In this fascinating discussion, Rory walks us through the oil industry from some basic concepts to some of the more nuanced factors affecting supply and demand and offers a set of insights rooted in years of experience analyzing the sector for one of Canada's biggest banks. From pipelines to politics, Rory breaks down the oil & gas sector with the precision of a surgeon, proving exactly why he was the perfect opening guest on This Week In Doom as we try to bring under- followed analysts and content creators to a broader (and deserved) audience... The award-winning poet Fiona Benson retells the Greek myth of the Minotaur, upending the legend of the dashing male hero slaying the monster in the labyrinth. In a series of poems in her new collection Ephemeron we hear from the bull-child's mother – the betrayed and violated Pasiphae. Benson tells Helen Lewis she wanted to explore male and female desire, and the extraordinary cycles of violence and abuse of power in the Greek myths. The cultural historian Ivan Jablonka has taken his native France by storm with his history of Masculinity – From Patriarchy to Gender Justice, translated by Nathan Bracher. In it he asks what it means to be a good man? Using examples from the past he explores the origins and structure of male dominance. He argues that it's time that men took more responsibility and fought harder for genuine equality. The political philosopher Nina Power is more circumspect about the demonisation of men, which she believes is now rampant in today's society. In What Do Men Want, Power looks at what happens when men feel beleaguered and retreat to the ‘manosphere', and she explores ways in which men and women can live together more harmoniously. The number of people living alone has increased over the last decade, but it's still a path that goes against what society expects, according to the entrepreneur and Founder of the lifestyle magazine, About Time, Angelica Malin. She became single at the beginning of lockdown and has now brought together 30 women to explore what single womanhood means in the modern age, in Unattached. Producer: Katy Hickman

In this week's special 88th episode, we conclude our journey through time with our review of "Back to the Future, Part III," the final installment of one of the best trilogies ever. Check out episodes #058 & #065 for our reviews of Parts I & II. - Which co-host can't stop talking about "Buckaroo Bonzai"? - How many total pages of breakdown, trivia, and notes, does Todd have about this movie -- and, is it too many? - How smooth or clumsy was Todd's barely-relevant "Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist" reference during the rundown? - Just how prolific was the acting career of Dub Taylor, one of the old-timers in the saloon? - How many times does Andruw remind us that Part 2 is his favorite of the BttF trilogy? - Which co-hosts site continuity throughout the trilogy & character development as major strengths of Part 3? - What did Dave's daughters think of BttFp3? (Sadly, it was past their bedtime during recording, so we only learn second-hand.) - Which co-host sites a rushed romance as a nitpick? - Do you, the listener, agree with Joanna's analysis of 2nd installments vs. 3rd installments in movie trilogies? - How is Beaufort pronounced differently in North Carolina & South Carolina, and why would you care? (And, if I weren't pointing it out here, would you notice Todd left out the "e" when spelling it and had to edit it in later?) - How coherent were the lightning rounds this week? - Which co-host had a long-winded Muppet reference when explaining his score of BttFp3...and why? - And, why exactly did Doc load the Delorean's removed rubber tires into the wooden frame mounted between the train and the Delorean? This week, we review the under-rated and under-appreciated military sci-fi, alien invasion thriller, "Battle: Los Angeles." And, we have a lot of nice things to say about it. No, really, we do. The four of us like or love it to varying degrees, but I think we're all a bit baffled as to this movie's low scores & negative reviews. - How many cast & crew names does Todd butcher during the rundown? - Which co-host(s) agreed that this is not a deep or thoughtful movie (at least not all the time) but that it does have great moments & depicts people being well-trained, skilled, and working well together? - Which co-host(s) appreciated the movie's small mission for its protagonists, rather than the save-the-whole-world-at-once missions common in more typical Hollywood action movies? - What strategies & other military aspects of both the humans & the aliens did the co-hosts appreciate. - Which co-host brought up the movie's appreciable lack of shaky-cam, and how many co-hosts immediately agreed? - What other cinematic techniques & narrative aspects did the co-hosts like in the movie? - There's one scene that is a favorite of 3 or 4 of the co-hosts because of how smart & well-trained it depicts a main character. What is the scene, and who was the first one to bring it up? - Which co-host teared up a little bit upon the last line of dialogue in the movie, and which co-host had the last line of the movie as a major nitpick? - And, which co-host gave this a top rating? Listen now for the answers to these and other questions. Grab your 8 to 10 magazines of ammunition, first aid kit, combat rifle & bayonet, bivy shelter & sleeping bag, poncho, knee & elbow pads, multi-tool, helmet with night vision optics, 3 MREs, 1 gallon of water, extra socks & undergarments, 2 to 4 grenades, a white smoke grenade, a yellow smoke grenade, a thermite grenade, a phosphorus grenade, handgun, and assorted maps & compasses -- all 65 pounds of typical Marine gear -- as we face off against aliens in Battle: Los Angeles. And, be careful. That's "Battle - colon (:) - Los Angeles." "Battle *of* Los Angeles" is a TV movie made for Syfy by The Asylum. Stay tuned in future weeks for our reviews of Jack the Ripper thriller, "From Hell;" one of the best conclusions to one of the best trilogies, "Back to the Future, Part 3;" and the romantic time-travel fantasy, "About Time" (probably in that order, but BttF3 definitely episode #088). The Sales Evangelist
Boost Engagement Through Prospect-Centered Selling | David Smith - 1513

The Sales Evangelist

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 10, 2021 27:04

Selling can be a complicated process, especially when prospects have multiple objections to your solution. In today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald is joined by David Smith to discuss how he uses prospect-centered selling to overcome these objections and help prospects make authentic and genuine decisions. David encountered this issue when developing senior housing communities in St. Louis. His job was easy: to fill the communities. But David's problem wasn't generating leads; it was converting them to make a final decision.  It's a difficult decision to leave your home and move into a retirement community. It's a decision many people don't want to make, even though it is logically the right choice.  Motivational speaker Brian Tracy says there are four prerequisites to a sale: Having a product or service Being able to afford it Being able to use it Having a desire for it - this was the critical missing from David's prospects. The solution? David had to draw motivation out of them. It's a complex, heuristic sale based on emotional resistance. And until someone recognizes and overcomes that emotional resistance, there's no solution. David recognized that moving out of your home comes with a loss of identity. He needed to look at this transaction not from an investor perspective but the perspective of each individual prospect. When David sells, he looks for themes and values of the individual to build a foundation. And this approach applies to any product or service. Upon finishing this project, David could go back to law or help others fill their communities. He chose the latter. He built a methodology (with the help of his partner, Alexandra Fisher) based on the psychology of change. He also build the CRM Sherpa, which launched in June of 2014 and is now used by 1500 communities around the globe. With his CRM, David extrapolated helpful information that further guided his methodology: If you spend more time in direct selling activity, you'll have better results. How you use that time in the selling zone matters.  The more time per lead worked, the better results will be. Effectively use the time spent planning subsequent engagements Creatively and purposely connect and follow up with prospects. It's not in the hearing; it's in the telling.  Hearing keeps interest and motivation along the way.  But the most crucial part is for the prospect to articulate their thoughts and feelings. And you do that by asking clarifying questions and showing a genuine interest. His goal is to help his prospects make an authentic, autonomous decision that reflects their own values. His major advice? It's not one size fits all when it comes to selling. Everyone responds differently. Be yourself, be heroic, and be authentic. For more content from David, check out his book “It's About Time,” available on Amazon. Visit his website, oneonone.com, and check out his CRM at sherpacrm.com.   This episode is brought to you in part by Skipio. Are you sick of crickets? In which the Mister joins me in reviewing ABOUT TIME (2013), currently available on Netflix. Written and directed by Richard Curtis, the story follows Tim (Domhnall Gleeson) who finds out that the men in his family have been gifted with the ability to time travel. At first incredulous but soon on board, Tim decides he'd like to use his powers to a find a girlfriend. By chance he meets Mary (Rachel McAdams) but circumstances alter the progression of their story and he has to get creative to recreate their first meeting. A really great romantic comedy with a sci-fi twist, we highly highly recommend this little gem of a movie. The film has a run time of 2 h 3 m and rated R. The third anniversary episode is finally here, thank you so much to everyone who submitted questions (especially the four amazing yayborhood members who sent theirs in by voice memo). I had been hoping to celebrate this milestone with a real life event, but this was still a pretty special way to reflect on the past few years with our new co-host, Ang (who also happened to co-host the very first episode ever back in 2018 - such a full circle moment). I could never have imagined then that we'd still be here three years later learning from incredible humans and welcoming new friends to the yayborhood each week. I'll never be able to say enough times how grateful I am for all of your support - I know I sound like a broken record, but I still pinch myself to get to create this show for you.As has been a recurring theme with #yaysofourlives lately, I got a major vulnerability hangover the minute we stopped recording and plunged into the depths of overthinking wanting to change all my answers straight away - it's so much easier being the one asking the questions!! Recording with Ang means you REALLY get the unfiltered, totally scattered, absolute goober versions of who we are (although I've always thought that was the beauty of podcasts - you hear how people are without an audience even though, of course, later there is an audience). Old me would have re-recorded to make my answers more articulate, considered and thorough but new me is practising what I preach and uploaded the whole thing without edits - done is better than perfect! As usual, we got carried away in the first half and I rushed a bit in the second half (hence wanting to redo my answers), but I REALLY enjoyed your diverse and interesting questions and hope there's some enjoyable listening somewhere in amongst our rambling. And yes, we did a little glow up to celebrate the milestone - ABOUT TIME! Felt like a great opportunity for a little refresh, since I whipped up our original assets in about 7 minutes without really thinking too much but then kept them for three years!+ Follow Ang here+ Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah+ Join our Facebook community here+ Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY!

Ahead of next week's CoinGeek Conference in New York, Charles Miller speaks to Bitcoin Association Founding President, Jimmy Nguyen, about the complexities of organizing a live event in the time of Covid.  “It's exciting - yet painful - because of Covid challenges with travel,” Jimmy says. Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, global lockdown restrictions have prevented many from traveling in and out of their countries but CoinGeek's organizers haven't let that interrupt their conference schedule and have now evolved a hybrid format combining in person and specially designed online experiences.  Being able to work on both those facets of an event at once has been “the silver lining in this cloud of covid,” Jimmy said.  So online viewers can expect a broadcast-quality show, complete with lights, cameras, directors, and a superb stage, whilst the conference will also welcome a live in-person audience. “It's like going to be like a live awards show taping or TV show broadcast.” Similar to the last two conferences— CoinGeek Live 2020 and CoinGeek Zurich 2021— CoinGeek New York will showcase both live and virtual speakers on stage, to deliver the latest in the BSV ecosystem. And just like CoinGeek Zurich, the event will be livestreamed on CoinGeek's YouTube channel where audiences around the world can conveniently tune in to enjoy the show. Charles, who attended CoinGeek Zurich in June, asked Jimmy whether there had been enough new developments in the past four months to justify another conference now. Jimmy was quick to point out that there will be a number of new project releases that he is very excited about, including updates on the first stablecoin on BSV, announcements about BSV use in the online gaming and eSports space and about the latest NFTs on BSV.In addition, Jimmy mentioned looking forward to the presentation of Blarecast, the much-anticipated music platform launching on the BSV blockchain. He is also excited to hear from the founder of Aequantium, who is expected to talk about a new use of tokens as a financial instrument. What was Jimmy's rationale for choosing the conference slogan “It's About Time?” He said it comes from the fact that Bitcoin SV system elements are – indeed - about time. “The white paper did not call it a blockchain, it is described as a distributed timestamped server.” In addition, Jimmy explains the other connotations that can be derived from the theme. “It's about time for Bitcoin to be useful and not to be just treated as a speculative investment asset or a store of value; it's about time for the blockchain ecosystem to be more legally compliant; it's about time for real global adoption; it's about time for Bitcoin SV's power, that as we know were limited by the scaling wars, to finally really be unleashed.”Coincidentally, CoinGeek New York will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Times Square.
