that has already impacted many people. During the pandemic of 2020, Julie and Aaron began writing down their experiences and feelings pertaining to the Latter-day Saint temple. They were eventually prompted to share their written thoughts with the world through a published book. In their book, they share their many temple insights and how each of us can gain more perspective and love as we study about the temple.

Elizabeth joins us today to share her remarkable story of faith, conversion, excommunication, and regaining her faith. If you watch any Saints Unscripted episode, this is the one to watch!! Elizabeth powerfully shares how she grew up in unfavorable circumstances but remained strong in the faith. Unfortunately, poor relationships and temptations grew and grew until she found herself about to lose her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church). Elizabeth didn't think she's be excommunicated (now called “withdrawal of membership) until she was. Her bishop said some profound words that impacted her forever. Listen as she shares her journey coming back to the faith!!

In this episode Kerry Interviews David Snell and Kaitlyn Fotheringham of Saints Unscripted. They discuss how this group uses media in a way that speaks to a younger audience to help them find answers to their questions and to come to a deeper understanding of the scriptures and the Gospel. Kaitlyn and David talk about their own journeys and why they do what they do and how that has made the scriptures real for them. We are grateful for our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and for our producer, BJ Muhlestein, and for Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.
We are elated to have our good friend Stephen Smoot back on Saints Unscripted! Stephen Smoot is one of our favorite scholars (and will soon be yours as well :)). In this episode, we ask Stephen about the authenticity of the Book of Abraham, where to start when trying to understand the facsimiles in the Book of Abraham, and what Stephen has learned from his in-depth study of the Book of Abraham. Stephen discusses the myths and misconceptions about the Book of Abraham. If you have had questions about the Book of Abraham, this video is for you!!
For many decades, there has been speculation that Joseph Smith (first prophet of the LDS Church) did not practice polygamy. The speculation has ebbed and flowed over the years, though the conspiracy has picked up steam more recently. LDS scholar and friend of Saints Unscripted, Brian Hales, agreed to address the controversy on today's episode. Brian addresses accounts of polygamy, how different types of scholars navigate history, and how to address specific claims made against Joseph Smith's polygamy. While the subject of polygamy is uncomfortable and might be happily dismissed altogether, the truth is that Joseph Smith practiced polygamy. We aren't defending the practice but rather acknowledging true historical events.
Derek and Denise Galanis join us on Saints Unscripted to talk about Derek's conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Derek grew up in a family of crime. Prison and crime were natural parts of his formative years. Derek was convicted in 2001 and then again in 2016 for fraud. Derek talks about reconnecting with Denise, someone he had known earlier in his life, while he was in prison. He and Denise stayed in contact while Derek served his time in some harsh prison conditions. Derek read the Bible and was eventually introduced to the Book of Mormon by Denise. He read the Book of Mormon 4 times while in prison and knew he had to join the church. But joining wouldn't be easy, as he is still on probation for his crime. Watch the video to get the full story!!
Ross Richey joins us today to talk about one of the most interesting topics we've heard from a guest on Saints Unscripted. He starts with a discussion about ChatGPT and AI. What does that have to do with the gospel of Jesus Christ? Well, Ross focuses on intelligence, something frequently talked about in our scriptures and in our church. David and Sabrina have a moment of expressing their fears about intelligences
Dave Dollahite, a good friend of Saints Unscripted, joins us today to talk about his most recent scholarly project, the American Families of Faith Project. David, along with his colleague Loren Marks, have conducted extensive research in the field of families of faith. Their research includes the study of many different families of different religions. Today on Saints Unscripted, Dave specifically answers questions about raising a family in faith, exposing children to different religions, and how to develop holy envy. Thanks so much for joining us, Dave!!
Charles knew he had the very best conversion story so he reached out to share with our Saints Unscripted family!! Charles didn't grow up in the church and was actually cautioned from joining the church when he announced his decision to move to Utah. He wasn't planning on joining any religion but quickly began learning more about the gospel and finding friendship in the church. He felt humbled that God would care so much about the details of his life and he found himself seeking Jesus Christ more and more. Thank you so much for joining us, Charles!!
We are so grateful to hear Jett's story on Saints Unscripted today! Jett was raised in Utah but didn't join the LDS Church (otherwise known as the Mormon Church) until 2014. He had an interesting upbringing and had many difficulties that contributed to his general disinterest in the Church. One day, he went to his friend's sealing in a LDS temple but was unable to enter the temple with his expired temple recommend. This experience prompted him to question his decisions and why he had chosen to distance himself from the Church. Jett then talks about his navigation back to the Church.
Zach Black, a new friend of Saints Unscripted, shares his story of discovering the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as the Mormon Church) and what it's like to be in the midst of learning LDS teachings. Zach had many questions about theology after going through a very dark period of his life. He was hesitant about the LDS Church but began reading the Book of Mormon and found answers to his questions. He shares much about his spiritual journey and his hope to becoming a Chaplain to help other people. While Zach isn't a member of the Church, he has a great respect for the teachings of the Church. We're so grateful for Zach for sharing his story and for his kindness and openness to new ideas!!
Sequoia knew very little about the LDS Church (otherwise known as the Mormon Church) in her growing up years. She had seen the Book of Mormon but never thought too deeply about it, though she always had a belief in God. Later on, Sequoia was browsing YouTube and learned about Saints Unscripted through a critic's channel. She found herself agreeing with the things that Saints Unscripted was sharing and decided she wanted to form her own opinion. Unfortunately, her curiosity spiked during the pandemic so there weren't many missionaries or church meetings available. But the missionaries finally stopped by her house and she was stoked!!
Marti asks Dusty Smith about how his views of the church have changed over the years. From convert to anti-mormon and coming full circle to practicing member (the story all our families are praying for). He now tells his story at firesides and has been featured on Saints Unscripted and The Come Back Podcast. The post An Ex-Exmormon Dusty Smith: Where Will You Go: 026 appeared first on Mormon Discussions Podcasts - Full Lineup.
Christopher is a long-time friend of Saints Unscripted and has been on the show many times. In this episode, Christopher talks about the intersection of repentance and therapy — how therapy can sometime negatively impact a person's need to change, if not used correctly. Christopher talks about how therapy has changed from the idea of going to the doctor to get fixed and instead, going to the gym to get stronger. This is a good change! Therapy is a good thing. But sometimes we can rely on therapy to validate some things about our character that should be changed. This discussion is fascinating and definitely worth pondering.
We have been BIG fans of Ashly's podcast and Instagram account, Come Back Podcast. We were thrilled when she agreed to come and share her story on Saints Unscripted! Ashly talks about her life being raised in the LDS Church (otherwise known as the Church of Jesus Christ) but finding excitement in other places, leading her to leave the church. She got into drugs and alcohol at an early age and was quickly addicted to heavy drugs. She knew something had to change but doubted her ability to change. She started the reptenace process and felt an overwhelming feeling of joy. Her story is one you don't want to miss! She has now dedicated her time to hearing and sharing the stories of others who have left the church and have returned.
We are so grateful to hear from Stewart today on Saints Unscripted. Stewart shares his mission experience as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When Stewart left to college, he went inactive for nearly 2 years but then decided he wanted to return to the LDS Church and serve a mission. After being in the MTC and serving for 2 transfers, he felt that he wasn't ready to fully serve. He went home for about 18 months before returning again for almost a week, after which he came home for 10 months. Stewart went back on his mission and served for the entire 24 months of his mission. His story is REMARKABLE!! And his conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ is spectacular. Don't miss this episode!!
We have NEVER had an interview like this one!! Brian Payne is a champlain and talks about his journey to chaplaincy. He didn't originally intend to be a champain but quickly realized that it was the path he was supposed to take. Upon realization, he also discovered how much time it would take to become a chaplain. He talks about the difficulties of the job and the confirmation he has felt in his job. If you know little about chaplaincy, you are not alone! Before Brian came to Saints Unscripted, we were pretty clueless on the topic of chaplains. But after hearing about the work that Brian does, we are so grateful for chaplains! The job seems to be incredibly rewarding and equally difficult.
David Snell, a host on the Saints Unscripted YouTube channel, joins Steven Pynakker to discuss his background and experiences with Evangeicals. David has developed a really cool friendship with Evangelical Pastor Jeff McCullough of @HelloSaints . He talks a bit about him and some other past interactions with members of the movement. David and Steven also talk about the rapid exit of young people from both the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Evangelicalism and how their channels are addressing this. This the beginning of a conversation that will continue when Steven heads out to Utah next month to appear on @SaintsUnscripted I want to thank David and and the rest of the Saints Unscripted team for helping facilitate this dialogue.
We know we say this often but this truly has to be one of the most fascinating stories that we've heard on Saints Unscripted. Matt Whitaker joins us to share the story of Helmuth Hübener. Helmuth was a 16-year old Latter-day Saint living in Nazi Germany. Helmuth started writing anti-Hitler, anti-Nazi pamphlets in order to spread truth about the horrors of Nazi Germany. He was putting his life at risk by listening to the radio to hear the information and would certainly be executed if he wrote and distributed any anti-Hitler pamphlet. However, as a firm believer in truth, Helmuth chose to risk his life. He was able to hide his cover for awhile but in the end, was caught. Watch the episode to learn what happened next!!
Watch this video and tell us that Tautai Fano isn't the nicest person in the universe. We loved having Tautai on Saints Unscripted to share his experience being a missionary in the social media era! He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent time sharing his testimony online. Tautai has a large TikTok presence (he's even called Elder TIkTok!) and shares incredible uplifting content. Today we talk with him about his experience on TikTok, his mission experience, and his plans moving forward. Tautai, thanks so much for joining us! Your light is contagious!
As members of the Church of Jesus Christ, we've been told the story of Joseph Smith's death for many, many years. But could there be some pieces that historians have missed? Or maybe the common story isn't as accurate as it should be told? Today on Saints Unscripted, Brian Stutzman joins us to talk about the death of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise known as Mormons). Joseph Smith was killed by an angry mob while he was still quite young. We know he died a martyr but who killed Joseph Smith?
Today on Saints Unscripted, we talk to the fabulous Emily Baker about motherhood, divine motherhood, and femininity. Emily is a mother of 3 and an advocate for mothers. She talks about how motherhood is an integral part of us as women, regardless of whether or not we have children. Emily talks about how Jesus Christ knows who we are and who we are destined to become. She talks about how Heavenly Mother can be learned through Jesus Christ and his example in the Garden of Gethsemane, in his trials, in his love, and so much more.
David Snell is a host on the Latter-day Saint YouTube channel, "Saints Unscripted." He served a mission in Chihuahua, Mexico, and then studied journalism at Brigham Young University. He married his incredible wife in 2017, and they now spend most of their time having a blast raising their baby boy. David loves diving into Church history, but also enjoys gardening, power tools, and onion rings. Highlights 2:00 Introduction to David Snell. He explains what Saints Unscripted is. 5:30 Saints Unscripted is a YouTube channel aimed towards helping people with tough questions. It's a place that shares the gospel to people in our faith and outside of our faith. They make it possible to understand difficult concepts without having to read an academic article. 10:50 David gives suggestions on teaching and guiding the youth and young adults. Be prepared for the youth to find antagonistic material and be prepared to talk about it with them. 13:50 The days have passed when you were able to respond to questions by telling people that they need to have faith or by bearing your testimony to them. Youth today want more facts. 14:20 We trust social media influencers way more than we should. Influencers give us quick answers instead of us going and doing our ‘homework' and studying things out to come to our own conclusions. 18:20 Leaders should remember that youth are growing up in a much different world than we did. We need to take them seriously and understand what they are going through. They are our future leaders. 22:10 The faith and beliefs videos on Saints Unscripted are valuable for new converts or for members that are learning about new controversies, for missionaries to help answer controversial questions that instigators might have. These videos are even valuable for those just wanting to know more about the church but not necessarily wanting to meet with the missionaries. 25:00 Leaders aren't trained on how to answer controversial questions and Saints Unscripted helps leaders have resources and videos to help them. 27:20 David talks about how he comes up with content for his videos. 30:00 While conference talks and the standard stuff on the Church's website is great, it doesn't always address the things that people are really struggling with today. David encourages leaders to check out Saints Unscripted because it could be a way to connect with someone that is struggling and provide them with more resources. 36:15 David's journey with Saints Unscripted and how it has made him a better follower of Jesus Christ Links Saints Unscripted Facebook: Faith and Beliefs Facebook: Saints Unscripted Faith is Not Blind, by Bruce & Marie Hafen Read the TRANSCRIPT of this podcast Listen on YouTube Get 14-day access to the Core Leader Library The Leading Saints Podcast gets over 300,000 listens each month and has nearly 10 million total downloads as part of nonprofit Leading Saints' mission to help latter-day saints be better prepared to lead. 36:15 David's journey with Saints Unscripted and how it has made him a better follower of Jesus Christ Links Saints Unscripted Facebook: Faith and Beliefs Facebook: Saints Unscripted Faith is Not Blind, by Bruce & Marie Hafen
