Today, I'm thrilled to reconnect with my friend and colleague, Dr. Carrie Jones. She is a naturopathic physician and hormone expert with over 20 years of clinical experience in women's health and endocrinology. In our discussion, we unpack the limitations of traditional hormone testing and explore the benefits of saliva, urine, and blood testing for gaining a more accurate picture of hormone activity. We explore the critical importance of lab timing and how the DUTCH test evaluates estrogen, metabolism, and cortisol rhythms. We also examine how liver detoxification affects the active form of thyroid hormone, T3, across phases one through three, highlight signs and symptoms that indicate an imbalanced gut microbiome, and wrap things up with some rapid-fire questions about the things you've probably wanted to ask. Stay tuned for another invaluable, humorous, and fun conversation with Dr. Carrie Jones. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: How blood tests give only a snapshot in time without clarifying hormone pulses or tissue utilization How testing hormones at the wrong time can temporarily skew test results The optimal timing for testing in women with regular cycles and those in perimenopause What the DUTCH test measures How regular vs. irregular cycles affect which hormones should be tested Why the way that estrogen is metabolized matters more than the estrogen itself How phases one, two, and three of liver detoxification influence estrogen, cortisol, and thyroid hormone activity Why free T3 is critical for eliminating cortisol What gut symptoms reveal about hormone elimination Connect with Cynthia Thurlow Follow on X, Instagram & LinkedIn Check out Cynthia's website Submit your questions to support@cynthiathurlow.com Join other like-minded women in a supportive, nurturing community: The Midlife Pause/Cynthia Thurlow Cynthia's Menopause Gut Book is on presale now! If you're over 40 and doing "everything right" — eating clean, lifting weights, prioritizing sleep — but your metabolism feels slower, hunger feels stronger, and fat loss feels harder… This episode explains why. In this deep-dive rabbit hole, Coach Debbie Potts uncovers the powerful (and often overlooked) connection between bile flow, mitochondrial efficiency, GLP-1 signaling, hormones, and midlife metabolism. Bile acids are not just digestive fluids. They are metabolic signaling molecules that regulate: • GLP-1 and PYY (satiety hormones) • Insulin sensitivity • Fat oxidation • Thyroid receptor expression • Estrogen clearance (the estrobolome) • Microbiome balance • Inflammatory tone • Toxin elimination You'll learn how midlife hormonal shifts — including declining estrogen and testosterone — affect mitochondrial ATP production, bile synthesis, and receptor signaling. When bile signaling weakens, GLP-1 drops, hunger rises, insulin resistance increases, fat oxidation declines, inflammation builds, and metabolism adapts downward. This isn't a willpower problem. It's a signaling problem. High performers often feel this shift first because chronic stress suppresses digestion, weakens vagal tone, reduces stomach acid, impairs gallbladder contraction, and disrupts bile release. In this episode, Debbie connects the dots and explains the midlife cascade: Hormone shift → Mitochondrial decline → Bile signaling weakens → GLP-1 drops → Insulin resistance rises → Fat oxidation slows → Inflammation increases → Thyroid sensitivity declines → Metabolic rate adapts downward. You'll also learn why GLP-1 medications are exploding in popularity — and why restoring upstream physiology may be the more sustainable path. Instead of pushing harder, we sequence smarter. When flow restores, metabolism follows.
High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and workouts promise fast results — weight loss, better endurance, and a stronger body. But if you have hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's, pushing harder may actually backfire. In this episode, we unpack the surprising connection between intense exercise, cortisol spikes, and thyroid hormone balance, and why more sweat doesn't always mean better health. Research shows excessive training stress can disrupt thyroid hormone conversion and increase inflammation, leaving you more fatigued instead of energized. You'll learn how to recognize the warning signs that your workout routine is stressing your thyroid — from post-exercise crashes and stubborn weight gain to poor recovery and sleep disruption. We also explore why high-intensity training can elevate cortisol and strain the adrenal-thyroid connection, potentially worsening symptoms for some people. Most importantly, this episode offers a smarter path forward. Discover thyroid-friendly fitness strategies that support metabolism, reduce inflammation, and build strength without burnout — including how to balance intensity, prioritize recovery, and choose workouts that energize rather than exhaust you.

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Sheena: Hi Dr C! Hope you and your team are well. I'm 45 yo and currently on low dose birth control pill to help control the severe perimenopause symptoms I was experiencing. It has REALLY helped which I am thankful for. Obviously I know I cant be on it forever, but the thought of going off and going through all the symptoms is so scary to me. I also know being on the BCP will mask when I'm actually in menopause. Do you have a suggestion as to how I can find out? Is it possible to figure out while on the pill? As instructed by my endocrinologist, I take the pill for 42 day straight, stop for 4 and start again. Could I test my fsh during that 4 Anonymous: Hi Dr. Cabral - I'm hoping you can help me. I keep hearing people say organic doesn't really matter because they're still able to spray the produce with some level of herbicides. Can you help me understand what they could be talking about and confirm that organic is definitely better/ worth the cost? Thanks for all you do! Sierra: Hello Dr. Cabral. My father and four of his kids have chronically low Alk Phos. We have tried supplementing (Zinc, mag, Vit C, DNS, Omegas, etc) for years without any improvement. We are leaning into thinking its a genetic issue (hypophosphotasia). My father has had significant blood calcification, bow legged, bad teeth. Do you have any knowledge on genetically low alk phos, and how to increase our levels or adjust nutrients to help offset issues from low levels of alkphos? We do live fairly healthy, active lives. We do qtrly detoxes, we work to empty our "rain barrel", but is there any other advice you can give us? We would love to figure out how to navigate this. Thank you! day break and be able to tell? Hope this makes sense. Looking forward to your suggestion. Thanks! Adam: Hello, I've noticed during the winter months, I get more symptoms, especially thyroid related issues (dry skin, cold extremities). During the summer, these are substantially less pronounced. I've ran the Stress Mood and Metabolism test (during FEBruary), TSH 2.5, Free T3-3.8, Free T4-1.5, normal cortisol all day, low DHEAS, but are there any specific interventions I can do during the winter months to support my body? Warmer denser foods, different types of exercises, certain supplements etc? Thank you. Desiree: Hi Dr. Cabral, My husband and I are planning to start trying for a baby this June. We are prepping starting now with 3 week detox, followed by heavy metal and parasite detoxes. I will follow that with 3 months of prenatal vitamins. Are there any male specific supplements that improve sperm health and male fertility? Like prenatal supplements but for men. Thanks! In this episode, I am joined by Dr. Shivani Gupta to talk about Ayurveda, inflammation, and what this 5,000 year old system of medicine reveals about Hashimoto's and thyroid health. There are moments in clinical practice where you realize the conversation around inflammation has been too narrow. We measure antibodies. We look at gut markers. We talk about nutrients. But there is another layer that often gets overlooked, the way daily rhythm and nervous system patterns shape immune behavior.Ayurveda does not separate digestion from stress or stress from immune signaling. It looks at the entire terrain. It asks how your constitution influences the way you burn through energy, hold onto it, or stagnate it. It challenges the idea that everyone should follow the same rules for healing. What I appreciate about this discussion is that it does not add complexity. It adds perspective. It reframes inflammation as something influenced by pace, timing, and consistency, not just inputs. If you have ever felt like you were doing everything on paper and still missing something deeper, this episode will help you see your thyroid in a more integrated way.For full show notes, please see:https://innatopiler.com/podcasts/ayurveda-inflammation-hashimotos-thyroid-dr-shivani-gupta/Get ThyroLove - the first all in one bottle multi-nutrient comprehensive formula designed specifically for those with Thyroid Autoimmunity at ThyroLove.com - use code “Podcast” to get 10% off and free shipping If you are struggling to lose weight with Hashimoto's, Inna has a 10 day plan just for you at InnaTopiler.com/jumpstartIf you need help with fatigue or brain fog with Hashimoto's, please check out Inna's 9 Day Exhaustion Solution at innatopiler.com/energyIf you don't yet know your thyroid type, please be sure you sign up for Inna's next free training at InnaTopiler.com/zoomcallFor more information about everything Hashimoto's please visit InnaTopiler.com

In this Q&A episode, Dr. Eric answers listener-submitted questions all about thyroid antibodies—what they are, why they matter, and how they impact both Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. He begins by clarifying the three main thyroid antibodies—TPO, TSI/TRAB, and thyroglobulin antibodies—and explains why understanding these markers is critical when assessing true remission.Throughout the episode, Dr. Eric addresses common concerns such as: Can you be in remission if antibodies are still positive? How often should antibodies be tested? Can diet alone normalize them? He also explores the role of environmental triggers, gut health, gluten, iodine, and even supplements like selenium, black seed oil, and low-dose naltrexone (LDN). You'll hear practical guidance on why antibodies fluctuate, what “optimal” really means (not just “within range”), and why many conventional endocrinologists don't routinely monitor these markers. If you're confused about your antibody results—or wondering why you relapsed after being told you were “in remission”—this episode will help you connect the dots. If you want a clearer, more balanced understanding of thyroid antibodies and what they really mean for your recovery, you'll get a lot out of this episode. If you want to subscribe to my free Healing Graves' Naturally newsletter visithttps://savemythyroid.com/GravesNewsletter Free resources for your thyroid healthGet your FREE Thyroid and Immune Health Restoration Action Points Checklist at SaveMyThyroidChecklist.comHigh-Quality Nutritional Supplements For Hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto' s Have you checked out my new ThyroSave supplement line? In this episode of What Are You Made Of?, Mike “C-Roc” sits down with Lauren Papanos to explore the intersection of high performance, entrepreneurship, and root-cause healing. A functional medicine registered dietitian, board certified in sports dietetics and functional endocrinology, Lauren shares her journey from competitive collegiate cheerleader to working with elite athletic programs at Texas A&M University, University of California, Los Angeles, and Texas Tech University. Through her work with high-level athletes and driven professionals, she began noticing a common pattern: people who looked strong and healthy on the outside were often struggling internally with fatigue, hormone imbalances, and chronic stress.Lauren dives into her specialty—Low T3 Syndrome—describing it as a metabolic bottleneck rooted in chronic inflammation, immune activation, nutrient depletion, and mitochondrial dysfunction. She explains how these hidden drivers suppress thyroid activity, slow metabolism, disrupt cycles and fertility, and create unrelenting fatigue, particularly in high-achieving women who constantly push their limits. Rather than relying solely on hormone replacement, Lauren focuses on restoring T3 function by rebuilding the body's terrain—strengthening cellular energy, supporting immune balance, and addressing the root causes that keep the body stuck in survival mode. The conversation also touches on modern health trends like peptides, GLP-1 medications, red light therapy, and mitochondrial optimization, with Lauren offering a balanced perspective on when these tools can be helpful—and when foundational work is still missing. Her core message is clear: health drives performance. For entrepreneurs, athletes, and ambitious professionals who feel exhausted despite doing “everything right,” this episode delivers both science-backed insight and hope, reminding listeners that the body isn't broken—it's protecting you, and with the right strategy, sustainable energy and performance are absolutely possible.Website- https://functionalfueling.com/Social Media Links/Handles: https://www.instagram.com/functional.fueling/?hl=enhttps://www.youtube.com/@functional.fueling
Could an enzyme deficiency explain why you have food intolerances causing bloating, loose bowels, reflux, brain fog, joint pain, skin issues, and more? Namely, sucrase isomaltase. This enzyme, known as the sucrase-isomaltase enzyme, may be deficient in many people dealing with chronic GI issues. One study found that 8% of people were at an increased genetic risk for this deficiency (https://jpedres.org/articles/frequency-of-congenital-sucrase-isomaltase-deficiency-by-whole-exome-sequencing-is-it-really-rare/doi/jpr.galenos.2024.65625?utm_). Another study found that 25% with chronic GI symptoms had issues breaking down sucrose (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36304608/). Thankfully, a diet exists for this which has been studied and shown to be very effective. In fact, it's been shown to be as or even more effective than some of the best diets we currently have for improving gut health – therefore maybe the best diet for gut health? Let's break down what this enzyme deficiency is, what the diet is, SSRD, and how this diet applies and can be helpful even for those with underlying fungal or bacterial overgrowth and leaky gut.
Hair loss can feel like a private crisis. It is often minimised, mislabelled, or treated as something you should simply accept as your fate. In this episode, Sasha, a naturopath who entered the field through her own long and confronting hair loss journey, shares why hair loss is far more common than we realise, and why hope is not naive here.In this conversation, we explore:Why hair loss is still a taboo topic, and how deeply it can affect mental healthWhat happens when you do the internal health work, but your hair still does not properly recoverWhy some medication pathways can become lifelong choices, and why many people look for other optionsThe difference between male and female hair loss and what impacts both during various life stages and health events. The often overlooked piece: the scalp environment, and why “just adding nutrients” is not always enoughEarly signs people dismiss, and why acting sooner can change the pathWhy perimenopause can shift hormones in ways that surprise people, and what a supportive, preventative approach can look likeThe missing layer in many plans: nervous system load, chronic stress, gut health and bringing safety and joy back into the bodySasha also shares what she has seen in practice when her clients commit to a structured approach with consistency: 100% of people experience some degree of improvement within months. Results can look different for different people, especially depending on history, stress load, and timing but results are still results, right? If you have tried everything, this episode offers a possible new set of tools and ideas. Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Sheena: Hi Dr. C! Hope you and your team are well. I was wondering what it means to rarely get sick. I'm 45 years old and can count on one hand how many times I've been sick the last 25+ years. Do I just have a really strong immune system or is something wrong? Is this normal? Isn't it good to get sick once or twice a year to build immunity? I keep thinking that when I DO get sick in the future as a senior, it'll be really bad from all the years of 'build up' lol looking forward to hearing your response! Thx! Sarah: Hello, I have been struggling for several years with significant gastrointestinal symptoms, including alternating constipation and diarrhea, as well as painful bloating. I usually wake up with a flat stomach but by the end of the day I look 9 months pregnant. I was recently tested and found to be positive for both H. pylori and candida overgrowth. In your experience, which condition should be addressed first, and are there specific supplements or treatment protocols you typically recommend to begin care? Thank you so much! Angela: Good evening, I have just stopped taking Ozempic because I have been having nausea and upper stomach pain for 5 months now. Went to doctor and found out I'm plugged up so the gave me some stuff to clear me out. It has helped my sugar a lot back to normal range and also my liver count is back to normal. I have lost 30 lbs which was to much but don't want all of it to come back. Just reaching out to see if there is something else I can do. Thanks Angela Dave: Dr. Cabral, can you please explain the use of sunfiber or PHGG and if it is suitable for sensitive/irritable colon? Does it really help with butyrate producing bacteria? I would also like to ask about red and infrared devices targeting thyroid gland when there is autoimmunity, normal function, high antibodies and slight structural gland damage. Would you recommend red/infrared light device directly applied on the thyroid as a part of the destress thyroid specific protocol? If so, how long, how often, intermitently? Thank you for your advice. Jenny: Hi Dr. Cabral - I have completed several lab tests and appreciate the coaching call that comes with them to review. When I've talked about this process with friends, some are skeptic regarding the blood spot card. How can I explain to them how the dried blood spots can be used to test some of the things traditional blood draws test with the same accuracy? Thank you! In this episode of the Gladden Longevity Podcast, Dr. Jeffrey Gladden sits down in person with fitness and nutrition expert Autumn Calabrese to unpack the full truth about GLP-1 agonists. With millions of people jumping on semaglutide, tirzepatide, and soon retatrutide, the conversation most doctors aren't having is about what's actually happening inside the body while the scale goes down. Dr. Gladden breaks down how GLP-1s suppress hunger, slow metabolism, and trigger muscle wasting when used without proper diagnostics or a supporting protocol. He explains the critical differences between GLP-1s, GLP-2s, and GLP-3s, reveals why the ghrelin rebound causes most people to regain everything they lost, and shares the strategies he uses in his practice to help patients lose fat while protecting lean tissue. From the 5-day fasting mimicking diet to natural GLP-1 boosters like metabolic probiotics and calocurb, this episode lays out a smarter, more sustainable path to optimizing body composition. Whether you're considering a GLP-1, already on one, or looking for alternatives, this is the conversation that could change your entire approach. Thyroid dysfunction, declining sex hormones, and missing micronutrients can all be the real driver. • Sex hormone optimization during perimenopause and andropause is critical for maintaining body composition. • Willpower never wins long term. Systems and environment design are what create durable results. #200 - Miracle Cure or Internet Hype? The Truth About Castor Oil Castor oil is having a moment. Scroll social media for five minutes and you'll see it: “Cured my endometriosis.” “Detoxed my liver.” “Regrew my hairline.” “Healed… well, everything.” And when something is suddenly the solution to literally every problem… it's time to pause. Because while castor oil is absolutely powerful, not every claim floating around the internet deserves your blind trust (or all of your body parts). In this episode, I break down what castor oil actually is, what it's scientifically supported for, what I personally use it for, and what I absolutely would not recommend—especially if you're pregnant or thinking about putting it near your eyeballs. If you've been curious about castor oil packs, anti-aging benefits, hair growth hacks, stretch mark reduction, or lymphatic detox claims… this episode is your grounded, evidence-based (with a dash of anecdotal honesty) guide. What You'll Learn in This Episode What castor oil is made of (and why omega-9 fatty acids matter) FDA-approved uses vs. influencer folklore Whether castor oil actually helps with constipation Skin barrier repair, anti-aging, and collagen support Hair growth, scalp health, and rosemary oil synergy Castor oil for scars, stretch marks, arthritis, and cracked heels The truth about castor oil packs for liver detox Regular vs. Jamaican black castor oil—is there a difference? Side effects, safety, and when to absolutely avoid it Timestamps 00:00 – Castor oil: miracle cure or marketing frenzy? 01:00 – Why the FDA cracked down on exaggerated claims 02:00 – What castor oil actually is (hello, omega-9 fatty acids) 04:30 – What it's officially approved for 05:00 – Would I drink it for constipation? 06:30 – Traditional uses: skin conditions, infections, inflammation, lymphatic support 07:30 – Skin benefits that actually make sense 08:00 – Fine lines, wrinkles, and collagen support (why it may help) 09:00 – How to use it for hair growth 10:30 – Acne: helpful or hormonal disaster? (Bio-individuality matters) 12:00 – Castor oil packs for liver detox—worth it? 13:00 – Thyroid application (yes, I use it for Hashimoto's support) 14:00 – Stretch marks & scars: how to use heat to enhance absorption 16:00 – Anti-aging layering method (this is worth the price of admission) 17:00 – Lips: hyaluronic acid + castor oil combo 18:00 – Cracked heels, cuticles, and nail growth 20:00 – The fern experiment (because why not?) 21:00 – Jamaican black castor oil vs. regular: which is better? 22:00 – Side effects and when not to use it 23:00 – Pregnancy warning (seriously, a hard no) 24:00 – My honest verdict Let's Talk About What's Real Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid—an omega-9 fatty acid with anti-inflammatory properties. That's the magic. It's thick. It's deeply emollient. It seals moisture in like a champ. Which makes it excellent for: Dry skin Eczema-prone areas Crepey skin in perimenopause and menopause Fine lines (temporarily plumping through hydration) Cracked heels Dry cuticles Scalp nourishment And when you layer it correctly, it acts like a sealant to hold hydration in. I personally use it nightly on my face, neck, thyroid area, lips, and brows. Am I shiny before bed? Yes. Do I care? Not even a little. What I'd Be Careful With Internal use for constipation (very effective but not my first-line recommendation) Anything near your eyes (I woke up with red, burning, and irritated eyes) Vaginal dryness or sensitive internal use (research first, please) When To Never Use It Pregnancy (it induces labor) Castor Oil & Hormones As estrogen drops in perimenopause and menopause, skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic. This is where castor oil shines—literally and figuratively. It supports: Skin barrier repair Moisture retention Elasticity appearance That “spring back” we start to lose Is it Botox? No. Is it still amazing and affordable? Absolutely. Bottom Line Is castor oil a cure-all? Nope. Is it a potent, multi-use, low-risk tool? Yes. In a world where we're constantly sold $200 serums and complicated 12-step regimens, there's something refreshing about a humble glass bottle that's been used for centuries. If you try it: Buy organic Make sure it's in a dark glass bottle Patch test first Use cotton (preferably organic), not polyester, when covering treated areas And maybe—just maybe—pour it into something beautiful so you'll actually remember to use it. What if your TSH is “normal,” but your thyroid is still part of the fertility story? In this episode of Cycle Wisdom, Dr. Monica Minjeur breaks down how thyroid antibodies—specifically thyroid peroxidase (TPO) and thyroglobulin antibodies—can impact ovulation, luteal phase health, and early pregnancy, even when standard thyroid screening looks reassuring.Through Isla's story of recurrent miscarriage and persistent thyroid symptoms despite a normal TSH, we explore why antibodies often appear years before overt thyroid disease, how they subtly disrupt hormone signaling, and why they matter so much in restorative reproductive care. You'll learn which labs are frequently missed, how inflammation and autoimmunity affect implantation, and what cycle-timed, nutrition-based, and medical strategies can help stabilize thyroid function long-term.If you've been told “your labs are normal” but your symptoms and cycles say otherwise, this episode will help you move from uncertainty to a clear, personalized plan. After years working behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer, followed by a nearly decade-long hiatus in the corporate world, Koladae made the decision to finally release his own music. But then, a little over a year ago, he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. He wrote his latest single, Keep Rolling, just two weeks before his surgery. Koladae talks to guest host Garvia Bailey about what this difficult experience taught him about life, and about making music.
T3-based thyroid medications, including desiccated thyroid extract and combination T4/T3 therapy, are some of the most misunderstood and controversial tools in thyroid care. Some patients feel dramatically better. Others feel briefly improved, then crash. Labs often look "optimized," yet long-term recovery stalls. So what's actually happening? In this episode of Thyroid Answers, Dr. Eric Balcavage breaks down the most common mistakes, misunderstandings, and miscommunication surrounding T3-based thyroid therapy — and explains why outcomes vary so widely between patients. You'll learn: Why so many people end up on T3 or desiccated thyroid in the first place The real physiologic arguments clinicians use to justify T3 therapy What a healthy human thyroid gland actually produces — and why that matters Where most of the body's T3 really comes from Why "poor conversion" is often an adaptive response, not a defect Why lowering reverse T3 doesn't necessarily mean recovery Why T3 helps some people and destabilizes others The difference between managing symptoms and restoring physiology This episode reframes T3 therapy through the lens of physiologic state, not just lab values — and explains why adding more thyroid hormone can sometimes push the body further away from recovery. If you've ever wondered whether T3 is helping you, hurting you, or simply masking deeper issues, this conversation will give you a clearer framework for understanding what's really going on.

Millions of people with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's are told their labs look “normal” — yet they still feel exhausted, foggy, and far from well. In this episode, we uncover the hidden gap between thyroid numbers and real-life health, and why so many patients feel dismissed when their symptoms persist. We explore the science behind lingering symptoms, from autoimmune activity and hormone conversion challenges to overlooked issues like nutrient deficiencies, perimenopause, and metabolic health. You'll learn why a TSH in range doesn't always mean your cells are getting what they need — and why your experience is valid.Just as importantly, we dive into a powerful shift happening in thyroid care: a move toward patient-centered medicine that prioritizes HOW you feel, not just what your labs show. From longer visits to whole-person evaluations, new care models are helping patients finally feel heard, supported, and better.
Your energy, mood, and focus don't have to be a mystery. We sit down with Dr. Kevin Smith, a board-certified functional medicine practitioner, to unpack the thyroid's real role in midlife health and why so many women are told “your labs look fine” while symptoms persist. From brain fog and anxiety to constipation, weight shifts, and burnout, we map how thyroid hormones act as the body's metabolic gas pedal—and what goes wrong when the system breaks down.We explore hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and why a large share of people with low thyroid function are actually dealing with Hashimoto's, an autoimmune process. Dr. Smith explains why a TSH-only approach misses crucial steps like T4-to-T3 conversion in the liver and gut, the transport of hormones via thyroid binding globulin, and the impact of inflammation on receptor sites. We dig into hidden triggers that keep you stuck: anemia and iron deficiencies, insulin resistance, cortisol imbalances, sex hormone shifts during perimenopause and menopause, chronic infections like Epstein–Barr, and exposure to endocrine disruptors—yes, even in everyday cosmetics. You'll hear how functional medicine builds a complete picture with broader lab panels, targeted nutrient support, and personalized plans that go beyond symptom chasing. We talk practical moves you can make now: balancing blood sugar, optimizing sleep and protein, choosing cleaner skincare and makeup, and testing smarter to uncover underconversion or transport issues. If you've ever felt dismissed by “normal” labs while your body says otherwise, this conversation offers clarity and a roadmap you can act on.If this episode helped you connect the dots, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs answers, and leave a quick review so more women can find their path to better thyroid health.Bio Dr. Kevin Smith is a board-certified chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner who has been in practice since 2001. He is also a public speaker and published author, with his second book on functional medicine set to release later this year.Dr. Smith specializes in identifying and treating complex or misdiagnosed chronic conditions without drugs or surgery. Many patients seek his care after feeling frustrated by limited results from traditional medical approaches.Rather than masking symptoms, Dr. Smith uses a functional medicine model to uncover and address the root causes of illness — helping patients restore health by identifying and eliminating underlying triggers.Social Media LinkedInTwitterFacebookWebsitehttps://www.chronicpa.com/Thank you for listening to the V.I.B.E. You can follow a solid protocol for Hashimoto's and still feel like something is not fully clicking.Your labs may look better. Your inflammation markers may improve. But your body still feels braced, wired, or unable to truly settle. In this episode, Inna sits down with Dr. Karyn Shanks to talk about a layer of healing that rarely gets addressed, hypervigilance. We explore how overfunctioning, overworking, and constantly being on can become a stress pattern that keeps cortisol elevated and the immune system reactive. Not because you are failing, but because your nervous system has learned to stay alert. You will see how sensations like throat tightness, chest constriction, or a constant sense of urgency are not random. We talk about the difference between a sensation and the story your brain builds around it, and why giving a feeling space for even ninety seconds can shift your physiology. We also discuss trauma informed care, why safety has to come before deeper healing, and how overdoing can be tied to worthiness and performance rather than true resilience.Healing is not only biochemical. It is also nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, and learning when to say yes and when to say no.This episode will help you look at your thyroid healing through a wider lens and understand what might still be keeping your body on guard. For full show notes, please see:https://innatopiler.com/podcasts/hashimotos-protocol-karyn-shanks/Get ThyroLove - the first all in one bottle multi-nutrient comprehensive formula designed specifically for those with Thyroid Autoimmunity at ThyroLove.com - use code “Podcast” to get 10% off and free shipping If you are struggling to lose weight with Hashimoto's, Inna has a 10 day plan just for you at InnaTopiler.com/jumpstartIf you need help with fatigue or brain fog with Hashimoto's, please check out Inna's 9 Day Exhaustion Solution at innatopiler.com/energyIf you don't yet know your thyroid type, please be sure you sign up for Inna's next free training at InnaTopiler.com/zoomcallFor more information about everything Hashimoto's please visit InnaTopiler.com

In this episode, Dr. Jockers sits down with Dr. Justin Marchegiani to explain why thyroid health is really a whole body conversation, not just a gland problem. You'll learn how thyroid hormone impacts energy, body temperature, mood, digestion, and stress resilience. They also unpack why so many thyroid cases have an autoimmune layer and what that means for your next steps. You'll hear why Dr. Justin says thyroid issues often show up alongside gut and liver dysfunction, and why focusing only on medication can miss the real roadblocks. He breaks down how T4 becomes active T3 and how stress, inflammation, and nutrient gaps can slow that conversion down. You'll leave with a clearer way to think about what to support first so your metabolism can respond. You'll learn the link between insulin resistance and sluggish thyroid output, plus how blood sugar data can help you personalize your nutrition instead of guessing. "Since the 80s, we've been brainwashed to believe that eggs are bad for us, butter is bad for us, dairy is bad for us, red meat is bad for us. And it's just not true." If you've been told your cholesterol is "too high"... if you're on a statin drug and wondering if it's actually helping... if you care about preventing heart disease instead of just managing it... this episode is your wake-up call. It's Heart Health Month, and Dr. Terri is cutting through decades of misinformation to reveal what's REALLY driving cardiovascular disease — and it's not cholesterol. From the gut-heart connection to the six hormones that could save your life, this is the heart health conversation your doctor probably isn't having with you. Here's the truth: "The highest gross revenue producing drug in the history of drugs — billions of dollars — and since they've come out in the 80s, cardiovascular disease rates and death from cardiovascular disease have actually gotten worse, not better." WHAT YOU'LL DISCOVER: → Why heart disease is a disease of INFLAMMATION, not cholesterol → The shocking truth about statin drugs — and why heart disease has gotten WORSE since the 80s → How cholesterol-lowering drugs are literally shrinking your brain (the brain is 70% cholesterol) → The connection between statins, insulin resistance, and Alzheimer's (now called Type 3 Diabetes) → Why "all disease begins in the gut" — Hippocrates said it 2,000 years ago and it's still true → How estradiol reduced cardiovascular disease progression by 50% in women who already had plaque → Why testosterone is powerfully protective for men's hearts (not just for energy and muscle) → The one organ that can't make its own T3 thyroid hormone — your heart → Why your "normal" lab ranges are based on a sick population (and what optimal ACTUALLY looks like) → The phone scrolling habit that's destroying your melatonin AND your heart health → The inverse relationship between cortisol and DHEA that's wrecking your cardiovascular system → The vitamin D level that triggers a 5x cancer risk and 160% increased cardiovascular disease risk → The 6 hormones you need optimized for true heart disease prevention This isn't about managing heart disease with more prescriptions. It's about understanding the root cause — inflammation — and optimizing the hormones your body needs to protect itself. YOUR ACTION STEPS: Get a deep-dive lipid panel (particle size, ApoA, ApoB), check your hormone levels, ask about a coronary artery calcium score, and focus on OPTIMAL — not just "normal." TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 - Intro: It's Heart Health Month 2:15 - Heart disease is NOT a cholesterol problem 4:20 - The statin drug soapbox: billions in revenue, worse outcomes 6:40 - How statins are connected to Alzheimer's and insulin resistance 7:55 - It all begins in the gut: inflammation and lipid polysaccharides 9:05 - The one statin study — and why it doesn't apply to everyone 10:20 - Estrogen: a powerfully protective anti-inflammatory molecule 11:25 - The study showing 50% reduction in plaque progression with estrogen 14:05 - Testosterone: protective for cardiovascular disease in men 14:45 - Thyroid: the heart can't make its own T3 16:15 - Why "normal" lab ranges are based on sick populations 17:15 - Optimal Free T3 levels and what pediatric data actually shows 17:50 - Melatonin: the hormone you're destroying with your phone 19:10 - DHEA: the cortisol-DHEA inverse relationship 20:25 - Vitamin D: the hormone-like molecule with massive cardiovascular impact 21:20 - Recap: The 6 hormones for heart disease prevention ---- The Dr. Terri Show is presented by EVEXIAS Health Solutions.
