Sound the Penultimate Week alarm! Judy and Teresa are absolutely exhausted by episodes 17-18 of “Go Go Waikiki” (으라차차 와이키키), a JTBC drama starring Kim JungHyun, Lee YiKyung, Song SeungWon, Jung InSun, Go WonHee and Lee JooWoo. Judy defies anyone to tell her that they feel love when they're watching Yoonah (Jung InSun) and Donggoo (Kim JungHyun) on the screen together. Teresa is extremely tired during recording, probably from rolling her eyes so hard. For Judy, the one bright point in these two episodes was being reminded of '90s NBC sitcom, "Frasier" and wishing she could be watching that instead. Who could have foreseen that Sooah (Lee JooWoo) and Doosik (Song SeungWon) would end up being our favourite couple? When we're done talking about "Go Go Waikiki", we will be doing a special episode about "Mother" starring Lee BoYoung and Heo Yool. Then we have a "First Impressions" episode featuring "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?", "The Undateables", "About Time" and "Lawless Lawyer". Contact us if you have any preferences! Author and writing teacher Kate Hopper invited a select group of women writers to read from their work at her 11th Annual Motherhood & Words Reading at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis. Kate’s mission is, in her own words, “to highlight the amazing writing out there by women about motherhood.”   As in years past, Mom Enough is proud to bring you this recording of this year’s event, featuring: Shannon Gibney, educator, activist and author of See No Color, winner of the 2016 Minnesota Book Award in Young People’s Literature; Judy Batalion, New York-based comedian and author of White Walls: A Memoir about Motherhood, Daughterhood and the Mess in Between; and Susan Ito, Bay Area performer, author of The Mouse Room and co-editor of A Ghost at Heart’s Edge: Stories & Poems of Adoption. Make yourself a cup of tea and sit back and enjoy the work of these outstanding writers!   What stood out for you in the readings in the 11th Annual Motherhood & Words Reading? Were there issues or experiences in these authors’ work that resonated with your own experience as a mother? What made you think in new ways about the lives of mothers of different backgrounds and life circumstances than yours?   For Kate’s website, click here. For Shannon’s website, click here. In this episode, we hear from Judy O'Reilly. Judy was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011.  Following surgery, Judy speaks about the frequent challenges, including adjusting medication dosages, hypothyroidism, and her energy levels hitting the wall during daily activities. For Judy, the cancer diagnosis forced the conversation of talking about death with her children and husband.  A singer and musician, the thyroid cancer and resulting surgery has caused vocal challenges. She is the founder and former facilitator of THYCA Atlanta. Prior to starting the once/month support group held at Emory University’s Winship Cancer Institute, Judy O'Reilly offered email and phone support. Judy began her involvement/volunteering with THYCA one year after diagnosis/surgery/RAI. Prior to thyroid cancer, Judy O’Reilly had been a music educator and an entertainer. She was the female vocalist for the Atlanta Blue Notes Big Band, as well as their Combo. As a solo performer (piano/vocals), Judy specialized in senior care facilities offering up an extensive selection of the great American songbook. Ms. O’Reilly resigned/retired from performing soon after a second surgery - a completion of a previous partial thyroidectomy - due to complications. In 2015 Judy began a return to entertaining as a volunteer in the grand piano lobby of the Winship Cancer Institute, Atlanta.

It’s all Taylor Mac this week! At any given Mac show there's singing, customs changes on stage (bare ass included), audience participation, as well as a high possibility of a make-out session. All of this is intentional-- it's smart, political, and funny. Tyler and Don talk with Mac about failure, theater in America, Drag queens in rural Tennessee, and what life's like offstage. Taylor who prefers the pronoun Judy is traveling the county work-shopping segments of A 24-hour Decade of Popular Music. The full 24-hour performance takes place this fall in New York. Mac is clear that the performance is not about pleasing the audience, but rather making them think, feel discomfort and be entertained. For Judy, it’s a good night if you’re bored one minute and moved to tears the next.

This episode of podmissum features Judy Glantzman ’74 who lives and works in New York City. She has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad. A 1978 graduate of Rhode Island School of Design, Judy was active in the East Village art scene in the 1980s. After receiving a number of grant and awards, including the Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation Grant in 1997 and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship in 2001, Judy held a thirty-year retrospective of her work in 2009 with Dactyl Foundation. For Judy the artistic process reveals as well as obfuscates—she has defined art as a dialogue that goes back and forth, a “paradoxical dynamic” like ying and yang—a spiritual principle that she enjoys lending to her work.   The podcast took place at Judy's most recent show in October 2015, at Betty Cuningham Gallery on Manhattan's Lower East Side. In the course of the conversation three of the works in her show are discussed. The first is rather large with sixteen separate framed and mounted works of acrylic and paper hung next to each other to create a group of separated panels. Each panel is approximately one foot square and may have a representational image, such as a depiction of the earth, or may be nearly abstract with few recognizable images. The other works that are discussed are groups of small portraits. Some of the portraits are Judy’s interpretations of works by other artists, such as Winslow Homer, while other portraits depict the actor Peter Falk, perhaps best known for his role as television’s Columbo.
